CHANGELING Quest [Current World: One Piece] (Planeswalker Multicross Quest)

I don't know if more people will vote, but I'll leave the vote open overnight because I need to sleep early today. I'll probably be updating close to noon tomorrow.

Thanks for participating!

....magic. Course, magic. Kay, then threats. Due to being from an outside plane of existence we won't have a shard. However, I will not discount the threat that maybe just maybe one of those "Parasites" will attach themselves to us.

Which would open up to more threats. Such as Thinkers. We would be on that radar. In other words, that thing in the sky may try to be rid of us. What then?
I heard that magic true magic is a (temporary) blind spot and op power in worm because the entities haven't even encountered one so it can even be used to fight endbringers (and small chance but possible kill them because it ignores the op armor they have when you truly get their fake skin) also we're a blind spot for precogs.
But as I said it's temporary because then the shards and entities will study around this to counter act our magic

Then let's just go to other worlds first my du-dude-....listen I hate todays age. I can't call a person a dude or dudette without seeming rude. For all I know your neither. Tangent aside, I could name many reasons to go to the One Piece World. With it being relatively safer. And without having to deal with constantly changing versions of how strong endbringers are.

Reason 1: Martial Arts. Don't tell me you haven't seen The Rokuougan that damaged Luffy and didn't think that was rad. Yes, that was indeed a Yakuza reference. Also, there exists moves like Shave or Air/Moon/WaterWalk that would really no sale slower fighters. Also, imagine Fishman Karate. An AOE attack right there.

Reason 2: Haki in it's many forms. Observation, which will help give a hell of an edge in combat considering it let's you see the intent of attack and even invisible things. That's not even counting the awesomeness that is seeing into the future.

Armament, it's negation of durability and tangibility would help a lot. Also, stronger and more dangerous hits.

Conquerors, if it turns out we have it or something with Planeswalker bullshiz. Can you imagine, completely knocking out fodder you don't want to deal with. Or the application of it in battle. A burst and a stronger willed opponent would stagger, leaving them open for a blow. Not to mention it bolsters the other two types.

Okay, so it wasn't as many reasons as I would like, but I said a lot in those two reasons.

Edit: Does this count as Spoilers? Or is everyone caught up with the story?

One Piece it is!

I'm currently on the bus so I'll start writing when I get home in like half an hour or so. You can expect the update a couple of hours after that, probably after I eat lunch.

6 - Walking into a jungle (One Piece)
A world of ENDLESS OCEAN and BURNING PASSION, where men and women sail the seas in search of ADVENTURE, POWER, and JUSTICE. (One Piece)

You step forward.

You dive in.

The speck becomes a star becomes a burning sun becomes a galaxy becomes—

The song of the world whispers in your ears, and your burning soul harmonizes with it. Your body changes and remains the same, as physics and metaphysics twist your existence to better suit this Plane.

[New Perk Gained!
Motivation and Miracle (One Piece):
This world is a plane of burning will and unyielding determination before all. As long as you remain on this plane you gain the following benefits:
- Crits now count as a week's worth of training not only for the Skill rolled but also it's Key Stat.
- Fighting an opponent of equal or higher ability than yours count as a week of training for all Skills used, and their relevant Key Stats.
- Each time you do a training activity for a Stat, you roll a d20 and add your CHA modifier. If you roll higher than your current score in the Stat being trained, you automatically gain a point in that Stat. If this is your first time training the Stat, you gain two points instead.]

You open your eyes for the first time all over again.

You are sprawled on top of something strange. It feels like a rug, but off somehow. Wet and itchy. You are surrounded by various shades of green, and pillars of wood and bark raise from the ground around you.

It is very bright.

You look up, wondering where the light is coming from, and gaze upon the impossible.

You've spent all your life in the Dwellings, scurrying about like a rat, buried under layers and layers of metal and brick. The sun and the sky, to you, are those almost-mythical things only the rich and powerful can enjoy.

You've never seen them, you don't know anyone who had ever seen them.

As you gaze upon the wide expanse of light blue, white clouds gently floating on its surface and a bright light shining with warmth overall, you wonder if this is the afterlife.

You've died, after all, so maybe those cultists were right.

The thought brings with it memories, association, and half-forgotten recollections of your time Between. You wince, both in pain and confusion, as your mind is forcibly made to remember.

