Digimon World: Conquest (Digimon Quest)

DW:C Chapter 2 Part 11: Chasing The Horizon
You rub at your newly freed wrists, Mick deftly slicing the ropes at your ankles before motioning for you to stand up.

You're sore all over, Gokuwmon having used you as a punching bag after you asked where the Flying Nimbus was.

"Okay bud, I'll give you two choices. You can either join us and bring down that prick Roman, or we do the one that Lavogaritamon likes." you say, stretching your limbs. God, you go from running around to stuck in a chair and it's like whiplash.

"Fuck you, oohkee!" Gokuwmon spits, literally, in your face.

"Fuck it, dig in Lavogaritamon. You earned it." You say, Bluejay nodding as she follows you back to the others.

"So, what's the play now?" You say, plopping down in the grass with the rest of your friends and allies.

"Well, it's probably best if we handle Old Order now. I have a familiar feeling about that Roman fellow, and a sneaking suspicion as well." Myotismon says, for once without a drink in his hand.

"How the hell are we going to get up there though? Damn place is probably 4 kilometers high!" Mick says, scratching at his head.

"That's where you come in, young lady." Myotismon says, pointing at Liesel.

"Lavogaritamon's Mega form can fly, but it would be far too noticeable, which is why I'm going to let you in on a trick the last leader of Scrap Heaven used." Myotismon says, still uncharacteristically serious.

"That's another thing. None of us have gotten our partners to Mega level yet. How are we supposed to do that?" Bluejay asks, leaning into the now present Lavogaritamon.

"It'll take a while, that's for sure. You'll also have to come to terms with whatever inner demons you happen to have. Only then will your bond with your partners be strong enough to reach Mega level." Myotismon says, perching his chin on his interlaced fingers as he leans forward.

"Okay? How long do you mean when you say 'it'll take a while'?" Liesel says, pitching her voice low to mimic Myotismon's deep bass.

"Normally it takes around 3 months, but for you four? We'll do it in one." Myotismon says, hauling himself to his feet.

"Now, let's get back to the manor, shall we?"

-1 month later-

You're ready for this. You've trained, you've succeeded, and you're ready.

Once upon a time ago we tried to fly
We broke our bones together together

You take your place in the sturdy seat in what you had assumed to be some sort of viewing area, watching as Liesel and Bluejay work away at the consoles in front of the colossal bay windows.

Soon as we remember
Why we'll try to make another lie together forever

You think about the struggle you've gone through. Facing your own demons and triumphing to a whole new level of power.

Set the fire now it's your call
Start it over cause today we have it all

You hear Liesel yell an affirmative as the others take their seats in the massive cockpit, Myotismon standing beside you like some wise advisor.

"Is everything set to go Liesel?" You say as you brace yourself.

"Yup! I'm still stunned by this thing, honestly. Fuckin' technological marvel right here." She says as she comms down to the chamber on the ground floor.

"Trailmon, are you set to go?" She asks.

[AFFIRMATIVE]

"Alright, let's rock and fucking roll!" Mick says, voice full of energy.

"Alright! Start up sequence engage!" Liesel says as the rig begins to shudder.

If one were to look at the scene from an outsider's perspective, like a bird on the wing, it would seem as though the supposed oil rig was falling apart. Warehouses falling away, crates and boxes sliding away, and the rig itself breaking in half at the command center.

This is not the case. The rig shifted, straightened, until it became a powerful eastern dragon shaped battlestation, fallen warehouses revealing colossal anti-air cannons and intimidating missile pods. Then it began to shudder again as its supporting pillars, now revealed to be legs, lifted out of the water one at a time, hovering just above the water.

"Now! Horizon Chaser, launch!" Liesel shouted as she forced the the odd combination of joystick and lever forward, sending the now fully operational battle station up into the air and straight toward Old Order.

Oh we are the ones
Never cared about tomorrow chasing the horizon to be gold

Digimon World: Conquest Chapter 2: END

Chapter 3 Part 1 will come out in about a week. Until then, interludes of our heroes during their month of training.

Interlude 1: Liesel
Liesel sighed as she tromped around the big empty base, Guardromon following behind her rattling off various statistics pertaining to the rig.

