Is it funny that I've never actually joined one of these quests until now? It's one of those things that's so popular you can't help but wonder why it doesn't have a subforum yet, but I've always felt strangely repelled by most entries. Nevertheless, here I am now.
((OOC: This is mostly based on my reaction to Worm quests.))

03 | Fighting your Friends.
With just a picture in your head, you were able to make your 'sky-iron' Treasure swirl around you until it took the form of a cross-guarded blade in your hand. Breath aura flaring around you, you sprang forward to slash at Korekiyo as he was still recovering. Your fellow dragon-slayer gulped as he saw your sword right upon him, and raised the oversized, carved bow that was his own Treasure as a makeshift shield.

Your star-fire aura grew brighter as you tried to grind your sword down through his bow, his own Toxic breath aura dimming in comparison. As your spark-sending blade was about to snap the bow in two, a twitching Korekiyo ducked down and re-positioned the bow slightly upwards. This ended with you leaning forward on the hilt, which from how fast you were charging launched you all the way over until you came crashing down into the audience stands.

"And we have a winner! ...By out-of-bounds default" the phantom announcer's voice croaked out.

"Huh, wait what happened- I win? Hey, I won!" Korekiyo said as he opened his eyes and stood up from crouching on the arena floor, finally having something to smile about for once.

"Yeah, only through technicality" Okyoito could be heard softly snarling from the entrance.

After a cough or two, you stood up out of the broken seats you'd been flung into and dusted yourself off. Maybe you'd gotten carried away and had used too much force back there, but in your defence it wasn't like Korekiyo really had any idea what he was doing back there, the thought of facing that dragon again in any way would've seriously spooked him.

As you flapped your wings down back into the arena, Korekiyo came running over to you and asked "Hey, you not too hurt there? W-what I mean is, sorry about that...".

"Ha, I'm fine, honestly!" you gave a now-fanged grin right back at him, stopping almost from sticking your tongue out.

"Well if you say you're fine... in that case, looks like I'm up next!" a smiling Tami came running over to take you by the arm. You decided to use your dragon flight to speed ahead of her into the ring, since she hadn't transformed yet.

"Hey no fair, wait for me!" Tami piped up as she scrambled into the ring. Staring straight at you, here eyes glowed a near-golden as she gave out a deep and rumbling growl. "Henshin: Benzaiten!".

With those words, an outburst of raging water flaring blue and white sprayed up around Tami. She then grew cloud-like wings, white scales with flecks of dark green and a long, silvery-white ponytail. In her hands there materialised a large biwa lute, covered with dark green and black dragon-like scales and with five strings of throbbing luminescence.

"Ancalamence, hear my song!" she roared out, and after rapidly finger-picking and chainsaw-strumming her lute, Tami-Benzaiten started to 'sing' in a series of high-pitched, searing screams, any lyric unintelligible to mortal ears.

The soundwaves she generated alone were almost enough to blow you straight back out of the ring again, which forced you to drag your claws right into the ground to avoid being disqualified through 'technicality' again.
As you silently cursed not being able to switch back to a more familiar dragon fusion, due to this being a training session for your Ancalamence form, you almost didn't notice until too late the looming stalactites above you that her scream had knocked down.

Not content to be a deer in the headlights, your held a clawed right hand aloft and shot two meteors bolts straight up that blasted two of the stalactites into little but specks of gravel. The remaining stalactite was close enough that you were able to split it vertically in two by brandishing your sword at it, a single silver spark from your blade enough a pierce a line right through it.

But Tami promptly followed up her attack by letting loose a deep, rumbling twang that sent a sonic blast down into the earth, and suddenly the whole floor was trembling. Before you could react you found falling straight down into a fissure, and while being fused with a dragon you were able to simply fly up out of there, the moment you made it back up to the top of the crack, Tami swiftly pounced at you from the side and pinned your wings and legs down with her claws and tail.

Your tried calling another meteor down onto Tami to get her off of you, but she quickly looked up at it and made it shatter with another of her sonic screams, her own wings shielding her from most of its rubble.
Finally you stopped struggling, sighed and proclaimed "Alright Tami, you win~".