Not the afterlife, you correct yourself, just another world.

Slowly, mindful of your injuries and the pounding headache behind your eyes, you carefully sit up and examine your surroundings.

[Health currently at [O][X][X]]

What you thought was a strange rug was something even weirder. Grass, you recognize it from the few descriptions you've heard of it. Small, green blades of plant matter. Soft, kind of wet. Alive. The green things around you are other kinds of plants, bushes, small trees, and the like.

And the pillars of wood? Trees, you believe, though they look different from what you've heard, with wide leaves at their top and no branches you can see.

You are surrounded by plants, in a place you don't know anything about, and injured. Injured, you correct, hungry and also thirsty. Thankfully, your things seem to have followed you through that place Between.

Your clothes are ragged and still bloody but functional. Your knife is as sharp as ever. An assortment of coins of various denominations, mostly copper and silver but a single golden coin, your most precious treasure, still rests safely in the hidden pocket inside your trousers.

Your medallion sits around your neck, its familiar weight reassuring, and the pieces of rat-jerky you took this morning are still in your pockets. Good, you'll have food for a day t least, maybe more if you ration it correctly.

While you rummage through your pockets your hands bump into n unfamiliar weight, and you take it out to examine it. A box, small and carved. Illona's box, the packet she was to deliver.

Even seeing it brings the memories to the forefront of your mind. The fight, the horror, and desperation on Illona's face, the worms THE WORMS CRAWLING IN YOUR—

[New Flaw Gained!
Scoleciphobia (Severe):
You are deadly afraid of worms. You are shaken (–2 penalty to all rolls) if you are aware of the presence of worms nearby. If a worm enters direct contact with you, you become frightened and immediately do your best to flee from the situation. You may suppress the effects of this flaw with a DC 20 WIS roll if you are shaken, or a DC 25 WIS roll if you are frightened.]

You take a deep, ragged breath and do your best to calm down. Just... Calm down, don't think about— Don't think, just… Plan.

You are in the middle of a plat place, a forest of some kind. You are alone, don't know if there are people around or animals or anything like that. You need to decide what to do and act on that decision. The sooner the better.

What do you do first? (All actions will happen in the order they've been voted on, but only the highest voted will affect your Color Identity)

[] [Action] First things first, you need to secure your survival
. You need shelter, fire, water, and food, in that order. (+Green, roll Survival to see how well you do.)

[] [Action] First things first, you need to find civilization. Wander through this plant place, maybe find a river and follow it. There should be people living here, right? (+White, rolls Perception to find a settlement.)

[] [Action] First things first, you need to decompress. Your hands are shaking, you almost died, and you need to take a breath and just… cry your eyes out, break down now so you don't do it later. (+Red, chance to lower the severity of your trauma.)

[] [Action] First things first, you need to figure out everything about where you landed. Explore around, memorize the location of important places, and see if you can find anything interesting. (+Blue, get a better idea about your surroundings, and chance for a random encounter.)

[] [Action] First things first, you need strength. Power. Ever since you've opened your eyes you've felt something burning inside your chest, behind your heart, pumping you with power. Try to figure out what it is, and how you can use it. (+Black, uncovers ??? Perk.)

With planes done, you must now decide something else.

You look down t your hands, at your paper-white flesh and your spindly fingers, at your black nails and long limbs. You're currently in your true form, and you must choose a guise to take. It will make you feel more comfortable, and it will help if you encounter any people.

You think bout being Jim gain, but— THE WORMS THE SHOUTS YOU HEAR HER CRY THAT NAME BUT THE WORMS DIG TROUGH— you would prefer some… distance, from what happened. You need a new form.

What face do you decide to wear?
[] [Face] Write-in.
No elves or half-elves, and nothing too similar to Jim.

Author Note said:
Sorry for the shorter than usual update, but after rolling for your location I realized you'll need to make some decisions. Also, yes, I rolled for your starting location. No, I won't tell you where.

[X] [Action] First things first, you need to decompress.

I feel like it will be a good idea to get rid of the long term penalties if we can. Also this seems like a great place to train ourselves. We should get our CHA up to get the most benefit.

[X] [Action] First things first, you need strength.

[X] [Face]
A young human-merfolk hybrid boy. Somehow the Simic inspire self control and self reliance in your mind, and appearing as one of them helps both with distancing from your previous situation and putting up a self confident face.

