A Graduation and a Decision

Fuuya

The ⑨ returns! The Epic of Cirno is a go!
Location
The United States of Japan
The sunlight beats down upon the assembled cadets. A trickle of sweat drips down your face as you stand at attention, waiting for the ceremony to begin. Two years of training have led to this moment. Two years ago, you set out from your village with the intent to become a Defender of the Realm. For two years, you've worked day and night to learn your profession. Now, on the day of your graduation ceremony, that hard work was about to come to fruition.

In front of you, a small knight-to-be wobbled in place, the heavy plates of his knight armor making a slight clanking noise as they rattled.

"Seth! Stand still and be quiet, you runt! Don't tell me you're going to screw today up too!" The loud voice of your squad's mentor, Captain Morace, shattered the tense atmosphere.

"Y-Yes sir." Seth replied shakily.

Oh Seth, what am I going to do with you? You restrained yourself from shaking your head at your longtime friend. Even when you were children, he was always a bit clumsy. Still, you wouldn't trade his courage and loyalty for anything. Two years ago, when you told him your plan to leave for the capital, he made the decision almost immediately to join you. Perhaps more ironically, he volunteered for what had to be the most physically-demanding job there is. Knights are strong fighters who are able to withstand almost any physical blow; however, the tradeoff in this case is being forced to wear extremely heavy armor, which poor Seth still struggled a bit in. The fact that he made it through the training could be said to be a small miracle in itself.

You snapped out of your musings as a well-built, handsome man dressed in royal blue armor approached. This is the first time that you've seen him, but he could only be Prince Straug, commander of the armies of Tarin and the sole son of King Astor. He was renowned as being an excellent warrior as well as a loyal and obedient son.

The man ascended the small platform that had been prepared for the event. As he reached the top, Captain Morace's voice boomed out once again. "All hail the Crown Prince of Tarin and your Commander, Prince Straug."

Everybody present immediately got on one knee and bowed their heads. After a few seconds, the prince spoke. "My friends, please rise." He waited with a small smile on his face until this was done. "I would like to congratulate all of you for making it to this point. Through your efforts, our beloved kingdom will be kept safe for many years into the future.

"I understand how difficult the training was. For some of you, if was probably quite a challenge." To your surprise and mild amusement, he was looking at Seth when he said that. "However, if you can use that same effort and perseverance once you begin your work as Defenders of the Realm, there is little for our kingdom to fear."

Well, he certainly seems to know his way around a speech, at least. Still, having your hard work acknowledged is always gratifying. You and Seth did work extremely hard these past few years, after all.

You focus your attention again. "…some of you will do great things for our kingdom. Some of you…" he pauses, looking at you, "...have already done our kingdom a service. Safe to say, we expect great things from all of you."

You struggle to keep the surprise off of your face. He could only be talking about when you saved the life of the ambassador from Gramia shortly after becoming a cadet. The prince was out of the capital at that time, but he heard about that? Did he know your face, despite never meeting?

"…and now that your training is complete, you have one last job to do as cadets. My friends, it is time to go home. You've been away for two long years, not having seen your friends, family, and loved ones. Tomorrow, I want all of you to honor this last duty as soldiers-in-training. It has always been tradition that our cadets return home once their training is complete, returning not as boys but as men. Let your family and friends see the effect of two long years of training. Let them see the pride and self-confidence that you all now have. Show them the faces of Tarin's new Defenders!"

With that, everybody gave a loud cheer. You found yourself cheering along with the friends that you've worked so hard with the last two years. Surprisingly, even Captain Morace had a smile on his face.

The prince waited for the commotion to die down before continuing. "You should be indeed be proud of yourselves, my friends. Return home with that pride in your heart, and once the month is done, return to your new home here in the capital. We'll be waiting for you.

"That all begins tomorrow, however. Today is a day of celebration, a day of accomplishment. Today, you will be well rewarded for your efforts. In recognition of the end of your training, there shall be a feast tonight. There will be all manner of food and drink to be had, enough so that if you wish, you can feast and drink until morning! Enjoy yourselves tonight, my soon-to-be soldiers. I'll see you in a month."

Prince Straug descended from the platform amidst another loud set of cheers. He smiled and waved farewell before walking back into the castle.

