Gamer's Destiny - New Game Plus

That worked better than his previous attempts.

The mana surged, flooding the void faster than it could absorb it. It filled up, spiraling in the opposite direction of the vortex, slowly getting filled.

It was hard, though. He had to keep the reins on his mana pretty tightly, because it was like trying to move a river while digging the new bed at the same time.

...Was glorious. It felt like when the sun outside was shining down on me but even better, energy filling my body as I reached for the sun, full with the will to MAKE IT MINE. A smile adorned my face.

The sun engulfed her and....

"Because I'm not lying? We're in my mind, or soul or whatever. Can't you check? I've never been religious besides a small belief in there being some godlike being somewhere in sixth grade, and one of my best friends is someone who I argue with all the time. Admittedly, I've never befriended someone I've tried to punch in the groin before, but then, there's a first time for anything. And besides, I'm pretty sure my life is a Shounen now anyways."

She simply shook her heads.

"Nice words. But just words. Why should I believe you? You didn't make a mystery of your dislike of me before and you followed up with actions."

Another piece of the library vanished into dust.

There was little time, now.

---------------------------------------------------------------

And more importantly, there was the connection that was there. This church, it had sparked that particular turning point in his life, arguably the most important turning point of them all.

From that memory, he got the hint he was missing. There were two places in the church where he could find his answer. The two most important places of the building...

That.....Was....

A lot more of a spectacle than I expected.

"I would like a heavy staff." I murmur under my breath.

Once I get it, I think fast, holding it in one hand, tucking the other under my waist, and bow theatrically.

"Just wait for the movie! It'll blow your mind!" I turn and stroll away as dramatically as I can, staff over my shoulder.

"Nice words. But just words. Why should I believe you? You didn't make a mystery of your dislike of me before and you followed up with actions."
I pulled on a lock of my hair worriedly, "Well, I was kinda under false assumptions there. But I get it, so here's the deal. You're a demon, you make pacts, right? How about we make one. I'll do something for you, and in return you can help me stop my soul from turning to dust. What is it you would want? I can help increase your power for when I die, I can do a favor for you in the future, I can get you a sofa, whatever. Oh, and I'll promise to accept you as you are."

Honestly, I felt like making a deal sent out the wrong message, but I was working on a time limit here. I didn't want our relationship to be one of give and take, but I wanted my soul to disappear even less.

I yawned as I looked around. Quickly I got a drink of water because I was parched. Need to find a place to train. And maybe experiment with my mana? Closing the curtain, I then grabbed a notebook and pencil, before I sat on my couch and focused on my mana. Slowly I pushed it into reality.

From that memory, he got the hint he was missing. There were two places in the church where he could find his answer. The two most important places of the building...

"Two important places."

One some level, it was a technicality. The individual places weren't nearly as important as what was present at those places.

"So wherever two or more are gathered in my name..." He thought, though he couldn't remember entirely what the exact wording of the verse was. Not that he would have had much difficulty looking it up if he wanted to. He was in a church, after all.

He started by turning towards the front end of the room. The question was how specific the meaning was and what kind of importance he was considering. He decided to start by checking the area at the front end of the chapel, where the preaching actually took place. The area where he could find the likes of the pulpit, the baptismal font, all the things that served for conducting worship.

If that failed, the next place to check would likely be the greeting hall.

"Just wait for the movie! It'll blow your mind!" I turn and stroll away as dramatically as I can, staff over my shoulder.

A staff made of pale apple wood appeared in his hands, gleaming. It was polished to a shine, with tiny carvings of apple flowers, leaves and fruits on it and a faint smell of apples could be smelt from it.

The crowd applauded loud, some even cheering, snapping photos with their cellphones. but, at least, they don't impede his walk.

She looked at her really disappointed.

"You really don't listen, do you? I already said that I'm an Inner Demon, not a Contract Demon. I can't make pacts." She shook her head, before sighing.

"Still, I guess that it count, even if just barely." And, with a dash, she collided with Ax, vanishing inside her. Her last words echoing in the air for a couple of seconds, before everything vanished and she found herself back in the real world.

"You really need to learn more about wording, if you want to last as a demon. Embracing your Inner Demons is not just a metaphor."

Around her hand, an haze of blue appeared, formless and lighter than air.

It was under her control, but it currently simply floated there.

His first guess was also correct. From behind the altar, a mass of blue light came. It came from the windows, it came from the altar itself, from the bath, the bible, the cup and the paraments.

It came, it rose in the air and fell on him, droplets of light, refreshing him, his skin and permeating inside him.

Then, he woke up, back in the normal world. Still, he had that feeling of warmth inside him.