At those words, your classmate and jumped up, gave a mock punch to the air and beamed broadly, though she at least was courteous enough to crouch down and offer you a hand for getting back on your feet. She then briefly hugged you, though as you personally didn't think of it if it was meant as some form of apology, you just turned a mild red and feebly grumbled in return.

You did quickly glance over at Hatsue then, your stomach shaking at what she might think of your poor performance just then. It eased your mind to notice that if anything the expression of your Princess' face was just one of relief, but still you couldn't help but twitch at the thought of her possibly getting disappointed at you.

After a bit of time spent recuperating sitting down on one of the arena's old stone benches, you sprang up and announced to everyone "Okay, all rested up. So come on, who's next, huh?". You gave a few quick jabs to try showing this.

"Uh, it's okay, pretty sure we've tested Ancala's powers enough as it is- hey, oof!" Korekiyo tried to say before Okyoito simply pushed him out of his way.

"Is that so? Right then," Okyoito gave a razor-thin grin and rubbed his fists together, before he whispered to himself "I'll show everyone who should've been bestowed with Ancalamence's power all along". Off to his side, Hatsue could only give a suppressed sigh.

As you went back into the heart of the arena, your opponent Okyoito gave a low mutter of "Henshin: Pitahaya" as twisting roots criss-crossed him and left him transformed into a human cactus. Sharp spikes grew out from every inch of his skin, with said skin itself having turned blood red in colour, with an acidic liquid oozing from any pores.

He plunged his roots into the ground, likely trying to anchor himself from getting knocked out of the ring and to absorb nutrients. "Spike Gatling!" he then gave a cry that fired off a maelstrom of spikes your way, but you simply responded by summoning another meteor, to act as a shield this time along with your wings.

Most of his spikes now having crashed into but not cracked your meteor, you then bowled the meteor along the ground. Since Okyoito-Pitahaya's roots had the effect of anchoring him in place, he had no time to retract before your meteor crashed right into him and knocked him flat.
"Strike!" you then laughed, your beaten opponent's rock-rolled, uprooted self looking none too amused by your remark. He couldn't even be bothered to dignify it with a response.

Okay, so to complete this little power-testing of yours, the only opponent you had left was, you gulped, Hatsue-sama. As a Princess and your Club's Leader, her dragon-powers were strong and varied, even you didn't know how many fusions were at her disposal. Plus, even though this was just a training session to get up to speed, could you still possibly raise your blade against Hatsue?

[ ] Eh, just fight her like you normally would, act like everything's normal. She might appreciate that, you think.
[ ] You'll have to be on your guard, taking no risks. After all, you just lost to Tami and even Korekiyo.
[ ] Attack her lightning-speed in hope of just getting this over with as quickly as possible.
[ ] Withdraw. You're sure you've tested Ancalamence's powers enough, now let's head after those Starfallen!
[ ] Withdraw. You should really be getting home for tonight, dragon-slayers need their rest after all.
[ ] Write-in.

So, from what I'm picking up from the story, we certainly... care a lot about Hatsue. (Am curious if this is a more subtextual thing in the show? I assume it is, that's usually how this goes.) So I think maybe we should be careful regarding what we pick here?

I guess the issue is exactly what would make her happiest, and I think what would make her happiest is us taking this seriously and treating her with respect, which I would think means not really fighting her in any special way. And I don't think she'd be a fan of us suddenly backing out either. So that leaves just fighting regularly or being on our guard, and I think that kinda comes down to how much we want to win- do we want to prove ourselves to Hatsue and take this really seriously, or just have a good fight, come what may?

Overall, from what I can tell, we have proven ourselves pretty effectively in the past, and so don't really have that much to prove, and I'm not sure our character really suffers from an inferiority complex or anything? So I would just fight regular style and see how things go.

[X] Eh, just fight her like you normally would, act like everything's normal. She might appreciate that, you think.

Do I really need to keep harping on why we should go after the Starfallen now?