"Alright, whelps, calm down," said Captain Morace. The cheers died down almost instantly. "Today is the last day of your training. Do not do anything tonight that will cause me to regret passing you…I promise you, if you make me regret it, I'll sure as hell make you regret it too. For now, meet back up in the mess hall in 0600 hours. Dismissed!"

With smiles on their faces, everybody begins to go their separate ways. Seth comes up to you, panting a bit under the weight of the heavy armor but still smiling. "We're going to have a party!" He said. "For the first time in forever, I can eat all the food I want. I'll get to eat chicken, ham, roast, turkey, lamb…" A bit of drool slipped out of the corner of his mouth as he continued listing off various meats and other foods.

For some reason, you got the strangest image in your head of him diving into a sea of food with a look of ecstasy on his face. You shook your head to clear it, and found he was still happily listing all the food he was going to eat tonight. If you didn't stop him, he was going to be at it all afternoon. "Alright, alright, that's enough, Seth. Instead of talking about all the food you are going to eat tonight and making yourself hungry, let's find something to do in our last day in the capital."

Seth's face reddens a bit. "Haha, yeah, I'm sorry about that. It's been so long since we had good food, after all. I can't help but be excited!"

"I know, but you're making me hungry by going on and on about it," you replied with a smirk. "I'd rather not be hungry for the next six hours, thank you."

Seth nods. "Alright, then what do you want to do? We could walk down by the kitchens and see what they're cooking for our party."

You groan. "I just said I don't want to be hungry. Gah…How about taking a walk around the city? We haven't had much time recently with the final tests, after all."

"Yeah, we could do that," Seth replies. "What about going to a bar?" You raise your eyebrow at him and glare a bit. Is all he thinks about food? He waves his hands in front of him to stave off your glare. He continues, "It wouldn't be a bad idea to relax a bit. Keeping an ear out for rumors and gossip, especially those that might affect us during our journey back home, wouldn't be a bad idea."

"That's...also a good idea," you agree. Hmm, what to do?

What will you do?
[] Check out the kitchens and see how the party preparations are going.
[] Walk around town and see what shows up.
[] Relax in a bar and hopefully catch up on the latest rumors, gossip, and potential travel problems.

More importantly, who are you?
[] Male
-[] Name (Write-in)
[] Female
-[] Name (Write-in)

And finally, your class? You'll be locked in for a long time. This might change in the future, though...if you earn it.
[] A Soldier, the lance-wielding warrior that makes up the bulk of most armies.
[] A Knight, the heavily-armored tank that never dies…except to magic.
[] An Archer, the bow-wielding marksman who takes enemies down from afar.
[] A Myrmidon, the sword-wielders who pride themselves in their high skill and speed.
[] A Mercenary, the balanced sword-wielders that are a bit sturdier than Myrmidons.
[] A Fighter, the axe-wielding warrior that hp tanks hard and hits harder…if they hit.
[] A Mage, the tomb-wielding magic-users that utilize elemental magic to annihilate their foes.

[] A Bride, the overpowered class that….haha, yeah, right.

*Sorry folks, horses are expensive, and the Defenders won't let you take their horses from the capital for this trip. No horses = no Cavalier class availability…unless you want to be "classless" until the tutorial ends…. Go ahead, do it. Your deaths will be swift and your tears plentiful.

Hello everybody, and welcome to my first ever quest! I've been a SV lurker for three months, and was inspired to join the SV community and make my own quest thanks to Kei's epic quest, Stand and Watch Them Fall (if you haven't read it, you should!).

As advertised, this is a Fire Emblem quest. I intend to keep the terms, classes, and atmosphere as similar to the games as possible; specifically, I'll be focusing my attention towards the portable titles (FE, FE:SS, FE:A especially). Ally and enemy stats will draw from those games, with perhaps a few changes on my part to keep things interesting.

Don't worry too much about the ?? in the title yet, but it should be an…interesting storyline twist that will allow me a bit of fun but still keep combat reasonable, fair, and engaging. All will be justified in-quest.

