Comic Book Worm: A Story of Enforced Tropes

Oh holy shit, we are Emma Frost now.
Yeah, being Sirmugh-lite is definitely something we don't want leaking anywhere.
Surprise detection of assassins is just a bonus.

My problem with keeping it a compete secret/reserve:
Lack of practice. There'll come a time when careful application of our new powers could be the difference between life-death for us/lots of civvies/heroes. And we will fail out of a lack of experience using our new powers.
Couldn't we just talk to new wave and kill our current personas? Get Coil off our back, an amazing backup ability that's easy to hide...

We rather like our current persona, though.
Yeah we do. Objectively I maintain that it'd be the smart move. Adiós Tattletale/Lisa means most of our problems evaporate. But we probably couldn't do away with our civilian identity even if we wanted to. The cozy job, the well used quirks... We just love ourselves too much.
Would be smarter than never using our new powers until we desperately need the, though :/ - that attitude is gonna bite us *so* hard

Updated perk list will go up with the new chapter, which should be up this weekend.

Fight or Flight
Fight or Flight

The Laptop you captured from Coil's men is heavily encrypted, it takes you almost an entire hour to get past the various security protocols and booby traps.

But still, you're successful, and you are rewarded with a great deal of intelligence. Patrol routes, stash locations, and marching orders for Coil's small army of Mercenaries. Much of it has likely been changed by now- even if Coil doesn't suspect the laptop of being compromised (and he probably does) the lack of the squad you took out would require some shifting around, and it appears that the caches are relocated fairly regularly.

That isn't too say that the information is worthless, however. There's very much a method to the madness here, and after spending a few hours studying the patrol routes and a map, you're fairly certain you can make a very good guess as to where the new patrol routes will be. The next time you sortie against Coil, you expect you'll have no trouble locating targets.

Of possibly greater use is what Coil's men appear to be protecting. The Slice of downtown he calls his own is full of businesses, many of which likely pay him protection, but three seem to be particularly heavily defended, always having at least one squad close by. Fortress Construction, The Paraguas Line Offices, and Unidac Industries.

Given your favorite reporters story a few months back, it's likely Coil has investments in Fortress, possibility controlling it completely. In which case he's simply protecting his investments. Unidac is a small R&D firm, and while it's website tells you next to nothing, it's likely Coil has interests in at least on of the projects it's working on.

The last company is a bit less straightforward, however- Paraguas is Cruise Liner company, it's offices a remnant from when Brockton Bay still had a functioning port. There are several reasons why Coil might want to protect it, but each of them is more unlikely then the last; you'll need more data to make any conclusions.

But that can wait for later. Tonight you're going to be running a patrol through E88 territory. No matter what issues you've been having with Coil, the E88 and ABB are still out there, even if the Gang war is starting to die down. The ABB have pushed the Empire back, but have stopped to consolidate their gains and fortify them.

And if what you're seeing is any indication, the Empire is taking the opportunity to catch it's breath. As you walk through poorly lit streets and back alleys, you see little sign of the Empires "soldiers", only shuttered windows and boarded doors.

It's a little creepy, if you're completely honest with yourself. Still it doesn't make sense, the empire would never-

And then you see it. Security cameras, the cheap wireless kind. The Empire's set up a security network.

And just as you make the realization, you feel a mind enter your range. You feel anticipation and anger tinged with scorn and disdain.

It's Stormtiger, and from the sound of it, he wants a rematch.

What do you do?
[]Stay and fight, making full use of your diamond form.
[]Stay and fight, without using your Diamond form. You don't want to tip your hand just yet.
[]Flee. You're not up for a fight with Stormtiger right now.

Not really. I suppose I should explain with regards to the roll.

Last time you fought Hookwolf, you needed a 13 to win once all the modifiers were said and done. You rolled a 12, hence your escape with minor injuries. You just rolled a 4, and with the plus ten shifting to Diamond form would give you, you would be capable of beating him. But as the vast majority just voted to keep that ability secret, I was leery to reveal it, thus the vote.

And now that I've explained that, I'll be rerolling the combat roll if staying and fighting wins.

Also, updated the Perk list.

[x] Stay and fight, without using your Diamond form. You don't want to tip your hand just yet.
-[x] Try to move to an area where you'll have at least some advantage, or maybe negate some of his advantages, but without making it too obvious that you know he's coming. Don't want to tip people off that you might have some sort of sensory power.
Make sure you got some good routes of escape as well, in case things get too hot.

Conflict helps our powers grow, and we might be able to gather new data or information from our encounter with him.

I can agree with this.

Well in retrospect we shoulda patrolled Fool's (really, autocorrect? Really?) Coil's turf in order to make use of the data on the computer. Ah well. Live and learn.

As for the new vote Kelenas is on the right track.

I was against using the diamond form when it wasn't needed as it sacrifices a surprise for no gain, here we are getting a potentially dangerous fight done with and it is less likely to become known to everyone if we just use it in a single hard fight than show it off while patrolling.

Hmm, quite the unlucky roll. I'm a little leery of fighting a boosted, pissed off Stormtiger. However, between the upcoming reroll, our applicable perks (Olympian, Twitch Reading, and Combat Projection) adding 20 to the roll, our armored costume, etc. hopefully we triumph or at the very least are able to run away in one piece. All that said:

Honestly even without the Diamond form the empathy should allow us to easily figure out where our enemy is and what he is most likely going to do next.

This vote seems good. Saving the diamond form for something a bit more life and death, or at least more important, seems like a good idea.

Make sure you got some good routes of escape as well, in case things get too hot. We don't want to have this fight caught on camera after all...
