It has been one hundred years since the death of Kibutsuji Muzan, and in that time, the land has experienced many changes and upheavals. Wars have been fought, cities raised, wilderness tamed, and superstitions conquered by science and reason. With the source of all demons dead for a century, memory quickly fades, and the citizens of peaceful Japan set out into the nighttime with excitement in their hearts and decadent luxury on their minds. The lights of their shining cities have turned the darkness of night into a world of pleasure and leisure, and the advancement of modern technology and learning have rendered the once feared Oni into a tale to frighten children.
In this blissful era, the blades of the Demon Slayer Corps have grown dull. After the death of Muzan, many chose to cast aside their blades and training to pursue a life of peace. For those who could not forget the shadow of Demons, they left behind detailed manuals and training methods, praying that future generations would not need them. The organization continued to exist, maintained by the members who could not forget their struggle, and is maintained in modern times as a cultural preservation society. The art of Breathing, that powerful mastery of body and blade that made man a match for monster, is hanging on by a thread, finding few willing or capable students to inherit the lessons. Nichirin Blades are kept as heirlooms, many families hardly remembering their true purpose. The nine Pillars of the Corps, untested in battle, are scarcely a match for the newly-recruited of the past.
The Slayers grow weak. Men grow careless. And, little by little, darkness returns to torment those who have forgotten fear.
Mysterious murders, unexplained disappearances, freak accidents. Modern Japan sees its share of such things, but the rising number of incidents, and most pressingly, a half-devoured corpse, lead the Demon Slayer Corps to hold a meeting between the nine Pillars to discuss the recent happenings.
That night would go down as one of the worst in the organization's history.
Demons, the dreaded monsters of the past, declared their return. And they did so by devouring and slaughtering all who were in attendance at the night's meeting, including six of the nine Pillars. They came in a hundred different shapes and forms, boasting a hundred nightmares made manifest. After the slaughter, they retreated into the shadows, to lurk among their favored prey as they did in the past. Boldly, they denounce the Corps as feeble children, incapable of standing before their mighty Lord and his demonic followers. For the pandemonium that now encroaches upon Japan bears a name:
Be bold, warriors. And deliver a reminder to your hated foes - that though man may fear demons, Demons fear Slayers.
But first, the usual ground rules:
Demon Slayers:
The overall strength of the Slayers is about equivalent to Tanjiro just after passing his trials - and you guys are considered the cream of the crop as far as recruits go! Some of you may end up holding a higher rank than your experience would suggest - the fact of the matter is, you're among the only ones in the Corps even capable of using Full Focus Breathing.
Demons:
Some special details here! Don't worry about averting your eyes, Demon Slayers, this is all information your organization has pieced together as well.
Demons in this game have a crucial difference from the series - they do not consist solely of Oni. Other demons and spirits from Japanese folklore and mythology have arisen, from Snow Women to Ume-bozu to Kappa and so on. They boast new powers and different weaknesses - some will be a true test of wits and adaptability. However, it is known that they are all former humans, much like the Oni of ages past. From what the organization has learned from stragglers and independent demons, people have been transformed by a mysterious figure known only as Nurarihiyon. It is believed that he is the same figure referred to as the Lord of the Night.
What this means for Demon submissions is that you have to have a human history, and you don't have to be an Oni - but you do have to be based in Japanese folklore. Can't just make something original here.
Also, all Demons keep the weakness to sunlight! Even the new species can only act during the night.
I am certain that I'm forgetting something I should be mentioning here, but don't worry! I'm up for answering any questions you may have either here in the thread or in PMs. I would state a player cap, but I've been notoriously bad at keeping those in the past, so lets just say there is a very soft limit of nine players and I will probably allow more if there are some really cool submissions. Have fun everyone!

The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons
These are your foes, newly recruited of the Demon Slayer Corps. In these modern times, you are among the only remaining swordsmen who can call upon the strength of old - Breathing. Armed with Nichirin Steel and clad in demon slayer's garb, you must strike out into the dark night and slay the source of the demonic threat - the Lord of the Night.
Be bold, warriors. And deliver a reminder to your hated foes - that though man may fear demons, Demons fear Slayers.
===============================================================================================================================
Welcome to Hyakki Yagyō - or Night Parade, because I'm not gonna keep calling it that outside of the thread title! In this game, contrary to all that cheesey fluff I typed out above, you will play as either one of the Demon Slayers or a Demon. For Demon Slayers, you'll be faced with the dangerous task of tracking down and eliminating the Lord of the Night, the new source of demons. For Demons, your goals are more personal - perhaps you're out for power, devouring demons in the hopes of ascending to the top of Tokyo's new food chain. Maybe you're on a quest to resist your monstrous impulses and restore your lost humanity. Regardless, I'll be welcoming submissions for either side for the next week!
But first, the usual ground rules:
- No godmodding! We're playing this freeform style, so its important that no one abuse that freedom by going around acting like a jerk!
- Be nice! We're all here to have fun, and part of that is avoiding any abrasive or condescending behavior!
- Follow site rules! Don't make the mods lock us up!
- If you aren't feeling the game anymore and wanna bow out, that's fine! But give me a heads up first so I can work out how to handle it!
- Demon Slayers post their sheets in the OOC thread, but Demons should PM their sheets to me. It's a dangerous world for lone demons, so you need to keep some cards up your sleeves. By contrast, slayers should be aware of each other anyway, so be open and public! You can send me a sheet in PMs, but for Slayers, you'll only be considered a candidate when you have a public sheet posted here!
- Keep your writing clean, folks - as you've no doubt noticed, my writing ain't gonna earn any awards, but you can read it! Mostly! Make sure your writing is understandable!
- Don't let me catch you cheating! Make a nuisance of yourself too often and you'll get the boot!

Breath: (The Breath Style your character uses. It can be one of the canon breaths, or a derivative breath of your own design!)
Nichirin Blade: (List the style and color! If you just use a normal sword, feel free to just list the color, I barely know anything about japanese swords anyway! The color is usually tied to your breath or character somehow. Modern times have made traditions go crazy, so even though they're 'blades' you can still choose to wield a different style of melee weapon such as a spear, axe, spiked ball, gauntlets...if you can use your Breath with it, its acceptable!)
Background: (Who your guy is, and why they're here fighting demons with swords!)
Breath Stances: (Your sword techniques. For those learning one of the canon breaths, use your canon stances! Original creations have their work cut out for them though. Max of ten techniques here!)
