Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

That's one film I look forward to seeing, the recent GOTG Holiday Special was very good.

Pretty sure Rocket is gonna bite it, and that makes me sad.

The movie looks really Rocket-heavy.

I do hope this movie avoids the pitfalls of Phase 4 and does more to advance an overarching meta-plot.

Drax will probably die as well.

I wonder if somehow the old Gamora will come back from the dead, my cousin thinks Adam Warlock will be a factor in that happening, hope so. I liked Peter/Gamora as a couple, the romantic in me, wants to see them back together.

Drax could go, but he wouldn't have the same emotional impact. Drax is just a walking punchline.

I'm not sure old Gamora will come back per say, but with Adam Warlock being a weird character with weird abilities, I think he might be able to basically merge their minds or something to make it effectively the same thing.

Finally we see Star Lord wearing the iconic military uniform and stopped being Star Manchild

Given how many of the main actors have said they aren't coming back, I vote for a TPK.

Also, given how Phase 4 did a hack job on Scarlet Witch, I'm willing to bet that Gamora is an antagonist in this film.

Drax being killed off will still have an impact.

That's what I'm thinking might happen.

I don't see it. There's too many antagonists already. High Evolutionary and Warlock fill the role, and it's almost certain Warlock will turncoat at some point. Throwing Gamora in there would be too much.

Wanda made sense... she's often a bad day away from losing it in the comics.

Uh, Gamora is not possessed by any demonic artifact and she features heavily on the posters as a team member.

Oh right there was an official sypnosis released a few days ago:
Sypnosis said:
Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn't long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket's turbulent past.

Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket's life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Amazing send-off, so much to like. Was rather shocked at Gunn having Rocket rip off the High Evolutionary's face and show it in close bloody detail for an extended time. but I guess Disney hiring him back came with conditions.

And of course how to end this on anything but a city wide dance party to Florence+The Machine's 'Dog Days Are Over'.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Ignites With $168 Million Internationally, $282 Million Globally

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ignited to $282 million globally, including a better-than-expected $168 million at the international box office. Heading into the weekend, Disney’…
In North America, the conclusion to Marvel's trilogy about a band of intergalactic misfits opened to $114 million, ranking as the second-biggest domestic opening weekend of the year, behind "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" ($146 million).

...

The latest "Guardians of the Galaxy" entry — the 32nd film in the sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe — was especially popular in Imax, which accounted for $25 million of global ticket sales. That marks the biggest global opening of the year for Imax.

Still, "Guardians 3"'s initial performance in North America is mixed news for Marvel and Gunn — who now runs rival DC Studios — and is sparking further concern that superhero fatigue has settled in at the box office as the 2023 summer season kicks off. Only a year ago, for example, Marvel threequel "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness" soared to a series-best $187 million in its domestic launch.

"Guardians 3" certainly doesn't lack for audience love; it earned an A CinemaScore and strong exit scores on PostTrak, and it's already paying off. ... Reviewers feel differently than do consumers, with the movie sporting the lowest Rotten Tomatoes critics score of the three films.

Hm, wonder if they're taking the rising global inflation rate into account here. People spend less on entertainment when money is tight, after all.

In spite of its ups and downs, I really, really gel with this movie and it's probably the most recent MCU entry to date that emotionally resonated with me and really does feel like Gunn's passion project.

- Biggest running theme of this movie is accepting one's lack of control over reality. From Adam Warlock's entire characterization as a whole to Star Lord's denial that Alt!Gamora is an entirely different individual to Mantis's rant about Nebula's hatred of Drax to Nebula to the complete anti-thesis of this theme being the High Evolutionary, I really liked how Gunn kept running with it.

- Rocket takes this film front and centre. His scenes are possibly the best and most visceral scenes in the MCU to date.
