Turn 3 [Earth]
UN Fleet
- Turn 3-4: Roll with advantage on Complication
Corpo Fleet
- Turn 3: Roll with disadvantage on Complication
The devastating impact of the Grewild unfolds over nearly a decade. Despite an initial united response to combat this threat, hundreds of millions in the global population die off each year. With a massive extinction event occurring across the world, it was only a matter of time before global civilization began to collapse.

As the remaining resources became increasingly scarce and widespread panic started to infiltrate every corner of the globe, nations found themselves at odds with each other. This escalating tension soon devolved into rampant chaos and relentless conflict. The once unified response to the devastating gray goo was now a distant memory, replaced by discord and strife. In light of the rapidly approaching end times, a number of nations chose to confront their longstanding rivals, seeking to settle their final scores. These confrontations were driven by various motives, whether it was the desperate fight for the dwindling resources, territorial disputes that had been simmering for generations, political rivalries that had been stoked over the years, or even deep-seated religious differences that had sparked conflict in the past. As the world teetered on the brink of collapse, these nations went to battle, each with their own reasons and justifications, adding to the turmoil of the world's final days.

As the world tumbles further into chaos, the remaining nations that elected to ally with the United Nations embark on a frantic mission. They strive to secure resources and establish launch sites all across the globe, in a desperate effort to maintain some semblance of order amidst the rapidly escalating anarchy. In an effort to preserve global heritage during these trying times, the United Nations has formulated plans to launch extensive missions. These missions are dedicated to safeguarding valuable cultural artifacts from nations and diverse groups across the world. The aim is not just to protect these items from the ravages of war, but also to ensure that the cultural legacy of these nations and groups survive for future generations to appreciate. Astonishingly, some of these missions will involve the daring extraction of artifacts directly from the chaotic heart of active war zones.

Meanwhile, the committee responsible for selecting candidates for the exodus will prioritize an additional ten thousand individuals directly involved with the exodus project. This includes a wide range of skilled professionals and dedicated personnel who have played a critical role in the planning, development, and execution of the project. These individuals include construction workers, who have tirelessly built and maintained the infrastructure necessary for the exodus; scientists, who have conducted vital research and provided indispensable knowledge to guide the project; engineers, who have designed and overseen the technological aspects of the mission; and various support staff, including medical professionals, logistics specialists, and administrative personnel, who have ensured the smooth operation of the project amidst the global chaos.

Recognizing their invaluable contribution to the project's success, the committee endeavors to ensure their safety and survival, acknowledging that their skills and expertise will be crucial in establishing a new civilization in the aftermath of the exodus. Their inclusion in the exodus is not only a reward for their dedication and hard work but also a strategic decision to preserve vital knowledge and skills for the future.

With the installation of the colossal fusion engines marking the final touch, the construction of the five arkships has now reached its successful completion, not a moment too soon. These monumental vessels, each a testament to human ingenuity and resilience, stand ready to embark on their crucial mission, built just in the nick of time amidst the escalating global chaos. These arkships have been meticulously prepared and filled with a diverse range of cargo to ensure humanity's survival in the new world. This includes critical supplies such as materials for constructing habitats and spare parts necessary for the maintenance and repair of the ships. To sustain life, a considerable amount of food and seeds have also been packed, ready to provide nourishment and initiate agriculture in the new environment. Perhaps the most extraordinary cargo, however, is a comprehensive DNA library, it includes 60samples of every species of flora and fauna found on the Human homeworld. This ambitious endeavor aims to preserve Earth's biological diversity, with the hope that one day, these species may be resurrected and thrive once again in the new world.

With an astonishing number of over 110,000 people on each vessel, ready to be placed in cryostasis pods, the arkships are the last beacon of hope for humanity. These individuals, selected from diverse backgrounds and professions, are ready to leave their past lives behind and embark on this unprecedented journey. The cryostasis pods, advanced technology developed specifically for this mission, will place them in a state of suspended animation. This will allow them to survive the lengthy voyage to their new home. The journey is expected to last at the very least several decades, during which the arkships will be primarily managed by an advanced AI system. This system is programmed to handle any emergencies, maintain the life support systems, and ensure the overall welfare of the sleeping passengers. It will also facilitate the revival process when the arkships finally reach their destination.

