Do Star Trek-esque Teleporters kill people?

I mean, body dying and consciousness living on in a different location is pretty much death as quite a lot of people understand it.
It's just that in Star Trek, that different location is a bit more accessible without dying first.

Sounds more like Dragonball verse, where Goku could just teleport back to Earth from the afterlife (provided certain conditions were met).
