Haunting at Shanxi Redux (Puella Magi Madoka Magica/Mass Effect)

I suspect that either memetic virus was involved, Incubators sells salarians 'inconsiderable' info that is worth a cosmobastion with a fleet or it's an old, but reliable blackmailing, of an entire species's upper echelon of space spies, for generations
Or they just said "If you guys come back, we're toasting your homeworld."

Then the Salarians decided they did not want anyone else accidentally setting this threat off.

Ironically enough the Incubators would probably ask the Citadel to omit the last part, making enemies for a few trinkets that are useless to them is just so irrational, plus opening Citadel space to humans is both a reward to the Incubators and a punishment to everyone else.

Depends on their plans. I suspect they'll state "We do not want anything on our behalf." but make clear that, as far as they are concerned, the need for orbital bombardment was "an entirely logical and foreseeable outcome of the Turian Commander's choice to invade", and that the "whole situation could have been avoided but for the Turian Commander's choice to invade".

In other words, rub not just salt, but also rubbing alcohol in the wound, because the Incubators seem to be making this the biggest clusterfuck they can.

Why they're making this such a clusterfuck is unknown, but they seem to want this whole situation to escalate out of control. Maybe to make clear that intruding on their interests is a extraordinarily bad idea.

Thanks

That's what I figured. Kyubey was actually faking the emotion of anger when dealing with the Turian leaders, which couldn't serve any purpose but as a warning display.

You know I can actually see Citadel members restricting immigration of humans to their planet or space station. Mostly cause a group a human arrives a witch is sure to follow. Though the stow away familiar or fallen magical girl may infest the place either way.

Are people not taking Kyubey at his word?

When has he ever been anything but forthright and honest about his intentions?

(But... seriously, glad to see people speculating. One thing I was kind of worried about for this story, and Renegade Magica, was mystery. I wanted a mystery that was entertaining for people coming in on either side of the cross. People who like Mass Effect can wonder just what the hell is up with the Incubators/magic in general, and people who know Puella Magi Madoka Magica can wonder about aspects of Kyubey's characterization/actions that don't quite seem to line up with what they know of the Incubators in canon. Of course, I admit, I was a little afraid that people would think that was just crummy writing rather than being deliberate.)

Hopefully, the eventual resolution to some of these mysteries will be... satisfying.

Hell, the scene that made me really want to write this story, the scene that made me go, "yeah, I really need to combine a semi-hard science fiction story with a magical girl series and need to start plotting out backstory now" is entirely about one major mystery about the Incubators being revealed.

Though, just as a warning, that scene is in Renegade Magica, though that's not to say that no questions will be answered here.

So the incubators are from the Milky Way galaxy, sort of figured they would have been from further out and been relatively new to the this galaxy.

Makes you wonder if they know about the Reapers or not.

Well, they likely want the humans to survive the incoming Reapers, so letting the humans get integrated into the council ASAP rather than in centuries could be their goal. They'd be willing to toss the Turians under the bus for that.

At a guess, the salarians visiting the incubator homeworld, learned an alarming truth about them (maybe that the furry things are puppet bodies with the real ones elsewhere? perhaps as eldritch abominations?) and salarian government decided to keep it secret, for the safety of the galaxy? (perhaps they are emotion eaters similarly to witches or something else that would have the citadel futiley declare war on them?)

on one hand the mystery of Incubators is one of the highlights of pmmm, on the other-i really want to know!

Is just that they got so many options to fuck with any of the Mass Effect races, other than maybe the Reapers, that they can chose from a mutually beneficial arrangement to civilization shattering secrets and everything between.

Hmm, the magical girl cracked the floor, that's pretty mysterious. Normally you can't achieve that because

a, A normal humans legs can't take that
b, You can't accelerate your leg fast enough for that
c, You'd get pushed up really high in to the air from the acceleration and potentially recoil.

Now mass effect can help one get around that all I guess, but seeing it done so casually in a fit of anger and with out things like power suits, obvious augmentation or any kind of sign of power use, probably is a bit disconcerting.

Just one more on the pile of no doubt Incubator super science meddling with certain humans. Though one can't help but wonder why they go out of their way so much for humans.

I mean, it even seemed to show up for the girl and have an extended talk with it. And she didn't even seem surprised to get a long talk out of it. Clearly an indication of them engaging with humans far more then any one else they know of.
