So, your plan won but I'm afaird I don't really know what you meant by this

'in times of war some things might have been overlook or caught in the cross fire like the tribes, neutral towns/settlements or wanderers and drifters in between'

What exactly do you want Ezotl's avatar to do?

Um maybe help people caught in the crossfire and/or neutral kingdoms

I imagine the plan is to be a supportive group for those unjustly caught up in the war.
We're about to farm believers thanks to this war. We should do more.

Alright, I guess I'll just go with what Anmesiac and Whenyouseeyou said.

@Arbitbit39 sorry if that is not what you meant, but I can't wait for you to reply because I gotta write this chapter.

Ezotl could already feel hundreds of streams of worship flowing into him. It was from the soldiers of Vale. Micheal and the others were doing a valiant job of spreading the religion and the gift of aura to others. In less than a month already hundreds had converted. Truly, it was desperate people that fell back on religion. In the harsh world of war, who wouldn't want to be comforted by the idea of an afterlife, that they wouldn't cease should they die in war. Who wouldn't look at the miracle of aura and take that as proof of godhood? The religion was doing far, far better with soldiers than even Ezotl had expected.

His prophet and avatar had basically completely converted the people of Isten, thus fulfilling their purpose there.

For a moment Ezotl considered what to do next. His influence over the people of Vale was slowly growing, bit by bit. That said, having his Prophet Harold come to Vale might help him speed up the process.

At the same time, he sent his first avatar out into the wilds of Vale. The war was starting to pick up and all around the nation people were being displaced and caught in the crossfire. Mistral and Mantle were steadily taking ground on the northeast of Sanus. Considering Vale had been attempting to colonize the area, it had a disproportionately large number of people who now had to flee west into the Vale proper. However, the trip would be fraught with dangers. Starvation, Grimm and the elements.

His avatar could aid those people and attempt to convert them to Animism.

Harold walked along the dirt road to Vale. A small group of Ezolites from Isten had come with him to aid him in serving their God. Harold could vaguely sense his God in the north, a tingling on the back of his neck. Sometimes it was hard to interpret the will of his God. His orders came in vague messages, feelings, or fleeting dreams in the night. However, it couldn't have been more clear this time. Harold was to come to Vale.

He would admit a bit of excitement at his orders. Harold had been raised out in the outskirts of the nation, far from the metropolis of the City. He was very curious as to what it would look like.

However, despite his expectations, the sight still astounded him. A massive monument of steel and rock. Huge towers reached out into the sky, thousands of houses stretching as far as the eye could see. This was the city of Vale, one of the four hearts of humanity, the only cities that had stood the test of time.

"Come, brothers. Our Lord awaits us," Harold said.

He could feel the beckoning of his lord, growing closer as they entered the city. Harold began to walk through the city, his followers close behind. Eventually, they reached their destination. Standing in a small, out of the way alley was their god.

Harold fell to his knees, his four followers doing the same. Ezotl waved his hand and they stood up.

"You've come," the god said, smiling gently.

Harold nodded.

"Of course my lord. We would never disobey you!" he exclaimed.

Their god, Ezotl nodded pleased.

"Good. Harold, I have a task for you and the others," Ezotl said.

Harold nodded eagerly.

"We are honoured to serve you, my lord," he said.

"Very well. Here is your task. You must preach to the people of Vale, spearing to them the message of your lord. Many will doubt you and the message, but you must not be angered. They are simply uneducated, not malicious," Ezotl said.

"Your wish is our command, my lord. We accomplish this task with haste," Harold said.

Ezotl nodded, his form slowly fading away from sight. However, Harold knew he was still there, his divine soul encompassing the city.

"Time to do God's work!"

Interlude: General Gelé

General Gelé sat in his office, sighing to himself. When he had been put in charge of the vanguard, he had been incredibly pleased. Finally a chance to gain glory and power! It had started off great, the well-oiled machine of the Mantle army delivering crushing defeat after crushing defeat to the untrained, undermanned peasants of Vale. However, as time passed the tides slowly began to turn.

Recently Vale had begun to strike back, somehow sneaking massive forces behind enemy lines, burning resources, poisoning wells and disrupting the supply lines. Not only that, but spies in Vale had begun to give increasingly alarming reports of new technology underway. One report on a new weapon called a 'Railgun' left him specifically terrified. How had Vale, a backwards, technologically primitive nation of hippies suddenly begun to pour out weapons of such high quality?

Slowly the joy of his assignment had begun to turn into a deep-seated frustration and anger. His advancement had slown and the higher-ups were getting angry. It wasn't his fault! If Vale fought them head to head they would be crushed, yet they hid away in the forests like cowards, delivering deadly ambushes and traps.

'How do you fight an enemy you can't see?'

To add insult to injury, his stocks in Lilton Inc had lost almost all of their value due to some new revolutionary car engine in Vale rendering them obsolete, causing him to lose hundreds of thousands of Lien! If he didn't turn this around soon he would be at risk of going bankrupt!

