In this world, things are mostly as you or I would recognize, from times like the European Middle Ages. But unlike our world, there are those who wield elemental powers, and those who serve a deity with definite power in the world, gaining Holy abilities to keep the common man safe and serving under wise and powerful angels. And there are those they are kept safe from, vampires, necromancers and their armies of undead, and other terrors of the night. But mostly vampires. The common man knows of and fears these night terrors, for they are stronger, faster, and wield strange, supernatural powers.

You are now one of those Vampires.

You are a recently turned Vampire. Vampires come into being in one of three ways, which type are you?

[] Turned by a lethal bite. A 'natural' phenomenon, most people drained dry by a Vampire turn into a mindless thrall, but some rare cases become full Vampires instead. These Vampires have exceptional Physical abilities, even for a Vampire.
[] A 'trueborn' Vampire, a natural occurrence from extreme rage or sorrow, you 'spontaneously' became a Vampire from intense negative emotions. Trueborn Vampires have superior Unholy abilities, the natural yet forbidden powers of all Vampire kind.
[] A self made Vampire, your mastery of (forbidden) magics allowed you to recreate the transformation without the mess or fuss. Naturally, you possess superior Elemental abilities, due to your practice with common Elemental magics.

So yeah, now that I've finally gotten the opportunity to get to the next update in my current quest, I find myself wanting to run another concurrently. For all that I keep having quests die when I start new ones thus far, I think that's effectively a matter of coincidence thus far. To those participating in my existing quest, don't worry, I'll continue putting out at least one update there for each update here.

After this step, there will be opportunities to decide what kind of life you lived until now, your reaction to the change, gender, details on your particular Vampire abilities, and more, but this is where we shall start. Feel free to ask questions, this is a somewhat loose setting concept I have for a more traditional style of Vampires in a story, the kind that burn in the sun, feed on the blood of man, and wield greater physical abilities and strange powers. And can't cross running water, and a few other things like that. Well, a game, ideally, but eh. It's being used for this quest for now.

I know that it is basically inevitable that a magic option will win here, but I'd prefer this.

I know people say that about SV, and I know it does happen to some degree, but who knows, you may be able to sway people.

For what it's worth to those wanting supernatural abilities, physical has those, too, and you'll have some access to all three basic categories if you so desire, it's more a matter of degree.

I prefer being a noble snob, over a blood sucking plebian. Bite people in the night? Please. We're much more cultured than that, we drink from Blood Banks, using wine bottles!

Eh, it's worth commentary that a Trueborn Vampire is called that due to being the origin of Vampires, generally. Nobody was turned till after Trueborns existed, and the magical replication is just that, a replication. So the oldest Vampires are Trueborns, and they continue to come into being. As a Trueborn, you're initially cut off from Vampire society, such as it is, due to being the product of an internal process with no direct connection to other Vampires. It's the Turned Vampire that will have the option of an immediate Vampiric mentor, if the Trueborn wins you'll then be voting on what happened to drive you to such extreme emotions as to become an Unholy aberration in a society that knows it's a thing and tries to make it not happen. (options likely to include things like your village being burned to ground with you as sole survivor or your family being killed and then raped. Trueborns take extremes to occur)

Not saying you can't vote that way, just saying I'm not sure it has what you are looking for.

We can come from any background, right?

Already have an idea for our Trueborn Vampire's backstory to make him/her "cultured" and capture the feel I had in mind, so it's all ok!

More or less, yes. Nobility and peasantry alike are options, certainly.

I'm disinclined to allow being a Vampire Hunter, for assorted reasons, but I doubt that's what you were thinking anyways.

Not at all. I was thinking more along the lines of a Knight that espouses loyalty to the crown above all else, who'll then seemingly be betrayed by that which they swore fealty to.

Ah. Yes, a knight with such strong devotion believing themselves betrayed could feasibly meet either the sorrow or rage threshold, depending on other facets of the personality.

I will note since the voting trend is towards Trueborn, that young Trueborns, like you would be, tend to be naturally emotionally unstable with their foremost goal being the righting of the circumstances that led to such extreme negative emotions- whether that means trying to seek to undo an event (often in spite of the impossibility of undoing it) or revenge against those that wronged them.

There's some wiggle room, but be prepared for the kind of being you'll be playing.

(By contrast, the forbidden magic choice essentially locks you in to wanting to be a Vampire, since it's a manual action, and means you have some degree of learning in magic that implies the likes of scholar or nobility as the most likely, while a Turned Vampire could be any number of reactions, including whether they are inclined to hostility towards their sire or not is very much not set in stone)

VENGEANCE!!

This reminds me of the Tremere (The best clan of Vampires) from VTM, as such it has my vote.

What do people think of having the reason we became a Vampire something like a Knight whose greatest belief is loyalty to the crown, and as they come back to the castle of their Lord, having finally completed a quest which will allow you to marry the woman you've desired all your life and who desires you, you find the castle burned to the ground, all the men slain and all the women, including your love raped then slain, with the only sign of who a declaration seemingly from the crown that all who called this region home have been shown to be traitors to the crown and stripped of their titles and punishment in the hands of your lord's ancestral foe, who you've just found out is trying to usurp the throne on your quest?
