Well, if we are going active again, let me share a few things:
Game of Shadows By: Adrian King1
The latest, Gamer Naruto SI. It's 300k words!
The Bloody Oracle of Kiri By: CannibalisticApple
Another SI in naruto, but this one is a little more OC than the usual SI, plus it takes place in Kiri. Naruto SI in place different than Konoha is alwayse something to check out. Being little over 170k is another positive.
Ninja Ninja Tactics By: Viva01
Naruto quest with OC in the Kakashi generation. There are a few crossover elements, but the kind that makes you wonder "why this isn't cannon?" It over on the "questionablequesting", due to some scenes but they don't take a big part. Finaly, it's finished quest with "threadmarks, Word Count: 3.7m"
State of the Meta By: Yung Warrior
and
Stacking The Deck! By: 0 Jordinio 0
Are both YU-GI-OH! Gx, self inserts. The first include "new" cards like XYZ, LINK and the other. The second is more in term with cannon, in how beside a few original cards, the new cards are only effect monstres, so the extra deck things are in it.
One Card Short of a Full Deck By: Stewart92
SI in DC commic, with power based on yu-gi-oh cards. Recent chapters show possibility that it takes place on Earth-16. Posted on, spacebattles.

Hoo boy. Just five is a hard ask.

Two Roads Diverged: Kenshin and Tomoe don't go to Otsu. They go to Kenshin's former shishou instead. (In which Kenshin is forced to reevaluate his life choices, Tomoe comes to terms with hers, and Hiko must deal with not only his idiot apprentice, but his enigmatic wife. Who is most definitely not hiding anything.) [This was a 'What If?' scenario for Rurouni Kenshin I didn't know I wanted; I only discovered it last year, but it's been an absolute delight the entire time, not just for its focus on Kenshin and Tomoe, but also on his shisou, Seijuro Hiko. Still in progress, but the author updates regularly.]

Service with a Smile: When Jaune's forged transcripts were rebuffed, his only option was to return home in disgrace or forge a new life in Vale. Opening a diner was an impetuous decision, being good at it a stroke of luck. Becoming the favourite haunt for students, teachers and criminals alike…? That was neither, but it sure did keep things interesting. Wasn't the civilian life supposed to be easier? [Coeur's RWBY fics have already been mentioned on this thread, but this is one that I can always go back and reread without a second thought. The sheer amount of Slice of Life content is simply marvelous.]

The Line: When a young Ino tries to use the Shintenshin for the first time on Naruto, something goes wrong and the two find themselves temporarily stuck in the other's body. A series of moments depicting the evolution of their relationship, from acquaintances to friends to something more, all by crossing that metaphorical line created when a boy and a girl forge a bond. Naruto/Ino [A very unusual pairing, and rather short at five chapters and ~47,000 words; however, the character dynamics are so good that I think the relative pithiness helps rather than hurts the story.]

Deja Vu no Jutsu: Take one dead, thirty year old career soldier, stick in the body of a child during the Second Great Shinobi War. Add a mini-Namikaze Minato, ninjas, chakra, tailed beasts, and shake well. Is it any wonder she thought she was insane? Second/Third Great Ninja War era SI AU. [Yeah, there's a lot of self-insert OC Naruto fics. But given that this one actually takes place during the generation of the main cast's parents, there's enough room to monkey around with the Stations of Canon; it's been a while since I last read it, but I remember this one being the most consistently good of the self-inserts I've read...including 'Dreaming of Sunshine', which is somewhat hurt by the fact it hasn't been updated in years, whereas Deja Vu is technically complete.]

Sons of the Desert: Scar and Miles face the monumental task of rebuilding a land and a culture. Miles gets in touch with his roots and Scar's past isn't as erased as he thought it was. Rated T for language and thematic elements. Lots of OCs. All updated! [How exactly would the restoration of Ishval go in the aftermath of the events of FMA: Brotherhood? This story investigates that, and you can tell the author has a lot of experience with how a society living near a desert biome would actually function and thrive. The story has continuations after this one, but as a set-up and character exploration of Scar and Miles and Ishvallan society in particular...yeah. This one's a keeper.]

Crossovers between different dimensions/worlds/universes are my favorite types of fanfics because the best ones have this pervasive feeling of a "meeting of civilizations". It's even better when the author shows respect to both universes, even when there's a difference in scale/power levels.

Below are my favorite crossovers that have these traits.

Thaumaturgic Awakening by Xylix (FSN/Worm): In this fanfic, we see the meeting of cape and magus culture through a third party viewpoint, Taylor, who's a newbie to both, being a part of Earth Bet civilian culture.

For Those We Cherish by The Crimson Lord (WH40K/RWBY): What I really love about this fic is the respect shown to the RWBYverse despite how vastly bigger in scale the WH40k setting is in comparison.

