Essentially, a spirit-computer who's job is to maintain the Order-Conferring Trading Pattern, the pattern of commerce that helps stabilize Creation against the Wyld (Chaos), by keeping all the parts connected to each other.gideon020 said:
You could try to use Hollow Mind Possession on it, but good luck. It's third only to the Sword of Creation and the Order Conferring Trading Pattern in complexity, geomantically. It's basically a Culture Mind, built by Solars.Carrnage said:
Nah. That wouldn't be fun at all. This is fun.Arkeus said:Oh, THANK YOU.
Damn, i was worried it would simply go the usual fanfic way of "railroad into canon" where she meets the undersiders/lung and is taken by them, and then proceed to have similar 'missions' than in canon.
Now to hoping that she becomes a nice, interesting kind of mercenary/gang-leader/ Mother/windrunner
It's also built by Solars to probably be resistant to SWLIHN.Carrnage said:So it's Rank N/A? or rank 5? one is impossible (without a good narrative reason) the other just supremely difficult.
They might meet.Undead-Spaceman said:Hmm, New York huh? Didn't the Travelers stay in New York for a while?
Of course, that is conditional on them knowing she is in NYC at the moment.acb said:"Great idea to chase her out of the Bay, guys, because instead of some backwater experiencing precog problems, you want those problems to start moving to major metropolises with more moving parts."
No worries on the latter. Sandy was educational on that.Endymion said:So she's headed to New York City, fun thing is most of the NYC Metro area is considered urban, no chance of the Imperfection of the Demon City kicking in. The entire place is surrounded by water (Kimbery's good), and considering this is Worm!Verse desolation shouldn't be hard to find.
Though if Leviathan ends up attacking New York, well don't pull a Hollywood. Look at a map; tsunamis would break on Staten Island and Brooklyn.
What?illhousen said:Huh, at first I thought you were referring to AM (Allied Mastercomputer, Adaptive Manipulator,.. Aggressive Menace) from "I Have No Mouth and I Must Sceam". As you may imagine, not a very nice guy. Malfeas would go along with him, though. They both have the great capacity to hate... And AM is basically a geographic feature rivaling the Demon City.
She's dead,Rask said:So Sophia is really dead. I wasn't expecting that. Taylor is on the run, no surprise there. The real question is what she'll decide to do now.
Also, does her face remain recognisable in shintai form?
It would. If Taylor learned it. Which is very, very, very, unlikelyCarrnage said:
Ah, ok. So that's where that came from.ScreenXSurfer said:AM.
The computer filled with the most hatred in all of fiction.
It oddly fit with "hatred powers" so those of us who didn't know who I AM (therefor I think?) is thought you were talking about AM.
Should've helped Taylor move her couch, Contessa. Especially when you swore you would.Jaertin said:I can't help but wonder what would happen if Contessa broke an oath that Taylor had witnessed.
If I understand correctly, part of her power is to do things perfectly, while the consequences of oath breaking is to fail horribly at the worst possible moment.
Would the oath-curse overpower her ability, or would she be able to mitigate things somewhat?
I'm hoping for the former, because the image of Contessa going in to do her usual effortless win, only to trip over her own feet, is hilarious. Seriously, can you imagine her face.
I don't know about Cecelyne but the Kimbery charm All Things Betray would seem appropriate if things continue as they are. When your a wanted criminal, betrayal is always around the corner, although I have trouble deciding which IBT she'd get first.Endymion said:I wonder about what Cecelyne Charms Taylor might pick up? Parahumans Online seems like a great place to pick up a ready made cult.
That would actually be very interesting. Could Taylor help Noelle, I wonder? Do infernals have something to transfer mutations from one person to the other? If so, this might help (transfer the control part of her power to Noelle from that guy who has it). If no, she still might revert Noelle to a more normal form, maybe. Hell, from what I read of Bu Rage Recast, there's an additional charm that allows Taylor to bestow mutations from her arsenal to those who swear fealty to her. This may actually be very useful here - stone skin / body may just prevent Noelle's powers from working, turning her life to the better (and that's saying a lot, when being stuck in the form made out of black obsidian is an improvement of your situation / condition).Undead-Spaceman said:Hmm, New York huh? That actually works. No, seriously - travel to some third world hell-hole, oust the dictator and his army, establish a safe haven.illhousen said:Taylor: I want to be a hero!
Brospider: Go conquer some city, that always works.
Taylor: That's... strangely appealing but not very heroic behavior.
