Dawn of the Great Crusade

"It is the 30 millilumen and the great warp storms surrounding Sol have begun to dissipate. The Emperor of Man; having secured a better part of the solar system, deems it to be the right time to launch operations out into the galaxy. To this end, he tasks his newly battle-tested Legion Astartes to form the core of his liberating fleets. You are one of several legionaries that have been given the honor of sitting on the war council that will enact the Emperor's wishes. Let the will of the emperor be done!"

Lord Diomedes of the Imperial Heralds

Martial: 5
Diplomatic: 9
Stewardship: 10
Intrigue: 2
Learning: 9

The earliest days say the XVIIth Legion stand apart from their brother Legiones Astartes in duty and outlook. They fought with utter devotion and fanatical zeal. Their original recruits were drawn from the sons of defeated enemies, raised to know the crimes of their fathers and the price of the Emperor's forgiveness. Thus while the other Legions went to war with righteousness, the XVIIth fought with the cold fury that only the condemned and redeemed could know. While other Legions took some time to acquire formal names, the XVIIth was named the Imperial Heralds almost immediately after their founding. This was due to their early role to deliver the Emperor's ultimatum, delivered by a lone herald in black armour with a skull-faced helmet and a winged mace: submission or destruction.

Upon defeating an enemy, the Imperial Heralds would empty their libraries and records of any contents deemed heretical or sorcerous. Condemned works, individuals, and buildings would be destroyed in the name of the Imperial Truth. The Imperial Heralds repeated this process all across Terra during the Unification Wars. This gave the Imperial Heralds a rarely-spoken nickname among the greater Imperium: the Iconoclasts. Under Lord Diomedes, shall the Imperial Heralds seek to spread the Imperial Truth across the stars, and if possible, find their long lost primarch if possible. But, as the Lord has been recalled to serve as an advisor on a larger scale, he has found a replacement and makes his way towards the Meeting room of the Lords of the Imperium who shall lead the Great Crusade.
