Looking at something in the body mod binder Sin-Die took a moment to respond. "How about you finish going through and making a body mod list while I find out. I think this might be a bit more complicated if your current regen has removed that divot, that or Riser just never had it. Either way your regen is the issue and the medical lab techs should have an answer. Just stay here while I go check."

Spreading me arms I just said "Sure I'll be right here till you get back."

Shouting just as she was closing the door. "Let the lab boys know I want to know how this amputee shit is going to handle my regen after the show."

"Sure, now just stay there."

...

While she was out I decided to power through the rest of the body mods and I'd note which ones need to be reviewed later.

As was my usual action I disregarded most of the mental altering ones.

Oh and there was that silly detachable penis which reminded me of a doujin. Oh, yeah that one ended up getting a jump made under the QQ drive.

There was also a Race Change option that was offering points to go from a shonen devil into a human. That was a solid no from me, I was never really that attached to my species. Though the associated Essence Change promised the ability to turn into a kryptonian-lite. The Jelly Skelly subset was a definite potential, slime girls were great and I would in most cases be okay with that.

The Timeless and upgrades were also useless thanks to my DxD devilhood. After all I had at a minimum 10,000 years and the innate shapeshifting would hold off any aging. Hell, I could even given time change my apparent age if so desired. The upgraded Repairbots though was an immediate grab, after all I might regenerate as a Phenex, but that's as a devil meaning Light/Holy aligned ailments can severely hinder my recovery.

Telepathy being largely mental was also out, even if I really did want the mind reading and telekinesis.

There was also a Genome Control set that just seemed like a massively upgraded version of devil shapeshifting. Yeah, I'll pass since devil magic two things going for it. That it's imagination based and is apparently like everything in shonen anime able to be gamed to absurd levels. The Size Control is also a shapechange option.

Hell, I could probably just wipe out a lot of the previous selections just from me training up my now baseline devildom. Hell just going off that one devil lady who had Mr. Fantastic moves means that I can mimic such feats by training my shapeshifting.

Heck just going with that idea means I can get a stretchy tongue on my own. If I push it the fangs, and any horns I want could be molded.

I had to curse at that last one "Baelfire, I can get my tooth issue taken care of on my own. Huh, now what else did I just agonize over that could be swapped out under shape change roles."

If I push that logic further and treat the mutated forms of such Stray Devils like Viser as the result of racial shapeshifting gone wild then Race Hybridization is something quite possible as well.

Ahh, I need to scrap almost everything and just focus on the immediate gains that I can't collect from shapeshifting.

Right I think I got that sorted out and managed to reduce my Body Mod costs by more than half of what I'd started at. Though I did grab Bi the Way as all it seems to do is shift my orientation focus from being a mostly apathetic 80/20 in favor of females towards a still mostly apathetic preference of partners that was an even 50/50. Looking closer it doesn't affect anything else about me such as if I like to top or not. On the other hand it's basically giving me free points.

Finished with the Body Modifications section I moved on to the next section even if I was still holding off on the whole amputation for mega points thing.

Health and Hygiene was the next section I decided to focus my time and energy towards. This should be easy enough to speed run especially since I found a countdown towards something called a soft launch.

Well I say count down but it seems to be a little over two weeks if we go with the fact that Slattern uses a 32 hours a day & 7 days to a week model. It also seems that they're doing multiple such soft launches each with about 3 weeks between them. If their year has 39 weeks then I think this 3 week interval is a month for them, which means there's 13 months in their year.

The reason I say this should be quick is that the nanobots I grabbed under body mods should keep me clean. And, anything they missed I could simply use my fires to quickly burn off for easy cleaning. That combined with the shapeshifting I intend to practice with means I can rule out the Make-up Kit and its expansions.

The Advanced Health Care was a sure grab after all they're selling me one-ups. All I need to ensure that the Lifetime Plan resurrections only occur after any other one-ups I've used up. If I take the Renewal Service then I get a potentially infinite source of resurrections at the cost of doing another run. A service that I can choose to end at anytime, though it does require doing a new run.

Now the 5 free ones only come into play after my run ends on the show so I need to come back to this. After all how much of my freedom am I willing to give up for an illusion of continuity?

Massage is skipped since it only applies to the show. The Health Checkups is as worded not something I'm interested in undergoing even for just the year.

The Living Roomba gives mini-Suu units that are capable of doing chores from day one. Such chores as: laundry, dishes, tidying and re-organizing furniture, maintaining appliances, performing basic pet care, vacuuming and much more.

Since this was such an easy section all that's left before looking at the Clothing section is the bathtub Roomba the Scrub-ot. Maxing it at Scrub-ot PRO sounds like a good idea to get as the upgrades past that don't seem really worth it all that much.