"Confronting demons, huh?" She muttered to herself as they entered the apparent bridge of the whole thing.

"What was that, zzt?" Guardromon said, looking up from the spreadsheet projected from his arm.

"Nothing, Guardie. Just me muttering to myself." Liesel said as she inspected the consoles along the walls.

"Liesel, if we are to attain Mega level we must handle your inner turmoil, zzt."

"Fine. My brother died. He was coming home from a double shift at work and took a backroad home. It was dark, and a hunter was driving with his headlights off. He caved the drivers side of Lee's car and killed him at the scene. There, you happy?" She snapped, turning around and glaring at her partner angrily.

"Now, leave me be. I need to get work and I doubt I'll need any help."

"Of course, zzt." Guardomon said, eyes narrowing, before turning and marching out of the room.

As her partner left the room, Liesel sighed in relief.

"Finally, I can get to work. I don't need any help. I can do it on my own." She said, pulling up the hologram schematics of the rig.

She didn't need anyone's help.

The following weeks were busy, and lonely, for Liesel. Guardromon was off doing whatever it was he did, which seemed to be moping around the railyard from the glimpses Liesel had caught of him while whirring past inside Trailmon.

Then it happened. One night, late to the point of early morning, the week before they were due to launch. And Liesel couldn't say she had the rig ready. Or that she and Guardromon had managed to reach Mega. Bluejay had gotten hers first, and no one could mistake the thunderstorm that Oscar's had brought. Hell, it was likely that stupid Mick had gotten his by now too, and here she was with no results to show for either her partner or the supposed battle station.

So she sat there, curled up in the fetal position, crying quietly. She lamented her helplessness. How alone she was. How stupid she was.

She missed her brother. She missed how he tried to coddle her and protect her from everything, no matter how much she told him she didn't need help.

"Please," she sobbed, words catching on tears, "please someone help me."

She heard the heavy stomping of metal feet, likely Guardromon coming to investigate the noise.

But it wasn't Guardromon. It looked like Andromon, but it was taller and sleeker, all black and silver with pauldrons of red and blue on its shoulders.

"A-Andromon?" Liesel guessed, tears still flowing as she shied away from the robotic Digimon's reaching arms.

"HiAndromon now." It said, voice surprisingly human.

Liesel smiled behind her tears, and the android swept her into a hug, carrying its master over to the main console as the sun broke over the horizon.

"Attention all units," she said into the speaker system, "as of right now, full renovation of the Royal Battle Station Horizon Chaser is to begin. All hands on deck people, we fly in a week."

Her smile only grew as the dozens of Guardromon and their squads reported back in the affirmative before busying themselves with the renovations.

She had help.

Interlude 2: Bluejay
Fire and sweat. Those were Bluejay Martin's only thoughts as she dodged the fireballs that flew around her, Garudamon slowly encroaching on her as she twisted and flipped around his attacks. She had shed her deep purple sweatshirt ages ago, leaving her in only her pants and a lilac shirt.

Crouching low, she lunged for Garudamon's exposed torso, a kiai building in her throat only to be batted away by the digimon.

"You need to stop hesitating Bluejay. You told me you hate your indecisiveness and your lack f courage, but what truly hinders you is your hesitation." Garudamon said as Bluejay pulled herself upright, panting heavily.

She was halfway through an apology when the ground beneath them began to crack, the cooled rock beneath them rapidly heating up as cracks began to spread across the walls of the volcanic crater.

Needing no warning, Bluejay hurried toward the tunnel that led from the volcano's interior to the beach outside, Lavorvomon hurriedly following her. Behind her, another rumble as the volcano shook, Garudamon shouting for her to keep running as he held back whatever was causing the quakes.

Finally, when they reached the beach, she looked back.

And Furnace Volcano erupted, spurts of lava shooting high into the air as chunks of rock and clouds of ash polluted the skies.

And standing there, on the lip of the volcano, was the cause of it all.

He was colossal, a spherical body with short but powerful limbs and a miniature volcano upon his back trailing lava and destruction behind him.

The monster jumped, high into the air where he was lost amongst the clouds of ash, before landing heavily in front of her.

Heat radiated off his body in waves, forcing Bluejay to step back lest she be burnt by its mere presence.

