Lilah Morgan glanced down at the plate before her, a mix of cooked and raw meat on it from dubious sources. All along the tables around her, demons were laughing, eating, and fighting.
The large throne room was filled with what could be called music and screams from the slaves when a demon got annoyed with the level of service given. At one end of the throne room was a big iron throne, reaching all the way to the high vaulted ceilings, and on it was the ruler of this entire dimension of hell.
Doom Lord Helak, the Scourge of Innocent, the Torturer.
Also, a valued client of the firm, which meant that occasionally, someone had to go to his parties to represent the firm.
Hiding her distaste, she reached and picked up her goblet and took a sip. The drink was usually safe, and despite the environment, there were worse tasks to pull.
The doors opened a bit, and she looked over to see a demon with four arms run inside, closing it behind her and then quickly hurrying up to her master, telling him something that nobody else could hear.
The large horned demon sneered at her and waved his hand. The small demon nodded and bowed before rushing out again.
What was that about?
Taking a sip from the slightly iron tasting strong alcohol, Lilah frowned to herself in thought before forcing a smile at her neighbor as he started to tell her about a nunnery that summoned him once, so he ate them.
Was likely thinking he was impressing her.
Suddenly there was a loud rumble from outside and the music stopped, everyone staring at the door for a long moment before Helak stood up, "Continue!" he roared loudly enough to knock some of the smaller demons close to him over.
The music started again despite a second rumble outside.
Lilah set her goblet back down, looking at her neighbor who had gone quiet, sneaking looks towards the doors, his hands clutching a thick bone with meat on it but without eating it.
Something was going on here. Carefully, Lilah, slid her hand up to her necklace. Once outside the fortress, it would allow her to teleport back to Earth. If something went wrong while she was inside the fortress, she was basically dead.
Cutting and running early would be even worse if nothing did go wrong. It would insult Helak and disappoint the firm.
Wolfram and Hart didn't like being disappointed.
She forced her hand back down to pick the goblet up again. Better to stay and risk getting killed than to disappoint the firm.
There was suddenly a loud roar and rumble before the roar was cut off and there was the sound of something heavy hitting stone.
The music stopped again as the main doors flew open and someone in dark armor walked inside. It looked like a man in medieval armor, some kind of heavy plate.
He wasn't wearing a helmet, and he was carrying a heavy two-handed sword across his shoulder as he walked into the throneroom like he owned the place. If anything, he looked annoyed.
Her neighbor dropped his bone and scrambled off the bench, almost falling backwards in his hurry to get on his feet.
What was going on here? Who is that?
"IT'S THE FALLEN! KILL HIM! KILL HIM! KILL THE HUNTER!!" Helak screamed and pointed with a massive clawed arm towards the man.
The demons hesitated before charging as one, led by Helak's second in command, a Hell Knight known as Tozotek. He had a massive battle axe and towered over anyone around him, skulls of his enemies tied to his long matted fur.
Four night-black wings spread behind the warrior and he met the demon's charge as a pair of brilliant green eyes opened on his forehead. He dodged the strike of the axe with almost disdainful ease, the ground shaking from the impact before he counter attacked. The two-handed sword flicked, taking Tozotek's leg off, the massive demon falling and screaming before losing his head and going quiet.
Then the fight was really on. Demons died as the warrior waded through them, slashing and tearing, using his sword, wings, and hands.
When a demon reached him, it died. Heads pulped, jaws were ripped off, knees broken and eyes pierced.
Screams filled the room, and Lilah found it hard to move. She was frozen, unable to look away or move.
It was impossible. Nobody, no...thing could do that. Not a Slayer, not a demon. A god maybe.
Then there was suddenly a meaty crunch and the last demon hit the ground in a shower of blood, its lower jaw missing as it thrashed before going still.
The warrior folded his four jet black wings away and stepped over the closest bodies to pick his sword up again, starting to walk towards Helak. The demon lord snarled and backed away towards his throne.
"NO! IT'S IMPOSSIBLE! YOU CAN'T DO THIS! YOU ARE HUMAN! EVEN WITH ONE OF THEM IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!"
The man stopped and turned his head to look at Lilah and she felt her heart stop for a second as four eyes looked at her, one emerald set above his human eyes, "Lilah Morgan?" he asked after several seconds, ignoring the demon lord.
Struggling to swallow through her desert-dry throat, she just about managed a nod.
He nodded in turn, "Stay. I have an account with your firm and I would like to hitch a ride back with you if that's fine? This place is starting to bore me. I'm running out of entertainment," He said before he turned back towards the demon lord again, "I just have an errand to finish first."
