The Awakening
Location
USA
Under the ground movement ignited. Tendrils long since static raced between rock and stone once more, black and red matter formed and twisted into esoteric shapes and designs. The surface far above crumbled as the matter that it rested upon for the past eons shifted and broke for the first time since time immemorial. Sinkholes hundreds of feet across and several hundred deep collapsed without warning across the plane, the rumble of earth shifting was deafening to any that might have heard the sound. Even as some of the surface sunk below the ground others erupted into spires of rock and biological matter that pierced the sky.

A forest of spires of rock and living matter stood upon the surface even as the land below shook and quaked from the rumbling far below. Rock broke asunder and shattered into dust as the movements became ever more vicious. Lava poured into chambers forgotten for eons by now and the last of the water of Earth trapped below the ground for uncountable years flashed into steam and raced up towards the surface.

As the steam raced forth it condensed back into water as it went only to push ever higher as the shifting of the matter below pushed it up ever closer to the surface. At last with a mighty push the capstones of rock that had sealed the water away all the years ago crumbled under its weight and burning water leaped into the air only to come crashing back down. As the water fell to the ground the tendrils shaped the land both under and aboveground to guide the water.

With a mighty eruption pillars of steam and water erupted across the land visible for tens of miles around. Water flowed into long empty basins once more as the tendrils acted of their own accord to shape the land and water to their design. As the yellow sun dipped below the horizon Yellowstone lived once more as the pools where reshaped by the might of the one below and filled with the last of the water of the Earth, the geysers spoke their existence once more as a full half of them erupted at once sending plums of water far into the air. For the first time in centuries rain fell upon the parched surface of Earth. The bands of humans that where within this area found themselves blessed with water and looked towards the source and began to move towards there. Some of the others looked towards the source and felt worry as they saw their end in the coming salvation, and yet a small group hastened their steps as their goal was near and they knew that this was a sign that they where on the correct path all of this time.

Within a massive cave lay a amorphous entity of flesh that seemed to be all but dead. This entity had once united the whole of humanity against his very existence, weapons of unmatched power where authorized to be used upon him. The resources of entire nations sent into the war against him. All brought to fight him under the cover of lies and arrogance of humans. He had shattered countless forces in the past entire militaries where gutted by his wrath and nations spent decades rebuilding from his path and yet even so many countless years later he lived on, hidden underground for all this time. If the nations of his time had simply thought to look under the ground he would have been found and yet they didn't and thus he and his few allies escaped their reach. Forevermore he waited asleep under the ground waiting for the day to reemerge to the surface. He wished to live among his kind once more and not suffer their fear and hatred and yet he had long since missed that time. Technology lay shattered upon the surface the world dying every day piece by piece, and the one that had once been thought to bring ruin to earth might be the only one able to truly save it.

Tendrils that hadn't moved for thousands of years suddenly shook with energy as their muscles contracted for the first time in so long, with a snap they sheared away the connections to the larger body of their mass and at once the heart of the creature moved. The mass began to compact inward as the driving mind behind it slowly began to return to awareness. From the mass came a rough shape then limbs and with a final impossible action the full amount of it was compacted into the shape of a human. Two other humans reemerged from the collapsing matter as the first began to form. Only a scant few hours after the beginning three humans lay upon the ground of the cave.

It felt like the weight of countless years had been placed upon his mind as he began to conceive of anything but nothingness. The voices that had been a constant companion to his thoughts where silent and the emptiness of their voices seemed to echo within the vaults of his mind. Long ago he had wished for mastery over the voices that he had with him, then he had moved from there to wishing for them to simply talk and not scream and now he wished for them to return to his mind and fill the void that their presence seemed to have masked over his entire life. Even as his mind began to function once more so do did their voices return to him, filling the vault that had been empty with sound once more and yet different no longer where they screaming their every thought but full comprehensible thoughts drifted within the vault now. Every second more minds reawakened from their long slumber dragging themselves forth and into the light of awareness once more.

"Well this is wonderful. We are now trapped in the bottom of a massive cave. Brother did you really have to do this and how the hell are we supposed to get out of this place?" Spoke Dana from the other side of the cave as she regained awareness of herself and the location that they where in.

"I doubt it will be as difficult as you think Ms. Mercer, I have reason to believe that we are closer to Alex's nature than that of normal humans in some areas. Even if that is not the case he will be able to either carry us up and out or simply grow a tendril to do the same. Of course that means he has to get up and that is taking him a while it seems" Bradley groaned as he sat up against the stone wall a good distance from where Dana sat.

With a groan the last member of the party spoke in a voice that had multiple tones to it, "I am awake once more. Ugh, this is going to take decades to reorganize my genetics, everything is screwed up or in the wrong place. So many new mutations to place in the correct locations, activate and master. I really loathe my nature right now. In other news the Hive is recompiling as we speak, I estimate about two thirds of all the minds in it are awake or some level of awareness currently. The rest will probably wake up in the next two days or so. And well, it seems that Blacklight has gone out of control during my rest, it seems that blacklight has replaced about almost all of the rock in the general area somehow. Hmm, from what I can tell based on how blacklight grew and the rate of continental drift we have slept for something around twenty two thousand years and some change. Hopefully that means the rest of humanity won't attack me on sight or detection."