Clothing was an even easier section to do a run through as I just skipped over any that required nudity. The Clothing Replicator was an immediate grab that meant I had no need for any of the other options. Well except for some aesthetic options, and as an insert to Riser Phenex a controlled Fetish Transformation snug yet comfortable clothing would fit.

Food was almost as easy since I went straight for the Food Replicator, only to be met with every option selected. And, I do mean every available one to the maximum number allowable.

I had to double check my point value immedietly only to see that it hadn't shifted any. It was almost like there was no expenses on my account. Now call me paranoid, but it did jog my memory a bit and I can recall Sin-Die mentioning a hub. The only thing I could recall that would fit my situation is that somehow I'm using a Universal Drawback Supplement system. After all my favorite drawback besides You ARE The Hiro and the UDS's Drawback Keeper was All You Can Eat.

A drawback that was almost a perk for the simple fact that it gave its users all the food items from non food jumps for free. All at the cost of actually having to exercise the calories off.

Though I can think of a million and one ways around that little issue, and even game it for profit.

...

A further shock came an hour later after I finished my Entertainment and E.Drug sections. Though I will note that I took the Fecundity E.Drug for the increase in chances as I have to accept that I now come from a race with dramatically low birth rates. I'm also quite resolutely ignoring the +489 credits that I gained from that section. Which ignoring the Entertainment purchases meant that I was sitting pretty at a glorious +489 credits.

Said shock was that I could refund certain Food selections for their full value, though I would then need to pay for the replacements. Meh that just became a small point bank to use, seeing as the Food Replicator as worded can make any of the other food options. Well so long as they can fit inside of a microwave, though as spatial-warping tech comes into play that number shrinks.

Also infinite gold if I land in a Dungeons & Dragons world. After all who could say no to the adorable golden murder badgers that are the aurumvorax. With some space warping that thing could be producing dragon carcasses as fast as I can demand them.

I can go even further since it literally says; "A special device slightly larger than a microwave that is capable of making any kind of food or drink you can think of, and even ones you can't."

That means if it could process it that this little box could feed Galactus and his family with suitable planets.

...

The House was an interesting experience especially as I figured a Loophole that came from synergizing the Escher House with the Dungeon Lord Job. It got me even higher synergy levels by becoming a Super Villain for a Hero Team to face. Hel's Bells grabbing Dungeon Delver just compounded the combo by letting me explore and "tame" the dungeon inside of my Housing.

I mean the higher grade Maze choices made a ready to go Dungeon that constantly shifts around. Taking the Dungeon Lord choice meant that I could take my home Dungeon and just manage it. After all it seems that they just ripped off the template from the 3.5e Dungeonscape splatbook. And then they added a little bit of lore from all those dungeon core novels so that there'd be an easier interface that seemed similar to a collection of stronghold builder guidebooks.

Essentially the meta premise I was building was that I was a villainous Dungeon Master whose dungeon grew by overtaking an infinitely larger one. With the fact that I was planning out how to further game this mess I think I had a good handle on things even if I was looking a little red in the points.

After careful point tracking I managed to snag before any rewards, and that was a sore topic at the moment, I had a positive gain of 2,009 credits and a cost sheet that totaled 2,094 credits for a net of 85 credits. And on the subject of Rewards my one free slot was taken up by the Planet that my Benefactor had purchased for a further net of 75 credits. Any extra rewards would automatically have an additional 25 credits added on to each reward's price tag.

.

I did get a small glimmer of hope from one of the options that I spotted. Of course they tried to hide this potential miracle option.

It was also at that time as I was mentally readying myself to looking at the rest of the rewards that Sin-Die came in.

Hopefully she had good news as at this point I might need to lop an arm off for the wonderful opportunity that I had in front of myself. Thankfully I don't think I need a positive balance to play this game.

I barely listened to her talk except to keep an eye on what she was doing, I was in such a fit of inspiration that I fully ignored everything around me.

What had caught my attention so? It was a simple reward that I remember had only shown up in a few editions of the contract that made its way to my old world.

The Jackpot reward had my hands itching to use the dice Nǚwáng gave me something fierce and it says nothing about a limit on the number of rolls.

And I smile for it says nothing about a maximum number, and I've learned that ever since waking up games of chance such as dice are almost impossible for me to fail at.

There's a nine out of a hundred chance to win while rolling or a hundred percent chance in my hands. Each roll costs 30 credits and a win gives 80 credits.

That wasn't the only shock to my system as in my agitation my chain had been spiking in length and ended up coiled around my stylus only to get plugged into the tablet. I think if I wasn't a Phenex i'd have had a heart attack going by the warmth in my chest.

[ indent]That wasn't the only shock to my system as in my agitation my chain had been spiking in length and ended up coiled around my stylus only to get plugged into the tablet. I think if I wasn't a Phenex I'd have had a heart attack going by the warmth in my chest.[/indent]

It was only after I calmed down that everything clicked into place, and that everything was what my inherited artifacts were. They were the pencil, dice, haversack, and chains from the Cheater's Chest.

