Divergent Codex: The Revised History of the First Contact War (Mass Effect)

...but we aren't slowly getting rid of it? We've only voted for a single option that reduces the DP debt so far (and it was only by 2). The rest has come from omakes, which I already explained probably won't be viable long-(or short-)term.
I mean, that is what you think. I don't really agree, especially with people willing to do so lol. I think you vastly underestimate people. And I already said before I was willing to take another 2 gain.

I'm not even talking about people's willingness to write omakes, I'm saying that if we try to trivialize the mechanic the QM made to balance things, then they're probably going to end up re-balancing things to compensate. They could limit the DP reward to just 2 omakes per update, and that by itself would snap the debt back into immediate relevance.

If that is done, that that is done. But it hasn't happened yet. But even with that, I do stand by what I have said. The gain 5 here is not worth it, I would rather take the gain 2 or gain 0. Then even touch the gain 5.

We just got 2 omakes thus turn that will grant us roughly the same amount of DP that we get from choosing the crater...

I think it is perfectly feasible to chip away the debt via omakes, and we are far away from the point that the QM is going to cut down omakes binus (we are getting around 2 omakes per turn, we are not breaking the game balance anytime soon)

yeah this isn't like Good Seed Quest or some other Riot quests that I know that make use of it in major ways. We are on the slow but normal-ish two omakes per update so fa.r

I mean we still have like 11 hours or so until the vote closes so we may get one or two extra omakes, but no one is beaking the game system anytime soon...

NASApunk is such a cool aesthetic that we haven't really seen in many sci-fi quests; it'll make the expansion this version of humanity went through a lot more impressive, and it encapsulates the "human spirit" in a way that isn't obnoxiously "Humanity! F- Yeah!" Humanity will be technologically behind compared to the other species, but that won't be the end of the world, and it adds a neat wrinkle in humanity's logistics. Do we stick with combustion guns? Eezo is needed for Relay travel, but otherwise how does humanity adapt their ships? How quickly are colonies made self-sufficient, when they need to be able to not rely on the relatively slow engines of their ships?

It's just a more interesting to me to see what humanity does with more time but less Eezo. I don't particularly mind them fumbling or not.

This makes for a more interesting story.

And how that is going to work out when we are facing a polity that is known for pillaging and slaving when you have a significant technological advantage? That has always worked sooo well for the low-tech guys in our world...

Ingenuity and innovation doesn't die if we lack eezo tech, people find workarounds for problems. We might see some way more interesting technological developments than the standard pattern of progress in the ME universe if we go with Ruined Crater.

Dude, we are not going to get Halo tech, stop with the copium...
Dude, you're the only one talking about Halo tech. Humanity isn't going to replace eezo tech, but they will adapt to not having a lot of it. Ships used for defense fleets might just not have eezo at all so they can be made a bit bigger (no shields, but this version of humanity will still have nuke torpedoes), colonies will be much more self-sufficient so less eezo is needed for supply ships, etc. Technology isn't going to be better than the Citadel species, but that doesn't mean innovation just stops. Humanity invented medigel, and that doesn't use eezo.

Huh? I've never mentioned anything about Halo tech, I don't really understand what you're trying to argue here?
That we are not going to get warp travel, plasma guns, advanced super soldier programs, or any other of the things straight up from HALO that many Mass Effect fanfics give mankind when the don't have Eezo tech...

What we are going to get is being the technologically inferior side in a war and like just like in both Gulf Wars, the Opium Wars, or the Six-Day War, our military is going to get shredded... Which would be bad enough with the Turians, but with fucking Batarians we are going to see many colonies raided and millions of our people enslaved, just to get 5 DP points, which is roughly what we get from a couple of omakes

It's been said before but an option that automatically causes us to loose isn't going to turn up only 5 points in exchange.

[X] …a ruined crater. (+5 DP)

I wish to develop megastructures the hard way and eventually build (for whatever purpose) a BIG NASA-PUNK COMPUTER.

Well, the result of the war will surely be decided vía vote... BUT if we want a swift victory, or at least the canon result (victory on the counterattack) it will logically cost us much more DP if we are technologically inferior to the Batarians...