Partners in Crime by salts (Persona 3/MHA): Despite how similar the two settings are (I mean MHA technically is set in the future, but the culture is just basically modern day Japan+superheros), Minato really feels like an alien in this story. I'm surprised by how little attention this story gets in comparison to the other two, but I think the nerfing of Minato at the beginning throws people off. To be honest, this is the only story that nerfs a side for the sake of plot that I actually enjoy, so I think more people should try it out. Even a nerfed Minato is still op.

I have one or two more stories to recommend, but I always get nervous when I'm writing a post that seems to be long, so I'll leave it at that.

Wait. There's a thread where I can rec my favs?! Yes! Boo yah! Then here I go!

Actually wait.

Hoo boy. Just five is a hard ask.

Actually I think the OP changed it to any number.

Please try to limit it to no more than five at most. You know what? Add as many as you want. To start it off mine would be

Yeah here.

Anyways, NOW here I go!

Just note that this isn't all the ones I wanna show off. Just the ones I remember off the top of my head and quick glances at my favs. :V

(well besides fics like the 2nd try, advice & trust and mobile fighter evangelion but i wanna show my more "obscure" favorites first)

Also SPOILERS abound.

Wings of Rebellion [Persona 5]
Summary: Akechi has had enough. So, he... tries to be a better person. Can he mislead the Conspiracy, and prevent the Phantom Thieves from falling into the trap? He isn't sure, but this is his last chance to do something right for once, and he has no intention of wasting it. His mind is set. This is his resolve. Crow's wings of rebellion.
Status: Ongoing
Chapters: 35
Comment: My favorite Persona 5 fic EVER. And basically my reason for my OTP, Akechi/Fem!Akira. An AU that's a sequel to a shorter fic she's done, Unfiltered, where Akira, a female one, basically genuinely befriends Akechi and he has both a literal and figurative change of heart that leads to Akechi befriending the rest of the Phantom Thieves, the two falling in love with each other, and lots of shenanigans about that while Akechi deals with his past actions and such.
It's also, like, one of the longest fem!Akira fics out there, and I should know. I scoured for pretty much (almost) every one out there and it's still of the best ones imo. So much fluff and laughs on top of seeing Akechi dealing with his guilt and the Thieves trying to save him.
But again I'm biased, so yeah. :V

State of Independence [Fairy Tail]
Summary: Zeref won the war but failed to obtain Fairy Heart. Caught between Acnologia's rampage and the increasing madness of his emperor, the least likely person to ever betray His Majesty finally reaches breaking point.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 14
Comment: One of my favorite, if not THE favorite, Fairy Tail fics. Hopefully the fact that it is one deter you cause I just honestly just like it in general. It involves August after Zeref wins instead during the Alvarez Empire arc but kinda loses too as he doesn't get Fairy Heart. Instead, Fairy Heart sends August back in time to try and fix things and honestly I really like it as it spotlights August, who doesn't get much screentime, as well as has him grow past his biggest "flaw" (and also he gets to meet his parents and they know he exists too so yeah).

Towards Beginnings [Kara no Kyoukai/The Garden of Sinners]
Summary: Shiki, and her pregnancy.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comment: That's it. That's the fic. Okay more seriously, one of the first things I thought by the end of watching the KnK movies was "I NEED TO SEE A FIC THAT SHOWS HER DEALING WITH PREGNANCY" because after all the movies, I just REALLY wanted to see it because I wanna see her reaction, how happy yet disbelieving and all sorts of other thoughts when she found out and going through it. And if I didn't find any, I'd do it myself. Thankfully I did find one and it's waaaay better than anything I would've thought of, so yeah.

Escape My Night [Persona 5]
Summary: Akira has one Goal. To save Goro Akechi.

No matter how Long it would take.

Time-Loop fiction. Includes both male and female Akira
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: First off: WARNING, this fic's first half gets VERY dark, at least for me, to the point that I actually usually don't reread that part. Not because it's bad or poorly written, but simply because I don't wanna get depressed. But first time reading that half is pretty much "essential" as without it the second half wouldn't have happened in the first place and that second half is main part I reread because, well, yeah, I love it. Or in other words: Earn Your Happy Ending to the MAX because MY GOD WAS I HURT DURING THE FIRST HALF AND IT MADE THE SECOND HALF SO SATISFYING. But seriously, if you like Wings of Rebellion, or Akechi/Fem!Akira in general, give this a read. And if it's too dark for you, hey! That's fine! You can try reading the author's other works. They're pretty much the biggest contributer of Akechi/Fem!Akira, if not the biggest, on AO3.

Risen [Persona 3]
Summary: The Messiah was always destined to return.