As Earth's final hours draw near, the last measures are being meticulously taken to ensure the success of humanity's greatest exodus. The committee, responsible for orchestrating this monumental endeavor, is holding a concluding meeting. Since the establishment of the United Nations Committee of Human Relocation, it has been a requirement that none of the current or former political leaders be selected during the selection process to avoid any bias towards any group or nation.

This stringent protocol was designed to ensure the fairness and impartiality of the selection process. The Committee recognized that the inclusion of political figures could potentially introduce bias, favouritism, or conflicts of interest that might compromise the integrity and objectivity of the exodus project. Therefore, by excluding current and former political leaders, the Committee sought to maintain the credibility of the selection process and uphold the principle of equal opportunity for all prospective candidates, regardless of their background or affiliation. This approach has been instrumental in fostering trust and acceptance of the selection process among the global population, even in these desperate and tumultuous times.

Though there are indeed a small number of candidates who have previously been involved in political realms, the final decision regarding the establishment of their fresh governing system will, in the end, be in the hands of the exodites. It is they who will have the power and the duty to shape their new political landscape, deciding upon the structures and principles that will guide their society in this new chapter of their existence. Thus, the topic of the final meeting is whether the committee members have earned the right to board the arkships.

The argument in favor of the committee members joining the exodus is compelling. Their intimate involvement in the project has equipped them with a deep understanding of the mission, its goals, its challenges, and its potential solutions. They have spent countless hours strategizing, planning, and executing the mission, gaining a level of expertise that few others possess. In the unfamiliar and potentially hostile environment of the new world, their knowledge could prove invaluable. They could guide the first steps of the exodus, harnessing their experience to navigate unforeseen obstacles and shape the new civilization in its critical early stages. Their presence on the arkships could provide a sense of continuity and stability, crucial elements during a time of monumental change and uncertainty.

Yet, the counter-argument is equally persuasive. The exodus project has always been underpinned by a commitment to fairness and equality. Every decision, every selection, has been painstakingly made to ensure that no individual, group, or nation is favored over another. The decision to allow the committee members to join the exodus could be seen as a violation of this principle. It could be perceived as privilege, as an unfair advantage given to those who have been in positions of power. Such a decision could sow seeds of discontent and mistrust among the exodites, undermining the unity and cooperation essential for the survival and success of the new civilization.

Furthermore, the committee members' departure could potentially create a power vacuum back on Earth, disrupting the final stages of the mission and causing further chaos and conflict in an already desperate situation. Their presence and leadership could be crucial in ensuring the smooth execution of the remaining tasks and in maintaining order and morale among those left behind.

This decision is complex and fraught with implications, both immediate and long-term. It requires careful deliberation, an in-depth understanding of the potential consequences, and a steadfast commitment to the principles that have guided the project from its inception. The committee members must weigh their personal desires and the potential benefits of their presence in the new world against the potential risks and the ethical implications of their decision. This final meeting symbolizes not just the end of a monumental project, but also a test of the principles and values that have defined humanity's greatest exodus.

In the midst of all this, three distinct proposals have been introduced for space flights, each aiming to leave the confines of our solar system. The three distinct proposals for space flights all share a common strategy for their journey. They plan to utilize the gravitational forces of the planets, a technique often referred to as a 'gravitational slingshot'. This strategy involves using the powerful gravitational pull of planets to accelerate and alter the trajectory of the spacecraft, propelling them onward on their journey beyond our solar system.

Additionally, these proposals include the strategic decision to make a final flyby to the last vestiges of human civilization on Luna, Mars, and Titan. These colonies, standing as the remaining outposts of humanity in our solar system, are valuable waypoints for the arks. However, there is a significant challenge that the arks will face in executing this plan. Due to the current alignment of the planets in our solar system, it becomes impossible for the arks to visit all three colonies.

As such, a choice has to be made. The arks can only stop at one of these colonies - Luna, Mars, or Titan. This limitation is a result of the planets' positioning and the inherent constraints of space travel. This presents a difficult decision, as each colony undoubtedly holds its own unique value and significance in this monumental mission of human survival.