In terms of combat, I'm leaning towards a mix of narrative style (for small skirmishes) and something approaching traditional FE turn-based combat (complete with maps, treasures, goals, etc., though everybody moves at once instead of bit-by-bit). However, I'm curious as to what you, the SV questers, think, and as such, I will be holding a vote in the coming weeks as to how you feel combat should be handled (of course, this will happen before the first combat scenario). The problem with doing everything with FE combat is that it will take a long time to do (which, when paired with daily life, means that a single four or five person battle could take a week to finish). I can do it that way if you'd prefer, as me and my dice are itching to roll.

*On the subject of dice, if I ask for a roll (i.e. perception), then please use the standard SV dice roller, along with the correct dice sides and amounts. For example, if I need three people to roll 1d20 marked Perception, I will take the first three individual perception rolls that are a d20. High rolls are typically best. Failure to comply or blatant cheating will result in appropriate punishments. You have been warned.*

Back to the subject of battles. A completely narrative or even half-and-half battle system will still result in the combat rolls that normally would happen in standard FE, but with more narrative freedom on my end (characters will potentially make their own choices once orders are completed, at least until the next voting phase) and a bit less micromanaging on yours. However, if you make a really, really silly choice (i.e. sending your squishy Cleric into a group of Myrmidons), you won't necessarily have a chance to respond before bad things happen. As said, I promise to be fair, and depending on how merciful I'm feeling, will probably give you ample warning if something seems like a catastrophically bad idea.

A side note, there will eventually be chances to earn experience points and develop other skills outside of combat. Note, however, that while this is the case, it won't allow you to powerlevel a character without them seeing combat. Just like in the games themselves, if you choose to put all your eggs and xp into one basket, you *might* be able to solo the final boss of the campaign; however, you run the risk of your valuable party members that you've grown to know and love being wiped out in the process.

I won't shy away from character death, but I'm more likely to give severe injuries (thus keeping them in the story and able to battle again after a period of time) in most situations. If you choose to goof off or make really bad decisions, however, people will die. The main character dying is a Bad End and will reset the quest to the most reasonable decision point. Other characters dying will not result in a Bad End unless otherwise stated. You have been warned.

On a lighter note, Omake are awesome. I love seeing the world-building that happens in-quest, be it from written Omake or tastefully-created art. If you're willing to put in the time to make an Omake, I'll make it worth your while…once we get out of the tutorial. ;) Higher-quality Omake will result in better rewards. Canon Omake even more so.

Well, that was certainly a lot to go through. Hopefully I made the rules and procedures pretty plain. If you have any questions, concerns, or advice, please feel free to give it. All are appreciated! For now, I hope you enjoy my first attempt at a SV quest. Please relax and enjoy Dimensiva Fines!

Omake Index List:

Omake Points and Gains Explanation:
Omake Points: These valuable resources of character upgrading are only obtained through the QM's acknowledgement of questers making significant contribution to Dimensiva Fines. As the contribution grows in importance, you will receive more and more OP.

OP Gains: The following shall be the current going rate for being granted OP by the QM. This is liable to change should the QM deem it necessary, though it will be made clear as to the reason why if such a change happens.

You will receive:

2 Points for a basic contribution to the quest, such as providing a resource upon request, making a short, funny Omake post (minimum of 500 words), or drawing a low-medium quality picture/finding a picture to represent a character. *Contest Bonuses will double these gains.* *Abusing this tier will eventually cause a temporary OP gain ban and a warning. Further abuse will result in the offender's OP being nullified and a long-term OP gain ban, to be lifted only upon the QM's infinite mercy and a suitable apology.*

4 Points for a valuable contribution to the quest, such as providing a key resource upon request, making a short, canon Omake post (minimum of 500 words), a longer, funny Omake post (minimum of 1500 words), or drawing a high-quality picture for the quest. *Contest Bonuses will double these gains.*

6 Points for an invaluable contribution to the quest, such as a longer, canon Omake post (minimum of 1500 words), though other things may be considered for this tier should it be deemed necessary.

8 Points or More for a Fuuya-level contribution to the quest. This may take various forms, but will only be granted if it is something that is absolutely considered to be worthy of such a reward. In other words, you'll know it when you see it. Should this be the case, you will receive an amount of points OR ANOTHER REWARD that is equivalent to the final result, in the QM's opinion.