And so, five years later, she did.
Status: Dead (tho author has mentioned on hoping to one day continue it)
Chapters: 3
Comments: I like how Minako comes back in this fic SO MUCH that this is one of the ways I imagine it happening for any timeline where it happens too. Note that it's one of. Anyways, it's about that, and also Akihiko reacting to the fact that, she's, well back since he's her lover in this fic. Unfortunately, though the author has mentioned wanting to pick the fic back up again, this fic is pretty much dead, but I'd still rec reading because UUUURRRGGHHUU idk i just like rereading it for akihiko and minako's reactions and narration...too bad it's was left on kinda of a cliffhanger. Oh and also Yukari and Mitsuru are together in this fic. Just a heads up.

Two in Harmony [Persona 3/Persona 1]
Summary:
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: ok this was found because had the stupid idea to ship mitsuru and kei from persona 1 because i thought it'd be adorable if the kirijo and nanjo griup were brought together again because of the two being in love. And then I ended up liking that ship and deciding to see if there was anything at all for it. There is! Very few, but this is one of those fics and by far both the longest and my favorite. Mitsuru and Kei clash plenty at first as both being pretty stoic and not letting people in easily, but also because of what they've learned from their respective games, they come to an understanding and try to bridge the gap that was already slowly building from actually liking each other from their interactions.

The Red Fog Incident [Persona 4 Arena Ultimax]
Summary: In the wake of the P-1 Grand Prix, The Shadow Operatives and Investigation Team are each trying to uncover the Malevolent Entity behind it. However, at the edge of the collective unconscious, forces are already at work to destroy all they have fought for. A reimagining of P4 Ultimax.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 17
Comments: As the summary says, this is a reimagining of P4 Arena Ultimax. This is also where another method of the P3 coming back I've seen but I'm not about to spoil what it is. I'll admit I mainly found it because it has Yu/Yukiko as a ship but I do like how P4AU is reimagined, with Margaret, Marie and Elizabeth having a bigger role and the P4 and P3 casts more immediately coming together to help each other.

The Foolish Priestess [Persona 4]
Summary: Thou art I... and I am thou... Thou has established a lovers bond... The bonding of thy souls...shall be your eyes to the truth. We bestow upon thee the sharing of power between thy souls...the ability of the Wild Card...
Summary:
Status: Dead
Chapters: 12
Comments: I don't with you but even if the premise shouldn't be possible, I just ended up really liking the odd idea of Yukiko gaining the power of the wild card after her link with Yu is maxed out romantically.

chewing souls
Summary: "Ah, he's right! We probably should start at the beginning," The boy agrees, mercifully. He lifts one hand up in a semi-apologetic gesture, not breaking his smile, "My name is Ryoji Mochizuki - or Death! But I prefer Ryoji."

The girl rolls her eyes, "Marie - Izanami. Whatever."

Mochizuki and Marie stare expectantly as Maruki gapes open-mouthed at the two lackadaisical teenagers sitting across from him.

"...Wait, are you two...?" Maruki pauses amidst his own conclusion, hardly believing where his train of thought has led him, "...no."
...
Takuto Maruki faces divine retribution in the form of two teenagers. Ryoji Mochizuki and Marie have some words to share with the man who tried to rewrite reality.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: Only found just a little bit ago but the whole thing is funny and I love it because, yeah, Takuto's mess in the 3rd Semester for P5 Royal really would've messed up things more than he realized, with prose having great comedic timing in my eyes. So have Ryoji and Marie give formal complaints to Takuto, featuring the complaints of Philemon and Nyarlathotep, various deities all sorts, and nearly 80,000 shrine gods across Japan. :V

Mother [Persona 5]
Sunmary: What if Maruki had given Akechi his mother back? Would he see through it?

Written from first person perspective. Trigger warning for suicide.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: That's it. That's the fic. Sorry couldn't help but repeat a joke. :V But yeah that's really it. But even with the straightforward premise and brief length, I quite like it for the premise alone. Also appreciate there being more fics revolving around Akechi's mother because I'd like more exploration of that.

A Cunning Spirit [Persona 5]
Summary: Goro Akechi challenges Hifumi Togo to a few shogi matches to test his mettle against a prodigy. While she does accept his challenges, Hifumi notices something a little... strange about his playstyle, and it reveals a lot more about Akechi to her than any TV interview that he's been on.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: AN INTERACTION I NEVER KNEW I WANTED BUT TOTALLY LIKE NOW. Summary basically says everything about the fic and man, I don't know, I just really like seeing a character, one that isn't very prominent in my eyes, getting to know but also not really know Akechi and in such a way that fits Hifumi...I just like it. Go read it.