[] Luna - Mining outpost
[] Mars - Colonial outpost
[] Titan - Research outpost

Meanwhile, eight interstellar arks owned by different private corporations have united to form a private fleet. This private fleet, an unexpected alliance forged amidst the chaos, represents a different aspect of humanity's desperate struggle for survival. Each ark, meticulously crafted and prepared, is a testament to the unique capabilities of the respective corporations. They have pooled their resources, expertise, and technology to form an impressive coalition, standing as a stark contrast to the public efforts led by the United Nations.

The creation of this private fleet has brought a new dynamic to the ongoing exodus preparations. While the United Nations continues to prioritize fairness and impartiality in their selection process, the private corporations have their own criteria. The selection of passengers for these arks is based on a myriad of factors, including the individuals' skills, their contribution to the corporations, and their potential role in the new world.

As these private arks prepare for their journey, they add another layer of complexity to the already tangled web of humanity's final days on Earth. The countdown to exodus continues, with each moment bringing new challenges and decisions. The fate of mankind hangs in the balance, held by the combined efforts of public initiatives and private endeavours. Only time will tell who will survive the journey to the new world and what kind of civilization they will build upon their arrival.

Learning towards staying overall, but only having a limited number of them would grant the bonuses without overly compromising the selection process.
[X] Mars - Colonial outpost
Most likely to have something useful for setting up the extrasolar colonies,

[X] Luna - Mining outpost

I think we're good on shelter with the ship and what we've packed. If we can find something to jumpstart industry it would be very beneficial.

Is the plague a solar system-wide event? Because I would imagine it would be easier to build space colonies in other locations around the solar system, even as a stop-gap measure, than to fly to an entirely different solar system.

Quest Minor Retcon
Following a period of thoughtful deliberation, the decision was ultimately reached to not proceed with introducing the Feywild Plague as a major cataclysmic event. This decision was not taken lightly, and after weighing up all the potential implications and flaws.

However, it has been replaced by an equally, or perhaps even more, ominous scenario: the gray goo. The gray goo, a concept derived from nanotechnology, is an apocalyptic outcome where self-replicating nanobots consume all matter on Earth while building more of themselves—a scenario that poses a new level of threat to our world.

The new danger is called "The Greywild". Although the name may not be very creative, it accurately represents the idea. Looking back, the simplicity of the name gives it a sense of seriousness, suitable for the threat it poses.

Thus, minor adjustments have been made to the previous narratives, but not significantly so. That is all I have for fellow exodites!

Honestly, I went in with the assumption that whatever disaster hit Earth was an excuse to go found the first interstellar colony, not a solid reason. This is also why I voted for Theia, as the destruction of two planets would probably usher in a repeat of the Late Heavy Bombardment. On top of, you know, destroying Earth.

Still time to post your votes until Saturday! Meanwhile exodites while I do encourage submitting omakes from the prompts, they're always optional but you will miss out potential bonuses and ways to screw over your soon to be rival fleet! So far I am glad with the level participation l!

Turn 4 [Mars]
UN Fleet
- Turn 4: Roll with advantage on Complication
Among the many committee members, the five youngest were ultimately chosen for each of the arkships. These selected members were then tasked with the grave responsibility of ensuring the survival and continuity of the human species. They underwent rigorous training and preparation, acquiring essential skills and knowledge for their monumental voyage. The arkships, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and resources, were humanity's glimmers of hope against the looming threat of extinction. As the last vestiges of mankind ascended, the final rocket ships broke free from Earth's gravitational pull. The 5 arkship engines ignited with a roar that echoed the collective heartbeat of humanity, a powerful testament to their tenacity in the face of the unknown.

