The Holy Grail War had long since lost it's mystery.
For the first few, they were unique. Not anything overly special, since they all failed, but nothing like it had been done. And then the Grail was stolen, and more and more began to occur.
For a time, these were considered to be big deals. The War in a Magical backwater was nothing of note, but as they spread across the globe, even with aspects missing, the Grail Wars rose in popularity. There were even a few Holy Grail Wars that had become like modern legends, knowledge of their events becoming common knowledge amongst Magi.
But with not a single War granting a Wish, the idea of the Holy Grail began to fade from the minds of many. What was the point of being concerned with them, if they all seemed to fail?
So, when a minor Magus without any pedigree announced a new Holy Grail War, it was paid little attention to the seniors of the Magus Association.
But then, there were some facts that caught the eye. Chief among them being the location- Sarras. The mythical island, said to be where God took the Holy Grail, and the final resting place of Sir Galahad. With such strong ties to the original legend, the 'Holy Grail' that Letalis has claimed he had would have added mystery behind it. Perhaps enough to offset any flaws in his Holy Grail, and truly bring forth a wish.
Of course, Letalis had little intent to bring simply anyone to his island. To keep the Grail 'stable,' as he put it, Magi of a certain trait were invited exclusively. What this trait was is something of a mystery to all, but of the many who sought entry to the War, all but a few were turned away.
Of course, Letalis knew. The Magi knew a lot of things that others didn't. The people invited had been vetted to ensure they had the right connection to legends needed. Certain people had certain connections, after all, and Letalis had spent his whole life basing his Magecraft around them.
Drawing a piece of paper from his table, the Magus took a sip of wine.
Heroic Spirits may be his expertise, but even he wasn't dumb enough to try and summon any. Even if they were a path to the Akashic Record, Heroic Spirits were legends, and legends are rarely controlled.
He imagined that, once the contestants arrived, they would be most displeased by the lack of an actual Grail War, and a lack of an actual prize, beyond being able to leave Sarras with their lives.
How displeased would they be, when they discovered that the Kingdom of the Grail was hollow?
In the palace he had claimed, Letalis smiled, placing the paper on his deck, on top of a stack of thirty-nine more. Several stacks of forty surrounded it, and each stack apart from the one he had drawn from has held in a glove, with chips the shape of stars within it.
The paper, these cards, would do the Heroic Spirit work for him. Each one was attuned to pick up on the connections these guests had to legends, and would be a fun little game to pass the time.
Laughing to himself, Letalis poured another glass of wine. Tomorrow, his Duellist Kingdom would commence operations, and the games would begin.

Welcome, one and all, to Fate/Duellist Kingdom, a Yu Gi Oh inspired Nasu RP. This was not written with the slightest intent to be serious, so keep that in mind.
The idea of this RP is one unfortunately biased to those who have been in Grail War RP's before- Everyone's deck is built around characters they've submitted to RP's before. If someone is having trouble with some, their own image on the forum can be used for other cards, as well as Quests and Stories set in the Nasuverse.
This RP will be using Duellist Kingdom rules of dueling: No need to Tribute Monsters, Levels are irrelevant to the point where I've cut them, Field Power Bonuses are a thing, and the only real rules is you can only summon a monster once per turn, and attack with a monster once per turn.
Types and Attributes will mostly be the standard fare of what existed in Yu-Gi-Oh! during Duelist Kingdom, with the exception of three additional Types of Monsters that should be rather obvious as to their purpose:
Don't worry too much about it, though. I'll be happy to help with that stuff, and @Ψυχή is willing to help balance and make sure everything follows the rules. Make sure to invite him when sending in characters.
Template for your characters doesn't really matter.
Keep in mind: in this RP you get 2000 Life Points and 40 Cards, with 5 Monster Slots, 5 Spell/Trap Slots, and 1 Field Spell Slot. Design your decks with that in mind.
(As an aside, cheating is not only allowed, but encouraged. In Character, I mean. Don't be a dick Out Of Character)
(Also keep in mind that, as this is Duellist Kingdom rules, you can totally Attack the Moon to dry up the oceans, or turn machines to rust with a water ability. This is encouraged, and every duel where this doesn't happen is a duel where I'm disappointed in all of you.)

- Master-Type Monsters and SaberFace-Type Monsters have no naming requirements, and another Monster-Type must be included along with them — ex. "Rin Tohsaka" as Master- and Spellcaster-Type; "Saber, Knight of Rebellion" as Servant- and SaberFace-Type.