*4 OP are set to be added to Leadership at the earliest opportunity*

Character Skills and Explanation:
All skills will be upgradable with Omake Points (OP) unless otherwise stated. However, there are two categories of skills in this quest: Special Skills and Character Skills. Special Skills are special power-ups for Cynthia and Cynthia alone that will make her into even more of an overpowered beast than before (hence the abbreviation for these points, OP). Keep in mind that upgrades will become more and more costly as you rank these abilities up, but they will provide powerful bonuses that will provide Cynthia with unique sets of powers and boosts as the Quest progresses. On the other hand, Character Skills are In-Quest abilities that will rank up automatically as you play through the Quest and use these abilities. If you'd like, you may spend OP to level them up faster. They will rank up faster than Special Skills, but still increase in cost for every purchase.

Cynthia-only Special Skills:
These are powerful abilities that you may choose to purchase with your Omake Points, but you will not be gaining In-Quest experience towards these unlocks, and will have to be completely unlocked through a community effort.

Crit Draw/Arrow 1 (0/20): Receive a static 4% boost to Critical Hit chance for Cynthia. Successive upgrades will increase this by an equivalent amount, but the cost of Omake Points will likewise increase...exponentially.

Mighty Glacier 1 (0/40): Receive 5 HP, 1 Defense, 1 Resistance, and 1 Luck for Cynthia. Successive upgrades will increase this by an equivalent amount, but the cost of Omake Points will likewise increase…exponentially.

Master of Combat 1 (0/40): Receive 1 Attack, 1 Magic, 1 Speed, and 1 Skill for Cynthia. Successive upgrades will increase this by an equivalent amount, but the cost of Omake Points will likewise increase…exponentially.

Attribute Perception Rank A (Mastered): Gives Cynthia the ability (read: OOC knowledge) to somehow perceive enemy stats and held items. The QM will now provide a list at the start of each combat of enemy stats and inventories (when applicable).

Attribute Perception Rank S (0/100): Requires Attribute Perception Rank A to unlock. Gives Cynthia the ability (read: OOC knowledge) to be able to calculate complex percentages such as hit %, potential damage dealt, and Critical Hit chance %, as well as the ability to make informed IC decisions on the fly. This will also result in an increased Awareness of the World around her, awarding a permanent +2 bonus to all Perception rolls.

Cynthia will now perform equally as well (in non-traditional combat situations, aka the Narrative combat system) as if the QM directly controlled her in a FE game, thus making the best possible decisions in terms of survivability, damage, and individual tactics when SV's tactics for the combat round are exhausted or become incompleteable due to changing combat conditions. Without Attribute Perception Rank S, Cynthia will make the best IC decisions she can when forced to, but lacking the overarching view and knowledge of the battlefield will mean that she may or may not lack critical information necessary.

General Character Skills:
These are character abilities available to all units that affect a wide array of situations, from combat to conversations. In most cases, these will unlock and begin to rise as Cynthia (or again, another character) receives experience in the skill, ranking up and automatically unlocking the next rank once capping. In Cynthia's case, you may spend Omake Points to upgrade them, should you wish to.

Tactics Ranks E-S: Each rank will provide an increased IC and/or OOC awareness of the battlefield, depending on whether the battle is Narrative or TACTICS. As your rank increases, Cynthia (and/or an OOC QM post) will provide a better tactical overview of each situation, as well as how she feels the best way to resolve each situation is. At Rank S, you have become a tactical master, able to order your troops with an unparalleled grace and expediency. In addition, Cynthia/Fuuya will be providing a detailed tactical report of the battlefield by using what information is currently available/visible, including a lengthy opinion as to the best way to succeed as each step of the battle evolves.

*Note, battles will all be manageable without ranking up the Tactics skill. As your Tactics rank increases (through IC experiences or Omake Points), the quest's battles will become easier to tactically navigate thanks to better tactical overviews and strategies being given, despite the more difficult maps, enemy strategies, and tier-two units that appear in the mid-late game.

Rank D (6/40): Having fought in enough battles to gain an understanding of basic Tactics, you now are able to provide strategies a step beyond the obvious, though they are still rudimentary and easily crushed by anyone with tactical know-how. You feel that the more you study or experience a variety of situations, however, the more you will continue to grow as a commander. While you are not *quite* confident yet in providing an analysis of the battlefield, you know that time is not too far off.