The General pulled on a chain and a bell rang. The door to his office opened and a small Faunus woman walked in.

"Go get me some coffee!" he shouted. "And make it black!"

The Faunus nodded meekly and ran off to fetch his refreshments while he began to plot. Perhaps he could steal some of the new Valean weapons to use against them? General Gelé sighed again. This was going nowhere.

The Faunus walked in holding a tray with a steaming mug on it. She placed the mug in front of General Gelé who sniffed it for a second.

General Gelé stood up and punched the woman in the face, her petite body falling to the floor clutching her broken nose.

"I ordered coffee? What is this? Did you get me fucking tea? Leave it to a subhuman to mess up such a basic order!" raged the General.

'I've had been having such bad day and the stupid bitch couldn't even get me a fucking coffee properly?'

General Gelé reached into his desk, pulling out a black plastic whip. Perpahs a lesson would help teach the Faunus to get his order right next time.

Who knows? Maybe taking his mind off the war would help him solve the problem. He had read on Bluenet that the mind came up with the best solutions while distracted.

Extol walked through the snow, holding his hand above his head. He was currently in the north of Sanus, wading through the thick snow. Frigid winds whipped him across the face. A normal human would freeze to death under such conditions. However, the temperature did not bother Exotl at all. He was not a body of flesh and blood, rather he was a construct of aura, a shell of power to contain a fragment of the divine soul of Ezotl.

Exotl was searching through the snow swept landscape of north-eastern Sanus, searching for refugees of the war. He could feel a gathering of souls lying just a kilometre overhead. They were not moving, likely being stuck or trapped.

Exotl quickened his pace, his form practically gliding through the snow as he ran. Exotl began to near the group of souls and located his target. A group of refugees were trapped in the middle of a valley, an avalanche having blocked the way forward or back.

Exotl waived up to the wall of snow and ice that blocked the group and punched, his fist tearing the snow open. Fire burst out of his palm as he ignited a crystal of fire dust. The snow and ice began to melt and open up, illuminating the area.

Standing a few dozen metres away from him was a group of thirty people. They were dressed in thick inter clothing, a small cooking fire burning next to them. The moment they saw Exotl they all stood up in shock.

"We're saved!" one of them, a little boy no older than nine.

One of the adults looked at him suspiciously.

"Who are you," he asked warily. "How did you know we were here?"

"My name is Exotl. I knew you were here because my God instructed me to save you,' Exotl said.

That wasn't strictly true, because Exotl was merely an extension of Ezotl, rather than a worshipper, but the people would be a lot less likely to believe him if he claimed to be a god.

"Your god? You expect us to believe that?" the adult man asked, still wary.

Exotl shrugged.

"Believe whatever you want. The fact doesn't change that I'm here to help," Exotl said.

The man still eyed him warily but relaxed slightly.

"If you follow me, there's a temple, not a few kilometres from here. We can spend the night there," Exotl said.

He turned around and began to walk at a sedate pace, the refugees walking behind him unsurely.

Ezotl brought the refugees through the snowy fields and up a tall, rocky hill. At the top stood an old, broken-down temple. Presumably, it had been built hundreds of years ago by some group but had long since been abandoned. Nevertheless, it was the closest building in the area so it would have to make do for the night.

"We'll stay here until the snow lets up," Exotl said.

"What about food and water?" the man asked. Obviously, he was the de facto head of this group of refugees.

"We can melt and purify snow for water and there are plenty of rabbits and deer in the forest nearby that we can hunt," Ezotl replied.

Normally it wouldn't be feasible to hunt in such thick snow, but aura could accomplish many miraculous things.

"Alright then, let's stay here for now," the man said. "Sorry for being rude earlier. It's just with all the fighting going on, you can never be too wary. My name is Bai Xiao Long, a refugee from MIstral settlement. This is my family, as well as some others we picked up along the way" he said, pointing to the roughly thirty people.

"No problem, I'm not offended. Might I ask why you decided to flee to Vale instead of heading back to Mistral?" Exotl asked curiously.

"Many reasons," Bai Xiao Long said with a grimace. "First of all, we would have to fly across the sea to get back to Mistral, which would be very dangerous, and second of all, life in Mistral is horrible. We can't express emotions publicly or we'll be executed, and I don't believe in the slave labour that Mistral is doing. We always hear stories about how free and equal Vale is, so I decided to emigrate here."

"Most of those stories are propaganda, you know," Exotl warned. "That said, Vale is a lot better to live in than Mistral."

Vale had spent lots of time, money and effort to paint itself a picture as a land of freedom and equality, and it was true, to an extent, but not to the level many foreigners thought. There was a Monarchy and an Aristocracy, and though famous were not enslaved, they still didn't have the same freedoms as humans. In truth, Vacuo was probably the most equal of all the nations. No one had time to be racist when everyone was starving after all.