"its great that you feel good and are happy but we are kinda trapped in this cave if you haven't noticed." Snapped Dana from where she was leaning against the wall. Walking over to the wall Alex placed his hand on it and with a squish the wall snapped open revealing a ramp leading up. "Not so much trapped as just a bit of a hike down from the surface. We should probably start the trek, even if it should only take a few minutes considering your physical abilities are closer to mine than that of a human. That reminds me I will have to teach you how to control your strength soon, but for now lets get out of here."

As the three made their way into the corridor form from the flesh of blacklight all three of them wondered what they would find on the surface. Alex wished to find a city of immense technology and people of intelligence so that he may join in the purist of science once more, Dana just wanted to find a place where she could be just another person and Bradley wished for a place where he could either rejoin the sciences or medical field once more. As they drew ever closer to the surface Alex's expression faded from its hopeful cast towards a mournful expression as he felt no echo of movement above through the rest of his body, no actions whatsoever stirred the surface of his massive form, as the final area peeled away from their path they saw the truth. A barren wasteland of rock and spires of rock and blacklight with geysers seeming to announce their arrival, the only sign of life was in front of them. In the cave they had emerged within lay a peaceful oasis with plants and animals scurrying around. "They are held together mostly by my existence. Blacklight it seems has discovered how to forge a working ecosystem while I slept, but its also only a sign of how far Earth has fallen. This small area of plants and animals is the single largest amount of movement within a large area. There are groups of what have to be humans walking towards this place with one in particular ahead of the rest." Alex whispered in an almost dead tone of voice, "I knew that this was a possibility but to see earth and our kind fallen so far even from our time is beyond my worst thoughts. Even Greene in her own way is horrified at this sight, but the hive is united for once in their horror." Looking up towards the sky Alex saw the stars and remembered the amount of time that had past spoke once more in a more hopeful yet still dead tone "Perhaps all is not yet lost for our people. The stars still shine and where there are stars are worlds. With the amount of time we slept for there could be countless worlds holding humans out among the void."

"What can we do here? We have no resources or supplies for a long term effort, we will die upon this dead rock. Ironic isn't considering that we have a person that can break the laws of biology and yet will still die to the same laws." Groused Dana as she took in the outside land. "Not necessarily. There is a good chance that blacklight could repair the world enough to allow for plants to grow and as we can see here it has the ability to forge animals. It is very much possible to restore the Earth once more, provided we have the time to do so." Bradley spoke with an optimistic tone of voice working to calm both Dana and Alex from their discovery of the state of the Earth.

"Our choice regarding the earth is currently immaterial, its more important to discover where the state of nations and people are. There are already minds within the Hive working to forge uplift plans using the science of statistics and archeology. I personally find it odd that there are people with such backgrounds in the Hive but I wasn't very picky during the Outbreak after all. Regardless, the most important thing is to figure out the general state of things before we start poking it. However, looking around I find it near impossible to believe that we won't be invincible at the moment." Alex spoke as the Hive forged plans in fractions of seconds only to cast them aside.

"What do you mean invincible right now?" Stuttered Dana as she of the three had the strongest connection to the rest of the species, and becoming something else weighted upon her mind heavily. Until now she had been able to push the new senses that she had gained to the back of her mind and their their trip from the cave to the surface had allowed her to deceive herself on just how fast they had moved, but now there was no way to hide from the truth.

"As I said before the two of you are closer to me in nature than normal humans. In comparison you are each more powerful than I was at first. You don't share my true nature but your bodies will evolve over time in conjunction with mine. If the calculations I did are correct you should each be able to reach speeds roughly around the speed of sound and handle anything up to a few kilotons of explosive force with little more than irritation. Your strength is similarly increased and I managed to pin down the gene that sends physics crying and added it to your genetic codes. The reason I think we won't have much problems here is the state of earth seems ruined beyond recovery and as such technology will either not function or very few will know how to use any items that yet remain and our bodies are great enough to withstand pretty much anything biological that I am aware of. As far as I know without high technology probably even Sci-fi level technology at that point we are pretty much untouchable. Which is probably good considering that there seem to be ten bands of people heading roughly towards us, with one band far ahead of the rest it seems. I am currently sending out tendrils to investigate them and the surrounding areas, but we have a larger problem; language barriers over twenty thousand years has passed and as such the odds of them speaking any thin that we know is only above zero percent due to zero percent being something that is impossible. Even with the Hive I doubt we can count on getting a translation workin fast enough so ideas?."

