Who says he has to remain a 'Faerie' his problem with being human doesn't extend to simply wearing the appearance, its all the other baggage that he's trying to distance himself from. The problem is, he doesn't get that it doesn't make him less human.

Basically Ephi is that person who's been beaten down and bullied and then suddenly given power over his bullies albeit vicariously. He isn't going to be merciful because he doesn't understand that power can be wielded in any other form than abuse. So he believes that's what he should do now that he's one of the strong. He's a product of his upbringing, not that it's any excuse.

That probably while he both hates Sakuya and at the same time is in lust with her. Physical attraction is only half of it.

Of course, there's always that niggling fear that his power and beauty are transient, stolen, and that he'll be forced to surrender them one day, something he likely fears more than death.

The actual loophole that was used with this took me by surprise, actually. I was expecting him to do the deed himself, as the exact wording only promised the (former) Lord Justice safety from his subordinates, not him.
 
You know I hope Ephi does end up working for Joseph, because the other option at this point is that he passess through Gallia and ends up working for the Church. And that would really suck since it would be like spitting in the Fae's faces every time he shows his face in Tristian since they wouldn't be able to bring him to justice.

Aww man, I love Stern, she's just so cute! Look at that brooding face! The rarity of her smile makes it a treasure to be cherished! The unhappy ones tend to be the cutest when they smile.

I'm sorry but after re checking the female Heathcliff pick, I'm starting to fear that it is in fact what Bishop would look like if she let her hair down. In which case . . . She takes after her Papa!

Yet, Bishop is working on that little problem. The question is what relationship role does Balandene get cast as? After all her brother's role has already been decided and locked :D but Bishop doesn't want to repeat ideas just yet.
 
The next Shiori snip. I lost everything in a recent hard drive crash and didn't have a back up, so I'm skipping to this. I'd like to note that I know very little of the birthing process.

In hindsight, everyone should have expected this. Including the betting pools.

Separate due dates.

Shio's baby had been the first to go into labor at just short of 9 months. Recon had immediately rushed that body of the Shiori to the nearest midwife.

Some nine hours later, and multiple broken fingers later, the first of their children was born. Little Nanami had inherited her mothers hair and her fathers eyes.

Iori had been the next to go into labor nearly a week later. Recon walked away with a newborn son and no injuries, though the threat of death if he ever did this to them again was voiced. Multiple times.

Still, little Sora was a great kid so far.

Recon winced again as the Hiyori body squeezed his hand as another contraction ripped through her body. A crack could be faintly heard as one of the bones in his pinky finger broke.

He could faintly hear the voice of the midwife telling Hiyori that is was time for the last push and could only sigh in relief. Soon this would be over and they could begin the long process of raising their children.

This thought was very short lived as Hiyori crushed his hand and the sound of a baby's cry rang through the room.

He couldn't be happier as he watched the midwife place their newborn daughter in Hiyori's arms. Their little Hikari.

If only they knew how much she would take after her mother(s).

Like I said, don't know much about the birthing process. And I kinda grabbed the first names I could think of for the second and third kid. I had them written down, but they were lost.

Mimic would not only let him pass as normal human agent of His Holiness, but if something goes wrong, Vittorio can always claim he was fooled by the guy and give him away to the Fae as a peace offering. On the other hand, a known traitor parading across Tristain as servant of the Church? Even if did protect him from their wrath, it would only serve to annoy them and ruin any chance for diplomatic relations. Also, it would make any undercover actions nearly impossible, as anyone with half a brain would be on high alert upon learning of his presence. Lose lose.

That's the thing though, one of the very pillars of religion in that era was that joining the church "wiped the slate clean" legally for anyone who "felt the calling". And since the religion has been around for thousands of years at this point that would be something that the countries would just accept without question. The only people who would have a problem with it would be the Fae, which is where my statement came in.

The thing you don't get here is that having that sort of thing happen would be normal for the people in Halk.

Which means they wouldn't realize that it would antagonize the Fae.

Come on, give Vittorio some credit. Unless he's worse zealot than Cromwell, he should know that Church is not an absolute power in Halkeginia. And that he's dealing with beings that come from another world and have quite different opinions on many things.

He also doesn't have the tools to ensure 100% loyalty, thus making it only a matter of time before a known traitor decides he's better off without his "benefactors".

They would know he was a Traitor, but having traitors "repent" by joining the church would be Normal for the people of Halk. What they wouldn't know is that such things wouldn't be normal for the Fae and instead would offend them.

And yes it would be normal, it comes from 6,000 years of various nobles disposing of their "embarrassing" relatives by forcing them to join the church to avoid whatever crimes they committed that made them an embarrassment.
 
While most of the average citizens will acknowledge the church as a religious power, and perhaps accept that a "traitor" went to them to repent and so on at face value, people in political power will acknowledge the Church as a political power first and a religious one second. The church cannot do anything directly to the royal families, as by their own dogma the royals contain the blood of the man they worship. The Church has to deal with the other countries politically, and that means being smart about their deals and power plays. The real world doesn't function like anime where one power can declare something and have everyone accept it without question. Religiously, what they can do is rile up the citizenry to put pressure on to the royal families, but even that has limits.

If the church took in Ephi and started parading him around Tristain claiming he's reformed, Henrietta would call bullshit, and rightly so. Ephi is a traitor who attempted to overthrow the crown of Tristania, the family that is connected to the Holy Founder Brimir through blood. Having someone like that in the Popes open employ would be politically disastrous if it came out, because it would draw a dangerous line connecting "Rebels and traitors seeking to overthrow Brimirs kingdoms and blood" to "the Holy Church of Brimir". That is a bad idea because it would be a huge opening for the various kingdoms to reduce the Churchs power and influence, by spreading discontent against them among the population.

Secondly Vittorio wants to know more about the Fae, where they come from and how they came about. He's going about this the smart and easy way, by playing nice to people who need help and banking on the gratefulness and cooperation that comes after.

His minion screwed that up by making a bad call and risking the discovery that the Churches intentions are no where near as benevolent as they wish to appear, Vittorio will no doubt be planning damage control for when it comes out that Louise ran/was kidnapped by the Church at an incredibly sensitive time. He's got to be careful, as the slightest thing going wrong will send the teetering pretenses tumbling down, which means he's got to do things the hard way.

Taking Ephi in would be something akin to shitting on all his carefully set up plans, setting it on fire and then leaving it on Henrietta's doorstep.

True, though it does bring up the interesting question of just what the effect the differing cultural norms are having on the two groups.

I mean the standard Tristian military uniform seems to require hotpants, that has to be weirding out a good number of Fae.