I willed it to become like a whip, or a vine, taking inspiration from my bloodline. I then had the vine try and pick up a mug on the tv-stand, on the otherside of the room, and bring it to me.

"Let's see if this works..."

"You really need to learn more about wording, if you want to last as a demon. Embracing your Inner Demons is not just a metaphor."
I blinked, before realizing what had just happened, "If you wanted a hug, couldn't you have said so? And you never said embrace, nor did I, there was no wording!"

Still, I couldn't exactly complain. My soul hadn't turned to dust, I'd unlocked a new ability, and I could use mana now. Speaking of which, I immediately felt for the mana I had gained, trying to bring it up to the palm of my hand.

A smile formed on his face when he came too and had a chance to acknowledge the world around him. He'd still have to figure out how to used and unlock Stamina Points, but he'd have time to worry about that later. It was apparently locked for now anyway.

He considered how best to try to use his new unlocked powers, but when he thought about it, outside would probably be better. After all, he had no idea what might happen next, and he didn't want to accidentally break something.

Going out the back, he stepped into the back yard. The sun shone down as he walked outside, it felt nice. The yard wasn't big, but it would be out of the way. And more importantly, where there'd minimal chance of destroying something important if he did something wrong.

"Alright, let's go Ether powers." He thought. "Let's see what I can make you do."

He decided to start with something simple and basic. Ether was basic energy, right?

Stepping out onto the grass, he looked at a nearby tree.

He then thought again, and realized he was overlooking the obvious.

"Leela, is there an list of Ether skills to learn?" Kyle wondered, hoping he could talk to the system mentally in addition to saying it out loud. "Or a 'How to use Ether for dummies' manual of some kind?"

Well, at the very least I've pushed away my identity being compromised temporarily.

I smile beatifically, doing my best to disappear around a corner or something like that before getting rid of the staff(By putting it in my inventory, obviously) and sprinting in order to avoid anyone following me, ducking around another corner before heading towards the closest subway station so I can get home again and experiment with my new staff.

"Let's see if this works..."

The blue mana, with only the barest hint of green, slowly uncurls from her hand and snake towards the mug.

Only, after two meters, the mana simply dissipated. It seemed that it wasn't condensed enough.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of which, I immediately felt for the mana I had gained, trying to bring it up to the palm of my hand.

A dark blue haze of energy coalesce on her palm, clearly magical in nature if the various sparkles that popped inside the cloud periodically were any indication.

It took him some creative maneuvers to escape the crowd, but in the end he managed to take a train towards his home, staff securely held in his inventory.

I sigh in relief.

The moment I'm safely in my home, I sit down and lay the staff across my lap, even going so far as to stick my pants into my inventory so my knees are in contact with the staff.(I am, of course, wearing underwear.)

I meditate, examining the spiritual presence of the staff before turning my gaze inwards for further study of, well, myself.

"Wait, what?"

With one question answered, two more took its place.

Apparently, there was a 'market' of some kind, as well as 'skillbooks'. Neither of which he knew squat about. Kyle considered asking what those were, but he decided it was best to wait. If previous proceedings were any indication, he'd probably learn what those were later anyway.

Sighing and shrugging, he returned his attention to the tree. Holding his arm out, he pointed his his hand at the tree, fist closed except for his extended index finger and thumb. He tried to focus on performing the seemingly simplest of tasks - using Ether to shoot a beam of energy out of his hand through his finger and at the tree.

His sights set on the tree, he tried to focus on the idea of a small, weak beam of energy flowing through him until it emerged out his limb and flew at the tree where he was pointing, almost like using a finger gun but with more tangible results.

"Pew." He mouthed, the word barely rising above his breath as he playfully vocalized the idea. "Pew-pew."

I meditate, examining the spiritual presence of the staff before turning my gaze inwards for further study of, well, myself.

It was the strange feeling again, but more acute, this time. And it came from the staff.

But trying to find himself... well, he did find something. He slammed face first - metaphorically speaking - against an iridescent blue mass of energy, thoring him out and on the floor - this time, quite literally speaking.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I summoned and concentrated a bit more mana, a bit more then last time, and try again.

This time, it reached the mug. But it was too weak to grip it properly and not precise enough to manipulate it without sending it crashing down on the floor.

Still, it was almost there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Pew." He mouthed, the word barely rising above his breath as he playfully vocalized the idea. "Pew-pew."

Much to his surprise, a weak beam of light blue came out from his fingers, not doing much beyond slowly using his mana and making a blue point on the tree.

I pumped more mana into the vine, focused on my plant like nature. I WANT this to work.