If anything, it's way more blatant in the show, what with Kuniko mainly being a gag side-character there.

04 | The Starfallen.
Okay, no pressure. Just act like everything's normal, you thought as you breathed deep, shuddering at your upcoming fight.

With her usual grace, Hatsue stepped into the ring and bowed, even though you were one of her 'sub-ordinates' you could say but it seemed out of habit. Having to hide your blushing from her, you bowed in return so deeply that you almost lost your balance.
"I may be this club's leader, but please Kuniko, I implore you to face me as your equal" Hatsue then said, confirming your thoughts. Palace life would make one feel pretty distant from everyone, after all, being the common motive for princesses in movies.

"O-of course, Hatsue-san" You responded in a piping tone as you tried to look natural, even as you were shivering all over.

"Henshin!" she called out in a much more forceful tone than she usually spoke in, as clouds of steam began to shroud her. Unlike you and the others would, she didn't add which dragon she was fusing with this time, as well, she was the dragon in this case.
The steam burst parted, revealing herself to be covered in scales blue like the sea, darker blue wings that looked like tidal waves, and a shining pink-white pearl in the centre of a silver tiara.

Like a storm she came upon you, brandishing a golden naginata with a blade of jade in her claws, and proclaimed "Tsunami-no-Ken". With a flap of your wings you stepped back from her strike, but though you'd dodged the naginata itself, you were still hit right between your eyes by a crashing wave her naginata slash had sprayed forth.

The impact of the wave had sent you crashing down onto the cold stone arena floor. As your shaking self strained to get back up, you thought of even calling those meteors forth, something you could barely imagine doing to Hatsue before. But the strength she'd just shown you convinced you that your Princess was more than strong enough to take them, in fact you then blamed yourself for doubting her power in the first place.

"Meteor Pulse!" You roared out to send those shooting stars falling down on top of her. But Hatsue, her imperial gaze unflinching as ever, simply raised a scaled hand at what would be your strongest move.

"Ryu Maki" She made a series of water spouts erupt from the earth, which deflected a good chunk of your meteors. For which ones she wasn't able to hit, she responded with "Jikan no Nagare". With a wave of her hand, the meteors speeding at her suddenly slowed to a crawl, in fact you felt your body starting to feel a lot more sluggish, far slower than normal. Hatsue however was moving as quick and elegantly as ever, as she flew up and sliced in two any remaining meteors.

Before you could react though, she'd already leaped down and placed her blade near your neck. Your eyes closed in shock, you cried out "Okay, you win! You win!" as draconian beads of sweat covered your forehead. Well, at least one upside here was that, even beaten, you couldn't help but feel honoured that Hatsue deemed you worthy enough to use some of her strongest techniques against you, at least for her default transformation.

A smiling Hatsue promptly lifted her blade and transformed back into her regular 'human' self. "I believe this concludes the examination of your newfound powers," she stated "It seems indeed that we have truly advanced beyond Ancalamence, as we triumphed over you three out of four times. Either that, or..." her voice dropped.

"Technically, her loss against Korekiyo was more due to dumb luck on his part" a muttering Okyoito had to interject.

"Or you could be letting Ancalamence's powers go to your head" Tami had to speak up "Remember, the guy was so hard to put down not just 'cause of his fancy meteors, he had all those minions and artifacts backing him up. Hate to be so blunt, Kuniko, but you of all people should know that".

"Ah, right" you stammered out, biting your lower lip as you did "Um, sorry, didn't mean to disappoint any of you guys, ah, you most of all Hatsue-san!" you shuddered and bowed again "I-I do promise, for the club's sake, that I'll be more careful in the future".

"Hey, I still thought you were kinda cool out there" Korekiyo tried to say from the back.

* * *
Now that afternoon had passed to night, your club had sailed off in its Airship across the moonlit sea to the desolate, volcanic island where, having been after the Ash Runes at the time, you had instead first stumbled upon a 'Starfallen'. The huge and clunking operated machine had claimed to be a 'Knight of the Empire', though which Empire you had no idea, since it didn't resemble any Dragon.