As the arkships embarked on their momentous journey to the stars, the sight captured from their rear portals was profoundly heartbreaking. The Earth, once a bustling beacon of life in the vast cosmos, had been reduced to a desolate wasteland, entirely barren of any life on its surface. The once teeming seas, home to a myriad of aquatic life, had evaporated into nothingness, leaving behind a parched planet devoid of its life-giving oceans. The continents, once verdant and vibrant, had transformed into an unrecognizable scene. Their lush greenery and abundant wildlife had vanished, replaced by a metallic sheen that covered every inch of the land. The entire planet had been enveloped in a shroud of gray goo of the Greywild, an eerie testament to the cataclysm that had befallen it. The sight was a stark reminder of the world they had once known and loved. It was a painful realization of the ultimate failure to protect their world from utter cataclysm. As they journeyed further into the unknown, the haunting image of their decimated Earth served as a solemn vow to protect and cherish their new home, wherever in the cosmos that may be.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, there exists an eerie quietude. A staggering reality has set in, where nothing of the world as we once knew it remains on the surface, not even the faintest whisper of the wind, nor the subtle rustle of leaves in a non-existent breeze. All forms of life, from the smallest microorganism to the largest beast, have been silenced, their existence erased from the annals of Earth's history. The Earth, once a vibrant home teeming with life and echoing with the symphony of existence, now stands as a silent, haunting monument to a forgotten past.

The once vivid palette of the planet, painted with the greens of the forests, the blues of the oceans, and the myriad colors of life, has been replaced by the monochrome tones of desolation. The sight of this global tomb is a stark and painful reminder of what was lost, of a paradise that once was but is no more. The silence is deafening, the stillness unsettling. There is an unsettling tranquility, a peace that is not soothing but chilling, a silence not of serenity but of absence.

The once bustling cities, once filled with the noise of progress, stand empty and silent, their skyscrapers reaching out to the sky like skeletal fingers, a grim testament to mankind's ambition. The vast natural landscapes, once echoing with the songs of birds and the rustle of life, are now silent, their echoes lost in time. The rivers that once flowed with life-giving water are now dry, their beds cracked and barren. The forests that once teemed with a myriad of life have been reduced to a desolate wasteland, their life-giving essence leeched away.

The Earth, once a beacon of life in the vast cosmos, has been reduced to a lifeless sphere, floating aimlessly in the void of space. The world as we once knew it is no more. Nothing living remains. All that is left is the Greywild. While the surface of the world has tragically succumbed to the relentless and ever-consuming gray goo, a testament to the catastrophic event that has befallen it, a glimmer of hope still exists. The few humans who have managed to survive this devastating calamity have, fortunately, found a sanctuary within the relative safety of a handful of bunkers. These bunkers, scattered sparingly across the now desolate landscape, have become their last refuge in a world that has been lost to the destructive power of the Greywild. The hypothesis is that without any form of biomass, the gray goo would eventually initiate a process of self-consumption. Without any organic matter to feed on, it would cannibalize itself, leading to a slow, inevitable decline. If and when the Greywild ceases to exist, only time will tell whether humanity will reemerge to reclaim their world or if the underground bunkers will become their final resting place.

Prior to the catastrophic Greywild outbreak and mankind's final exodus from Earth, humans had successfully ventured beyond their home planet, establishing thriving colonies on Luna, Mars, and Titan. While a few of them returned back to Earth during the initial chaos, most remained in their outposts. A year before the arkships took their momentous leap from Earth, the research outpost on Titan, one of humanity's most distant colonies, abruptly and inexplicably went silent. The outpost, once a beacon of human innovation and exploration, ceased all communications. Their last transmission, seeping through the vast expanse of space, arrived garbled and indecipherable, adding an ominous layer to an already troubling situation. The fate of those stationed on Titan, one of humanity's most distant colonies, continues to remain shrouded in mystery.

In stark contrast, the events that transpired on Luna, another human outpost, are painfully clear. Luna, which once boasted a thriving mining operation, suffered a devastating turn of events. System failures, catastrophic in their scope and impact, swept across the base like a deadly wave. The complex network of machinery and life-support systems that had once kept the outpost running like a well-oiled machine, collapsed. The result was a disaster of epic proportions, directly leading to the tragic loss of 150 personnel stationed at the Lunar base. These individuals, once pioneers in humanity's quest for resources beyond Earth, met a grim fate in the unforgiving conditions of alien terrain.