Though the question must be raised as to why it took so long for this to occur to me. After all I already use their non-CYOA powers on a regular basis.

It does tell me a bit about what Alfred Bernard was up to with his mass farming. He was developing and deploying artifacts that could cheat the Cosmic Karma to yield a higher harvest without tripping some kind of threat.

The Dice gave me the freedom to ignore any rolls, in CYOA's that is. That most delightful of writing implements is capable of minor edits to the documents I'll be using to guide my path forwards.

The Chains are second best artifact when it comes to a jumpchain in my opinion. This feeling stems from the fact that the chains only double the bennies from options such as 2x the discount or 2x the points offered. In a jump though they're better used as a restraint or tool.

Having a bag of meta-holding is a more vital artifact for a jumper. This one acted as an inventory system, but more importantly let one ignore any drawback that would take things from you that you got in a CYOA, even if due to a drawback, thus ignoring the loss and keeping the points. Hence from this moment on any power loss drawbacks are just free points.

Oh that last one does remove the downsides to most of the more egregious Universal Drawbacks. Especially the one I am operating under, All you can eat, as I can safely ignore the fat protocols. I love eating and as a devil one of my sins would most definitely be gluttony, though having faced real health issues from being heavy I need to avoid any obesity.

Thankfully this last minute realization allowed me to back off on a lot of the "Complications" as I no longer needed as much. Though while doing this that magical sack led me to realize that it was possible for me to grab conflicting options as it prevented the loss from hitting.

Finished with my new selection spread I passed Sin-Die the completed selections after transcribing it into a floating list of text next to my offhand. Just so I could have a record of what was going on.

Being a former cash cow is looking pretty good right now.

I was wrong, really wrong. I don't want to be a cash cow anymore and I hate everything.

I think I would be screaming if not for my vocal cords being splayed out along having additional flaps of flesh on my sides for the eventual gills I would be getting.

Through the pain I tried to think over how I'd gotten here. Just as an exercise to ignore the masses of metal and drugs in my system to combat my regen. I just knew they were vivisecting me as they went in the name of SCIENCE! *KRAK-THOOM*.

It had started with a sudden impact like someone punched you in both the chest and and your neck sending you to the ground gagging with trouble breathing.

Apparently it takes three days and change to come out of a Multiverse scale Bonesaw incident. I was actually comatose for a fair few hours, and it took 3 Keplerian days for me to recover as they'd suppressed my regen.

Soaking in a medicated hot tub with pulse jets was an odd experience even if it was to help me recover. In the last hour I'd figured out how to trigger my gills though the staff had requested that I use them while soaking.

When I had them out there was a small set of flaps that tore open both along my neck and along my sides from just under my shoulder blades to where my ribs ended. That was two sets of gills that could function separately or in reverse of one another. There were also a third tube in my throat that assisted in moving inhaled and exhaled water.

I'm pretty sure that they also tweaked things so I could survive in the reduced oxygen that the waters of such worlds as Earth. And to breath the new structure let's me switch from air breathing, swallowing, and underwater breathing. Using either my mouth or the neck gills to inhale water forced the fluid through my diaphragm into special pouches before forcing it through the larger rib gills when exhaling.

I did discover one unintended combo and that was by flexing my larger gills and diaphram in reverse I could spit like that one fish. Although unlike that little fish I was able to hit the wall opposite me and that was only after one of the lab techs was being toxic in the workplace.

Sadly I missed the asshole technician and almost hit one of the grad assistants so I was a little sheepish. They did tell me the math with Archerfish averaging 15cm (6in) in length with a spit range of 3m (10ft). Me though I was now 5ft 10in (178cm) and had managed a range of almost three times that before my watery spit ball had hit the wall.

So yay, that's another new test that needed to be done since they think that if it scaled properly I should be able to hit targets from a further distance than that. If just scaled by length the lab assistant thought that I should be hitting almost 36 meters or 120 feet. That's just scaled to one dimension, it could be longer if scaled along multiple vectors besides length.

On slightly lighter note they were almost done sourcing the "owners" that I'd selected and the Labyrinth seed which would be my house was almost done being constructed. They were having some issues with locating a planet that matched my requested parameters, though they said they'd keep looking or just source it third-party.

I mean all I had asked for was a hollow world set inside an infinite expanse of rock whose gravity radiated away from a central point. All they need to do in my opinion is take a copy of an elemental plane of Earth, then carve out a jupiter sized hole. After that use a little verse editing to make gravity radiate outwards and away from the center. And, finally hang a weak sun in the middle that could be grown and expanded upon in time.

...

I already know that some of the Universal Drawback Supplement's offerings are in use as after I finish the Generic firsts I segue into a new hub. The GFs are a matter of gaining experience and I'll be facing the three of them as parts of one hub model.