Important people
Currently known people (from perspective of Alex)
My sister, the one that held me in times of greatest need. I listen to her advice as she is closer to humanity than I ever could be. Any actions I take shall be weighted against her morals helping me remain true to my chosen path.
The first person to aid me for reasons beyond heritage. I can always rely upon him to act calmly in situations that would break most normal humans. If I ever need a helping hand with biology I refer to him and he has learned much of my nature with my help. He is more pragmatic than Dana but still holds to certain tenets of behavior that serves well in keeping me upon the correct path. I listen to his words upon my chosen actions and his counsel is taken into count.
The speaker of the Hive. An odd person for the job but he seems to be open to working with me.

God information and current state
Currently civilization is impossible beyond village level with a max of a thousand people in the village. Mostly due to the shattered ecosystem and lack of other resources. If Earth is to be saved this must be corrected

A shadow looms in the future only three fourth of a hundred remain before a storm breaks. Prepare your domain well for the coming storm for it shall bring wrath unending upon you.

Learning the language
Chosen Vote:
[X] Trap all the bands in an ever shifting area via Blacklight until you know more about them
-[X] Use Linguists and Codebreakers in the Hive to figure out the common language by listening in

The blacklight laying under the surface motionless snapped into motion by the command of the avatar of the Hive. Rock and dirt shifted to his command as even the deep reaches of the earth bent to his will, the sinkholes and spires of rock and biomass sifted without order as he get watch over the bands that where within the area.

Each mind that was of the Hive fed patterns into the matrix and from the uncountable minds a pattern beyond any was created and implemented. The progress of the bands slowed to a halt as the very terrain of the world betrayed them. Sinkholes and spires where formed and removed within seconds to craft a labyrinthine structure from which no normal human could hope to find a path through. Five of the ten bands suffered in this area as they lost their composure in their terror and only by the quick actions of the hive did they live to see another day. Five of the ten survived the mind bending reality that they where subject to at the will of the master of blacklight.

However, far from creating gratuitous terror it was all for a plan of Alex that they suffered as such. For their language was not theirs and thus he and the others needed to be able to converse with them on an even field. Otherwise this would only be the first event of great terror he would be responsible for against the people he sought to aid.

Alex listened to their words and even with his unequaled intelligence he was still at a loss for the language he heard was the result of over twenty two thousand years of evolution and divergence from his known languages. He needed a way to provide himself with understanding and the only way to achieve such a thing was to delve into the Hive and wield its power in accordance with his will. Even with the Hive nominally under his command he was loath to enforce his will upon it for all of the people that lived within it had earned their peace from him, but in the end, needs must.

Closing his eyes Alex dropped into the Hive, in the early days of his life the Overmind was beyond his understanding and his reach. Unlike the other myriad strains that Blackwatch created from Redlight he was the only one not connected to the greater Mind upon creation. This lack paved the way for his ascendence over the Hive in later years as Greene was unable to control him, mind and body as she did the rest of the child strains. Now he would remove one of the barriers that remained between him and what she had been.

In the beginning the Hive was formless and unstable only adding to the strain upon the minds within, but now after the eons of sleep and his greater will the Hive had at last some structure to it. Appearing as a massive theater with rows of stone carved into seats surrounding a center point in which he manifested. Over a hundred thousand people stared down upon him as for the first time the full power of the Hive was unleashed.

"The wayward child returns to the fold. Listen to Mother and surrender to us." whispered Greene from her place upon the rows of stone, "You are incredibly brave to enter this realm after you ate us." snarled Randall from his seat across from Greene.

"People, look upon the world that we have entered. We have slept beyond the limits of my plan and now we reap the fruits of my failure, Earth is dead and twenty two thousand years have past since your entry into the hive. Contrary to what the monsters of Blackwatch would tell you I never took joy in killing innocent people, most of those of you that have found yourselves within the Hive and are such are transfers. When I consumed Greene her hive became mine, and all of the people she had infected or turned into her children where restored within my hive and the few that I did consume I know that nothing can bring your life back but I could in time forge bodies of Blacklight for each and every single one of you if you wished. Greene and Randall both of you are mirrors of each other in most ways and as such if it was up to me I would simply consign you both to oblivion and tear you from the Hive, however your existence rests upon Dana's choice for I refuse to walk the path of the Absolute Judge. I come before you now not to enforce a ruling as a King but as a person that seeks help. Codebreakers and linguists among your numbers I ask for your assistance in deciphering a language of the current time. In this task the limits of the Hive shall be removed for your work I only ask for you to aid me, not for me but for the people of this dying world."

"I see your point and there is no real need to worry about Blackwatch or Greene being a problem. I was able to shut up Greene in the early days when ever she tried to get you to go and murder everyone in the world and keep Randall and his merry band of psychos contained to a small region of the Hive during the past. I can confirm his statements as you know I am one of the few that can see outside of the Hive and he speaks the truth. Anyone with experience in languages or codebreaking should aid him or more people will join us and I personally don't want more members to wangle. Especially if they prove to be as strange as Greene or Blackwatch tend to be." Spoke one of the figures on a more embellished seat closer to the bottom of the theater.

"Who are you to command such respect among the people of the Hive?" Alex asked the sitting figure.