"Get off….my island...you twerp!" The beast roared before lunging forward with one fist cocked back, her death imminent. She cowered, flinching in fear as the fiery brute drew closer, but death did not come.

Instead, she was pushed away, Lavorvomon taking the blow for her and being launched into the ocean behind her.

"Stupid brat...needs to cool off…" It said before throwing something else into the ocean.

In the split second she saw it, Bluejay recognized the object. It was Garudamon. He was bloodied, and barely breathing, but he was still alive.

Blinded by rage at the sight of her barely-alive mentor, Bluejay charged forward screaming like a woman possessed.

She was batted back, the monsters fist searing an imprint into her side as it made contact.

Bluejay screamed as another fist hit her, this time from behind as the afterimage of the monster faded away.

Crashing into the side of the cave, Bluejay groaned as her consciousness waned, vision flickering.

"L-leave mama alone!" A young voice cries out from behind the beast.

Standing there is Vorvomon, just Vorvomon, the punch from the monster having knocked the digivolution right out of him.

"I'll...kill you...later kid…" The monster says as long streams of lava drip from its mouth while it looms over Bluejay, a massive fist pulled back for a killing blow.

Bluejay, with her last bit of strength, reaches out to punch the beast. Her fist connects, landing in the center of the monsters leather-wrapped face, stunning it.

[W A R P D I G I V O L V E]

And Vorvomon glowed. A golden egg of light surrounding him as he shifted through the levels of digimon. From Rookie, to Champion, to Ultimate, and finally to Mega, the egg separating to reveal a massive dragon-like creature, its body composed of fire and obsidian.

His mere presence boiling the seas, Volcanicdramon hovered just above the beach, every beat of his wings turning a bit more of the black sand to molten glass.

"I said, leave her alone, AncientVolcanomon." He breathed, the bare edge of a threat leaking into his voice.

Needless to say, the subsequent attempt at retaliation was met with a swift defeat, and the rescue of Bluejay.

Quickly, Garudamon was pulled from the burning waters, and lain on the parts of the beach that hadn't been turned to glass.

The presence of a certain small and pink digimon sped along what would have been months of recovery to barely a week.

DW:C Chapter 3 Part 1: Break The Contradictions
As the Horizon Chaser sails through the sky, all you can think of is how far you've come. Maybe it's because after years of being called crazy for talking about digital monsters you've finally been proven right, but it feels good. You have your friends beside you, a goal in mind, and the power to do it, and nothing is going to stop you.

"So, Myotismon, you said Old Order used to have a lot of really powerful Digimon?" You say as your 'advisor' tosses a drained bottle of scotch into the trash chute.

"Yes, of course. Old Order has a very long and storied history to it you see. It was originally home to a group known as the Royal Knights. They were the protectors of the Digital World, but now they're scattered to the wind. Of the ten Royal Knights, only one can Digivolve from Knightmon though, so we can expect that one Royal Knight to be Roman's partner." Myotismon says before a somber look overtakes him.

"Now then, that aside we should have some action in 3, 2, 1…" Myotismon drawls, looking at the nonexistent watch on his wrist.

"Uh-oh, we've got incoming. Airdramon, and lots of them!" Liesel says over everyone's ambient chatter.

"0!" He chirps, looking at you with a smug smile on his face.

"Don't worry, we planned for this." You say, rolling your eyes as you stand up and walk down to the front console between Bluejay and Liesel.

"AA guns are set to fire when ready boss." Liesel says, still looking at her console.

Looking out the window, you can see a cloud of the aforementioned Airdramon, maybe 100 total present.

"Lavogaritamon and I can go take care of them if you want." Bluejay offers, looking at you for any orders.

DW:C Chapter 3 Part 2: Bang Bang
"Let's test those AA guns." You say, Liesel jumping up and down excitedly with a slightly-disturbing grin on her face before she settles herself in the command chair that rises up behind her.

You watch as an arm bearing a targeting reticle extends from the back of the chair and centers itself on her right eye, a pair of what look like joysticks that Liesel quickly gets a grip on coming out of the arms.

You may be in the Digital World, but this is still some video game shit right here.