Though my fear of impending doom and loneliness have been waived by the truth inherent within my bag of meta-holding. Irregardless I will need to sit down and sort out that mess.

Apparently after they learned that their potential client was a pure blooded devil both of my selected angelic owners cancelled on me and then blocked me.

Their reasoning was that they had no clue how the devil miasma would interact with their physiologies. Well that and it was to avoid mutual kills as most variants of angels and devils upon meeting have an instinctual bloodlust that forces conflict.

On the other hand the managed to source a vampire suicidal enough to chance fire blood, the condition that my blood was listed under. Having fire blood means that there's a high chance for any vampire feeding on me to burst into flames. That seemed to trigger a minor feud to both avoid and to eat as any that survived could gain sun immunity, that or be able to spread it through their childe.

So I got that to look forward to, but they did not manage to get a Hellsing style vampire to draw the lucky straw. Something that makes me happy seeing as I'd have to deal with them after I finish off my Slattern Contract during the Generic Firsts Hub set.

The XXXorg though seemed to fall in love with what I was offering as they calved a full division to join me. Well more like the more warlike members that remained after being lewded decided to join me as after my run on the show I'd be setting out on a trail of conquest.

However their ability to fully assimilate new members will be hampered unless I land in a high tech & high magic setting. So as soon as I land in one of the DC/Marvel comic ones I'll be visiting thanks to having Benefactors from there.

There's also the Shub-Niggurath cult that had stepped up to accept me as a messenger of their god which was true from a certain view.

That cult would help me handle and meet the duties that The Mother demands.

Yep can confirm that some of the e-Drugs are functioning, well that or me being a Devil has started changing me more than I anticipated. I'll have to ask that when I go in later for my next checkup.

Nah my issue is that the Yautja I'd grabbed for stealth training has ended up in an urn. I think it was an accident but for all I know it could have been something else.

We had issues when we met each other for a final review. Well more like he broke in to "test" me and I ended up triggering my pyrokinesis to eliminate the threat.

After all I'd been woken up in the middle of the night on the darkside of our orbit with a knife to the throat and a plasma caster to the face.

In some odd twist to whatever passes for honor amongst the Yautja I'd passed a test and so get to keep the opening in my schedule along with the points. And, since I killed him before the show even if the incident was recorded as a blooper I don't qualify for the free pass from future hunting parties.

On a lighter note I don't understand all of the movements in the background but apparently some choice comments while talking with one of the tabletop groups had given the world designers an idea. And, said idea resulted in a truly colossal death world that they were still filling in the details for, though the internal was a lot larger than planned until I mentioned just copying some of Greyspace's Star-Gems.

An idea that they took and ran with as they established a restraint system at the core of a world to be harnessed. There's just one small issue and that is the fact that your average star-gem of 1 mile diameter produces enough light to reach Earth levels at roughly 10.6 times the Earth-Moon distance. Just trusting the numbers for a solar of 1367 W/m2 would require a radius of 4.073 million km which is 0.027 of an AU.

That's closer than Mercury's orbit and almost 6 times the radius of Earth's sun, with just one tiny gem. That's a combined solar output of 2.268e^22 W per standard sized star-gem.

In order to combat the saturation they moved the interior a little further away from that line to a modest 4.55 million km to drop that down to a lower 1095 W/m2.

After figuring out the whole star-gem mess and our internal boundaries they started looking for a suitable location to host. And, it was at that moment someone had the bright idea to just take and fill up a crystal sphere and then hyperfold the innards.

Said folding meant that one could dig for however long they wished to without ever reaching the sphere's shell. From a human perspective it's be the same as living on the inside of a dyson sphere, but one where no matter how far you dug you would never see the stars outside.

But that was my world and it'd take a few days to properly finalize it. In the mean time I was due for a follow-up appointment for further modifications and later my villain interview.

After almost two full weeks of testing I've been given a clear bill of health and in just nine short hours I'll be boarding the vessel meant to take me to my new world.

Though I could do with not being forced to stand barefoot in sand.

One thing that definitely stood out was how sensitive my skin was. I think Ack said it best with how new nerves act up. Thankfully I had a sensitivity controller that let me control how active they were. At the lowest I couldn't feel anything except for that pins-n-needles feeling of body parts that fell asleep. While concerned the medics did say that it was just mental as even when using the reflex test hammer and other tools only conscious control was able to move my wooden limbs.

Then there's the twin peaks of heightened sensitivity I was able to climb to. For more erotic matters, which Slattern Vitae admittedly focuses on, the higher settings basically register as to quote 'will orgasm at a passing breeze'. Thank god I bought the manual control option otherwise I'd be risking

One of the simplest things the checkup said was that I now needed a minimum of 2,300 food calories a day to keep healthy. According to the calculator I used a normal zero exercise maintenance intake was just roughly 2,085 kcal a day. That ignores the fact that the stated feat is a minimum for health and if I remember correctly an adult male needs a minimum of 1,500 calories a day.