Leadership Ranks E-S: Each rank will mean that people will be more likely to listen to Cynthia's commands or orders she gives, both off and on the battlefield. As your rank increases, lone wolf personalities and even people who hate Cynthia will begin to pay attention to her words. At Rank S, people will hang on her every word as a commander, willing to give her commands the benefit of the doubt in all but the worst situations.

**Current Rank: E (16/20): As a fledgling commander, only your closest allies are willing to fully listen to your commands, instead choosing to approach each battle or situation as they see fit. Unproven, you are looked upon with curiosity by many, though how they respond is largely based upon the logic of your words and the severity of the situation at hand. As you begin to succeed in battlefield situations and otherwise trying times, others will gradually begin to give your words a modicum of weight.

**4 OP will be added to Leadership at the earliest opportunity**

Of Sweet Words and Silver Tongues Ranks E-S: Each rank will mean that Cynthia's attempts at persuasion and conversations in general have a better chance to succeed. As your rank increases, people will give her suggestions more weight, and she will be able to better navigate conversations with tact and diplomacy. At Rank S, Cynthia will be able to use her charm and wit to turn all but the worst situations to her advantage.

Current Rank: E (9/20): Your attempts at Persuasion are generally met with some manner of amusement. Your words are generally rough, and you have a nasty tendency towards sarcasm or poor word choice. Having realized how valuable being persuasive can be, however, you have vowed to improve yourself, both by studying persuasion techniques as well as attempting to persuade others, bumbling though it may be. As of yet, you do not receive any current bonus for rolls that rely on Persuasion.

Perception of the Truth Ranks E-S: Each rank will provide Cynthia an increased bonus in perceiving when characters are lying or telling half-truths as well as the ability to potentially call them out on such. As your rank increases, she will become able to maneuver liars into logic traps that prove their falsehoods. At Rank S, Cynthia will exude such an aura that all but the best liars are forced to tell the truth in her presence, as her keen insight allows her to perceive almost any and all falsehoods.

Current Rank: E (5/20): While not naïve, you are just beginning to realize that many people lie or tell half-truths on a daily basis. Still able to be easily fooled by all but the worst liars, you have decided to pay more attention to peoples' words and mannerisms during conversations, and are beginning to recognize certain tones of voice to listen for and mannerisms to watch for. As of yet, you do not receive any current bonus for rolls that rely on Perception of the Truth.

To Tell a Lie… Ranks E-S: Each rank will give Cynthia an increased chance to successfully tell a lie or half-truth without her falsehood being detected. As your rank increases, Cynthia will begin to be able to twist the truth in such a way as to make it believable, eventually being able to formulate lies that sound truer than the truth itself. At Rank S, Cynthia will be able to tell a lie that will stand up to all but the most difficult scrutiny…or if enough people provide directly-opposed information.

Current Rank: E (4/20): Having realized the value of being able to tell a falsehood, you are beginning to study ways to craft a more believable lie or half-truth. As of yet, people are still able to generally see right through your falsehoods, and some may even be able to maneuver you into a logic trap. Through studying theory or simply practicing on other people, however, you should be able to improve in leaps and bounds. As of yet, you do not receive any current bonus for rolls that rely on Deception.

Awareness of the World Ranks E-S: Each rank will provide Cynthia with more awareness of her world around her, granting bonuses to perception checks and overall attention to detail. At higher ranks, she will begin to notice the more minute details of her surroundings, especially those that seem wrong or out of place. At Rank S, Cynthia will be able to take in her surroundings at a glance, remembering all but the tiniest of details, and noting all but the most well-hidden irregularities.

Current Rank: D (3/40): You are now able to pick out details from the world around you a bit better. You are able to do so on demand now, though you can't pick out much beyond the obvious without taking a significant amount of time to do so. While still easily fooled by concealment, you are also starting to understand the signs and even sounds of people attempting to be stealthy. With more training, you feel confident that you will be able to rapidly improve. You receive a permanent +1 bonus to all Perception rolls of the world around you.