I just had a random idea while thinking about the face-vote, and thought this could be very interesting, depending on where we landed, but also useful in finding out more about this world and having a pretty good criterion to decide if the first people we meet are assholes or good guys.

if they are assholes developing our power will no doubt be worth it.

trauma makes for interesting stories, polarized first encounters are narrative-driving. that's my whole thought process.

You do realize we won't have any legs right? Cause we don't have any spells to keep us afloat on land. We'd be sitting fish. Not duck, fish.

[X] [Action] First things first, you need strength.

The boy on the left. With sharp fangs.

I'm just thinking of adding horns and sharp teeth to a human physical features. Different enough to not incite any PTSD, while similar enough to not feel weird.

Huh. I was under the impression that ravnica merfolk had legs. apparently, only Ixalan merfolk do. What I meant then was a Simic human-merfolk hybrid, which look kinda similar to how fish-men look in one piece.

I'll change my vote appropriately

This is a reminder that your Shape-shifting is only limited to humanoid beings of around your size. As long as you can describe it to me well enough, I'll allow it.

You can even be a human again, as long as they are sufficiently distinct to your last persona. Maybe you could be a a girl this time?

I will never get that. I ain't changing gender, I'm personally fine with what god gave me. Biology, if there are people that don't have such beliefs.

I'm personally not curious at all about the opposite gender. I lived with a mother and 2 sisters to understand. I don't ever want to be a girl.

...
What?

I think the QM was bringing up the possibility for a character in a fantasy story to switch their shape to a female one, temporarily. The suggestion wasn't for you to change gender.

That said, our character probably doesn't feel that strongly about the gender they appear as, since I imagine being a shapeshifter leads them to be much more detached from their current physical shape than we poor limited muggles are. Even more, I imagine that gender in general is quite different for shapeshifters, who must simply see gender as a factor in their disguises, to be evaluated on aesthetic preference, or usefulness for a given situation, rather than as a matter of identity.

@RedLegend can you give us any clarification about this brief bit of speculation? How does gender work for changelings? If it's reasonably similar to how humans see it, does Jin/m identify with a gender with more intensity than just having a preferred male disguise?

Jin is what we would call gender-fluid, and has no stated preference for either gender. In fact, Jin thinks of gender as nothing but another part of the faces they wear, and basically uses the pronouns their face would use, he/him if the face is male, she/her if the face is female. Jin's preferred disguise was male because Old Man Clerk was male and he was the first human Jin saw, but Jin themselves have no preference.

You don't know how Changelings, in general, see gender, because you are the only one of your kind you've ever met, but biologically speaking your base form possesses no defined parts. You assume they are kind of like those frogs that change depending on emviromental stuff, but your Knowledge (Biology) is too low to tell either way.

In summary, Jin is Jin, and worrying about these kinds of things is for people whose flesh is too stupid to lie. Worry more about your goals, your desires, and your abilities.

Tho, Jin themselves would prefer variety in general, staying with the same face all the time tends to be stifling.

I'll call the votes and start on the update tomorrow after I wake up. Thanks for discussing and participating!

POWER! won, interestingly enough, but there seems to be a tie between simic hybrid and oni.

Honestly, I find the idea of being basically a Fishman more interesting, so I'll use my privileges to choose that one. The update will be ready... in a while

Hahahaha, I have to admit i feel a little smug at "winning" the appearance vote, I'm usually a lurker, and while i've participated in discussions and vote-planning, my plans never did win a vote.

Well, I'm taking this as an encouragement to participate to this quest ^^

Some Weird Forest
Morning, Day 1

The Simic Combine brings a lot of things to mind. Trees, fish, nature, mutant fish… As you look around, at the weird trees and the abundant green of this place, your mind can't help but wander there.

You once saw a simic hybrid, walking through the Dwellings with a sense of ease that made you avoid him a the time. He looked calm, in control, and so he was probably too dangerous to pickpockets.

You want to be like that, now.

What did he look like? Ah, yes, you remember now. Blue skin with a scaled pattern on the shoulders, elbows, knees, hands, hips, and back. Hair like seaweed, green and long. Webbed feet and hands, making it impossible to wear shoes. A fin on his back, and gills. One pair at the sides of his neck, another bigger pair just below the ribs.