"I was Specialist Robert Williams in the Army of the United States in the fifth year of the Black War. I was always considered a prodigy of my class and moved up the ranks faster than most people could even hope to achieve. The Hive was just another battle field for me when I was consumed and as such I tried to bring order to it and from my work the greater Hive respects my word a bit more than most other minds with us. However, you are limiting the hive massively right now for some reason I am not sure of, we are not able to truly reach the level of Greene's hive even if our hive is greater than hers in most ways. You should leave this realm for now as the greater Hive is not yet here and is less than please to be in this state and I will organize things on this side for you. Just lower the limits and we will have the language decoded within a minute." Robert spoke with quite confidence in his words and Alex nodded as he knew that his work was done for now within the Hive.

As he drew himself together to leave he felt for the limits he had placed upon the Hive and released them for this task. With a single look back he left to rejoin the true world, as his eyes opened he saw that virtually no time had passed within the Hive as he had talked with the victims of his actions. Only a few seconds after he returned to awareness knowledge of words and grammar streamed into his mind from the Hive. Robert was good to his word it seemed as he had gotten the Hive to provide the needed information for him.

Now it was time to meet with the bands and yet he had to decide how to meet them.

[] Open a path for all fo the bands to come to you at the same time

[] Open a path for a single band to come for you (there are ten bands for this. the closest is 1 and the farthest is 10 label the one you want with a number between 1 and 10)

[] Make all bands meet and then join them in human form

[] Make all bands meet and then meet them in armored form

[] Write in a way to meet them. Any votes for a outright attack are weighed at a 0.25 value.

Preparing for the Meeting
With the language learned it was time to meet the people of this time. There where several ways to begin this process and yet they all had problems so he had to find the way to limit the issues that would arise without causing yet more.

A tricky problem for a normal human that was limited to the brain of a single person but trivial for him. The hive had payed dividends already the Sociologists had crunched the numbers working with other scientists in his mind to calculate the best possible ways to meet with such unknown beings.

From all corners of the Hive came information and ideas, with the relaxing of the limitations he had placed so long ago the hive thrummed with energy and life. Nearly a million minds working together to solve problems, already he could feel separations arising within the greater Hive portions of people splitting off from the unity to forge smaller Hives of individual purpose.

Robert however was guiding all that passed within the Hive. Alex and him found themselves in communication as he relayed information from the deeper reaches of the Hive to the surface and all other layers. In minutes the Hive that had once been a place of insanity had become sane as the limits where released and the truth of the Hive was unlocked.

Alex found himself troubled from the reports of the bands that had simply shattered under his hold as the landscape moving as he wished had been one thing too many this day for them. Even in this wretched world humans where still fragile if the right buttons where pushed and he had pushed them for half of the bands within the area. The other half seemed to take the actions in stride using contempt as their armor against the insanity they where seeing made manifest in front of them.

Regardless, Alex tore his focus from pondering their results to the plans that the Hive had created for him to use in this area. First he could direct all the bands into a single place then move to meet them there or he could open the paths to bring them to him. The first plan would result in better understanding of the bands but would place him out of range if combat started and with the state of Earth such was unacceptable. The second plan would take more time overall and give him less to work on but it would mean that he could simply shut down any instances of actions that he would prefer not to have take place.

Drawing from the wealth of information that the Hive gave up to him, he made his choice and in the next second the ever shifting labyrinth changed for the last time. Pathways opened in a blink of a human eye as blacklight altered its forms and location to the will of the Avatar, spires and sinkholes filled in or collapsed into place as his will became the shape of the land.

Three of the five bands that had suffered the most reacted to this event in a sadly predictable manner and he knew that they where likely to attack anything that they see now. The other two bands that suffered much in the earlier minutes seemed to shut down and from what the doctors of the Hive said it was likely they would fall into a coma and never wake if something didn't change.

In one of these bands a person wore a form of body armor that held disturbing similarities to his own armor. It was clear from the appearance of the armor that it was mostly biological in nature with only a bit of metal to aid it in holding shape from what he could see. "This might cause problems as I don't know how tough that armor is. Its all but guaranteed to be stronger than the best of my time, but I doubt that it could truly prevent me if killing the one wearing it if I had too." Alex pondered the implications of this discovery in his mind and the Hive before turning to the other groups.

The other groups where far better off than the previous ones as they had managed to hold together during the time that the landscape was shifting to his will. Most of these groups where completely boring from what he could tell as there was sign of any items of importance in their possession. However, one of these groups stood out of the rest as it was clear that they held several items of the past and where far less concerned with things than they should be according to the people in the Hive and his own understanding of the human mind. One of the members of this group was acting bizarrely, bouncing all over the place like a child but also doing actions that got the entire hive to scream idiot into his head. "Okay, something is wrong with that guy. Something to ask anyway." Alex muttered to himself as he turned away from observing the bands.

He knew that they had around 3 hours before the bands reached their location and during this time it would probably be prudent to build a good meeting area outside of this small cave in which life lives.