The Friendly Dragon [Persona 5/Yakuza series]
Sunmary: A young Makoto Niijima gets lost in the streets of Tokyo, separated from her father. Just when it seems like she'll never get home, a very large and stoic man lends a helping hand.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: Or: don't think too hard about the timeline, just enjoy Kiryu taking care of a little Makoto in what's basically a substory for him. It's one of my favorite P5/Yakuza crossover fics that I found.

Share the Weight [Persona 5]
Sunmary: Yuuki Mishima makes a hard decision, one he's wrestled with for a long time — the decision to show his cowardly face and apologize to a still bed-bound Shiho.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: This was found on a silly whim of checking out the Mishima and Shiho ship...and I endrd up liking to shio them because of this fic. Also it's nice for me to see a fic not only covering Mishima, but also about something I hadn't thought of but totally want not: Mishima wanting to apologize to Shiho for what happened, because it makes sense. To me anyway.

Come Morning Light [Fire Emblem Fates/Fire Emblem Awakening]
Sunmary: Xander blinked, suddenly disarmed. This wasn't what he had expected at all. He detected a quality to the woman that he understood viscerally as a prince, a sense of power and dignity which set her apart from common men. She stood before him unflinchingly, resolutely. Her plain armor may have fooled everyone else, but he knew, and he needed to find out more.

Clearing his throat, he let this boom of his voice reverberate through the entire stadium when he asked, "Warrior, what is your name?"

Her smile never wavered. "My name is Marth."

[Lucina retainer AU. Follows post-game Awakening and maybe Revelations.]
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: wait wait wait wait! Don't let the fact that it's FE Fates! Okay never mind, I won't blame you but I quite like this fic. Basically it's just a little "what if" of instead of Xander getting Inigo, or rather Laslow, the fic covers a tournament which leads to the recruitment of Marth...or rather Lucina. Unfortunately there's no full AU of this scenario yet...? i know i'm certainly tempted to write one but it's still good.

Your cowardice made us the monsters we are [Norse Mythology]
Sunmary: A little drabble from the POV of Loki and his children from their banishment/imprisonment until Ragnarök.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: Aka more fuel for my headcanon that Loki and his family wouldn't have wanted to cause Ragnarok if the Aesir and Odin hadn't been assholes. :V More seriously, it's first person accounts of Loki and his children that are basically going "hey? Remember when we used to be close? But then you BETRAYED me? Well I'll get back at you for everything," with plenty of mentions of Loki being an affectionate father and Sigyn being done with his antics half the time, but steadfast loyal the other half, and all the time finding Loki's monster kids cute in between. The author also has other works, in narrative prose, "set" in this interpretation of Norse mythology and I'd totally rec reading them too. Also the other fic I know of about Loki's kids and Sigyn, this time from Sigyn's perspective on everything and how she loves each of them, is gone. So yeah.

The Taming of the Prince [Marvel Cinematic Universe]
Sunmary: Loki was in want of children. But thanks to one of Odin's rules, he is not allowed to have any heirs before his older brother, Thor. Unfortunately, Thor doesn't seem to be in any rush to settle down. So Loki takes it upon himself to find Thor a wife... even if he has to invade a planet to do so.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 11
Comments: Ok this is just stupid fun but I found it funny and hey, Sigyn's here which is why I found it, so there. As the summary says, Loki wants kids but he can't have 'em unless Thor has at least one first. So what does he do? Play matchmaker for him. But when Thor does find someone, in this case Jane, he now has to deal with making her meet Odin's standards to the plots of several MCU films to, of course, Thanos threatening everything. And all the while Sigyn helps him with his schemes and both are absolutely oblivious to the fact they love each other until the end. Overall, just good fun. XD oh and it's supposed to be a "taming of the shrew au"? But from what I've heard of that shakespeare play, this fic isn't anything close to that. I think.

...yeah long list couldn't help it. Especially since uh, I don't know if it's okay to make several posts (not double posting of course. Just waiting for someone else to post before I post) of my favorites list. So I'm basically listing as many as I can. If I can post repeatedly then next time I'll make the list shorter.

i personally don't mind, because i usually just threadmark reccs so they are easier to find, but if need be i can comment between each of your posts if you need me to

Thanks, I'd like that yeah. But not for now, thankfully.

at this point, probably make a new one 😅 i don't know if there is a max amount of words you can send per post

Yes, there is a word limit for posts. It's about 8000-9000. Definitely not 10,000.

I should know. I ran into the limit because of my own fics/chapters. XP

at this point, probably make a new one 😅 i don't know if there is a max amount of words you can send per post

Welp, in that case...let's look at my large backlog of stories and see what's there...