As you tried to hide the airship on the other side of the volcano in an, admittedly feeble, attempt to keep it out of sight of the Starfallen. It was hard in the darkness to make out all seven of the Starfallen that'd now gathered here, silhouetted in the shadows they looked more like ancient statues from here than futuristic mechs.

One was instantly recognisable though, the giant floating skull adorned with a just as large metallic top hat who was the Starfallen you'd encountered before. He was standing next to what appeared to be giant mech with enormous fists, and further off you could a colossal steel bug with blades for arms, a hovering Moai head atop a UFO, a vast oozing pile and a short yet lengthy mech sprawled across the ground.

But the Starfallen that stood out most of all was a towering figure, standing on the top of the volcano and silhouetted against the moon. It possessed a whole forest of multiple arms carrying instruments in each, two thin, long legs tipped with pointed tap shoes, and several large, Saturn-like rings floating behind it.

"StarfalLEN NuMER Fimm..." burst out an amplified voice from the looming, multi-armed mech "You will not, I am gonNA repeat MYself, you will not fail us... again. We HAVE been given this golDEN opportuNIty by... our gloriOUS future empire, so I will not tolERate any... OF you, repeat, any OF you fucking THIS up".
Wow, was something wrong with this guy's voice amplifier, or was that just how all people talked where the Starfallen were from, in the, uh, future apparently?

"Uh yes sir, ah O Lord of the Dance Numer Thrir, sir, won't let that happen again, won't let that happen again" came 'Numer Fimm's' muffled reply from his top-hatted skull mech, his voice you instantly picked up on from before.

"GOOD. Now listen all, this OceaNOVision thing's gonna be comING to this primitive place they... call JApan real soon. Whole world's gonna BE watchin', so it's the... perFECT place FOR us to strike" this Lord of the Dance, Starfallen Numer Thrir (even though he clearly seemed to be Number One around here) announced his evil plan.

Even though you might be able to pull off an ambush against them, there's no way you could ever take all seven of these guys on, you knew that from your fight with just one Starfallen alone. You had to come up with something...

[ ] Aim for their leader, try to knock him into the volcano.
[ ] Sneak around behind these guys and try to sabotage any vital points of their's you can find.
[ ] Just stay in the shadows, see if they reveal any more about their plans.
[ ] Write-in.

QM's Note: This update took a bit longer than I intended, but hey, better late than never right?

By the way, I'm planning to start up (yet) another Quest, a genre-mixing Shoujo-Ai DateQuest all of things, so I hope that won't cut into the attention I'm giving to this Quest.

So okay, I learned a bit! Definitely don't fuck with Hatsue- that's an important lesson. She's kind of like Usagi I suppose- she's the princess and we want to protect her, but she doheavy lifting if she needs to.

But overall for our gameplan I think we should note what we just learned, and that's that taking things for granted and arrogance are dangerous. Given how we fared against our teammates I really doubt we're up for fighting. Honestly, I think now might be a good time to listen. Sabotage has a high risk of drawing attention to us, and given that they're talking about how Japan is the perfect place for them to strike, it's very likely that the baddies are going to drop some other sweet, sweet intel for us to use. I can see value in the sabotage option, but I think stealth is honestly better here; it's (slightly) less risky and I think almost certainly getting valuable information with minimal risk is the slightly better deal, partially given the fact that we're "try[ing]" to sabotage what we can find indicates that it's very possible we won't know how to sabotage it, or where the things we'd sabotage actually are. Which just makes a risky prospect riskier.

I agree with this, and Broken Base's assessment. I never really sussed out how Starfallen tech worked in the series, though I think there are some really good theories floating around? Someone get me a quote on this, but I don't think we ever got word of god about most of it, nobody ever felt it important enough to clarify for the most part (like the Arc as a whole, amIright, heh). But yeah, even if we know OOC what would happen without us sticking out noses in (discounting our change in protag, anyway), there's enough room for changes in the course of events (and also different interpretations of how the tech works) that I don't really want to be relying on OOC fanon intel just yet.
