Following from yesterday's drawing, here's the Team America crew!

Oh dope, more art! I'm trying to be careful with bonuses, so I'll need to confer with my betas over what to give this, but for now, have a thread-mark!

Edit: Alright, we've conferred: the +5 you had from the prior piece is getting upgraded to a +7. Still one turn and one project only, but it can be any project you want.

Cool! Tbh no real need to worry about it - I just do this art because I enjoy it. Loving the quest so far!

At leasr we manage to finish the mandates just in the nick of time

I suggest next turn we put the majority of the mischief dices, if not all and trow some of Wilbur dice for good measure, in Advanced Fraud since the result will depend of the roll we get plus if we get a good roll we can instead earn funding instead of losing ir albeit New Orleans will suffer Financial Unrest as consequence.

Also now that we have the Smuggler that's a logistic and personell subordinate, there's crime too but there's so many dices in the mishief category that's a not factor at this point, with another specialized in programming and robotics, we can trow the Arcadian Agent into the Sky-Watch Club although they are going to be rank 1 so probably not going to be that good.

Because the competent bastards got poached by the DOP branches with better funding

Louisiana was one of the zones that was written off along with Oregon and New York, so it would take a significant investiment in the region to attract better resources and subordinates our way.

Case in example if we get one of the laser tower in the convention, the DoP probably would start pay more attention to our corner since that investiment is not cheap.

With Benoit being the religious fanatic she is I can totally see her blaming the more recent issue with the church on the new satanist mayor somehow messing with them. Which is funny considering that he seems like a Next agent and they have been attacking DoP facilities/projects so that's actually plausible.

Ironically pretty sure every single one if Edgar's subordinates will agree that was a turn for the worst.

Okay, let me get this straight. We got 14 on one die, 84 on 3 dice, 16 on 2 dice, and then 107 on 4 dice - and this is another straight turn of generally bad rolls. Bird, what did you do to offend the Dice Gods?

To be fair to the Motor Pool, Edgar's dice cumulatively took a -20 (which is still far below average admittedly). But yeah, FACILITIES did not roll well (again).

I've been wanting to write an omake for something and I sort of want to make one for this quest, but i'm not sure if it would be appreciated by the author or what I should make the omake about.

Really feels like we should only put Edgar on things where he actually gets bonuses. Not only to increase the odds of him criting but hopefully speed up our research so we can do more fun projects

I appreciate all omakes, though note that- barring specific exceptions- omakes do not receive mechanical rewards, just a threadmark if I happen to personally enjoy them.

Yeah but i want to write one and am sort of fishing for ideas. For me the urge to write comes before i have an idea of what to write.
If you want ideals could suggest some.

Pre-war
- Louisiana DoP employee such as one working at Broadcast station.
- Work at a Weather station we built.
- Viewpoint of a Gecko community member and their thoughts on the DoP and their various projects.
- People's view's on Wright animation as well as the DoP's broadcasts beyond those just at the orphanage.
- Resident of a swampland and their thoughts?
- Some minor DoP or someone deciding to investigate the haunted areas of New Orleans?
- Average Louisiana radio broadcast.
- How other departments are reacting and handling the duracrete shortage.

Post-war
- Someone whose likely doomed trying to survive in the area directly after the bombs hit.
- There's a spore plant named Seymour in Fallout capable of talking and playing chess, Spore plants are also related to venus flytraps. What if a Ma-Ma Mauler also achieved such a state?

You know I surprise that Project Brainstorm is yet to be mentioned in this quest or the last one since per Fallout 3 was a initiative to induce jingoism among the population to increase tolerance of more extreme and authoritarian methods employed by the government.

Also Fallout 76 introduce the Patriotic Patriots of America True Patriotism Act, a very silly name but one of the articles involved drafting citizens, regardless of profession or class, for any task the government required to be accomplished. In case of the game to assist in the Census of Appalachia.

So in theory Edgar and his local branch of the DoP can be drafted to accomplish a task by request of the federal government, never mind the fact they are government employees.

I don't think that would work, though that's largely because dogs are just way too small to ride by normal sized humans even in the Fallout universe. Elephants would probably work a lot better. Also gives us incentive to clone elephants.

I agree on the elephants cloning thing, but actually the only reason dogs can't be ridden is that they don't have the spinal support for it. This is something Edgar can fix with genetic engineering.

"Life isn't a damn comic book," You responded acidly. "As much as people all seem to have become cartoons since the war started, this is still real life, filled with real monsters produced by a real and fucking crushing system. Of fucking course the carcasses its produces and forces me to look at every day are HEAVY. Any more questions or are you satisfied that I'm not a psychopath?"

As an actual non-pathological psychopath I find Edgar using people like me as an excuse to look better in comparison a kind of scapegoating. I can't really get offended when people use the term psychopath to actually mean "monster in human skin/flesh" because I literally lack the capacity for that sort of offense but at the same time the fact that people like me exist doesn't excuse the majority of humanity and theirs' atrocities. Psychopaths are a neurodivergent minority of the human population after all.

While turning kids into murder implements is a valid criticism of Edgar's moral character it should be kept in mind that the alternative to Edgar burying the memory is the children remembering the fact they participated in several killings, something that would very obviously be deeply traumatic.