However, all hope is not lost as the over 1000 settlers of Mars continue to stand strong. The settlers on Mars, despite the looming shadow of Earth's fate, have managed to maintain a semblance of normalcy. They continue to mine the Martian soil for resources, conduct scientific research, and even take part in planned terraforming projects. Their resilience in the face of adversity serves as a beacon of hope for the survivors aboard the arkships.

In a turn of events that shocked some (and perhaps left others unsurprised), the corporate fleet, which had boldly embarked on their journey ahead of the United Nations' schedule, ran into a significant snag. One of the engines of the Buy n Large vessel, fondly christened the Axiom, was on the brink of a catastrophic failure. A potential catastrophe was narrowly avoided thanks to the prompt and skilled actions of engineers from the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC). This team of highly trained individuals swiftly sprang into action to deal with the high-stakes situation. Their rapid response, coupled with their expertise in problem-solving, was instrumental in stopping the disaster from unfolding. The engineers, now on high alert, initiated a thorough check of each engine. They carefully studied each detail of the complex designs, searching for any overlooked flaws. Their mission was not just to spot these errors, but to rectify them, thereby strengthening the fleet and preventing similar occurrences in the future.

However, this close call led to an immediate standstill across all ships. It was critical to determine whether this defect was a shared design mistake that could potentially influence the other engines, considering they were all constructed from the same design blueprint. This interruption in their voyage was more than just a postponement; it resulted in the UN fleet advancing ahead of them in their departure from the solar system.

As the arkships depart from Earth's orbit and venture into deep space, calculations are made to exit the solar system by slingshotting around several celestial bodies. The arkships, carrying the remnants of humanity, use the gravitational forces of these celestial entities as a means to accelerate their journey. The navigational systems on board each ship, equipped with advanced algorithms and precise star maps, calculate the optimal trajectories for this grand escape.

The first celestial body on their route is the planet of Mars. As the arkships drew closer, the settlers on Mars were able to observe the grand spectacle of humanity's last hope for survival. The sight of the arkships in the Martian sky served as a poignant reminder of their shared plight - a testament to humanity's resolve in the face of despair. Regrettably, the initial plans that were conceived to relocate the settlers who have made Mars their home, or even to consider the possibility of establishing a new home for them on the red planet, have hit a snag. The main issue is that the infrastructure and resources that they have brought along with them are primarily designed for a planet with conditions similar to Earth. This means that they are not completely adaptable to the Martian environment.

In addition to this, the settlers themselves have shown a strong sense of attachment to Mars. They have respectfully declined the offer to leave the planet. Their decision is based on the fact that they are currently thriving on their own on Mars, demonstrating a remarkable level of self-sufficiency and resilience. Moreover, they have put forth a compelling argument to support their decision to stay on Mars. They argue that it would be in the best interest of the human race as a whole not to have all humans concentrated in one place. This, in their view, would create a more balanced distribution of the human population across the solar system and potentially beyond. Such a distribution could provide a form of insurance against any extinction events that might occur on humanity.

During the interaction with the settlers, there were two significant developments. The first was the settlers' decision to relinquish the critical components of their rocket ships. These parts, originally designed for interstellar travel, are no longer needed by the settlers. Given their current status, the settlers have no immediate plans or necessity to return to Earth, nor do they have any strong urge to further venture into the realms of space. Consequently, the once-essential rocket ship components have become redundant for their needs, providing the UN with additional spare parts for their interstellar voyage. There was a further concern regarding five settlers from Mars expressing a keen interest to be a part of the UN exodus fleet. Despite the collective decision of the Martian colony to stay put, these individuals felt a strong pull to join the rest of humanity on the arkships. Their reasons ranged from wanting a fresh start to desiring to be part of this historic journey. Yet, their inclusion posed several logistical and ethical dilemmas.

Initially, the arkship was designed without the capacity for extra passengers. Every detail of the arkships was carefully designed to optimize space and ensure the sustenance and survival of the current passengers. Adding the five settlers would require a redistribution of resources that could potentially jeopardize the survival and safety of the existing passengers. Furthermore, there is a matter of equitable treatment. Considering the dire conditions on Earth that necessitated the creation of the arkships, many individuals aspired to be a part of the fleet. Granting the Martian settlers a place might be viewed as unjust by those who were not afforded this opportunity.