Building the Future (Part 1)
In the end the choice was simple. He didn't wish for the people of this time to view him as a ruler but as another person thus a building meant to enforce his commands was discarded from the options he might take. Instead it would be far more productive to build an area in which to conduct diplomacy the one action that he had never truly been able to test himself in due to the war and outbreaks. Thankfully, even with his atrocious understanding of diplomacy the Hive would allow him to see problems forming before they truly arise.

From within the Hive ideas came streaming forth, as the architects and sociologists joined their fields of study together and communicated at the speed of thought to build plans and schematics. Joining them where other fields as they too sought to make their mark upon the world and anthropologists joined in giving their expertise in the past of humanity to the others, quickly joined by the psychologists who in turn gave of their knowledge of the human mind. All meshing into a single group.

As the plans where forged within the Hive and given to Alex, the ground cracked as filaments of blacklight raced forth into the sky. The thin filaments of red and black twisted around each other as they flowed in and out building ever increasing fractal patterns into the structure. As the base parts of the structure filled into being as the filaments thickened as more matter was drawn into them the thin lines became pillars that reach a full height of thirty feet above the ground. Even thinner tendrils skittered across the ground as they picked up pieces of dust and stone, which was then used to cover the surface of the pillars.

As the pillars where finished trillions of feelers spilt away from the pillars and flashed across their surface nudging sand and grit into the correct position. Light was precisely bent via lens formed form yet more pieces of blacklight to bring the images to life. Across the pillars now blazed images of the world, from Stonehenge to Yellowstone of the far past to the pyramids of Egypt all stood as proud images of the past of humanity.

With the pillars built the floor shattered as trillions of thin filaments of blacklight raced upward filling in the opening left behind. Within three floors formed as tendrils stretched forth to cover the empty space between the pillars without disrupting the images upon them. The furnishings of a normal building of the twenty first century soon followed the flooring as parts of blacklight spilt away from the greater mass to form separate items of immense detail. Within the main room upon the third floor a triangular table formed with enough seats to fit eighty four people of various size and the lower floors where stocked with places for weary travelers to rest for a time.

Along with the furniture came restrooms where water was drawn from deep underground using genetics from the plant life of the past to feed the water into the building. Blacklight was formed into taps and drains in oder to reclaim the used water before purifying it from the waste that it would soon be filled with, integrated with bladders in which chemical reaction took place to keep the water at normal temperature of steaming. Next to the restrooms formed rooms in which beds formed from fibrous strands of blacklight guided by the hive to be comfortable and breath easily.

Once all of the interior was done there stood a building that would have been considered a small, yet top tier hotel and conference building in 2008. All that was left was the outside and following the interior the exterior was built in the same form. Shaped to guide the human mind to calmness and to lower the feeling of aggression while within its borders. The colors was the only sticking point as there where too few chemicals to alter the color of the base material well enough to make it worth while to do so. Instead of doing a substandard work the Hive investigated and found a new way of handling this problem. Blacklight dipped into the water that had now refilled most of the Yellowstone basins and unleashed into the waters microorganisms that would hunt and collect the needed resources from the water to color the building in a paste. As the microbes increased in size so did the colors of the pools until each pool was a vibrant color chosen for its ability to calm people down. Once the growing was done now came the harvest where blacklight carefully removed all of the microbes from the pools and within a single moment altered them from a living entity into a paste. This paste was then used to cover the building providing color to it and smoothing the edges.

With the building finished for the first time there was a ordered form of blacklight without being Alex and minds from within the Hive drifted from the center of the nexus over to the new building. Within they found more room and space to expand their minds increasing the amount of power that was open to them. Alex and the hive both realized the meaning of this at once; the hive was focused around Alex or other such avatars of a virus but buildings could amplify the signal increasing the resources that the members of the hive could draw upon. This in turn would allow the hive to both become stronger and more powerful but also possibly more likely to suffer internal wars of minds once again.

Building the future part 2
The three of them, the ones misplaced in time where waiting for the arrival of the ones of this time. Alex and Dana both knew where they where and their arrival was planned the building was finished and ready, the water purified by filters grown from the biomass of blacklight and cleaned for use by humans. Ragland was off to the side thinking of how the genetics of humanity would have changed over the intervening eons from their time.

After all the humans of this time would have had twenty four thousand years to continue to evolve and improve their bodies over them, which meant that he wasn't confident that Alex was correct in saying that they where all but unkillable due to their enhanced bodies. After all what is to say that they didn't master the virus and use it to improve their bodies much like Alex did with them.

While Ragland tinkered with the genetic permutations of the evolution of humanity, Dana was exploring her new sense. She found that information flowed into her mind as she asked for it, everything from advanced physics to architecture was at her mental fingertips. Thanks to this flow of knowledge she quickly realized that she was somehow connected to the Hive and through it was able to call upon the knowledge of the people within its confines. However, she knew that unlike her brother she didn't hold the full amount at will but needed to call upon the parts she so wished to use. Where Alex could combine any amount of parts he needed she was limited to a single branch at the moment for her mind was unable to hold the combined knowledge of the total Hive.