You don't have the right internal organs to truly breath underwater or make full use of your webbed limbs, but it'll look real and that's what truly matters.

And a name, you need a name for this face… Jack, then. Something simple to remember.

As you sit there, testing your new body and admiring its coloration, you notice something else. Ever since you've opened your eyes to this new… Plane, ever since you've traveled the Between, you've felt something… beating, inside your chest. Not your heart, but… behind ii, almost, pumping not blood but…

Power. Energy. A constant stream of… something.

Something that, maybe, you can use. Something you can maybe learn to control. Something that will help you be strong.

Something to burn the worms and scatter the ashes.

But first, you need to… focus. Try. You may fail, this may be all for nothing. You won't know until you try.

So close your eyes, and focus. Take a breath and ignore the world around you. Can you hear it beat? Can you hear it thrum? Focus harder, ignore the blood in your veins, ignore the meat sounds and the meat feelings. Meat is a lie, flesh an illusion. You know this, you see this so well already don't you?

Skin lies, search deeper.

Ignore the organs, the bones. Ignore your nerves and the chemicals in your system. Ignore it all, focus deeper still.

Can you feel it? Can you feel the heat? Can you feel the static thrum? Can you feel the power?

It's an engine, you realize. A gate and a well, an endless stream of something else.

[Knowledge (Colored Mana): 16 - Pass!]

No, not a single stream, but many. They flow like lightning and gather like rain. They like suns but feel as deep as the abyss. You remember a voice telling you about this, the Colors and their meanings.

Black. The color of ambition, self-determination, pragmatism, and the importance of the self. Also the color of power through any means, amorality, and greed.

White. The color of society, peace, civility, and order. Also the color of hate, of controlling everything around you, and the loss of individuality.

Red. The color of emotions, passion, arts, and action. Also the color of sadism, lack of forethought, and reckless impulse.

Blue. The color of learning, perfection, practice, and discovery. Also the color cold apathy, of forcing change regardless of desire, of over-thinking and overplanning.

These four forces flow around the Spark at the center of your self. You can feel them, disparate forces combining and repulsing, enemies and friends. Power. Pure, unfiltered.

[Color Identity Set: Yore]

You can feel something click, your soul drinking this power and changing in a way you can barely understand.

[New Perk Gained!

You hear the song of Artifice, and your hands shape the world. Crating skill replaced with Artifice. +10 Bonus to Artifice Rolls. Can use Mana instead of materials when creating an Artifact.]

Cost: 1 Metal / 1 Mana (Any)
Health [O]

And with that last change, your soul grows quiescent, still, and stable. Yet a Spark remains, and it is only a matter of learning how to harness its warmth.

[??? Perk Revealed!
A Spark (Untrained):
Your soul holds a spark of the endless power of the In-Between. You are capable of learning any and all magical and supernatural abilities, with enough time and study. Spellcraft becomes replaced by Mana Skills. Once a year, you may Walk the Planes.]

When you open your eyes you find yourself, again, laying on the ground. The grass feels warmer, and the sun is a bit higher in the sky. But it doesn't matter, because you can feel the power thrumming inside you.

And something, nagging inside your brain, urging you to… you take out the sealed box and look at it with new eyes. The carvings are still in a language you don't know, but you can almost… understand it. Not fully, but the gist of it… And something whispers in your ears, like the instinct you possess for changing shape, telling you… It will be hard, but you may be able to open this. Not now, you can't afford to lose more time, but soon.

[Mystery Package - DC to open revealed! DC = 25]

Part of you is happy about it. You could finally see what's inside, could finally find more about your grandfather's mysterious life. But, but…

Looking at the box makes you remember, and another part of you wants anything but to remember. The pain, the screams, the smell of rot and blood, the WORMS THAT CRAWL INSIDE—

You close your eyes and take a forceful breath. You cannot afford to break down now.

Only… You look around. You are currently in a clearing. You can hear the strange twittering of what you think are birds, but not much else. You've spent who knows how much time already sitting here, and nothing has attacked you yet. You are, at least for the moment, safe.

If you don't break now, then when? Later, when you can't afford it? When you next see a worm and—

So you crawl away, hiding between the leaves of a bush, and just… let it go.

As a shape-shifter, you can cry on command. Tears are easy to fake, and it's been a tool you've used plenty in your younger years as a beggar.