Avatar of Victory: The Cycle of the Avatar has held for thousands of years. Other Cycles can stretch far, far longer. An A:tLA/Mass Effect Cross-Over. [An incredibly ambitious story that runs just shy of 2,000,000(!) words, it is a fantastic blending of the bending/spirit elements with the universe of Mass Effect, delving into how each species differs from the others in terms of their bending talents, spiritual cultures, and how they interact with the Spirit World as well. The particular twists involving the Reapers are quite involved with a long payoff; certain fanon elements from the author's prior Avatar works — particularly Three Families — come into play here in order to flesh out ATLA's Earth a bit more (what with the mention of specific ethnic regions and cultures within the normal quartet of ATLA nations/continents/groups that the show gives_. However, they're elaborated on enough that you can follow along with some basic knowledge of either property. The character development of Avatar Shephard is long, but rewarding...and after being a Dead Fic for several years near the finale, it was finally completed earlier this year. But you'd better sit down for the long haul if you're going to read this.]

Tales of Republic City: Vignettes of Kataang family life in Republic City. [Very self-explanatory; given that this was written right after Season 1 of Korra finished airing, many parts were rendered non-canonical by subsequent seasons, but I think it's a very endearing attempt at explaining how Aang and Katara's life would have unfolded following the founding of Air Temple Island up to the time preceding Korra's birth...and some parts are so faithful to the overall themes of Avatar that, after rereading, come across as more preferable to what we know of the canon backstory. This story has several spinoffs — including a prequel and two, count 'em two, separate stories focusing on Lin and Tenzin — that flesh it out even more. Basically, this could have been canon.]

Comedy of Errors: On the eve of Sokka and Suki's wedding, the gang learns Toph has a crush on the Dragon of the West. Hilarity ensues. Kataang/Maiko/Sukka [Yes, you read that right. All of the characters involved are adults given the passage of time, but there's still a massive age gap between Toph and Iroh...and yet, somehow, the author manages to pull it off without it being creepy. The comedy makes a great vehicle for a pairing that is treated with an appropriate level of seriousness, because the age gap IS something that is addressed with the drama it deserves. A one-shot, but a hefty one at just shy of 24,000 words.]

Walkabout: Davis overhears the others talking about him, and doesn't like what he hears. This is the start of a life-changing journey for him. [The beginning of an alternate take to the second season of Digimon — Digimon Adventure 02 — that diverges from the anime after episode 23. Written during that wild frontier of the Internet known as 'the year 2000', it was — IIRC — a retort against the Davis/Daisuke-bashing that was relatively common in the fandom at the time. Thus begins the Crystal Digimon Saga, which essentially focuses on one of the 02 Digidestined per story: Yolei/Miyako in Rise, Learn, Grow; Cody/Iori in Justice; TK/Takeru in Unheard Voices; and finally, Kari/Hikari in Caring Hearts. An altogether simple but fulfilling saga that maintains the spirit of Digimon as an anime...and the old author's notes are oddly delightful to look at in retrospect, given all of the Geocities links that were referenced.]

President for a Day: When Bulma comes down with the flu, Vegeta takes over Capsule Corp. for the day, much to the horror of executives of a rival company who had hoped to intimidate the heiress into a deal. -One shot- [Yes, it's a very cracky premise. Yet it's treated seriously, drawing on Vegeta's past as a planet broker for the Saiyans and then Freeza...as well as how he's changed due to becoming a family man. It appears that the old line breaks are no longer present due to FFNet's various formatting changes over the years, but it's easy enough to tell when the scenes change; overall, a short but enjoyable read.]

There's no rule against necroing on SV, but there is a rule against complaining about necroing.

It's pretty weird that you ran into a word limit. I've seen quest updates that were 30,000 words.

-sees this; tries again-

What the hell?! Then what was that stupid message I got?! I could've sworn I tried posting a chapter at around 9000 and for some reason it wouldn't let me post. ARRRRGHH. Well it's no big deal, but I'm just confused.

27-Danganronpa
Infinity Route - A pleasant piece of post-DR3/V3 crossover, that provides a sense of closure for Danganronpa characters. Not always a happy ending, mind you. My favorite part is the development of a relationship between Makoto and Junko, as this is one of few fics that keeps the two in their characters. Another thing I like is its interpretation of pregame Shuichi and Tsumugi, avoiding the former's annoying cliche of 'crazy death-obsessed yandere' and giving a rather interesting character to the latter, the self-proclaimed 'plain girl.'

Next rec set! Will it be my last? Maybe. Maybe not. We'll see.

Either way SPOILERS abound because I freely discuss why I like these fics in relation to canon...though not for ALL of them of course.

The Masked Circle [Persona 2 Innocent Sin]
Summary: A what-if scenario if Persona 2: Innocent Sin had less rumors and more heart-stealing.

Or: Persona 2 Phantom Thieves, starring responsible(?) adults Maya and Yukino and their posse of energetic children.