The shifting landscape was being used to direct the bands to them without them meeting each other for such an event could spell disaster for them all. Alex could sense the 84 people getting closer to them every minute of the day. As the sun raised into the sky spilling its yellow light across the world, he began to see the images of the humans with his eyes. Still hazy from the distance but he could see that they where there without needing the ground to be his senses. From where he stood he couldn't yet truly make them out but he could see enough to tell if they would attack each other. As time passed Alex relaxed as it become ever more clear that he would not be needed to stop a fight from killing people for now.

Just as the shapes of the people began to become clear a scream rang out from one of the bands as a large man came charging forth. His speed was great enough to blur to the eyes of normal humans but not fast enough to escape the sight of Mercer. His scream never stopping even as he reached Alex before attempting to stab him with a knife. With a blink of total surprise and confusion Alex reacted. With a flick of his hand he shattered the knife into countless shards that where caught within the grasp of fibers of his body, before he reached out with his other hand and closed his hand around the screaming mans throat. "Stop screaming. I am not going to hurt you and why did you attack me?" Alex asked in a tone usually reserved for times when animals did something beyond stupid. The man just kept screaming and started to punch Alex's body in response to the question. Looking beyond the man he held within his hand he saw the still blurry shapes of the bands becoming clearer and he knew that he had options for this man.

He could simply consume the idiot or insane person and see if that might get him something useful but of course that would most likely make his fellows unhappy about losing him to an unknown threat. Second he could simply drop the man into a hole in the ground and return him to the band that he came from if they so asked and finally he could simply throw him back the way he came.

[] Consume the screaming man and possibly suffer a modifier to upcoming diplomacy
[] Stuff the man into a hole in the ground
--[] and ask the people if you can have him join your group
--
[] just return him to the group later
[] they are close enough for you to throw the man to. just toss him back to them.

The Beginning of the Meeting
A hole snapped open beneath his feet and without looking he simply dropped the still screaming man. Under the pull of gravity the man dropped down the sixty three feet deep hole that was going to be his prison for the time being for the other options where untenable for Alex's purpose. He didn't know enough of the people that he was going to be meeting soon, to judge how they would react to losing one of their number in an unexplained fashion. Which meant that his options if he wanted to begin again with humanity on a better footing that he would need to keep the questionable actions to a minimum, at least until he was truly trusted by the coming people.

As the shapes came closer Alex drew into his body and shifted though the mass of genes and alleles that he had gathered over the time he slept. Even with the disorganization that he was suffering from it was only the work of a few seconds to alter his eyes to see further than anything on Earth had ever achieved before. Next to him, Bradley was looking towards the fuzzy shapes of the coming people, knowing that a normal human would be unable to see even that at this distance. However, he wished to see more and in the back of his mind a gift that had been given over the slumber awoke for the first time. Genes snapped into place, proteins where reshaped even as Bradley's brain was reshaped to allow by the gift, with a sicking change in perception he could see the oncoming bands. Even with the gift helping him, Bradley at his core was still too human to handle the influx of information that he was now seeing.

With a gasp of pain he collapsed to the ground even as the alterations to his body began to fade away. Alex smiled even as he knelt to make sure that Bradley was well, as he was fully aware of what had just happened. "It looks like you gained the ability to shape biology much as I can. However, it seems that your gift doesn't allow you to make full use of it right now. After this meeting I will assist you in learning how to use it," spoke Alex in a calming tone to the shuddering form of Bradley. Alex considered removing him from the meeting and simply let him heal naturally, but even with the Hive and Dana, he was uncertain if he would be able to handle the eighty four people that would be in the meeting. Placing his right hand on Bradley's back he slipped tendrils of his body into Ragland's body, seeking out the places where his uncontrolled use of the gift that he had been given had harmed him. With relative ease Alex soothed the damaged cells with his own body, quickly bringing Ragland back to the world.

"What was that? It felt like my head was going to pop," moaned Bradley as he climbed back to his feet. "That was you unlocking a remnant of the time I spent rebuilding your body. You and Dana are connected to me and through me to the Hive. Through this connection you have each been given one echo of my powers. You seem to have gained the power to shape and alter the bodies of living organisms, including yourself. This later part is what caused the problem as it altered your brain, but you couldn't handle the changes and that caused the headache." Alex stated with confidence, now that Ragland was back on his feet looking far better than before.

Twenty minutes after Ragland's ill fated experience with his new gift, the bands of humans left the valleys of Blacklight that where leading them to the place where Alex waited. In the front of them walked one persons that the Hive quickly identified as being the leader of each band with their guard to their side but a few steps back. The fourth band to enter the area was wrong, in some fashion even if the Hive was unable to truly determine what was wrong.