Lastly, these five settlers have affiliations with Abstergo Industries, a fact that could have far-reaching consequences. They've publicly declared they have no plans to join their current employer's fleet. However, there's an element of uncertainty in their assertion. Given the haste of their decision to leave Mars and board the arkships, it's tough to completely verify the truth of their statements. They could be genuinely driven by aspirations for a fresh start or the desire to be part of this momentous journey. Alternatively, they might be undercover agents deployed by Abstergo Industries for undisclosed reasons. These factors contribute to the complexity and intrigue of the situation and demand a cautious review of their application. It's possible that their abrupt request to join the UN could be linked to the surprising appearance of the Corpo fleet in the orbit of Mars.

There might be significant advantages to welcoming the five Martian settlers onto the arkship fleet, which could mitigate the risks posed by their abrupt request. Their distinctive viewpoint, derived from surviving and flourishing on a foreign planet, could be of immense value in finding a new home. Their knowledge and experiences could be instrumental in navigating unexpected difficulties that might surface during their interstellar journey and eventual habitation of an alien planet. Their addition also presents a chance to cultivate solidarity among the surviving human population. It shows the arkship leadership's dedication to humanity's survival and flourishing, irrespective of their geographic origins or affiliations. It moreover conveys a strong message to the remaining Martian settlers and the corporate fleet that the UN arkship is genuinely a mission for the safeguarding of all humankind, not merely a chosen few.

Despite these challenges, the request of the five settlers sparked an important discussion among the arkship leadership.

[ ] Accept them
[ ] Decline them

In Mars's orbit, the Martian settlers have received permission to access the abandoned outpost on the moon Deimos. However, they couldn't access the outpost on Phobos, as it formerly belonged to the UAC and several shuttles from the Corpo fleet were already en route. Therefore, a team of scientists, engineers, and security personnel began to explore the abandoned research outpost in Deimos.

The exploration of the abandoned outpost brings a sense of excitement mixed with trepidation. The team works diligently, navigating through the disused and eerily silent corridors. As they delve deeper into the outpost, they uncover remnants of former research projects, now abandoned and gathering dust. Each finding, though shrouded in mystery, offers a glimpse into the outpost's past and the advanced scientific work that was once conducted there.

As the team delves deeper, they encounter an unexpected hindrance; a door that resolutely denies them entry. This door, unlike the others they've come across, stays locked and unresponsive despite their numerous attempts to force it open. It becomes clear that physical force won't solve this problem. The only clue to opening the door is a screen panel positioned next to it. This advanced panel, still showing signs of activity, instantly projects the logo of Abstergo Industries. After the logo fades, the panel requests a bio-scan. Evidently, the door is programmed to open only for recognized individuals, adding a new level of security and mystery to the situation.

Therefore, they are presented with a few potential courses of action, one of which could be to attempt to breach the system's security, essentially hacking into it. This could enable them to bypass the biometric security measures and gain access to the locked area. However, there exists the possibility that the system's security measures could detect the hacking attempt and respond by immediately activating an auto-lock mechanism, thereby completely barring access.

Another possible tactic that could be employed is the utilization of explosive devices to breach the door. This particular approach, while it's highly probable to provide immediate access, does come with a set of risks. One such risk is the potential damage to whatever objects or individuals might be stationed directly behind the door. The force and impact from the explosion could cause significant harm.

Alternatively, they could attempt to communicate with Abstergo Industries, the corporation that originally established the outpost. While this option guarantees immediate access,, this approach also carries the potential risk of putting the UN in a position where they might owe a favor to the Corpo fleet. This could lead to unforeseen obligations and complications down the line, and should be considered carefully.

Lastly, they could seek help from the five settlers who, due to their affiliation with Abstergo Industries, might be able to bypass the door's security measures. However, this would mean trusting them and effectively granting them passage with the UN fleet.

Each option carries its own risks and rewards, requiring careful consideration before deciding the best course of action.
