Fangs in the Night. An Original Vampire quest.

Second Night, Dawn Breaks at last.
[X] Hide in the shadows, and then speak to the proprietor, after El Patrio's forces depart.
[X] "I am Justice, the man who refuses to let injustice stand unopposed."
[X] Promise to meet them, tomorrow night, at dusk.

Second Night, Part 3

The proprietor of the Ocean's Rage is tightlipped about exactly what he sold to El Patrio's men, but you become clear- without him ever admitting to such- that he runs a brisk trade in Unholy goods, however he acquires them. You consider pushing the point- perhaps revealing your Unholy powers- but ultimately decide that, for the moment, you should leave.

a question of nature

"What manner of man is beneath the mask? What devil or holy man calls himself our fair cities protector?"

You consider for a moment, but ultimately you consider there to be only one answer.

"I am Justice, the man who refuses to let injustice stand unopposed." you respond, confidently.

The man eyes you for a few seconds, then says "That's the mask, not the man. But very well, perhaps you are nothing beneath that mask. What, then, is injustice, in the eyes of a man who calls himself Justice?", not dismissively, not mocking, just a simple statement of fact, and a simple question.

You respond, puzzled, to a degree, by saying "Whenever the proper authorities stand idly by, as a villain gets away, because he's too much trouble, or step in and crush an innocent, because the powerful ask, or any number of countless other times, where things go against what any good man would see as right because it is the way of things, that is injustice, of course. I've fought against such for years, if you know of me, surely you know when I act?"

The man scoffs and says "You're a figure of the back alleys, boy, a swordsman wreathed in myth and tall tales. If I trusted everything I heard about you, you'd have died in at least ten different places and eaten the heart of an angel in a pub, besides. You can't trust the stories, sometimes even if the witnesses were reliable. " Here he pauses, and says "But an old man's lectures are probably not what you came to me to hear. I assume you have a question you want answered, or an item you wish to acquire?"

You set aside the question of why he's asking these questions, for the moment, instead turning to your original goal. "They say you hired a certain Captain White recently- tell me, what do you know of the man? They also say he possesses inhuman abilities, and I have had reason to wonder recently..."

Here the man scrutinizes you. "Tell me, Justice, does your stance on injustices apply only to humans, or does it apply to those whom are Vampires through no fault of their own? And don't tell me you don't know that can't happen, you must have heard of Trueborns, even aside the rumors that say Vampires sometimes turn with a bite."

You stand, puzzled. Of course, the truth is, given your own condition, you can't say it doesn't, to some degree.

Then the man releases a bark of laughter. "Ha, nevermind. I don't need to see your eyes to know, the way you stand, that you wouldn't condemn a man just for being a Vampire. I don't suppose it matters why." Here he looks lost in thought, before continuing with "You couldn't tell anyone and have them believe you either, I don't doubt. Yes, the man's a Vampire- and no, I won't tell you how I learned that. His business, long as he doesn't munch on anyone in our fair city. He's delivering something very precious to me to the only people I can trust with it, and he's about the only captain I have ever heard of I can trust might be able and willing to deliver it. Did you have any other business with me, or can an old merchant get back to his work, boy?"

You answer...

[] Yes.
-[] Write-in any and all topics to broach.

[] No, Justice has taken enough of your time, thank you for the answers.

The Blades of Freedom are pleased by your response, and return to their business.

Dawn breaks, you once more sequestered in your safehouse. You consider the work of the day...

(plan for day time, same as last time applies. 12hours yadda. EDIT PLAN FORMAT FOR DAY HOURS)

Train Stats: it is more difficult to train stats Ranald has no practice training without a mentor. Exception: Unholy is primarily based on how hot Ranalds emotions currently run. Ranald runs unusually calm for a Trueborn Vampire, but he nevertheless currently still has those strong relevant emotions.

[] Train Vitality: Currently 6, 0/100 to next point. Gain 6 progress per hour of training towards next point.
[] Train Speed: 10, 0/100 to next point. Gain 10 progress per hour of training towards next point.
[] Train Strength: 9, 0/100 to next point. Gain 10 progress per hour of training towards next point.
[] Train Toughness: 6, 0/100 to next point. Gain 3 progress per hour of training towards next point.
[] Train Unholy: 9, 0/100 to next point. Gain 15 progress per hour of training towards next point.
[] Train Arcana: 5, 0/100 to next point. Gain 1 progress per hour of training towards next point.
[] Train Sensory: 8, 0/100 to next point. Gain 8 progress per hour of training towards next point.
[] Train Will: 8, 0/100 to next point. Gain 4 progress per hour of training towards next point.