They wore black and green robes with what seemed to be fungus growing upon them. As the final of them came into the area they appeared to look around at the others before turning towards Alex who stood in the center of the cleared area. The leader raised his right hand which held a dagger shouting, "For the Grandfather," before charging towards Alex even as his six followers raced towards the other bands already in the area. Alex was beyond confused about what had been happing to the point where the tip of the knife touched the surface of his body. From this single touch a virus entered his form and attempted to harm him, Blacklight rebelled against the intruder and over the course of the next millisecond the newcomer was brutally destroyed by Blacklight and the parts that where harmed by it where cast from Alex's body. Even as his body forced the virus into submission, he was being attacked by the person that had charged at him. Releasing his full power he unleashed a punch that would have shattered an entire main battle tank of his time turning the crazed man into little more than a mist. Moving with such speed that bullets would seem slow in comparison, Alex raced into the battle, each millisecond that passed was another person tuned into little more than bloody mist. As seven milliseconds came to a close the battle was over with all of the attackers nothing more than a smear of blood upon the ground.

"Well, that was interesting, a cult of plagues an unusual sight these days. Most of them have been killed off by the planners of the areas as their refusal to change their tactics dooms them. Regardless, I am Rhianira, and I lead this band of people. Now what are you: a monster of times long past, something that cults like those worship or are you neither?" Rhianira spoke while unsheathing a bladed weapon that the Hive quickly identified as a normal sword, if of an unknown shape and metal.

Alex looked around before replying, "I will answer your questions inside the building behind me. Make your way to the third floor and I will meet you there. I am Alex Mercer and the two with me are: Bradley Ragland and Dana Mercer. Do not attack us and we will not attack you," before turning and retreating into the building.

As the remaining seventy seven people began to walk into the building they looked around at the walls of what seemed to be stone and glass. The work of the Hive had been well as the shifting beams of light calmed them down, while the murals on the walls gave them something to look upon. The floor was unusual to them for they where accustomed to the solid ground and the floor upon which they walked gave way under their footsteps. The winding staircase that lead upward reveled to them images of the past and visions of the future. As they reached the top of the staircase they saw a massive table triangular in shape with Alex at the tip and to his left sat Bradley, while to his right sat Dana Mercer.

As the seventy seven people took their seats at the table the leader of the third band began to speak,, in a tone best described as worried "What are you? You are not human for no human that I know of can act that fast." With a sigh, Alex rubbed his forehead as he knew that his actions in killing the attacker were coming back to bit him now. "I am different from normal humans. My body is far better suited to handle speeds and forces that would crush or otherwise severely harm a normal human, thanks to genetic engineering in my early life. I only just awoke a few hours ago in a stasis vault under the area in which we are sitting. Unfortunately, our awakening must have disturbed the ground around us and caused a rapid cave in. We only barely managed to escape with out lives, even with our genetic augmentations."

Amira snarled as the man in front of her spoke barefaced lies in response to her inquiry. "You expect me to believe that you somehow woke up from stasis just before a cave in, then still completely out of your mind on the stasis drugs to somehow escape the cave-in that has completely hidden this supposed vault? Even with our understanding of the technology gone we still know some things regarding it and one thing everyone knows is that leaving stasis rapidly is a quick way to die." Just as she finished speaking her part the leader of the fifth band spoke up in rough hoarse voice, "I agree with the leader of the third band. You are obviously trying to hide something from us. What is it?" Was all he said before falling silent once more.

With his bluff facing problems Alex knew he had to act fast to salvage this from deteriorating ever more. Thankfully from what the hive could infer is that all of the other bands where accepting of his statements and if he could provide a reasonable answer to the questions of the third and fifth bands he would be set, as the other groups would most likely aid him in convincing the two suspicious groups.

How to respond to the questions raised
[] ignore the complaints and see if you can distract them
[] see if you can use your past to convince them that you are telling the truth
[] reveal the truth (most likely to cause problems with the other bands)
[] try to get the other bands to support your story
[] write in

What topics are you going to ask for information on
[] overview of general terms/factions

The middle of the Meeting
"I do not really care about how you see me in truth. Right now the only reason, I am spending so much effort to meet with the nine of you is due to my lack of information about this time period. If you will not enlighten me about the state of the world, then I can very easily simply leave and find another band to gather the information from. It also seems that your own objections to my statements are faulty as you, yourself stated that you know little of the past, yet enough to know that my story was wrong. However, you seem to have missed a simple problem with your rebuttal to my statements, which is that our augments allow us to avoid the normal symptoms that come from leaving cryo-sleep. If you claim to know enough of the old world to prove that this is impossible then please do prove it," spoke Alex in a bored yet calm tone that people from the second millennium would recognize as the tone of doctors or other professions speaking of their area of expertise. To the people at his table all they knew is that he spoke with confidence and of the nine leaders eight of them nodded along as he spoke.

The ones that had accepted his story at face value, simply nodded as their opinions were born out in his statements. Amira was shaking her head as he outlined his claim in the calm tone, looking like she wanted to interrupt, but never finding the right moment to do so. When he had finished speaking, she opened her mouth to speak, but closed it before saying anything before responding, "It seems that I was hasty in my words as you are right that my knowledge of the past is less than complete as is all of our knowledge here," as she feel silent the fifth band's leader spoke up; "I feel that your story is too clean and orderly, but there is nothing that I can truly point to that is impossible. All I can say is that it is too clean for my likening, too many things falling into place just at the precise moments that would best suit your future and existence. It sounds like the kind of plan that the Twisted ones forge time and time again. I suggest to everyone at this table to be wary of his words for if he is Twisted then we are in great danger." The leader spoke in a voice that to the humans at the table, was stable and firm, but to the ears of Alex, Dana and Bradley they heard buried within his tones the clashing of metal upon metal and the roar of battle.