Beyond that I'm going to be frank most of your rhetoric is deeply misunderstanding the degree and kind of evil of evil Edgar is: he is, bluntly, not going to go around killing middle managers unless he has an actual reason nor is he going to feed random people to killer plants to test them.

He isn't a random murder maniac, nor is he some generic nebulous cloud of inchoate malice. He has specific neuroses, traumas, coping mechanisms, and ideological stances that all his prior murders can be traced to: the woman at the orphanage he ax murdered triggered Edgar's visceral reaction to seeing children hurt, the security guards died because Edgar reflexively dehumanizes people in uniforms, the people he targetted using the Buddytraps were explicitely those Edgar didn't think would ever face real consequences, and when he threatened to blow up ACME regional headquarters it was because it was the only way he could realistically stop them dumping with the resources he had available at that time.

Edgar is, in other words, a character with actual psychology that dictates his actions, not a cartoon whose going to feed assembly-line workers to the woodchipper because they work for Raytheon. He isn't going to be evil for the sake of being evil: every action he takes will ultimately have at least some internal reasoning or explanation.

Beyond that, as mentioned, you're overestimating how evil Edgar actually is: yes, he is a man who brainwashes children and uses them as murder implements. Unlike Clancy, however, who would do that out of political convenience and to spread paranoia about the threat of peoples children in order to further destabilize society and kill at targets she couldn't otherwise get to, Edgar is at least trying first and foremost to help the children and is at least attempting a form of harm reduction. Between Edgar, Clancy, and the FUSA, Edgar is, frankly, the least likely of the trio to turn those kids into outright child soldiers.

He's evil, sure, but he's very much the lesser evil.

This is frankly another issue: firstly, what Edgar is doing isn't actually the same and any rhetoric that compares him to the government or vault tec is immensely underestimating how bad the other two parties are. Sure, brainwashing is obviously, like, very morally fraught, but FUSA brainwashing exists on every level of media and education across the entire nation from birth to coffin. There is quite literally no way to avoid it, especially since the government is obviously suppressing any information that could lead to these children developing political views the gov't doesn't want.

Beyond that, "brainwashing someone to not be fascist" isn't actually morally equivocal to brainwashing someone into a fascist, especially since the underlying motives and goals are completely different. It's not good, but fascism is, like, an innately evil belief structure that is literally built on cruelty and malice.

And that's before we get into the fact that Vault Tec and FUSA are both, y'know. Genocidal.

Like to be blunt here: you kinda have a very naive understanding of the political situation and it's moral dimensions. Edgar could go all in on mind-control and at the end of the day he would still be the lesser evil compared to the other parties being discussed. I cannot stress this enough: FUSA is morally equivocal to nazi germany. And like, this isn't just a you thing here, but I'm kind of getting the vibe a lot of people don't actually realize what that means or how dire the situation is. Death camps, human experimentation, genocide. Again, genocide. Genocide. Every day, at a minimum, tens thousands of people in FUSA are being murdered by the government deliberately with companies like Vault Tec and RobCo assisting. Adults, women, and yes, children are constantly and ongoingly being systematically killed by FUSA, who is also per canon exporting this abroad by annexing and occupying foreign nations, so like it's not even purely internal cruelty.

And even if we discount the genocide fact we also have the fact that Vault Tec and the government are both partially responsible for ending the world. And, y'know, the vaults: another reason the comparison with Vault Tec fails is that even if mind control bad Vault Tec has done significantly worse than researching and using mind control technology.

OK @The Bird I'm going to have to vehemently disagree with you here. Is FUSA and the most powerful companies in it the worst morally out of every other character and faction in Fallout? Yes. Is Clancy someone with a lower capacity for good and higher capacity for evil than Edgar? Again yes.

But. The way we played Clancy in the first quest in this AU Fallout setting means that her capacity for good was emphasized and her capacity for evil was deemphasized and in this second quest in this setting so far it has been reversed with Edgar's capacity for evil emphasized and his capacity for good deemphasized.

So even though you've written Clancy as someone far more evil than Edgar on paper what we've seen of her makes her look like she's the better person than Edgar so far with her coming off as an Anti-Villain to Edgar's outright Villain.

This is honestly mostly due to the dice because Clancy actually rolled badly on her supervillain revenge plot against FUSA in the first three turns of the first quest while Edgar rolled average to good on his own villainous actions in this quest.

Hashed out an idea on Discord to make Plan Knightfall extra potent; since the Pinkertons are getting faction penetration into both Baton Rouge and New Orleans, then after we set up Baton Rouge (with Police Surplus and robbing the bank), we can rob the bank at New Orleans as well and then do Dissolve the Police in both cities at the same time to give the Pinkertons two black eyes. As a bonus, we'd also be giving a middle-finger to the new mayor of New Orleans.

Is this still the plan? Or are we avoiding bank robbery in favor of cooking the books well enough to do economic damage to New Orleans now?

Can I ask what the appeal of the Evil Lair is? Because I'm really not seeing it.

Secure hidden location to stash all our night toys when we aren't using them that also nets us a really hard to acquire resource every turn just by existing.

Yeah but i want to write one and am sort of fishing for ideas. For me the urge to write comes before i have an idea of what to write.

Would writing about the effect Aquatic Atomiplants have on the Water Edit: Seeker's journey be something you can and are interested in writing?