Develop Powers: Gain new or alter old powers. Physical and Elemental powers suffer a significant increase in difficulty without a mentor. Unholy suffers a slight increase in difficulty without a mentor. Difficulty of improving powers depends on exact desired improvement.
[] Develop Mist Form: Power, rank 1: (Unholy) Write-in desired improvement.
[] Develop Nightcry: Power, rank 1: (Unholy) Write-in desired improvement.
[] Develop Sanguine Lance: Power, rank 1: (Unholy) Write-in desired improvement.
[] Develop Bat Spies: Power, rank 1: (Unholy) Write-in desired improvement.
-[] Complete thermal vision development: Four more hours required.
[] Develop Feeding Blade: Power, rank 1: (Physical) Write-in desired improvement. *Lacks Mentor*
[] Develop Wallmaster: Power, rank 1: (Physical) Write-in desired improvement. *Lacks Mentor*
[] Develop Flurry of Blows: Power, rank 1: (Physical) Write-in desired improvement. *Lacks Mentor*
[] Develop new power: It is easier to develop variants on existing powers. *Ranald currently has no Mentor for Elemental, Physical, or Unholy*

[] Investigate dagger? (specify how)
[] Investigate one of the other weapons? (specify which, how)
[] Experiment with Soulstuff? (specify what to try)

[] Something Else? Write-in.

(OOC Time: So, you basically all guessed right on a good answer with decent logics- except while it was a good answer, limited info had you misjudge the man's starting point. Which rather amused me.

I have adjusted the character sheet with a not very precise 21 blood used for all the events of the night, as well as including the Holy Water previously acquired. Unless stated otherwise in votes, I'm assuming you are keeping it on you.)

To all previous voters: You haven't put all the time to stat increases, not leaving any to Mist Form -training.

Need plan format for day hours, which is partly my fault for forgetting to mention it (now edited into post)

Actually. Not quite sure why you think he does, possibly the disjointed nature of the updates. To be clear, the as yet unnamed dude who hired Captain White and the owner of the Ocean's Rage are different people.

I mean, you can do this, and I'll let you know right here that said merchant is very good at the merchant thing, so he'd probably be able to find something. But I think you might be conflating a couple of characters and thought I'd point it out.

I didn't mix them. I simply suspect that the one who hired the Captain White might know something, since he wanted to remove an unknown artifact from the city, an artifact he needed a vampire to deliver and could trust with. He also asked us if there were an item we wished him to acquire, so he must have experience with dealing strange and dangerous artifacts.

Fair logic. I might be overplaying my hand here, but note that the object's nature was entirely unspecified, aside that it was precious to him. But I can see where you were coming from, now.

The RP in this setting now has it's OOC and Sign Up thread up, if any questers are interested in participating or ever just reading more stuff in the setting.

Again, plan format on the daytime hours (and also you all have 13 hours for the 12 hour period).

As is, if, when I close the vote, none of these have changed (and no new votes have rolled in), @Icipall's vote will win just for being the only valid one.

(well, technically, it should lose on the things to say to the old guy, but I'd probably count it as winning there, too, since it's basically the same thing)

I can remove that part, if it is a problem.
It's not really a problem, I don't think, given either it'll be the winning plan and it'll make sense to say that or some other plan will win. I doubt there's much chance of anything weird happening... barring people trying to make something weird happen just to spite me now.

As Veekie is voting for nearly that and therefore barring another tiebreaker that's good enough.

It's very tempting to make it a triple-tie.
But this might get us an update faster and I don't really care which plan wins, so:

Second day, start of third night

Your efforts to gain strength work just as well as your efforts to develop speed the previous day, in just ten hours your capacity for weight and so forth has increased, your arms and legs alike are stronger.

<Strength increased from 9 to 10>

The hour you spend trying to push your senses does not yield immediately evident results, but that's hardly surprising.

While you try to focus on developing your Mist Form to be less obvious, you aren't really sure you made any progress towards the idea- you aren't sure how you sense things in mist form, and testing it by exiting the safe house and showing it to people would rather defeat the point.

<Mist Form makes unknown amount of progress. ??? to results. Ten Blood spent for the days exertions.>

Finally, you depart to meet with the Blademasters of the Blades of Freedom.

You arrive to a Blades of Freedom controlled warehouse you were directed to, and soon a half dozen men and women who each walk with the air of a champion duelist come forth and greet you, alongside Santiago and the leader from last night who's name you did not catch, who confirm that you are Justice and that these are the Blademasters, to the other party. (though, you note, not whether this is all or merely some of the Blademasters)

What is your strategy going into the meeting?

[] You will be cagey, and recalcitrant, and attempt to cause them to reveal their goals, only revealing your own if they truly align.
[] You will be forward, and eager, explaining your goals upfront, albeit not your vampiric condition.
[] You will focus on what they can offer you, and what they would ask of you, over goals per se.
[] You will focus on gaining the measure of the men before you, over the Blades in the abstract. No noble goal executed by monsters would remain noble.
[] Write-in (This is your overarching strategy, goals, etc, for the meeting. Be as clear as possible, as I will be attempting to not pause the scene too many times for votes, so only fairly major crossroads or reveals will call a halt to the meeting. If I am unclear what you mean or what your stance is on comparatively minor details, I will give my best guess/most in character variation, and push forward. Be aware I may not be thinking of the presets the same way you are, and don't be afraid of overwhelming me with the amount of details. Don't try to micromanage exact word choice or whatever unless you considerate very important, this is about Justice's goals, opinions, and conversational strategy going in.)

OOC Time. I am very possibly being inadequately precise on blood, but ah well if so.