"You sure you got this?" You ask, receiving a cocky grin and ever so worrying giggle in response before your de facto pilot goes to work on the oncoming swarm.

It's almost graceful how she slaughters them, cannonfire cutting swathes through the serpentine Digimon as the Horizon Chaser continues to soar.

Eventually Liesel eliminates the last of the Airdramon, something is left floating there in the space ahead. It's covered in metal armor, its flesh a sickening blue-gray and tattered wings that should have no business flying on its back. One of its arms is covered in a massive metal claw, and you can feel the malevolence radiating off of it.

"Myotismon...what the hell is that?" You ask, voice edging into panic.

"...that would be one Virus-type Metalgreymon. Anybody have any good ideas?" Myotismon says after a minute.

"Liesel, do you have anything on the Horizon Chaser that can take that thing down? Or am I going to have to go out there and take it out?" Bluejay says as Lavorvomon begins to whine. Little guy must be scared…

"Well, there's the secret weapon…" Liesel says, biting at her thumb.

DW:C Chapter 3 Part 3: Run Around V2
"Bluejay. Go have some fun." You say, and Bluejay gives a serious nod before scampering off while giggling madly, Lavorvomon bounding after her.

A moment later you hear the hiss of an air-pressure lock releasing and soon Bluejay is balanced on the back of Lavogaritamon, a look that would be intimidating were it not for the wide grin on her face.

Actually, with all those teeth she's showing, it might be scarier.

"Liesel, pull us off course and a few hundred meters back from Bluejay's position. Shit's about to heat up and we will not want to be close to Bluejay when it does." Myotismon says as he comes up behind you.

Liesel does as instructed, taking the train-like battle station off course and out of the way to give the dragon rider the necessary space.

The fight starts off simple, Metalgreymon doing its level best to either knock Bluejay off her partner or outright obliterate the two of them while Bluejay and Lavogaritamon weave between and around the blows as quickly as Metalgreymon can dish them out.

It takes you a moment to realize what her plan is, how she weaves and floats around the attacks atop her partner, but then you catch it.

With every swing, with every shot, Bluejay and Lavogaritamon were getting closer and closer, until they were finally right up in Metalgreymon's virus-ridden face.

And Lavogaritamon glows, shifting from his car sized Ultimate form to a form best described as titanic, wide black wings of volcanic glass with flaming feathers taking up the majority of the area as a long black tail swishes in agitation. You can barely spot Bluejay atop Volcanicdramon, but seeing her brings a sigh of relief.

What follows is a proper dogfight, Metalgreymon using its smaller size to try and zip around and land blows only to be buffeted back by the intense heat radiating off of Volcanicdramon before the obsidian dragon slams a wing into the smaller Mega, sending it off kilter and careening towards the Horizon Chaser.

It's as if time has slowed, you see your life flashing before your eyes.

Your brothers, Manny and Carlos, both wondering when their big bro would finally be home.
Your friends, Pascal and Albert, worrying over their third musketeer.
All those times people called you crazy for remembering the things nobody else did. The incidents in Tokyo, the nuke scare, traveling to the Digital World, meeting all of your new friends.

You refuse to lose them.

You worked too hard to die now.

Suddenly, time returns to its normal pace, and there are two bodies in front of you. One is Myotismon, his teeth grit in exertion and palms covered in malevolent energy as he forces back the high-velocity Mega, and the other is Boltmon, his wide shoulders blocking the majority of your view as he helps Myotismon force Metalgreymon out the now thoroughly shattered windshield.

With a heave, the two launch Metalgreymon into the awaiting clutches of Volcanicdramon, the heat of his claws boiling away the necrotic flesh and melting the cybernetics beneath until all that is left of Metalgreymon is a charred skeleton and memories.

Reverting to Lavogaritamon, Bluejay and her partner make it back onto the bridge just in time to see Liesel raise a new windshield into place, the old shattered one jettisoning itself off the hull.

Threat removed, the whole of the party returns to their prior tasks. Liesel and Guardromon debating while managing the consoles, Bluejay navigating you toward your destination, and Mick continuing his game of tick-tac-toe with Leomon on the floor of the bridge while you and Myotismon reclaim your seats, Meramon and Number One standing just behind the two of you.
