Elitest children don't bleed their civilization dry of a viable population in defense of a galaxy (and its human population) when they could have packed up and left at the first sign they were losing the war. Elitest children don't elect to abandon superweapons which would have won them the war whose only disadvantage is massive collateral damage. Yes, the Ancients were flawed. They left a lot of technology around that becomes dangerous in the wrong hands. But the ones still around are the ones who Ascended, the ones who explicitly let go of earthly tethers and bonds. They're also the ones who know firsthand what you can become when you start interfering with the lower planes. They chose an absolute imperative that free will was everything and that abuse of power was unacceptable. Their opposites kept a galaxy in medieval condition for millions of years, promulgating lies for their own benefits and oppressing its people.

The Ancients and the Ascended have things to answer for. But let's not flanderize them or condemn them out of hand.
I did say that I understand and agree with their non-intervention policy. And I don't really mind them running, it's a natural response to things. But what I really have problems with is the fact that they don't clean up their toys. How many superweapons do they leave around just to have some moron push a wrong button.
Then there's the Anubis thing again.

It's kind of hard to keep track of everything when you're fighting a galaxy-wide war. When the U.S. leaves after fighting overseas a lot of stuff gets left behind, and our military has mastered logistics.

That has to be completely terrifying to whoever sees it. The Cry of Gimli is the largest ship to ever grace that universe.
For now. After all, why build a horrendously oversized ship if not to provide an inspiration to even larger ships?

Also I think this is the first or second time two commanders have visited the same universe.

While I'm glad that we've gone and finally exited the SW universe, I'm kinda sad we didn't get to see the conclusion of the Guri sideplot (or was it microplot, being only 2 or posts long) and we have yet to see Torroar's Super Synth Sun Jian frame in action.

Seriously, I should look into sonic weaponry more. The speakers were kind of built on the same principles as the sonic weapons that the galaxy I'd left behind possessed. There was better stuff in other universes, I'm sure though. It's up to me to go looking though.
Challenge: Defeat an enemy fleet using the Power of ROCK

Dunno if it has been mentioned but the last SW battle? Way too easy. You may have all the dakka in the universe but if I remember my novels correctly the Vong had mini black holes as point defence/part of their deflection.

He caught then with their pants majorly down. Much of the crews were in the middle of regular old infighting when The Network showed up. They were a terrifying invasion force against a foe that didn't even realize what was going on for far too long.

Which was what The Network was to them in turn.

I rammed my near invincible ships amongst then almost immediately. Making use of their black holelike weapons would have necessitated using them inside their own fleet. Then I vaporized most of them.

Hell, I killed most of the leaders in the initial salvoes by virtue of them being in the front and middle bits.

So...I uh, I disagree.

I know I am splitting hairs ultimately here and the arc is done but they were using mini-mini black holes as indevidual ships point defences. Using them within their fleet would pose no problem no matter how packed they were. But nvm really :) just bugged me when I read it is all.

I am reporting binge read successful. I absolutely approve of one upping fusou with the new and improved Cry of Gimli. Yaaaaaay USDs!

Nah, Fusou got me good with her giant space plug.

Now I gotta do something to make up for that, and considering Fusou's got Forerunner tech she could have like, Unlimited Plug Works on the inside of that thing.

Damn. I'm going to have to start adding zeroes to my notes if I want to keep up with you people.

Even with their non-interference policy, the first thing the Ancients should have done after Ascending was clean up the mess they left behind. The vast majority of problems in that universe seem rooted in things they did, caused or abandoned. I've actually had the thought that the reason the Furlings disappeared without telling anyone where they were going was so they could avoid having to deal with any of it.

I mean, dickish Precursors are a dime-a-dozen, but they usually don't have such an easy ability to clean up after themselves before they disappear into legend.

It's like some of you forgot that the Goa'uld are/were a galaxy spanning Empire.

As some people have forgotten, sonic weaponry is a thing in the Star Wars Universe.

Which is says the speakers are directly copied from, then modified to produce the weapony bits while also having noise.

Like...sonic blasters, and pistols, and rifles, and bombs.

Space sonic bombs.

As used by Boba Fett and likely plenty others.

Take that, throw in some Progenitor-izing, and you get Speakers In Space.

HYPERDRIVES!

See, time to throw away that shitty star wars hyperdrive and get a REAL hyperdrive.

Stargate verse hyperdrives are bullshit- the more energy you put into them, the faster they go. The more advanced they are, the better they are at turning that energy into speed.

Complete bullshit, and I love it :D

The worst thing about the Ascended is the fact that you don't even have to look very hard to blame pretty much all of Stargates problems on them......
