Deus Pater (Exalted/40k)

[X]Combat Training. The Adepta Sororitas are some of the finest warriors to be found anywhere in the Imperium. See if they will consent to providing you with personal tutelage in the arts of violence.
[X] Faith and Coin. Contact Deacon Amelia and get a full assessment of the state of Sanguis' economy, infrastructure and bureaucracy. You must know the tools at your disposal before you can work with them.

We were just warned that a Saint was outright murdered. Best to look to our own defenses.

Combat training affords us the opportunity to work on things like Brawl, which allows us to punch out physical opposition that eludes our guards, but also Resistance, which is essential to being able to ignore poisons or to tank sniper fire from agents of the Officio Assassinorum. Our PC won't be the first inconvenient vleric to receive the attentions of a Vindicare Assassin.

Faith and Coin because it has the greatest single effect on our dominion.
It impacts everyone, not just the mutants.

Although I voted for Faith and Coin?
I should point out that the patron saint of the Argent Shroud, Silvana was apparently known for preaching a creed of aid to those less fortunate than oneself.

That resonates most strongly with Twisted Flesh, though there is an argument for Faith and Coin as well.
Still, it makes a certain amount of sense to go from the Sisters to the mutants.

Most importantly, there is a need for him to appear in public.
After the miracle of his Exaltation in front of millions, he hasn't spoken in public. Probably want to forestall any rumors of death or quiet abduction.

EDIT
Sorry for the double post; hard to edit posts on mobile.

[X] Know Thine Enemy. You would be a fool to think your only opposition will come from within the Imperium. Consult the Sororitas and learn what you can of the daemon and the fallen, along with how to fight them.

[X] Warp-Born Mind. As your recent experience reminded you, there are psykers on Sanguis, not least of which are the astropaths responsible for interstellar communication. Visit them, and speak frankly, as likely none have done before.

For the moment, when Ignatius steps out of his popemobile and ruins somebodies day.

Less than twelve hours since the update. 111 likes, a good sixty-ish votes, and my ongoing attempts to work out just what it is that appeals to the SV userbase continues undaunted.

What appeals to all readers, naturally: Feeling immersed in the character and thus the story. A lot of quests with great premises turn out to be dry slogs because the writers ignore this point. You don't merely have to have a good world, you need to experience that world through the prism of a character (preferably an interesting one) if you want to make your reader lose himself from the exterior world and keep flipping those pages! It literally synchs up your brain.

Beyond that, the writing is good (which pared with the above, gets the fic to Great). 40k has an enormous fanbase too, so you've got the potential reader base, and +, everyone likes a good ole 'bring the light to a forsaken universe' tale. It's literally humanity's oldest story.

For me personally its refreshing to read about 40k in a hopeful light, as I like the setting a lot but cant withstand its pointless grimderpery. If I want to get depressed I can read the news.

Edit: The Grimdark grimderpery of 40k must have felt a lot more refreshing in the happy, sappy 'end of history' years of the 90s, now that I think about it.

Nah. It was popular in way less happy-sappy places like, uh, post-USSR space. Granted, it started becoming popular only in 2000-s, IIRC, but a lot of people who were into it lived through 90-s wild ride.

Good writing, popular setting, recognizable name of author.

40k was born out of the Thatcherite years in Britain, and it was, uh, not a happy time. Large portions of the Imperium were darkly humorous takes on how the authors perceived their own society and government at the time.

Huh, the more you know... I wonder if the setting's continuous decay through the grimdark gradient has been due to worsening optimism world wide? Britain though is in a better headspace now than in Thatchers time I think... (at least before Brexit happened).

[X] Words as Weapons. The Sororitas are not all frontline warriors, and with the aid of their non-militant Sisters you may gain a much stronger understanding of the less overt threats likely to interfere with your great work within the bounds of the Sector.

[X] Twisted Flesh. Sanguis has its own populace of mutants, oppressed and enslaved by the pure-born majority. Reach out to them, and bring them into your flock in truth as well as name.

People on SV pretty consistently enjoy starting at a place that isn't the bottom (really, an impressive character they're interested in playing), an impressive plot (I would say goal, but it's really about the journey, rather than the destination, so more like a good direction for the quest to go), and self improvement (a cool and satisfying explanation for how you're getting there).

So a Cardinal of an entire world becomes a Solar Exalted because of The Emperor and gets to Improve Himself a bunch in order to make the galaxy a better place.

Starting high? A cardinal. Yes.
A cool plot? Taking on The Imperium (from within) with crazy Exalted magic. Yes.
Self Improvement? A Solar Exaltation from The Emperor. Yes.

Orochimaru Quest exploded because we started as Orochimaru, with that inherent him against the world mentality (not a strong plot, but it was sort of a direction), and the players were constantly wanting to go after options that would make us cooler, like the cursed seals and the Jugo enzymes and stuff. It petered out, if I recall correctly, when TPK couldn't think of anything else to do and got tired of it.

Voters can get discouraged even if they like the quest if they feel like their choices aren't important, or if there are too many choices, but your writing style focuses on a few big choices rather than a lot of little ones, and you write big posts, so it's easy for people to contribute and they get a lot of enjoyment for that effort.

It's literally humanity's oldest story.
That honor goes to the Devil and the Smith. But we're not playing one of the cogboys here.

The continuing decay was due to letting the inmates run the asylum. But things are starting to look up. Or at least break out of stasis.

CADIA STANDS!

Alright, Vote Called. Combat Training and Warp-Born Mind win.

Time to get punched in the face and go talk to some witches.
Actually that makes me curious, after our Imperial Exaltation, do we still bleed red, or is it gold? If it's still red by default does it change to gold as we head towards and reach Bonfires status?