Essentially meaning I need an additional 50+% daily intake on top of what a normal human would need, which in a survival situation can be hard or even lethal as I now require almost double what someone needs a day just to avoid starving to death. Especially so, with the fact that I ended up with a death world to serve as my new home and future jumpchain hubworld.

That aforementioned zero exercise intake of 2,085 kcal for me would then be 3,200 kcal to maintain weight. And ignoring that complication to match a professional athlete of my build who requires a daily intake of 4,175 kcal would mean I need to intake 6,400 kcal a day to just match them.

A zero exercise me would need to eat at least 4 and a quarter Big Macs (550 calories) or just over 11 and a half a day to match a professional athlete. If I start needing any more calories in a day I might just start a mukbang channel, thankfully being devil means that unless desired I could out eat Nicki Avo on a daily basis without suffering his unfortunate weight gain.

Speaking of that world they found that since the Star-gem in the center only outputs 2.268e^22 watts that they would need 16,878.3 such standard sized ones to equal the sun of Earth. Shoving all those gems into one solid one would result in a giant glowing gem that was not quite 208km in radius. I found a picture of Earth's system which really drives the point home of the size as this new star-gem would be almost the size of Proteus, which is positively tiny next to the Earth.

...

From my understanding I was going to land in a small city/compound in a large temperate forest that had a lake to the settlement's south. Said lake is where my boat would be docked, though my day to day vehicle would be a supe'd up copy of my 1998 Ford Explorer that's bulletproof.

In the meantime the staff was readying as ship with some life-water an orange-red amniotic fluid that reminded me more of LCL. Which it probably is as there's a group of Reis that are joining me on my 7 day journey in suspended animation. I'll probably throw up after being woken up from having ingest so much of the oxygenated blood-like fluid.

So the staff has finished getting everything together for us to start boarding. And, I've been sitting in a tube of bubbly blood with my gills out for the last hour as all along the walls of the chamber I was in were dozens of blue-haired, red-eyed albinos in their own tubes.

Without the anime censoring I can confirm two things. The first is that all of the Rei clones are indeed natural bluenettes. The second is that there's a distinct 'scent' to them that all of the other beings I've been meeting with don't have.

Said sense I think is just my largely human mind trying to interpret one of the senses that devils have. Specifically Soul-sense and it's only triggering thanks to Rei's very large, very unique soul. Well that and the fact that there's a touch of pseudo-divinity to her/them.

...

With a slight bit of pressure and a subtle green tinting to my vision I settled in for a long trip.

N/A【Slattern Vitae Constestant-verse #3027】

I hope to never go through that ever again is my only thought as I puked up glowing blood and foam. Landing while in liquid suspension was one of the worst things I've ever experienced and it left me very disgruntled and nauseous.

It reminds me of my teenage years when I went scuba diving. God that was while Grandma was still alive, that woman was fearless. She'd try anything at least once from candied scorpions to eating pickled eel or vinegar stingray. Any time she could she'd be out travelling and collecting knickknacks whether it be Grand Canyon rocks to lake weeds from Niagra Falls.

But the story that closest matches my experience in that landing would have been during that scuba dive. Imagine just floating calm as can be in the water like ten to fifteen feet down and then you start sinking and sinking fast like a chain grabbed you and is intent on dragging you into the inky depths.

Now you just managed to kick that chain off and you pulled a rapid ascent device that then yanked you from deep underwater to the surface. But it acted like a hook being dragged through your stomach. All that's left in your immediate future is the sickness from the bends.

That is a life story from when I was 14, and I'm confident that this bit of history while being the closest thing was no where near how bad the last hour was.

The physical signs were bad enough that I almost fully burned down the room. I Phenex burned so bad that they had to evacuate the surrounding Rei tubes while drowning me in flame retardant.

My body and brain are hale and hearty, but the mind. The mind is where my issue lies as I'm just supremely nauseous, and that sun is making it worse.

I hated the sun in my old life for how much it burned my digital screen adapted eyes. Now with my DxD devil genetics I ha... like the star-gem.

I was looking right at the gem up there eternally locked in a noon-time position and I had zero issues. That right there is a true miracle as just going outside on a cloudless day used to be pure torture.

Sure I was no longer J, but rather for now I was Riser Phenex, till I changed that.

I was awake an saw my reflection in Nuwang's office, and I could clearly see that my black curls with some salt in there had been replaced with anime spike blonde hair. Well, that and my brown eyes had been swapped out for bright blues.

Even undergoing surgery while conscience didn't quite strike me as much as this one moment did. After all I know I had health issues based on the almost hundred pounds I gained within a few years of leaving high school. I managed to drop half of that weight over the following years but it left damages.