True tears are different. There's no sense of control, there's no assurance that you can stop whenever you want. They flow and they flow and you cannot do anything about it. Snot flows from your nose and you breathe in ragged gasps. It is not a pretty way to cry, but at least it's mostly silent.

You count your blessings.

But even as your mind shies from the past, you force yourself to remember. Not the last moment, you can't do that yet, but… The good memories you had, the banter, the daily tea that always tasted surprisingly good for how shitty it looked. Old Man Clerk was an asshole, a gruff old man that raised you only in the loosest of ways.

But he fed you and clothed you, taught you to lie and steal and keep hidden, to survive. He taught you to read, to throw a punch, to tell when a man is laying to your face.

He loved you, even if he never told you so, and you loved him in kind.

And now he's dead, devoured, and used as a suit. And it breaks your heart. Grief crawls inside the cracks and hollows it out, leaving you empty and tired and just… sad.

But. But he'll want you to move on. If he could see you now, crying in a bush, he would call you a little bitch and kick you with his peg leg. He would bring a cup of tea, sweeter than usual, and he would ask you. "What the fuck made you cry so much, and what are you going to do about it?"

And you would cry a bit more because he's dead and even his memory brings you pain.

And then you would clean your tears and snot off your face. You would square your shoulders and you would say, "who's crying, you blind fossil?" And he would snort, and play along, and then he would offer his shitty advice, and—

But he's not here anymore, no more shitty advice or gruff snorts. Just… you. Just Jin, lost and alone and tired.

So fucking tired.

Some Weird Forest
Afternoon, Day 1

When you wake up your back is sore and there are twigs in your hair. The sun is low in the sky, telling you about the time you wasted doing nothing at all.

But, even then, you can't get yourself to regret it. You… needed that, really. You can't say it fixed things, it really didn't, your heart still aches and the memory of the worms— Makes you flinch every time you try to remember.

But you feel better. Less hollow, less tired. Like, like maybe if things are good at least you can start fixing them. Like you can stop crying, for now, and focus on doing something about it.

You really needed that nap, too.

[Health now at [O][O][X]]

You stand up, for the first time in ages, and look around. Forest, plants, trees. You square your shoulders, rolling the soreness out of them, and with a determined air, you begin walking.

Try and find people, first of all, and map the surroundings while you are at it. You really, really don't like the idea of camping out at night.

[Perception: 12 - Partial Pass]

You wander through the vegetation without a real goal in mind, just walking forwards until you find something. Anything, really.

It doesn't take you much to exit the forest, which in reality appears to be more a small but dense grove of trees, and arrive at—

You pause, eyes wide and unbelieving. It's… beautiful. Intimidating. An endless expanse of blue. Water, you know, but…

The light of the setting sun tints the sky with orange, red, and pink, and the ocean reflects those hues. It's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen.

This, you think, is called a sunset.

You want to stay there and watch it forever until the sun finishes setting and night falls, but you notice something else on the cost. A house, right by the coast. Small and mostly circular, with two floors, sitting right at the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean.

Oh, and its back wall, the one facing the ocean, seems to be many times taller and bigger than the rest of the house, shaped strangely. From your position, you can't really see if it's meant to represent anything at all or if it's just a wall.

You scratch your head for a moment, but at the end of the day it's a house and that's all that matters. Civilization, shelter, maybe food if you're lucky.

You approach the house slowly and quietly, but as you get closer and closer no one emerges to try and kill you, so you assume that the occupants are… busy? Unobservant? Peaceful?

You truly, honestly don't know.

So you approach the door, and nothing happens. You knock at it, and nothing happens. You knock again, harder, and even try to shout a "Hello?", but nothing happens.

The house seems to be empty. But it is also in good repair, and both the doors and window shutters are closed and locked.

Your throat is parched, your feet are sore, and it's starting to get darker and darker. What do you do?

Choices:
[] Just wait. Sit with you back at the door and wait. The house looks in better shape than any house you've ever seen in your life, so obviously, it can't be abandoned and you don't want to get caught breaking in.

[] Break-in. The lock on the door doesn't seem difficult to pick, even with only your knife. You are a lone child, hungry and thirsty, and it's getting dark. Most people would pity you, if you were to get caught, and will probably go easy on you. Take the risk.