Stealth Ranks E-S: Each rank will mean that Cynthia is better able to fit in with her surroundings and avoid attracting attention. As your rank increases, Cynthia will be able to use convenient shadows, noises, and objects to move around and avoid detection. At Rank S, she will have gained mastery over using her surroundings to hide, whether that be terrain, objects, noises, or even people themselves, and will also be able to enter stealth in battlefield situations (within limits), forcing enemies to pass a Perception check in order to spot her and attack.

Current Rank: D (17/40): As an Archer, your mentor stressed the importance of remaining unseen by the enemy, as you lack the armor and general fortitude to withstand enemy blows. Thus, you trained until you were finally able to achieve some semblance of control over your surroundings, though it is unlikely you will be able to withstand any particularly rigorous forms of scrutiny. You receive a permanent +1 bonus to all Stealth rolls.

*QM Note, a critical fail on any roll will remain a critical fail even with bonuses; likewise, a critical success will remain a critical success.*

I wondered if people would be interested in playing a soldier for once. Regardless of what class you choose, I guarantee you'll be reasonably powerful.

Also, Seth's rolls...holy crap. For a level 1, he's GOOD. Unfortunately, his size and armor difficulties mean that he can't quite perform up to where he otherwise would be able to. As he gets more and more experience, those penalties will diminish and eventually vanish. :)

The minuses are because poor Seth is currently out of his league due to his small size. He's a small, skinny guy trying to carry around a ton of heavy armor. After two years, he's managed to pull it off, but not without a few penalties. Once he gets more used to it (whether by combat, growing taller somehow, etc.), he'll be able to shrug off those penalties. Keep in mind that his speed is a whopping 7, which for a lvl 1 knight is absolutely huge. Without armor, he can probably keep up or even outdo equally leveled thieves and myrmidons. With his armor struggles, he gets a -3 penalty for now.

Can't wait for rocket knight, then.
If you're familiar with the terror that is "Rocket Knight" Amelia from the same game (FE:SS), you'll love what Seth will likely become. Also, note that the defense value also suffers from a -3 penalty for the same reason, as he hasn't been able to use his armor effectively yet. Knowing how to turn blades away from your armor's gaps and being able to do it are two completely different things.

I'll try solider for once, also what level are we?
We're level one, the same as Seth. I figured that we moved through the trainee stages (ala FE:SS) before finally reaching this point. I should make a note to myself to add experience values and weapon mastery levels to the character sheet once I have time. I literally spent four to five hours this morning hammering the final details of this quest out, lol.

I should mention, as this is a big decision and it is rather late at night for all you friends in the West, I'll be waiting for at least 10-12 more hours before locking. That way, people who are currently sleeping have a chance to vote. I also reserve the right to extend this if necessary/requested.

In other words, take your time and think about what kind of character you want to play as. An all-in melee powerhouse like a Fighter? A skillful assassin-like Myrmidon? Maybe you'd rather laugh as you annihilate foes with flame, lightning, and ice. All of these are viable, and all will be equally fun (though playstyles will certainly differ). Also, gender won't affect ability. So if you'd rather invert the stereotypical male fighter with a female one, go for it.

[X] Walk around town and see what shows up.

[X] Male
-[X] Wein

[X] A Mage, the tomb-wielding magic-users that utilize elemental magic to annihilate their foes.

Too bad Cavs are unavailable since high movement is always nice, so I'll have to go with Mages since I like their utility.

[X] Check out the kitchens and see how the party preparations are going.

[X] Female
-[X] Maria

[X] A Fighter, the axe-wielding warrior that hp tanks hard and hits harder…if they hit.

No option for any of the mounted classes?

:(

[X] Relax in a bar and hopefully catch up on the latest rumors, gossip, and potential travel problems.
[X] Female

[X] An Archer, the bow-wielding marksman who takes enemies down from afar.

I'll probably switch if the OP let's us pick any of the mounted classes, though.

Current class vote tally:

3 Fighters (2 Female, 1 Male)
1 Soldier (Male)
1 Mage (Male)

A bit surprised at how the votes are going, but if people want to go fighter, I'll sure as heck make it happen. Also, I should mention that I'm taking the votes in two parts, first being where you and Seth go (currently at 2 for the kitchens, 2 for the walk, and 1 for the bar), with the second being the gender, name, and class. Note that each location will provide unique opportunities, interactions, and/or information that the other two won't.