Written for the Justice Reverse Bang 2021!
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: That's it. That's the fic. Yes I'm gonna keep this running gag going. :V But anyways, it's just a short one shot about if the Masked Circle were instead the gang of IS and instead of being a rumor group...they're Phantom Thieves. Really interesting and I like all the stuff they do (with hints to Jun's background and stuff) and more Persona 2 content is always appreciated.

Optimal Play [Persona 3/Persona 4 Arena]
Summary: Ever have two computers play chess against each other?
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: Or: Junpei finds a chessboard and Aigis and Labrys play chess with it. Technically not much but I love the scenario and how it's presented, and it's one of my favorite Aigis & Labrys fics. It's also really funny, though not in a "lol" way, just a more "hey it's funny I never thought of that but I could totally imagine it" way since it's, well, Labrys & Aigis...if that makes any sense. The author's other two fics (at this time...if it ever changes) are also Aigis & Labrys centric so if you want more of them bonding as sisters, go check 'em out. One of those fics is my other fav, just for these lines: "We, Sister, are going to go 'food shopping!'" Labrys blinked. "Sis, we don't eat."

Yutaba Prompt Collection [Persona 5]
Summary: A collection of one shot prompts from Tumblr for the ship Yusuke and Futaba. May contain minor supporting ships here and there.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 13
Comments: Yeah title's straightforward, but all the one shots in said collection are pretty good, from hilarious to heartwarming, and some of my favorite Yutaba content out there.

sunflower [Persona 5]
Summary: Seven scenarios in which we see Ann through the eyes of the Phantom Thieves and Shiho.

For Ann Week 2019.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 7
Comments: That's it. That's the fic. :V More seriously I love how we get to see Ann from the perspective of all her friends (and lover, Joker. XP) and the scenarios for each of them, to Ann showing off being a proper femme fatale to being a big sister and just being a good friend overall, I just love the exploration of the different sides of her and getting to see her interact with each of the Thieves (plus Shiho!) one on one.

The Darkest Nights (are over) [Persona 5]
Summary: After killing Wakaba's Shadow, Akechi was hit with an overwhelming amount of guilt and ran away from Shido and the conspiracy. Unfortunately he doesn't know what to do now and who to turn to for help. Afraid for his life, Akechi decides to live in Mementos. This has been his life for two years until one day he hears an unknown group of people wandering around in Mementos.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: Okay not exactly the "best" thing out there, but I like the concept okay? And it's not terrible by any means. Just saying it's not something I consider "star" material, but I still like it anyway. And I'll always take any fic where Akechi is, at minimum, at least a little bit better off in canon that can easily lead to a whole lot better than canon. :V

I'm Right Here [Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn]
Summary: Mia and Rhys share in the battles of Nox Castle, and the moments afterward.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: That's it. That's the fic. :V Not much else to say about it, other than it's one of the few fics shipping Mia and Rhys. Yes I ship them. Blame gamplay plus their support.

Truths and Curses [Persona 4]
Summary: The True Ending's final battle, seen from Izanagi-No-Okami's perspective. And he has a lot to think about when facing his former wife, Izanami.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: Background Yu/Naoto shipping by the way for anyone who needs to know. It's a fic with an interesting POV as it's Izanagi(-no-okami)'s thought during, and the immediate aftermath, of the final battle as well as a conversation with his "wife". And I'm a sucker of Persona POV fics, which I find rather rare when not looking for them, so that's another plus.

Not Like The Others [Octopath Traveler]
Summary: Out of all the teachers she's had in her life, Therese liked Professor Cyrus Albright the best. A one-shot detailing how Therese and Cyrus met, and why Therese began to fall for him.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 1
Comments: Just a little exploration about how Therese likes Cyrus and how they might've met and interacted before the game that I quite like.

Mercy of they Contradictions [Fairy Tail]
Summary: In a world where Mavis didn't die from the kiss and remained as Zeref's anchor, how much would everything change? Oneshot, complete. Until Chapter 510 of the manga.
Status: Complete
Chapters: 2
Comments: Because of when this was written, unfortunately there's no involvement of August in it...but I still like it anyway 'cause, y'know, it's a "what if Mavis LIVES" fic involving her and Zeref, and Larcade. So yeah. Happy about it.

29-Evangelion and Warhammer Crossover
Really for me it has to be Shinji & Warhammer 40k by Charles Bhepin

Its a fusion fic of Evangelion & 40k, and in all due honesty, its an unending crackfic that after a while manages to gain enough inertia and momentum that it ceases to be crack and operated based on its own internal fantastical logic.

Thing is, this fic was a gateway into many things to me. It turned me into a true fanfic convert, introduced me to 40k (a hobby that's been with me ever since), and got me into internet meme culture. I still remember the entire week I spent with barely any sleep at all as I devoured all the awesome the author just kept shoveling into the screen. Reading it was a trip.