Some of my dreams would just be a healthier body and a healthier mentality to enable consistent exercise.

Just laying down in the equatorial blue belt and being able to stare directly up without eye pain drove it home.

That little thing, just being able to see clearly that which I used to hate was what did it. Not the nauseating landing or the surgeries before that. Satan's Balls not even the meeting with Nuwang drove it home as much as this did.

I really wasn't home any longer, and this being the start of a new life has to now be accepted as the truth.

"Oh God." Right devil now and that's steam coming from my head. "Uhrghle"

I was efficient with Slattern Vitae but both the Puer Magica and the Supervillain CYOA's weren't selected for pure efficiency nor were a couple of the SL rewards.

...

Wait I said blue belt. If this is an earth like one shouldn't the grass be green.

"Hey can I get an answer for why the grass is blue?"

One of the technicians helping to setup the habitation compound came over with a tablet.

"So, Riser, you know how you suggested we use a Greyspace Star-Gem for a miniature star?" I had to give him a nod as I do recall that.

"Well, when we found them it was revealed that each one has a boundary that sits above their surface regardless of size. A little bit of testing allowed us to color and tint the shell in such a way that the radiation peak is formed, shifted, and enhanced through magi-tek based lensing. Us mucking about let us color code this sphere to give the planet two frozen white polar regions that extend into a red border region that encircles both of the Artic Circles. And finally sandwiched between the two Artic Circles and straddling the equator was a single unbroken expanse of blue foliage and green seas. One of the student assistants said that it reminded them of some world named Namek."

Sitting down next to me he showed me a picture on his tablet that displayed a breakdown of the world. "While the image isn't to scale it does serve its purpose, that green dot is us. And, across from us and where we are are two oceans we're calling the Crescent Seas. Where we are is essentially an island dead center of the Southern Crescent and what we'll be calling 0° longitude and 0° latitude for this world and is where it will build out from as you settle it outside of your upcoming 30 seasons. Some of the settings will be in this open world and some will be in isolated habitats Truman-style. Those domes will be relatively close by the initial settlement. We got a circle marked over there on the other side of the clearing and that'll be where your Dungeon Seed gets planted. After that true 0° long and 0° lat will be centered on said location of planting."

Expanding the hologram, Jack... That's his name. Apparently my brain now being a Devil's had their infamous gift of tongues though it apparently takes time to analyze new languages. Unlike the speech only version from DxD and the D&D spell Tongues. I seemed to have gained the ability to read other languages like through the Comprehend Languages spell.

Right, need to stop getting distracted, Jack was still showing me something involving the hologram. Though I had questions, specifically ones related to that Truman comment.

"You see that little ring there? We have it sitting roughly a million klicks up from the surface thanks to grav tech. From the jeweled center to the 'surface' or sea level is 4.55 million klicks, I'm sure you remember that part from the briefing you received. That ring serves as a portal between Slattern Vitae's home offices and your future endeavours for the next 30 years and the even further future as long as the offices stay allied."

I had like ten minutes alone to think or nap in my case before I got interrupted. I can't help it though that sleep is just so highly relaxing and comforting compared to what it used to be. Though the intruder this time was Sin-Die carrying a tablet and set of pamphlets.

Her throwing the first item onto my lap was what woke me up from a small nap.

Stretching out with a yawn I forced myself to acknowledge her before I fell asleep again. Just laying their on the grass was better than any bed I ever experienced before. "Huh, oh hi Sin-Die. Dammit I need to get ahead of surprises like that since sloth is not something I need if I want to succeed with my life in this game. So, Sin-Die what you got for me now?"

Crossing her arms to enhance her already prominent assets I could tell she was ignored, especially since her tail was slapping the ground a little aggressively. "Riser Phenex, I had expected better from you."

Huffing she put her arms down and leaned forward like a tsundere. "I thought you were smarter than that, after all what the hell is up with your Puer Magica and Supervillain choices? What kind of idiot Devil decides to copy a heroic magical girl like Mami Tomoe? Sure you expanded on her weapons, but really why? And, Don't get me started on the mess that's your villain selections."

Scratching my cheek in embarrassment, I clicked my tongue in thought before responding. "Cli-k. Well I figured magical ribbons that have high defense would combo great with my chain artifact. That and I can turn them into more direct weapons. I mean Mami used magical and single-shot muskets and cannons like a Touhou boss▶️. I figured that there was just a limitation on her imagination and skill, after all why couldn't she use pistols. Or, with a bit of focus pull a Black★Rock Shooter with their gatling guns▶️? Hell's Bells, SIn-Die with a bit of a twist Mami, Black★Rock Shooter, and Touhou's nuclear birb Utsuho Reiuji are almost identical to my build."