"I had feared it would be like that, but anything is better than Mistral. My brother in law was publicly executed for being a painter! Meanwhile, in the capital, the lords live in lavish luxury and make as much art as they want!" Bai Xiao Long said, sighing.

"I'm sorry for your loss," Exotl said, patting Bai's back. "He's in a better place now."

"A better place? What do you mean? He's dead," Bai said.

"Ah, sorry. In Animism, we believe that after death, all righteous souls return to Avalon under the watchful gaze of our god," Exotl explained.

"Must be nice believing in something like that, huh," muttered Bai. "So if you die, you just go to some other world and live there?"

"It's not just another world, my friend. Avalon is a paradise. No Grimm, as much food and water as you could eat. The eternal life of bliss," Exotl explained.

Bai nodded tiredly, but Exotl could see the seeds of faith being sown in him. To a mourning person, faith was the greatest comfort. It was a comforting thought, to imagine that all of your loved ones would be there, waiting for you, not gone forever into the cold abyss of death.

It took a few days for the snow to let up enough that movement was feasible. While they waited, Exotl, Bai Xiao Long and the other refugees often chatted about Animism and it's teaching. Exotl could see them warming up to the idea. The best place to convert someone was in an isolated environment.

Once the snowstorm let up, Exotl led the group down the mountain. He had plans to set up his own stronghold, one outside Vale. Hopefully, it would become the first pillar of his religion. However, it had to be set up in better conditions than the snowy north. For a settlement to survive, it would need access to running water, food, resources and protection from the Grimm.

Exotl had found the perfect place, a valley surrounded by mountains that formed natural walls. It was near several dust and metal deposits and had access to a river. He slowly leads the group there, taking small detours along the way to pick up stragglers and other refugees. By the time they arrived, the size of the group was almost seventy people. Many of them were children, mothers or the elderly, which left around forty people who could do labour.

Once they arrived at the mountain valley, Exotl and the refugees immediately set to work, building temporary housing, gathering resources and scouting the land. It would be years before a full and ready settlement was complete, but it was excellent progress.

Exotl set aside twenty of the labourers and many of the older children to begin training as soldiers. He awoke their aura and instructed them on how to use simple weaponry. New martial arts and weapon techniques were also a part of innovation, so Exotl didn't have to try very hard to begin teaching them.

However, despite its defences, the stronghold was not finished and the constant attacks from the Grimm were starting to become close calls with death. What the stronghold needed was a skilled military tactician, someone who could run a stronghold like this. It was time for Exotl to gain another champion.

The power of Ezotl reached across the whole of Vale, ripples of divine power invisible to the eye. Ezotl quickly began to narrow down his search, cutting out those too old or crippled or those whose moral character did not fit his views. Eventually, Ezotl had narrowed it down to just three candidates.

The first one was a young adult man named Charles Arc. He was from a family of nobles and huntsmen and thus had lots of experience with statesmanship and military tactics. He was on his way to Vale to join the army and was currently in south-west Vale.

The second one was a young teen huntsman named Peter Port, who had recently become an official huntsman. He had less experience with grand strategy but had more on the ground skill and experience.

The final candidate was a Mistralian defector who was in hiding in Vale by the name of Johnathon Helena. He had previously been field commander and had lots of experience with military tactics.

Micheal and his comrades stood around a bonfire cheering and whooping. They had just taken dack a village that had been ovverun by Mistralian and Mantalean soldiers. It was an important foothold due to it's access to the sea.

"To victory!" shouted one soldier, taking a swig of looted Mantalean vodka.

"No, to Ezotl!" another soldier shouted. "For protecting us and bringing victory to us and defeat to the enemies! To the sword and shield of the army!"

As more and more people had begun to convert to Animism in the military, Exotl could feel a new aspect of himself begin to be born. Different from the benevolent inventor that the villagers of Isten and Vale worshipped, this new aspect was of war and battle, a patron of soldiers. It was a second face, a mantle of new power. The aspect of War was being inland into the very essence of Ezotl.

Across a thousand bloody battles, I hear your calls. I will be the shield that deflects arrows and the guide that carries you to the afterlife.

Now, considering that Mistral is a stand-in for Asia and that Xiao Long is a Chinese name, it makes sense to me that the Xiao Long family would be from Mistral. Mistral colonized the northeast part of Sanus, at the same time as Vale which sparked the great war, so it is perfectly feasible that the original Xiao Long's fled by land further into Vale instead of taking the more difficult sea route back to Mistral. If there is any canon info I am missing, feel free to let me know and I will edit it.

Innovation is already helping out with the war effort. War will be useless, maybe even counterproductive, once the fighting is over.

War isn't useless and you are thinking about a war of humans.
For example, Humans and Faunas are warring against the Grimm.
Or, we could say that humans war against the elements of Nature. Like how Atlas utilized Fire Dust and technology to fight against their snowy environment.

Plus, not all wars are inherently bad. Lost lives and ruined homes are horrible, but it can also lead a greater civilization or better home.