"I do not know what you mean when you say Twisted but that is why I seek information. I have slept for millennia and as such I do not know what has happened in recent times. Primarily I seek information regarding: the general overview of terms as they will have changed greatly since my slumber, any locations of interest nearby so that I can hopefully learn more about how the area has changed since my time and finally has humanity reached the stars and if we have what is the state of the galaxy." This time instead of the nearly dead tone Alex spoke with emotion in his voice that all at the table could hear.

The second leader spoke up in a voice that was nearly dead in tone, "I know much of the past and can inform you of what you seek, but the story of the past is a depressing tale that only shows how far we have truly fallen. From what I have learned three thousand years ago humanity walked the stars, we forged items of immense power as shown by the armor I wear at this very moment, and then we were cast from our throne of supremacy. The records I have found do not say much of what started our end, but they do describe what happened. Our allies of all forms of mind and body stood with us against the unknown enemy and together we broke them. The people of a thousand different homes worked as one to protect the galaxy from a threat that is unknown to me, but this war was not our end. From what I have learned is that our true end came later when the links between worlds became unusable and our federation of a billion worlds shattered in a single day. This did not break us but our own nature dealt the final blow within this system as Terra and Mars waged a war for mastery of this single system and this war shattered the life of this world. Martians come to the surface to harvest examples of our shared past and yet they know little more than we do about their true power. I have used a telescope from the ancient past to look upon the other worlds of our system, Mars is a barren wasteland of red stone and rock, Venus is covered in a shimmering shield of light, Mercury is a thriving forest and the outer worlds are either gone or broken as the humans that once lived upon them are killed by time or worst. Beyond Mars there is nothing to see but the darkness of space. For your other questions our past lays scattered around us as far as the eye can see. Relics of power can still be found buried under the wastelands of Terra these days. Once we understood how to forge items of great power, such as the armor I wear but those days are long since gone, now the few of us that yet live upon this dying world scavenge for any working relic that we can find and just hope that we can make use of it."

As she fell silent, Amira spoke again, "While she might not have been able to provide much information on the areas around this place I know for a fact that there are larger than normal amounts of people to the east and south, but that is the extent of my knowledge and I doubt that any other one here, would know much more. I am not sure what you wish to know when you mention terms and how they would have changed."

Alex nodded as he listened to the information from the two that had spoken. "it seems that my hopes have been born out. Humanity is across the stars protected from the dangers of nature and perhaps there are worlds that have yet to fall to the darkness that has taken this system. Venus must be investigated due to that shield in time but more important matters take precedence. Before you reached me a man charged at me with a knife, I was able to grab him and put him in a safe place but from whose band is he from and do you want him back?"

One of the leaders that hadn't spoken yet began to speak in a tired yet firm voice, "That man is from my band and I am frankly beyond fed up with him. He is the stupidest man I have ever met and I am more than ninety nine percent sure that the only reason he is still alive is due to him being so stupid that anyone can make him do anything. So just keep him in the hole you have him in, I don't care what happens to him but Nora might care so be careful around her." The others at the table simply nodded for removing a lability is a sensible action in this time and case.

Alex turned to Dana and Bradley before activating the Hive links between them, "I think we can convince them to join forces with us and each other as I can possibly create enough food that rationing it would allow for them to live if not in comfort then rather higher than their current circumstances." The three of them communicated over the Hive for a short time frame pondering ideas back and forth, until they came to a conclusion.

They would attempt to convince the eight leaders to join their groups together and work with the three of them to attempt to survive and in the end restore the earth.

How will they convince the bands (the more bands you try to get on side the harder it becomes)
[] - force them to join (0.25)
[] - remove the leaders from their positions (.5)
[] - focus mostly on only a few of the bands
--[] 3 bands
--[] 4 bands
--[] 5 bands
[] - try to get all the bands
[] - go to the people instead of the leaders
--[] 30
--[] 50
--[] 65
--[] all

What about the person in the hole
[] - Alex noms him at once (out of sight so no diplomacy malus)
[] - Alex just leaves him in the hole (no benefit or danger)
[] - give him back to the band that had him (diplomacy malus to band #1)

Hiding
[] - remain hiding the truth of the matter of Alex's nature
[] - reveal more than has been such as his ability to shapeshift
[] - imply the full or most of the truth in the conversation (gives the bands rolls to see if they piece it together)

Update information
The next update is going to be very late compared to the others as I have realized that my current mechanics are beyond broken and a pain to use. So until I can fix this problem the update is on hold but I am not leaving the quest. I hope to have most if not all of the mechanics fixed by the beginning of next week and the update the week after.
