[x] Idealistic Foundation: +10% Happiness among population

Functional Architecture has a limited time when it's actually useful, so I wouldn't choose that. We get like 3 spaces for free from our capital building + 2 from techs. Instead this lets us stomach conquered planets much better.

The independent station in Millistamu has actively contacted the UNE, identifying themselves as the Muutagan Merchant Guild, specializing in trading in rare resources.

The First Fleet has finally engaged actual Lypian ships, and come out unscathed. The UN has now placed a substantial chunk of Lypian space under siege without losing a single fleet.

Envoy Nakajima and Doctor Chamberlain are both dead. The two had been conducting a series of meetings between their teams to discuss the Lypian situation and advocating for military expansion. The deaths of the two within a few days of one another, both from apparently natural causes, has raised a specter of foul play.

Anita Schneider has been appointed the new spymistress for the Lypian Suns, but someone will need to replace Dr. Chamberlain. The options include...

[] Enrico Di Chiara, Maniacal (+5% research speed)
[] Move Cai Wan from Engineering to Sociobiology, hire Javier Hernandez, Expertise: Materials
[X] Petition the Curator Order to hire one of their members. They have hinted at a willingness to do this in recent years, there has simply never been cause.

Well, ain't that suspicious

Curator traits is much better than Maniacal.

can envoys be assassinated? and does it have any effects? its not like envoys get traits or levels
Within the mechanics of the game, no, I don't think assassinating envoys is a thing, and it doesn't have any effects on their diplomatic effectiveness. But since they happened to die on the same monthly tick, it seemed like a fun bit of narrative :)

If it's tied around lunchtime I'll flip a coin

In what becomes the most contentious scientific hire of recent memory, Doctor Professor Zarg (they insist "Professor" is indeed their first name) becomes the first non-human to join the United Nations Exoplanetary Council. They immediately take up the late Doctor Chamberlain's most recent project, a deep dive attempting to catalog everything humanity knows about the origin and evolution of life.

Humanity has occupied its first alien soil. Members of the Red Legion are ecstatic. The UN's interplanetary Peacekeepers, recruited from across all inhabited planets, get their boots on the ground of the Lypian colony of Neth'Atetek on the first of the month. The tiny colonial guard force falls on the eighth.

Doctor Reid, after many years bound up in Sol by administrative and domestic issues, has led a small group of scientists to take more extensive scans of the spatial anomaly near the Murphrid system.

Research started: Wormhole Travel

If her quest is successful, it may be possible to actually get involved in some of the further-flung events on the galactic stage. The Thorquell High Kingdom and Prossnakan Alliance have jointly declared war on the Mitron Citizen Union, declaring that the latter has insulted their honor. In exchange for a modest upkeep fee, the Mitron government has agreed to beam data to UNE observers.

The UN Interstellar Navy has lost its first ship. A Destroyer of the Second Fleet had its reactor pierced by a lucky shot and lost containment of the superheated plasma within.

Secretary Zhivenkova has declared a week of public mourning over the passing of Cordelia Whitfield, first Exoplanetary Secretary, at the age of 97. She lived her final years peacefully, and died surrounded by extended family.

Privately, Katya curses her predecessor for getting humanity into this war. And for getting Doctor Wan into this heeby-jeeby religious stuff.

Council of Metaphysical Cleansing is now led by scientist Cai Wan, lead engineer.

Envoy Tshangisa's efforts to improve relations with the Klaggian Authority are at last bearing fruit with the establishment of mutual embassies with the UNE. It is hoped the desert-loving aliens will serve as something of a counterbalance on the opposite side of Shazarak space.

<And so it is with a glad heart that I thank the United Nations of Earth for their valorant contributions to our victory>, the bird on the screen squawks.

Katya fights to keep a diplomatic smile plastered to her face, reminding herself that at least this means peace, and the naval and ground forces can return home.

But it's infuriating. The one, the only good thing, that could have come from this damned war would have been freeing some of the Lypian population to live under democratic rule rather than a military junta. But the damn buzzard Bruggans had negotiated to take territory off the Birnathi and force them into vassalhood under the Lypians while letting the Lypians off completely. The Lypians of course jumped at the opportunity to backstab their partner and get off scot-free.

At least the borders have been forced open so that human scientists can scan the wreckage of some of the Lypian ships and stations.

More importantly, Beatrice has reported successful stabilization of the Murphrid wormhole for multiple entire seconds now. It should be possible to send a probe through to get a rapid scan and determine where the other end pops out! Captain Okada is immediately dispatched from her post near Earth to do just that.

"Hooooooly shit they've done it," Governor Liang remarks, glancing off to the side of her camera.

Katya takes a deep breath, restraining her exasperation with the younger woman. "Please, please be more specific."

"News just came through from our embassy with the Interstellar Izki Confederacy. They've gone to war with the Prikkiki-Ti. The whole federation has. They're calling it an 'intervention'."

After a beat to process, Katya turns to her own computer and begins pulling up reports. Best estimates suggested the Provalguvor Conglomerate's navy was on par with the UN's by itself. When combined with its federation members, that represented a sizable force indeed.

They might just have a chance.

[X] (Doct) Rapid Deployment: Faster sublight movement speed, longer ship weapon range
[] (Doct) Hit and Run: Higher chance to successfully disengage from combat via emergency jump
[] (Doct) Defense in Depth: Faster fire rate in home territory
[] (Doct) No Retreat: Large fire rate improvement, massively reduced disengagement chance Cannot use due to lacking Militarist ethos.

[] (Perk) Galactic Force Projection: Naval capacity +80 (136->326, currently using 63), individual fleet capacity +20 (80->100, currently sizes 33 and 30 for First and Second Fleets)
[X] (Perk) Grasp the Void: +5 Starbase capacity (currently using 9 of 11), 1.5x chance to discover FTL technologies
[] (Perk) Imperial Prerogative: Reduce administrative costs from planets by 50% (currently reduced from 60->45, would go down 45->30), making technology and traditions cheaper to adopt
[] (Perk) Mastery of Nature: Enable expanding the areas of planets by 2 districts (largest planet (Emesh) is currently size 20, smallest (Kore) is size 12)

Out of all of them this one is Most useful, that doesnt just get invalidated by a tech in the future.

I know Mastery of Nature is on the weaker side of things, but I just think they are neat.

We got no additional territory from that war well that's disappointing.