Brospider: Oh, please, kill enough people and the survivors will call you hero, queen, goddess or whatever else you desire.
Worm Spoiler: Actually, one of the biggest, baddest, strongest cape ever already did this, though i wouldn't count her territory as 'safe haven'Yog said:That actually works. No, seriously - travel to some third world hell-hole, oust the dictator and his army, establish a safe haven.
Yeah, I know. But Taylor could actually do better. I am speaking aboutArkeus said:Worm Spoiler: Actually, one of the biggest, baddest, strongest cape ever already did this, though i wouldn't count her territory as 'safe haven'
Assume she takes over a (small) country. A country with a military force. A military force that swears fealty to her as a supreme ruler. Now she has an army of relatively powerful parahumans at her command. If the character knows the Charm Fealty-Acknowledging Audience (see The Manual of Exalted Power—The Infernals, p. 116), then she may pay a surcharge of +5m when invoking that Charm to gift those who swear fealty to her with up to eight points of mutations she is capable of manifesting with By Rage Recast. This gift is a permanent Desecration.
Noelle is that way because she drank only half the formula. Another guy drank the second half, presumably getting the control part of her power.illhousen said:Also, transferring "control part" from the other guy wouldn't work. Noelle is the way she is because she has some mental disorder and was not meant to have powers in the first place. At best it would cause second trigger which may make everything even worse.
She doesn't have this charm, and we have been told that she won't take any more Malfeas charm for a good long while. There are however some semi-similar charms from Kimbery themed around filial duty, though they probably won't be the type Taylor take (as she will also focus on Adorjan, who isn't for stifling people's freedom).Yog said:Yeah, I know. If I was to guess, the combined power would be to "turn into copy of any cape you touch" or something along those lines.illhousen said:Mental disorder was a part of it. There is a reason why Cauldron actually bothers to check their clients' mental health. Spoiled reason is also valid, though I'm not sure it's "control part". The guy in question didn't have any control either. I'm actually unsure what Cauldron formula even is, but I kinda doubt it's a liquefied passenger. Probably something that causes people to connect with the existing passenger collected by Cauldron and guides the trigger analogue. Also remember that more than one person can be connected to a specific passenger at the same time as evidenced by Slaughterhouse 9000. What would happen if Noelle suddenly gained whats-his-name's mutation... well, your guess is as good as mine.
P.S. Spoilers. They burn ussss.
She cut ties to him in order to protect him though. Anyway, given the last 3 updates i think Taylor will first get Adorjan charms, maybe she is going to go Freedom Lets Go (the scene where she is cutting ties) and now she needs 'some way to live/do with not much money' AND she just ran from her home, which screams all kind of Adorjan things like Running To Forever and possibly Unimpeded Perfection of Exertion. Also, she might go the Tragic Love amusement route if she does want to make new friends.Starfield said:So, which entry path to Kimbery charms will Taylor take? Intolerable Burning Truths or Mother Sea Mastery?
To me it seems more likely that she would pick IBT, but which truths? Mother Before Daughter? Trust is Naive? Existence is Agony? Never Forgive? Hate Springs Eternal? My guess would be either Hate Springs Eternal or Never Forgive. Existence is Agony seems like going down the dark side too fast, and the first two, well, she cut off ties to Danny, so they seems like an u-turn at this point.
That doesn't really fit Freedom Lets Go, though. She's running away specifically because she cares and wants to protect Danny, not because she wants to. If she stopped caring about that, chances are that she'd turn around and start trying to get revenge on the Brockton Bay PRT for dicking her around and spoiling her dreams.Arkeus said:She cut ties to him in order to protect him though. Yeah, i could see this going either to IBT (Mother Before Daughter) or Freedom Lets Go, depending on how Logic wants to take things.Screwball said:That doesn't really fit Freedom Lets Go, though. She's running away specifically because she cares and wants to protect Danny, not because she wants to.
Mother Before Daughter actually fits really well IMO.Arkeus said:Yeah, i could see this going either to IBT (Mother Before Daughter) or Freedom Lets Go, depending on how Logic wants to take things.
That's why i responded thus to the IBT parts in the same post
How does that fit well? Because I don't see it. Also what will it do to her?Screwball said:
Well, Freedom Lets Go essentially makes it really easy for the Infernal to go 'I don't care about X anymore,' which obviously isn't a good fit with 'running away from everything you love to protect it'. If you don't love it anymore, you have no reason to run away.Harish said:How does that fit well? Because I don't see it. Also what will it do to her?
