Fallow Fields [Naruto SI]

Damn Ensui. Absolutely zero hesitation there.

More people will know what happened here than in canon. If nothing else, Ensui can prove it was enemy action and that will take a lot of the ire off of Naruto himself.

The Uchiha, on the other hand, might get it worse since there's concrete proof that it was one of them (albeit a supposedly dead one) that did it.
I don't know if any of this gets out beyond "enemy ninja with a stolen sharingan attacked, unsealed the nine tails. Was killed at great expense and resealed by the sacrifice of the Hokage." There are going to be maybe 3 Konoha ninjas afterwards that are alive and know what happened and they have little incentive to say anything.

On a semi-related note, should it become known that Obito is to blame, things are going to become very interesting for Kakashi. Nominally, the Uchiha are to blame, but Fugaku gonna do his best to pass the bucket.

That whole "did you steal the eye" trial gonna rear its head like it was never over.
There being a Renegade Uchiha on the lose will probably worry them a lot more than Kakkashi's eye.

If a bunch of panik'ing and angery people cannot reach the actual perp, they very often turn toward whoever or whatever is close. It is a far-from-guaranteed scenario, but things could land in a very awkward shape at the end of all this, with a lot of sane voices silenced or otherwise occupied.

That said, there is definitively a good chance that everything just gets top secret'ed and it all just gonna end up with a lot of knowingly baleful silent glares and not a whole lot of loud actions. Hell, it basically ended that way in canon.
I love this story but in a world of Tsunade Senju I don't understand why Seiko isn't more healed.
Because Tsunade Senju is not here, and aside from Orochimaru, there aren't that many people who are -that- good with medical magic.

The gap between what mc.nobody no name medic and Tsunade Senju is extreme. People who are not Naruto or under personal care of someone who matters just don't get healed super-quickly or super-well, in general. IDK how that plays with plug-and-play eyes, but that's just how it is.

Continuity error fix: the elevator is not nonexistent but broken. chapter now edited to say

' He's on the fourth floor of the same building Ensui's in, and in the years since she visited him, the only change is that the elevator has completely broken down. She should file a complaint.'

Fugaku is jaded, and ossified, but it looks like the interaction got to him, a little. The, uh. Positive reliance? Doesn't look like a thing people often come to him or his clan for.
There's some setup right here. I'm not sure what kind yet, but I'm calling it. First instinct would be to say it'll be relevant to the whole coup thing, but who knows. Maybe establish her as someone who Fugaku can trust (inasmuch as ninja can trust) to help bring the clan's grievances to the right ears.

If you do it outside of there you'll die!"

"If I do it in there they'll die!"

"I'm going to kill you both!" Obito yells.

"[I AM GOING TO DESTROY EVERYTHING YOU LOVE]," Kurama roars, Biter faithfully translating for her.

I am going to fail you, Seiko's knee murmurs. And then it gives out.

A/N: <3
Holy crap this was such a great chapter. Absolutely loving this shit right here.

This chapter goes so hard holy shit. Edge of my seat here, the next chapter can't come soon enough. Kurama as a free agent could lead to some very left-field conclusions to this arc - or exactly the same one as canon, and both options are tantalising for the story...

And I've never seen someone do something like this with Obito. No matter how everything else goes down the fallout of a) the identity reveal and b) him losing his other eye is going to be absolutely fascinating to see play out.

They haven't sealed Kurama yet in this as you can read from the current chapter.

Seiko's condition is an excellent obfuscation for who is the jinchuuriki is.

You misunderstand: I meant that they picked Naruto in canon for a reason, and Seiko probably doesn't fit the criteria.

Not that the criteria make sense - 'you need a baby for a jinchuuriki' turned into 'use whoever' at some point.

On the "can barely fight" bit - Kurama would naturally take care of it with his supernatural regeneration, no?

Who knows? We only see it work on fresh wounds, and it does fuck all for Naruto's arm, so it might not actually work. No way of knowing.

That whole "did you steal the eye" trial gonna rear its head like it was never over.

"We agree that he gave you the eye freely, but he's a traitor - he has no right to give anyone anything."

Obito being both alive and a traitor is going to complicate matters.

Your should just redo the entire of chapter 14. For one it is way to easy, obits literally just stood there ad he got dismantled, and biter getting blood makes literally zero sense he had zero reason to undo his spacial technique when she was right next to him. It is just so fix it Felix, easy and generic.

Damn Ensui, that's pretty hardcore. I agree with the other person who said he'd probably lose that eye given the hectic situation and unlikelihood of anyone being able to prioritize a complex but not life-saving procedure until it's too late to reimplant. Great payoff of the previous buildups of Seiko's chunnin exam and showdown with the mist guys.

and if Minato makes it out of this alive, he's never gonna believe Seiko when she says it's "not something big" ever again.

Ensui's eyesocket might scar over and not be suitable for the operation by the time a med-nin is free but he can probably preserve the eyeball easily in a storage scroll.

... i still think the elevator is a genjutsu.

If you are affected by it and try to visit someone affected by it, the elevator works.

If you are affected by it and try to visit someone who isn't affected by it, the elevator is out of order.

The sharingan can see through the illusion.

It all makes sense.

Wait, so instead of installing an elevator landlord hired a shinobi to cast a persistent illusion of elevator? While presumably hiking costs due to "having an elevator"?

Checks out.

I was thinking more like, a genjutsu specialist cast is as training, and it's still going because most jounin don't bother going inside the building to get to their apartments so can't be bothered to dispel it.

Landlord absolutely raised rent for it, tho.

Seiko's Biggest Smile
Seiko smiles at him, a huge, brilliant grin.

What was that again? People who break the rules are trash, but people who abandon their comrades are worse than trash? She doesn't even think it's wrong to break rules at all.

She kind of understands why her dad decided it was fine to risk re-starting the war.

"I'm so glad that you're alive," she says, and then starts forward, awkwardly patting his shoulder as he bursts into tears.

@Tempera and @Magery made me do this

Obito: ". . .Kakashi has a sister?!"
He's met her already so it should probably be "She's Kakashi's sister?"
For a second I thought that Seiko was going to hit the viewer with a comically oversized mallet hand.
On one hand, she hangs out with Chobee so it's not completely unrealistic for her to know that skill. On the other hand, her using said skill has low risks of starting a feud (at the very least) between the Hatake and Akimichi clans so she probably wouldn't do it unless the situation was truly desprate.

I thought this kind of jutsu was kinda prevalent? With, for example, Umino Iruka knowing a variation with the head.

/ Mental image of Konoha Sportsfans/Chuunin exam spectators painting #1 on their hand and using the jutsu in lieu of big foam hands.

I feel like the leeway has always been in canon. After all, Mito was an adult when she sealed it in herself.

Requiring a kid is probably a specific condition of Minato's seal of choice, which is designed to be irontight yet allow optimal integration, rather than general sealing wisdom.