Tapping my nose to both give me time to think and tell her to wait, I continued after a bit. "As a Phenex I got the fire that can be trained to match the nuclear bird-brain. All I would need is a cannon to channel with. Black★Rock has such a cannon and she even uses chains like Mami uses her ribbons, and I can use my chain. Well I have some chain control to be honest, but that can be remedied. The only difference separating Black★Rock & Mami from being twins is their palette swap and the guns. Mami uses swarms of single-shots and Black★Rock uses her gatling."

"So there you have it Sin-Die, I used Mami as a base and twisting the illogic of magic and Devildom I can use the potential of my family to ascend to Utsuho's level. That means that through channeling my selection of mirroring Mami and my new bloodline to tie all three potentials together, based on the Law of Similarity."

Huffing at my impecable logic she just dropped down next to me and draped herself over my shoulders like she did when we discussed contract options. Though in this case it was more like she was just laying down on my back as I was resting on my front to read the tablet.

Said Tablet was a drag and drop setup for the various hub levels for my next 30 years. the most interesting thing though was that the Gauntlet had a final level which would finish my contracted Slattern Vitae run. Well that and the alignment levels had to be run in sets of three based on one of the two axes, such as Good-Evil, or Lawful-Chaotic.

One thing that was immediately obvious was that I had the freedom to snag additional docs to flesh out the levels. Though I was restricted to just the generics regardless of me designing a level around a better jump.

Oh, and I see that my challenge selections and Benefactors are in play at this time.

Well that and I did end up with a modified Hellchain as a result of some sorta Karmic Debt.

Oh, and I see that my challenge selections and Benefactors are in play at this time.
Well that and I did end up with a modified Hellchain as a result of some sorta Karmic Debt.
...
For now I'll just set up my level order.

The order that I chose was mainly done so I could get through things fast though it did bring up a few issues. The first is that each level had its own individual pool of options that I would only get when I started that level. Oh and each level being a 'Tutorial' level means that I enter each level with only my base, and non of the rewards get kept until after I finish the final task.

And, they're serious about that 30 year thing. Each level will last a year regardless of deaths. In fact I'd be respawned with the active time paused while dead, and the scenario would restart.

For maximum training I'd need to avoid lewds and focus on progressing as far as possible during a run.

Actually scratch that I don't need to avoid lewds or my Slattern Jobs since I grabbed such options as All the Time You Need which means that lewds and hours on schedule don't count against the level timer.

Especially since time during either lewd events or work hours fails to pass. Meaning that If I went to work at 9am and did a full 8 hour shift I'd leave work at, that's right 9am. This essentially means that as long as I perform my job successfully I can multitask to plan things out.

Thankfully my job options will play nice with my levels and I did manage to confirm that only the lewd time outs won't count towards the level time limit. That means I can get a free 8 hours a day to advance the 'plot' and finish any specific level.

Internet Celebrity, just means I need to be one of those vloggers, and treat my life not as a reality show but more like a vlog. This pairs well with Professional Gamer the best, as I am now a Twitch live-streamer and am guaranteed to make money off of it. All of the other ones though make good options for behind the scenes specials and documentaries, especially the ones involving my work as a Super Villain.

Being a Puer Magicus just means I'm a magical warrior, which means that as a Super Villain or a Dungeon Lord there's a heavy amount of overlap. I mean all three synergize to guide me into pursuing life as a Magical Overlord with his own fortress.

That combined with the exploration tendencies of a Dungeon Delver means I have an excuse to go exploring in the different settings. Whether that just be exploring for its own sake, or on the hunt for new & interesting artifacts.

So there you have it a reordered list of lives I'd end up running for the next 30 years.

"Hey Sin-Die, so what's going on with the vampire? I should have seen them by now shouldn't I? I mean I could understand if a Hellsing one failed thanks to my fire-blood, but not even one of my backups was grabbed. After all how hard is it to grab a Wamphyri leech or a piece of Vampire Intelligence. I mean you even advertise Hellsing as an option alongside using Buffy the Vampire Slayer's demonic ones as examples."

Grabbing the tablet from me she took a huffing breath before answering me. "Well, as a pleasure industry titan we take exceptional care of our clients and contractors. That means for health reasons we couldn't ensure that any of you options would survive. And, unlike that Yautja that you torched before the show even started none of the others have killing them allowed."

Sighing and resting her face in her hands "We had to scrap most all of them even before we mentioned the diet shift we were offering. After all apparently your yang sauce I think some old jade prude called it, is so strongly fire aligned that we had to open it to the public. Soul eaters weak to fire need to avoid you, and so do a lot of other ones, even if we were willing to risk souls in this endeavor."

Climbing off my back she slithered to in front of me and waited for a response.