The fanfic itself was never finished, though it did get well past half a million words, and ended up dealing with matters well past the original canon ending. That said, I got my enjoyment out of it and am forever grateful to the author for pouring so much of themselves into the fic. There are other great fanfic recommendations, but in terms of how much it changed my life, Shinji & Warhammer 40k wins by a mile.

So yea, favorite fanfic.

30-Babylon 5 and Evangelion
I just have to mention A Dark Distorted Mirror, a lengthy Babylon 5 fic. If only because that fic was my motivation to move from school English to conversational English, literally reading the fic with a dictionary at hand. A physical dictionary book at that, since back then online translation wasn't exactly widespread yet.

Uhhh... Oedipus Ikari (Evangelion) is pretty good, too, I guess. The central aspect is the Rei/Shinji romance, but it isn't WAFF. It manages to have both cute and serious and even pretty fucked up moments, and has a pretty good look into the characters, I guess as such stays at least near to the spirit of the series.

31-Naruto
*looks into his old catalogue of Naruto favorites* ...hoo boy, that's a long list.

Dreaming of Sunshine: Life as a ninja. It starts with confusion and terror and doesn't get any better from there. OC Self-insert. No pairings. [Probably one of the more famous OC Self-Insert fics as far as Naruto fanfics go, running a pretty long way through the pre-Shippuden story...including filler arcs and non-canon movies. But the overall character dynamics are the real treat here, which are helped by the author's choice for her self-insert to be the twin sister of Nara Shikamaru. Despite being dormant with no updates since 2019, it'll keep you occupied for a bit at over 700,000 words. Which leads to my next selection...]

No Shadows Without the Sun: This is a fanfic of a fanfic, written in the world of Silver Queen's Dreaming of Sunshine: Naruto has returned from his travels with Jiraiya with a few new jutsu, a crush on Shikako Nara, and no skill whatsoever in hiding his feelings. More intent on taking down their enemies, Shikako just hopes Naruto comes to his senses soon. [In the original story, although shipping dynamics weren't focused, the overall consensus was that Nara Shikako — if she ever DID end up with anyone — would probably be Uchiha Sasuke. This story basically decided to portray what events would have to unfold for Shikako to realistically get together with Naruto; although it goes through a sort of snapshot-style approach to the Stations of Canon, and assumes some familiarity with DoS...as one-shot with 28,000+ words, the narrative payoff is substantial enough to make it a worthy addition in tandem with DoS.]

An Inch of Gold: Team 7 is sent on a mission to investigate a disturbance outside of the village, where they encounter an unconscious girl in a crater. The mysterious Sarada insists she's a shinobi from the Hidden Leaf trying to rescue her teammates. When the team discovers she possesses a Sharingan, things become even more unbelievable. (Part of the Legacy of Fire Series) [A time travel fic with enough dimensional shenanigans to justify young Team 7 meeting up with Team Boruto. The overall ways in how the past characters react to their future children are handled well enough, and the eventual scenes where Team 7 meet their future selves is worth the price of admission. Overall, a rather fun romp.]

Blind: -SasuSaku- -Complete- It was almost time, Orochimaru was going to take his body as a vessel. He hated being used...he refused to be used. With that thought, he took the kunai in his hand and slashed across his eyes. [Ooh, I REMEMBER this one. Written from 2007 - 2010, there are some aspects of this story which have been overshadowed by subsequent developments in canon, but that doesn't detract from what I remember of this story: Sasuke's development from his self-imposed injury, and the beauty of Sakura's devotion towards both him and his healing. Another long run at over 500,000 words, but I'd still recommend this one today.]

The Spring of the Plague: When Konoha ninja return from investigating one of Orochimaru's laboratories, they bring back a devastating strain of chakra bacterium - Kimimaro's sickness developed into a bioweapon. As Naruto and his surviving friends struggle to live in Plague-stricken Konoha, Madara plots, an anti-ninja cult demands repentance, and, in the midst of it all, Sasuke seeks a perfect revenge. [Hoo boy...read back through this one recently, and it hits a bit differently in a post-COVID world. That being said, the reality of how ninjas — so used to beating up their problems — are undone by their own strength makes for compelling reading...and the author certainly doesn't shy away from characters dying at the hands of the plague. Even beloved ones.]

32-Various
It's hard for me to label fanfiction as my "favorites" because my interests jump from fandom to fandom and from genre to genre. Also, I'll often really enjoy a story, only to come back to it later and find that my previous reading momentum covered up some flaws. Here's some stories I've enjoyed though, in case someone else wants to give them a try.

