[X] Go to Natalie Moon. She sounds like she can help and less politics.
I looked at the stationary store; it was cute and almost on the edge of kitschy. I pushed opened the door to see a bored teenager reading a book. She was east asian as far as I could tell, in a formal blouse and slacks. She lowered the book to look at me. I didn't have many clothes, so I just threw on something clean and comfortable.
"I'm here to see Natalie Moon," I said.
"Boss is in the wayyyy back," she pointed at the back of the store. "Feel free to open the door."
"Thanks," I said, striding to the door and opening it up. It revealed a fairly spacious storage room. I walked past the shelves to the sound of keys tapping.
"Natalie Moon?" I called out, before walking into paper. There was a trail of paper leading to an afro asian woman tapping at a type writer. She turned in her Lazy Boy chair in surprise. She was a short curvy woman, whose dark eyes stayed at my neckline.
"Ah! You scared me!" Natalie Moon jokingly clutched at her heart. "You must be Taylor Hebert. I'm Natalie Moon."
"Sorry about that," I said, holding out my hand. "Nice to meet you."
"Haha, I get really absorbed in my work, Tiffany says, that's the girl out cashiering for me, she says I'd lose my own head if it wasn't attached!" She said, picking up the papers and organizing the desk. I looked at a hand drawn sketch of some kind of horrific creature and read the phrase children's livers before she pushed me to another corner of the store.
"Now let's go over the basics ... " Natalie explained some basics of the supernatural. Vampires were real, there were several Courts, Faeries were real, don't fuck with them, iron hurts them, circles were awesome, etc. etc. etc.
"How do you know so much?" I asked, mulling it over. This world was starting to sound like a death world. Where the hell did Contessa put me?
"I've been researching this my entire life," she confessed, grinning. "My mother was a hedge witch fortunately enough."
I blinked in realization. "You're writing a book?"
"Well not just me. I have some coauthors. Tea? Wonderful stuff, matcha from japan," she said, holding out a fragrant mug of tea that she had made while talking about the basics. I accepted but put it down on the desk between us.
"Isn't that dangerous?" I asked. All these shadowy factions ... exposed?
"Hah! Incredibly. But someone has to do it," she said, shrugging. "Nevermind that, we're here for your lessons. What do you want to learn? Summoning, creating the elements, potions, illusions?"
What do you want to learn?
[ ] Summoning. While you didn't want to bind anyone to your will, getting information from a minor faery could be useful.
[ ] Creating the elements. Being able to make fire or water in an instant could be helpful.
[ ] Potions. Prepared ahead of time, potions could be really helpful.