Kyle stopped for a moment, a large smile on his face. True, it wasn't much, but the fact that it was happening at all was amazing none the less.

Now he just needed to get from 'laser pointer' to something that could do more than just entertain cats.

He pointed at the tree again, and refocused on willing the energy to fire out through his finger in a laser beam of some kind.

Right.

More....Slowly.

I sit down properly and sloooooowly turn my gaze inwards in hopes of a less violent reaction.

I grinned as the mana coalesced in my palm. Still, as much as part of me wanted to just stare at it, I had experiments to run.

First, I would try out the one spell I already knew, Dark Ball. Apparently it was a simple skill, but it was still one that clearly held some sort of elemental effect. Or, well, not elemental, but certainly non-ether. And so, as I summoned up the ball of shadows, I focused on what, exactly, it felt like to do so.

I pumped more mana into the vine, focused on my plant like nature. I WANT this to work.

Mana compressed, strengthened, got more defined. And then an Ivy made of pure glowing blue mana appeared around her, before snaking through the air, grasping the mug closely and retreated with the same snakelike motions, bringing the mug to her hands.

Code:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

He pointed at the tree again, and refocused on willing the energy to fire out through his finger in a laser beam of some kind.

It was harder than before, but in the end it was pretty simple, as far as spells go: a continuous output of energy focused into a thin beam.

Code:

Damage: INTxSkill level, repeated for every 10 MP used.
Details: The skill need to last at least one second. Max size: Tennis Ball. Max distance: 10 Meters.

I sit down properly and sloooooowly turn my gaze inwards in hopes of a less violent reaction.

Slowly, you approach the energy inside yourself. It was pulsing without restraint, arcs of magic sprouting here and there, iridescent in the same way that something real can't be.

It was something sublime to withstand.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And so, as I summoned up the ball of shadows, I focused on what, exactly, it felt like to do so.

It was strange. It was like trying to dip her hands into a pool of pure darkness and grasping it while extracting the hand.

The fact that the substance was either solid or immaterial depending on the needs of the caster or the fact that there was some dimensional effect going on that she knew, but not necessarily understood, made the whole thing even more headache inducing.

Cool, tho.

Yeah, that.... that looks bad.

I take a deep breath.

As far as I can see it, I have two options. I can try to use it as it is, or I can try to fix things.

....

Admittedly, kinda curious!

I set down the staff, go to my window, and when my magic arcs, I PULL on the arc, aiming my hand up into the sky.

Hey, if nothing else, depleting my storage somewhat should force it to calm down a little, right?

It was harder than before, but in the end it was pretty simple, as far as spells go: a continuous output of energy focused into a thin beam.

"Woohoo!" Kyle said as he threw his fist up into the air and gave a small leap of celebration. It quickly turned into a small dance of celebration when he combined a couple dance steps with a couple more uses of the power, first shooting at the tree once with each finger, and then ending in a disco-style pose where he fired a beam into the air.

Once he'd calmed down, he took a moment to breath. While he realized at that point that his little display had almost certainly used up some of his mana, he really didn't care. He'd just unlocked a superhuman ability, it kind of called for a little celebratory action.

"Leela, how much MP do I have left right now?" He wondered, deciding it was probably a good idea to check on his levels all the same.

After a moment of realization, he realized something else.

"Also, shouldn't shooting laser beams out of my fingers qualify as doing something that shows I'm no longer a normal human?" He asked mentally. If laser fingers didn't count, he'd have to start asking what, exactly, he was supposed to do to earn himself a quest reward.

With the first skill down - he understood the basics, at any rate - Kyle then moved on to a slightly more difficult idea. He'd achieved 'using' it, now he needed to learn the basics of really controlling it. It was one thing to shoot energy, it was another thing to wield a genuine command of the power.

Kyle closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths. When he opened them again, he held his hand up in front of him like he was holding up a ball. Breathing a few more times, he made effort to will a floating sphere of energy to form in the palm of his hand.

That... wasn't as helpful as I'd hoped, but it did give me something to start with. My next experiment, after all, was trying to work with my affinity for water.

I took a deep breath and imagined myself opening a book of my memories, taking me back to times I'd spent at the beach. Times with the waves crashing down around me, trying to drag me down into the sand below. I had always loved those ferocious waves.

I remembered those moments, and I reached out to grab one. To grab the wave in my head and make it real. The strength, the power, and perhaps most importantly, the very nature of it as water, with which I had an affinity.

The magic ran like a group of children on a hill, exploding from his hand like a multicolored firework, rocketing in the sky with the sounds of laughter and cries of joy, vanishing after a few seconds.

His magic still behaved like a sun.