Tucker Foley and the Long Arc of the Paranormal Universe by helpivefallenandicantgetup (Danny Phantom)
Summary: Tucker is psychic and doesn't want to be, Sam is an occultist who doesn't believe in the occult, and the new kid is maybe-possibly-probably dead. And as if that weren't enough, there's a serial killer stalking Amity Park. Hold onto your berets, readers: this is going to be a weird one.
Published: 2019-07-02 Completed: 2021-10-23 Words: 103,829 Chapters: 21/21
A mystery story that dips into horror somewhat frequently. Everyone is characterized pretty well, and the author is great at keeping up tension. I love the friendship between Tucker and Sam with Danny eventually joining in. Don't read this before bed.

The Return by lurkinglurkerwholurks (Batman)
Summary: What the comics neglected to cover after Bruce returns from being lost in time.
Published: 2020-04-19 Completed: 2021-09-12 Words: 52,589 Chapters: 16/16
The author did an amazing job of showing that all of the charaters were trying their best and making the best decisions they could based on how they understood the situation. This is even more impressive when you consider how rare it is to find a nonbashing fic in this fandom. It ends on a hopeful note with everyone trying to do better.

What We Lost to the Fire by Syrabite (My Hero Academia)
Summary:
"Did you catch him, Endeavor?" Izuku asks as he stares up, up, up at the behemoth of a man. Cold, blue eyes turn to him, his hard expression never changing. No one says anything for a moment.

"I will," Endeavor says finally. "Someday, I will find that man."

Izuku accepts the promise with a nod. He has no tears left and wouldn't have squandered them on Midoriya Hisashi if he did, so he simply bows deeply to the hero.

"Thank you."

"Don't thank me, Izuku. It is my duty. He has disgraced the Todoroki clan for the last time. We will not allow this villain to sully our family name any further."

Izuku straightens, confusion clear on his face.

"You don't know why I am here, do you?" Endeavor asks, "Midoriya Hisashi was born Todoroki Hisashi, my younger brother. You are my nephew."
Published: 2020-05-23 Completed: 2020-09-25 Words: 140,361 Chapters:13/13
This was unexpectedly really good. Izuku's relationship with his cousins, Endeavor, and the Bakugous are nuanced and touching, and I would love to read more. Endeavor and Katsuki aren't whitewashed, but Izuku is good at seeing their good sides as well. Izuku is bound and determined to become the first quirkless pro Hero by using support equipment, and he manages to get Endeavor and the Bakugous to come to terms over his custody. The story is NOT true to canon with some changes clearly being the author's decision while others feeling possibly unintentional.

the beginning of a new and brighter birth by aloneintherain (Avatar the Last Airbender)
Summary:
"I'm so proud of you, my nephew." Uncle cups Zuko's face in his lined hand. The gesture is so tender, his palm so warm, that Zuko has to take a fortifying breath against the sudden swell of emotion in his chest.

"I want to be a good leader, Uncle," Zuko says. "I want to look after my people."

"You will," Uncle says. "You are, nephew."

In a new era of peace, Zuko works to be a very different Fire Lord than his forefathers.
Published: 2018-06-13 Words:15,637 Chapters:1/1
I love how Zuko's friends support him and how the story isn't filled with heavy depressing angst. Plus, the ending scene was great.

Mark of the Gods by AimeeLouWrites (Final Fantasy VII)
Summary:
On Gaia, every culture has a slightly different interpretation of what Soulmarks mean. Some say they promise romance, some family, some friendship, and some nothing at all. But if there's one thing nearly everyone agrees on, it's that these marks are of the gods. Only in Nibelheim do they ever seem to put a name to which god bestowed the Marks upon humanity. Their answer?

Loki

Cloud, who has the names of four SOLDIERs written on his arms, would very much have appreciated knowing that everyone else takes Loki's mischief seriously before he got to Midgar.
Published: 2021-08-11 Words: 13,022 Chapters:1/1
Hilarious one-shot where Cloud decides that lying about everything including his name will definitely keep people from finding out who he's soulmates with. Unfortunately for him, he thinks he's a lot better at lying than he actually is. No pairings.

RHUNRIKKI STROLLAR by soulcake (Warhammer Fantasy)
Summary: You play as a Snorri Klausson, Runelord of Kraka Drakk, in the earliest days of the Karaz Ankor, and through the Highs and Lows of the Canonical Golden Age.
Statistics (124 threadmarks, 630k words)

That quest I mentioned earlier in the thread that occasionally has 30,000-word updates? This is it. It hasn't updated for a while, but I'm hopeful that once the GM is less busy, it'll continue. Honestly, the thread usually moves so quickly that I don't bother trying to read all of the posts. The main reason I read this quest is because of the main character, who the voters designed to be DWARVEN SANTA CLAUS. :D It's just nice to read about a character that does his best to help the people around him and dwarven kind as a whole.
