[X] Anyone else! (defer hiring a tutor for another turn)

Rasputin is to much of a risk in what he could do by being close to us and the rest aren't any better.

Changing my vote to -

[X] Anyone else! (defer hiring a tutor for another turn)
At least use the proper vote as I did not see a write in:

[] None of the above, lets try to find someone less crazy next year.

I rather put my hand in a blander, then trust Rasputin.:sour:

Had trouble finding it, and couldn't recall what it was. Vote now changed.

[X] Intrigue: Assassinations, blackmail, kidnappings. It's hard to organize a rebellion if all your leaders are dead or silenced.

[X] Rasputin: Highest survival rate. Specialises in healing, defense and summoning. Refuses to teach summoning to children. Russian Loyalties. Actually really good with children, just keep him away from your wife.

Rasputin isn't a good choice, but choosing no one is even worse. And I personally doubt that we'll be able to find anyone better within a few turns.

Changing vote to this. We need the high survivability given both our children are magical. Also, we should try to get another kid in case things go badly with regards to magic.

As to keeping him away form the wife, would we really care? We've slept with at least 3 other women during our marriage, and we have the very open-minded trait, so would we care IC? Of course the problem of him taking over the country remains, but we can always replace him later if things start getting to bad

It's the fact that he might subvert our government that is the problem. Also it would be very hard to get rid of him because of his specialties in healing, defense, and summoning (of possible Eldritch Abominations) once he gets on board and starts to doing things we do not like.

Then give him plenty of busy work to keep him occupied. Send him on business trips to that university in the Americas. Have him investigate the Congo monster. Have him meet with the British to discuss Vampire problems. Have Tesla goad him into a metaphorical dick measuring contest over whether magic or science is better. Assign him to track down any other magical people in our nation/colonies. There are plenty of ways to keep him busy without actually getting rid of him. Won't be too easy, but we could probably manage it.

If we establish that he works for us early on, then he won't be nearly as much of a problem. The reason he was so effective in Russia was that the queen was basically falling over herself to get on his good side, and that the tzar did nothing to control the man. We won't make that mistake, and I doubt Mona will fall for him nearly as hard as that. As such we are in a much better position than the Russians.

It's Rasputin, I'm not sure if that'd stick.

Nah, bullets stick just fine. Might take a few shots to be sure though. Poison's debateable.
He's resistant to regular causes of death, not imune to them. (Going by the legend around him, at least. There's a fair bit of evidence that he flat out didn't Eat the poisoned food, and the first bullet to actually hit somewhere actually immediately fatal killed him.)

Depends when and how we go about it, i suspect.
Easy enough to offer the post for a fixed period of time, with option for renewal if we want, from the start. Reduces any hard feelings, i'd think.
Plus, IC, we have no reason to worry about him, particularly, yet.

Now that our pirate troubles are sorted out and we know what SPECTRE are, I think that next turn we should select the intrigue option/s to help out the Herero and Namaqua people (German SW Africa and Genocide Evidence). We wouldn't want to be the sort of nation just stands by to things like that.

Also, how come we drilled for oil in Guinea but not Angola? Angola has more oil (or at least it does as of 2014, and I'm not sure if it includes off-shore reserves which may be hard to access in early 20th centrury).

With our wife's stats we will likely have around 2 dozen children over the course of our life.

Losing a couple children is ultimately not that big a deal.

Rasputin could easily take the country from us. This is a world where he actually is magical. You can definitely expect him to shrug off bullets like splinters.
