Excrucian Quest (Nobilis)

[X] A Marvelous Artifice - Your Pstate is something intentionally built. Something you made yourself, probably edging more towards the complicated than the simple; something more intellectual than emotional, likely. It's also something good, or at least described in positive terms. Not a murder, an execution. Not a lie, a story.

[X] A Sorrowful Thing - As with A Pretty Truth, your Pstate is something discovered. But as a natural contrast, it is something bad, or at least described in negative terms. Something wicked or regretful, like a dark memory.

TIME FOR CRYING ALL THE TIME

Heh, I remember one Peusdo Estate was a gun that killed people until it's user politely pointed out that death is also a lie.

Which promptly made the deceased individual lying on the ground feel silly. Or insane.

Cilantro Hinge Coriander Hasp! He is my favorite. You've got it a bit mixed up, though--his pstate is "Those Who Listen To Coriander Hasp" and includes such notable properties as "...ain't dead" and "...are filled up with fire and bad ideas."

The gun is a rifle called Ritho: it's Abhorrent, shoots flaming bullets, and it really does kill you!

...until you listen to him when he tells you you ain't dead.

Ah, forgot that it was the Those Who Listen and not the gun that was his Pstate.

[X] A Despicable Construction - As with A Marvelous Artifice, your Pstate is something made. But it expresses something dark as well - usually something wicked or wrong. Even if it isn't negative, it might use naturally dubious terminology. Not explanations, but frantic excuses. Not a testimony, but a legal fiction.

[X] A Despicable Construction- Ours is a wicked, or at least not good, nature. Naturally, we shall use it for only the grandest of hijinks.

Functional Pstate Description
Yours is a sorrowful Pseudo-Estate. A thing that is simple, yet the cause of so much trouble and regrets, in all likelihood. This is what it is. But how do you express it? Through what language do we talk of your Pseudo-Estate? Functionally, what is it? Is it...

[] Descriptive - The core of this Pstate is description. The world is a story, a thing made by people telling a story of how it is. So you do the same, fighting fire with fire: you create or forge a story of your own, a narrative with sense and context. This kind of Pstate derives power from observable qualities, hard facts, events or things that can you can change or play around with to make your own story.
[] Reactive - The core of this Pstate is context and emotion: how people react to or interact with you. Creation is a hornet's nest, full of barriers to communication; it is a thing that can throw up things like 'distance' or 'disagreement' or 'death' to prevent people from seeing one another. This Pstate kind is about tearing through those walls and talking to people.
[] Possessive - The core of this Pstate is a thing, phenomenon or experience. Creation is huge and vast and complicated. Trying to disprove the world is like trying to stamp out a desert one footstep at a time. So you take a simpler approach, creating a single weapon against it, something of your own or your surroundings that you can hold against Creation and make it false in its face, sowing contradictions and abnormalities.
[] Active - The core of this Pstate is events, and to a lesser extent experiences. Creation gets weight from history, from order, from the suspension of disbelief it gets from causality. You don't do that. You know the world's a lie, so you might as well treat the world as a stage, as the props it has. There are limits here because Creation fights back hard to make sense, but occasionally you have a free hand to just make up unexplainable events.

This is the fun part of character creation, because Pstates can be just about anything, from the grimly serious to the absurd and ridiculous; here is where we start to fight over how to express the Pstate.

Here are, for the sake of clarity and imagination, some canon examples as to the typical naming structures of Pstates.

You could probably have a pseudo-Estate that talks about the future, too, like:
  • Things [Your Name] Is About to Eat
  • Places [Your Name] Is Going
but it may not be as awesome in practice as in conceit.

[X] Possessive - The core of this Pstate is a thing, phenomenon or experience. Creation is huge and vast and complicated. I like things.

I don't know which one I want yet.

My favourite example for silliness was "The Invincible Throne of Viticus Chelonian Invictus " Which allowed VCI to apply the property of 'supports VCI' to himself to stand on his own back.

Edit:
[X] Possessive

You really can't go wrong with a Pstate that allows you to have turtles all the way down.

Pseudo-Estate
Just as your Pseudo-Estate is a sorrowful thing, it is also a thing that grabs others, submerges them, makes them a part of it - it's Possessive, it is the single thing that you've chosen or found as your weapon. It is your... Well, what is it? This is very important: Dark or sad, something that happens in or around you, it'll be your most consistent source of power. So don't be shy, tell me, what is it?
[] Write in

[Name]'s Grief/Regrets (a sad, recurring emotion that can infect other people)
[Name]'s Bad Luck (a persistent and mostly unfortunate quality of contagious bad luck)
[Name]'s Delusions (reality-blurring fantasies that tend towards the unhealthy)

In case no real consensus can be reached, I shall choose the Pstate myself, probably from one of these- we can't really afford to lose momentum.

Sorry for the delay, folks, going through some stuff. Can't promise this quest won't suffer some delays in the near future, but I'll try to keep that to a minimum.

[X] [Name]'s Shallow Excellence (Sauntering away from explosions, landing that twelve story landing just right. This Pstate will replace that false creation's mundanity with truthful Excellence. Of course the recipient might lose something important with all that awesome filling them to the brim -but so what? You're too awesome to care!)

Not sure if this fits with sorrowful or dark.
It's more a pride before the fall, becoming amazingly talented at something but neglecting everything else.

Categorizing Pstates is inherently a hard thing to do. The world's to blame! If necessary, we can just fine-tune some properties to give it a more negative feeling.

If necessary some of the same feel might be capture with, for example, [Name]'s Vanity, [Name]'s Hubris, or The Spotlight Stealing Nature of [Name]. Though, of course, the meaning changes greatly with the nuances.

Personally I like the last one.

[X] [Name]'s Spotlight. (Why is everyone paying such attention to the dreadful Lie when they could be looking at You? Of course, trying to care is hard when everyone else is so much less interesting, and the World seems to feel the same way, but sometimes you can give the underdog some time in the limelight.)

I'll have to try and make it darker.

Edit:
Edit'd for Possessive.

Remember, this is a Possessive Pstate, so instead of The Spotlight Stealing Nature of [Name], it would probably make more sense to simplify it to [Name]'s Spotlight, and from there define it as something that steals people's attentions, is awesome, and probably polarizing on internet forums. What do you mean, [Name] shouldn't have done that and hijacked the narrative? [Name] did literally nothing wrong!

...And so forth.

[x] [Name's] Baleful Theatrics- The world has cast you in this role; you may as well play the part. And it would be simply rude of you to not induct friend and foe into the show. There's only emotional honesty here, you see.

Some possible Properties could include:
-Steal the spotlight
-Draw those around them into a destructive vortex of symbolism
-Must be overwrought and full of dramatic posing
-Suffer from fits of angsty soliloquy
-Make the world more like the stage
-Possess frighteningly good production values
et al

This.

something something ironically-genuine self-aware overwrought byronic heroes

(Possible alternative with slightly different nuance: The Byronic Heroics of [X] )
