Battle off Gotland and the Ambush off Christianso
My back has finally started to feel better. However, my plans to get this finished up before the release of Rule the Waves 3 have been thoroughly dashed. Do not worry, though, I intend to get this finished up before I move over to the new game. Hopefully, Steam increases the modability of the game, as I would like to play all the way up to 1975 with nothing more than big guns.
Anyway, on with the show!
Next month brings two separate operations.
A Medium sized cruiser operation off Gotland. I know I beat up their battlecruisers, but I doubt they got four more into the water this quickly. But it's also an unexpected battle, so.
Unexpected indeed. The enemy is close! Combat speed!
I bring my battlecruisers to close the range towards the enemy force, as I send the scout group to harry the enemy flanks.
To my surprise, the enemy fleet, rather than the Russian Battlecruisers, are a pair of two pre-dreadnaughts. Moltke and Goeben are faster, so I should be able to run them down. While their armor isn't as thick as our battleships, but it's still enough, as the pre-dreads are using older weaponary.
The escort fleet, a light cruiser, and two destroyers break off as the Russian Predreads keep taking a pounding from the guns of my warships, though their turret layout prevents them from bringing all of their guns to bear.
Suddenly, as if from nowhere, three Russian battlecruisers emerge from the north.
An absolute chase begins, with me trying to hold out with my ship until nightfall.
However, I hold out until nightfall, slipping away in the darkness. However, neither side managed to sink anything.
But it's still a fairly major battle.
This one is a bit close to home waters. Onwards, to victory!
A fairly similar task group. Two battle cruisers make up the core of my fleet.
It doesn't take long to find the Russian formation, of which I manage to catch them with their pants down. It's the same task group as well. Maybe this time, we're the ones committing the Ambush?
However, I'm still outnumbered. I'm hoping the previous engagement has worn them down somewhat. But based on those three-to-one gunnery hits, my sailors are much more skilled than their Russian opponents.
One of the Russian Battlecruisers falls out of line, as the Russians begin to turn and flee.
I decide to keep in pursuit of the surviving enemy forces, hammering away at their battlecruiser force, now that the fight is a 2-2 engagment.
However, my ships are accumulating damage at a decent clip, allowing the Russian to pull away, so I go back to make sure the Russian Battlecruiser is sunk.
The results are strongly in my favor. Hell, I might have been able to sink another one of Russia's very limited Battlecruiser forces.
