Despite the morning being the 'end' of your day, you decide to let the person in. She's a woman with an exaggerated hourglass figure, accentuated by a body-hugging suit made of snakeskin. Her teal hair is tied up in a tight bun with no bangs, revealing a sizeable forehead and piercing teal eyes.
On her fingers are an array of rings and gems that are obviously pricey unless she made them herself. As for what brought that thought to your mind... she has the unmistakable aura of an Item Crafter. Hers is cloying and oppressive, in a way that reminds you of what Master Orso's aura could be if he didn't keep it under tight control. It lends the air a complex flavor that makes you think her innate element isn't one of the six base elements.
Behind her is a stout boy in apprentice garb, although you almost didn't notice him. If you had to hazard a guess, he has an 'Earth' elemental aura, but in very much the opposite way than Master Orso's aura manifests. Where Master Orso is an impregnable mountain, this apprentice's aura feels like it wants to sink back into the earth and not be looked at. Hmm. A Dark aura like yours perhaps? You haven't exactly studied auras that much, but you hazard that it must be dark, given the way he has dark rings under his eyes.
You caught yourself staring at the two guests so you correct yourself to welcome them in.
"Thanks, dahling. I suppose you're one of Orso's apprentices. It's about time that old man passed on his knowledge," she says, sashaying into the Atelier with an exaggerated sway of her hips. Her apprentice is quiet, merely carrying a leather roll with weapons in it. He trails behind her slightly as you usher them into the study.
"If you'll wait here, I'll brew a pot of tea for you. It's still pretty early, so Master Orso's still asleep," you say.
The lady takes a seat and crosses her legs. Her legs are ridiculously long, making her torso look short by comparison.
"I'll have some nightshade, if you have it. If you don't, I'm fine with any tea, I suppose," she says, tracing her lips with a long, manicured fingernail. It's a wonder how she gets any forging done if her nails are that long and delicate, but whatever. More importantly, Nightshade is poisonous. If she has it as 'tea' then she's probably got one of those really special, really rare constitutions or whatever.
You bow and head to the kitchen, where you're greeted by a half-asleep Master Orso and Edgar.
"Not asleep yet, Viola?" Master Orso asks.
"I was about to, but a guest arrived. I was gonna put on a pot of tea for her. You don't happen to know a lady who wears snake rings and stuff, do you?" It's a silly question to ask, since she seems to know the Master personally...
"Wait. Viperia is here?" A look of wakefulness suddenly comes to Master Orso's face.
"Hmm! That's a bit on the nose! Viperia," you tease.
"That's Master Viperia to you, actually," Master Orso corrects. "In case you haven't noticed, Item Crafting Masters take an animal totem and a name change. Mine is the bear. You know. 'Orso'," he says, tapping the ornate carving of a bear on his belt buckle. "Well, that won't be relevant to you for a long time, probably. Anyway, you go to bed. I'll have Edgar take over."
You flash Master Orso a salute and then head upstairs to run your bath.
-----
You awaken in the evening when the sky was just starting to become dusky. A bit earlier than you usually wake up, but you hear the sound of mirth from the first floor of the Atelier.
You run your bath first and do some chores after getting dressed. It was mostly keeping the books balanced and updated. Your inventory reveals that there's a critical lack of potion ingredients, which doesn't bode well for your intentions for today. You'll have to harvest some Nullwort from the garden later.
However, the sound of mirth is distracting and you can't help trying to eavesdrop on Master Orso and Master Viperia's conversation. Edgar and Master Viperia's apprentice were attending them, although Edgar looks pretty exhausted. Master Viperia's apprentice isn't much better and he looks just about ready to pass out-- despite the noise of Master Orso and Master Viperia catching up with each other, he was nodding off for minutes at a time before he startles himself awake. Poor guy.
"Hey, farmboy," Edgar quietly whispers to you while Master Orso's back is turned. "Today kinda sucks. I didn't get anything done and I'm pretty sure the herb garden is suffering for it. You mind giving it a quick check?"
You nod at Edgar and head to the garden to water the plants. Just as Edgar expected, some of the older leaves that would normally get harvested have wilted. Even watering the plants isn't going to save that Nullwort so you cut the wilted leaves off and bury them underground so they can turn back into soil and nourish the plants.
You manage to harvest a bit of herbs, but the harvest is bare. There's probably only just enough Nullwort to tide over your Atelier's potion needs into the next week.
Because there's so little Nullwort to be had, you decide to brew what you have into potions. Potions keep better than dry herbs because some magic has been infused into them. You won't even pretend to understand how that works. What matters is that it does.
Your first brew yields a surprisingly high amount for the amount of herbs you used, which brings an unbidden smile to your face. Your second brew yields a more average amount. You're still pretty happy that you haven't wasted any potion ingredients, though.
"What is that absolutely delicious smell--" you hear a high-pitched female voice which makes you turn. "You know Samuel-boy, you could probably learn a thing or two from Master Orso's apprentice here. So studious-- doing chores and studying on her own time."
"I'm a boy, actually," you correct, a bit annoyed. "But thank you. I'm trying to keep on top of my studies. I just haven't had much luck with forging."
"Splendid! You're a boy, you say? You're absolutely beautiful for a boy. Are you sure you don't want to switch over?" Master Viperia said with a playful lilt to her voice.
"Erm, no thanks. I'm happy with my bits," you say, a bit embarrassed.
"Stop teasing the poor kid, Vi," says Master Orso. The nickname makes you perk up, since Master Orso also calls you 'Vi' sometimes. "I've been tracking his progress. He's surprisingly good at potions. Maybe you could teach him a thing or two..."
