From the Egg to the Stars (A Dragon Quest)

i dont think i ever got a answer on how the progression works as it is now if a skill is above the stat it relies on it takes more to upgrade it ex: Knowledge (Dragons) (Int) (Rank 2) (0/6) if we get this to 4/6 and then we upgrade int to 3 does it then auto rank up or does it require another action and do any points rollover

That is an interesting question. And I'll actually need to go over my model in order to figure out what to do. I'm thinking give you the rank up, but no exp rolls over atm, but this might change.

No exp roll over would make it abit harder to raise low level skills, then it would do for higher level as the amount of exp that is need for that is a low higher then the lower one a bit of lost exp doesn´t matter that much.
Also if there is a max of exp that we can get from an action that doesn´t really scale then it will could make leveling up low level skill really painful at times.

Edit: one way to deal with the roll over would be to half the amount of exp that overflows.

I think I see what you mean, though I don't really like the idea of people cheesing the system that way. A 4/6 would become 4/3, resulting in a skill up and a leftover of 1exp, which is then put towards the next level, which would be 1/8 because I really doubt you'll be able to pull off a double attribute up.

Alrighty everyone. An update on my situation: I've managed to get an extension on my thesis due to my poor health. This has lead me to being slightly less stressed as I no longer quite feel the weight of time pressing down upon me. While my Thesis is still ongoing, I've decided that enough is enough and I want to continue this quest regardless. So I'll be writing the next update today and possibly tomorrow (depending on how quickly I write/What sort of insane shenanigans occur)

Watch this space, for your favourite baby dragon shall return!

Climbing Trees
BOOP!
---
[X] Escape Alaina's embrace. Errybody look out, little dragonling's got stuff to do!
-[X] Climb the Jeweltree.

You try and lie still. Alaina's embrace is warm and comfortable, but there's just so much to see and do, and she's taking so long to wake up! You decide that you must escape these comfy confines, so that you can give the room around you a good explore.

Stealth-Test – Difficulty 6 (5 +2 (Close Quarters) -1 (Heavy Sleeper)) Rolled: 8,6,5,6,1: 3(-1) Successes - 2 Successes

With the grace and stealth of your small size, you squeeze out of Alaina's embrace and hop off the bed into a nearby patch of flowers. Stalking your way through an imaginary jungle, you hunt the elusive shiny bug of deliciousness. Following its invisible trail, highlighted by your excellent imagination, you find that it's hidden itself in the tree that forms the jewelled canopy above you.

Your path clear, you work your way as stealthily as you can towards the tree. Your more ethereal senses tell you that it is an absolute riot of magics, all bending and flowing together into something greater than the sum of its parts. Deciding that it would probably be easier to make sense of if you looked at it closer, your imagination supplies a handy excuse.

Leaping forward as you spy the elusive shiny bug of deliciousness once more, you dart towards the tree. Your claws extend in preparation as you weave through the undergrowth towards it with nary a whisper.

Climbing-Test – Difficulty 3 (5 -1 (Rough Surface) -1(???)) Rolled: 5,8: 2 Successes

Like a shot, you begin to climb! The tree's rough bark catches easily on your claws as you shoot up its length, chasing your imaginary excuse. The shiny bug will be yours! You find that the tree's bark, while pliable and grippy on your claws, is also rather resilient. This allows you to climb with ease.

Soon, you're leaping from branch to branch, barely halting your ascent as you follow the trails of magic towards a central point somewhere deep into the tree's canopy. As you go, you can feel the magic growing more powerful and condensed as it reaches a nexus point. With your eyes, you can see a massive emerald inside of the top of the tree. The magic surrounding you flows in and out of the crystal in great streams, diffusing into the air around you. Even with your magical senses closed off, the crystal is glowing brightly, so bright that you can barely see inside.

And so, your curiosity leads you to focus and open your eyes, both astral and not…

Int-Test – Difficulty 7 (5 +1 (That's a lot of magic) +1(You have no idea what this is)) Rolled: 2,1: 0(-1) Successes: -1 Successes, Critical Failure!

SCALES AND STARS THIS IS BRIGHT! Looking into the nexus, this vortex of magic, is like staring into the sun. Sensory overload is immediate as your magical senses try to take in far too much information at once, and you're stunned as the glow hits you like a punch to the face. It nearly topples you out of the tree to the floor below!

Trait Gained – Disoriented – Stunned and confused, you will find doing things more difficult until you recover. (+1 to all Ability and Skill test difficulties)

Looking down, you can see the floor. From where you are right now, it seems awfully far away. Instinctively you let out a small yowl of distress, your claws digging into the wood beneath you in an attempt to stay as still as possible until help arrives.

Disturbed from her slumber, you watch as Alaina begins to wake. However, her eyes remain shut and you can see the sun just beginning to crest the horizon now. Laurel is probably at least another hour away.

How do you get down?

[] Climb! Of course! - You found the way up, so you can find a way down, right?
[] Wake Alaina – Making an audible plea to wake Alaina might get her to wake up early, but she might not be happy with you for disturbing her sleep.
[] Stand here, frozen because this is entirely too scary.
[] Write-in

Next update will most definitely take less time to write than this one :p

Well, guys, I'm afraid this is it for poor Neptune. Alone, trapped in an inescapable magical tree, cut off from allies, low on provisions. No one expected the bad end to happen so soon. Oh, Cruel World!

We can only hope Neptune's other siblings are more fortunate.

I only see one hope for survival. Neptune is, after all, a powerful magical prodigy.

[X] Attempt to fall asleep and contact Alaina in her dreams

[X]Fly! You have wings. Holly's memories showed you how. Fly little dragon, fly!

Edit: When yes I know this is likely the most difficult way of doing it, why do you ask?

Eh, even with the penalty it should still be a 4 difficulty if you wanted to climb down.

But that has no style.

[X] Catherine said you can't fly yet, but not that you can't glide! Coast down like a leaf in the wind!