There's still plenty of time to vote. I'm currently looking at around 10 more hours, though I'm toying with the idea of extending it depending on how many votes there are by around that time.

If anybody has any questions or opinions they want to share (especially battle system-based), I'll be pretty much here all day.

*Edit, now the bar vote is also at two, and we have a female archer added to the mix. :D

Also, to address the mounted class issue, part of it is logistics and part is how the Kingdom of Tarin is. In this FE setting, Pegasi and Wyverns are rather rare and coveted. Some kingdoms have them, but Tarin is not one of them. While I haven't provided this information in-quest yet, Tarin is a fairly prosperous kingdom that has plenty of plains for farming (in fact, the capital is surrounded by plains), but has a fairly wide-reaching forest about a day's walk to both the south and west of the capital. Pegasi and Wyverns would be useful, but so far Tarin hasn't been able to obtain them...not for lack of trying, mind you.

As for horses, Tarin has a reasonable amount of those. However, horses are still fairly valuable, especially battle-trained ones. You could very well have trained to be a cavalier, but you wouldn't have been given a horse yet due to your trainee status. Once you return to the capital, you'd potentially be able to get a horse, but in this case, most if not all of them are being used for more senior knights (not the class).

This is the main reason that you won't be able to use a horse throughout this tutorial section of the quest (and probably for quite a long time afterwards). Thus, rather than have you be "classless," I instead opted to just cut the option from the list. Besides, with how far you'll be traveling through various forestland to return home, it wouldn't make much sense to have a horse. I apologize for the inconvenience, and promise that you'll get a Cavalier in a reasonable amount of time after the tutorial is completed.

As for becoming a Cavalier...well, for SV, there's been a significant lack of hora-discovery. ;)

I haven't decided how promotion will be handled yet, tbh. I'm seriously considering doing away with the need for a special "promotion item," as it doesn't make near as much realistic sense as being promoted through a ceremony (aka having earned it somehow through deeds) or through amassing enough experience to make the change.

As for becoming a Hero, you'd for sure be able to become either a Hero or Warrior if you went Fighter. I'd toy with letting you become a Berserker, as pirate is way too limiting a class in terms of Berserker access (I love Berserkers, so I might be a bit biased). Each would be a relevant choice, however. I might very well buff the Warrior class a tiny bit, as they fall behind some of the other tier-two classes in terms of what they can do. No decision as of yet, though.

However I decide to do it, a promotion will carry the same weight and sense of importance as in the games themselves. It will be a big decision, as the level cap will still be at 20, and this might very well be a longer quest than in the games. I'm leaning against tier-three promotions, which means you'd be stuck once you promoted Seth into a General or Great Knight (oh, I'm making Sacred Stone class promotions a thing, along with the special skills that come with some of the classes. Praise me :D ). Whether you choose to promote at 10 (or whenever I decide the promotion level is) or wait until max before doing it, it'll be a weighty decision.

The main character will also fall under these constraints... for now.

Oh, I updated the Party Character list with Weapon Mastery (for Seth) and xp values. Yes, your main character's xp is not a typo. For reasons why, look no further than the first post. Increased xp = Faster transition from Trainee class to base class. Lack of actual combat slowed xp growth back to normal levels (especially once you become your base class), but training still managed to put you a bit over Seth. If that event had never happened, you'd also be 0/100.

Hopefully that gives you a clue as to how non-combat xp (aka training) will work as compared to values from actual combat.

Seth is a tank so choosing a ranged class makes sense, and archers are less used than mages, so why not?

Suddenly, the votes took a swing towards Archer! Again, the votes are surprising, but people are making sound tactical choices regardless. Though it would have been amusing to see two knights just wandering around. Joking aside, keep up the votes and questions. I love 'em all!

Currently, we have:
3 Fighter (2 Female, 1 Male)
3 Archer (3 Female)
1 Soldier (Male)
1 Mage (Male)

I can't wait until the suffering begins!
Tempting...

You can still vote for a location, Actan, unless you'd rather abstain. As a reminder, your choices are the bar, the kitchens, or a walk around town.