"So, considering my point balance is still a positive 70 credits I'm assuming you did manage to find someone who could handle the heat I output. And, can I get an update on how Kori is doing?" I mean I though I'd have been reunited with her by now, but I haven't been. "And, except for the XXXorg and the Shub-Niggurath cult all of the 'Owners' I selected can be rolled into the adventuring party. Well the cult is a major factor in aiding me in satisfying one of my Benefactor slots, but that party is core to my Dungeoneering enterprises."

Poking my foot with her tail made me give her a glare. She knew my feet were ticklish and I didn't have full control over my sensitivity sliders yet.

"We know all that Riser, and don't give me that look. You chose a team to fill party roles, with vampire tank, a Matchmaking cleric, a bunch of Reis as scouts, and a Succubus scholar. The Cult and XXXorg were selected to serve as merchant backers and as a wider support base. That's not the point especially as you agreed in the onboarding to take the Generic First Jump's Power Loss and Amnesia Drawbacks. Those mean you're going into each level whether that be as a paired or single level as a blank slate. I.E. meaning this'll be the last conversation we have before you go through a bunch of series pilots."

"Give me a moment to check things with Kor'Ai's handler." While checking something out on the tablet, I had to admit that the swaying Sin-Die was doing was adorable. Even if it did remind me of one of those snake charmer dances. "Right Kor'Ai has been mostly learning how to function as a management A.I. for an empire. Some of the levels she'll meet up with you but she won't be able to provide spoilers to the outside, once you enter the dome."

"All you have to do is walk through that door after the light turns green to get us started."

Getting up I walked through the door only to find myself faced with a very intensive memory dump.

...

Detective Jones 'Rising' Pence, ■■■■■ PD, sat at his desk and stared at the photo of his fiancée Renee Green... his dead fiancée. She was Jones's tragically lost love, the spark that saw a youth from the wrong side of the tracks give up a life as heir to pursue an honest life. She'd passed in a drive by gone wrong, with no clue who was the perps behind it, Jones turned to the Blue side to get revenge.

One of the very first he did before leaving the Dark side behind was to interrogate his old family to see if they were responsible for his loss. After that he threw himself into work and in typical action / crime dramas he rose the ranks for his dogged determination in combating crooks. Even as his odd off the book methods for handling his work set him back and saw many reprimands. All of those extra-difficult and very sensitive cases, where conventional police methods had already been tried and failed, required a special breed of cop to deal with it.

It was learning that literal ugly bastards, or the Ug'Bas as they called themselves, were competing with other factions for social control that crippled Jones's ability to handle things.

...

I closed my eyes and groaned, rubbing my temples vigorously to try and clear the sudden migraine that lanced through my head from the temples to the back of my neck. Slamming the photograph of a woman I'd never actually met facedown on my desk, I sat back to have a think.

Specifically how much this scenario was pulling from my memories.

Jones 'Rising' Pence, was clearly a Riser Phenex look-alike, with Renee Green being a clear Rias Gremory clone. Though one with more modest assets, and a bit more of a backbone than the slothful and hopeless devil heiress who'd rather spend all day dreaming about having a dashing knight come in and solve all her problems.

Hell my team was a modified setup of the Party I had set up.

Snow was the hotshot token female nerd, i.e. the Abby, though she had an unhealthy fascination with freezing people and seeing them bleed out. The Rei clones were a set of triplets who managed the office and research divisions of the office. We also had a very flamboyant team member who liked to flirt with everything on two legs.

One of the cases we had opened and seen silenced by the higher powers involved a certain fertility cult that had infiltrated a place in the middle to upper echelons of the city. They were one of the factions that were at war with the Ug'Bas.

...

Thank god I had the day off to get my bearings.

I mean what in the name of His rotten Morningstar is up with this backstory? It was utterly nonsense to me what this life was supposed to be about. It was like some idiot took a bunch of crime dramas and then through in an NTR Counter-NTR subplot.

I was just thankful that after this I was going to lose the mental biases and traumas that these levels would spawn.

Right now though I was dealing with having had the memories of a different life being jammed into my meat space without warning. Jones was a man with a troubled past but had moved onto new and brighter pastures only for the darkness in life to drag him back with a vengeance. His grief and rage at the entire traumatic experience had fueled his transformation into a man on a mission. It was shocking, it was melodramatic, and it was very not me. And now I was going to spend a year or two with this just lurking there in my hindbrain. I did not look forward to finding out what actions it would impel me into that I might or might not have done if I were still my baseline, pre-jump self.

...

Having taken a day to get myself sorted out, well at least enough to step out of the door I found myself behind my work desk where I started cleaning out some of the memorabilia that I had collected over the years. Well that and sliding my fiancée's things into a decorated box in one of my bottom drawers.

The job was not that challenging even if I was playing as a human instead of my hard-earned devil one with all sorts of Slattern mods. Just from the Gen First and Gen Virgin Jumps I discovered I had quite a few things going for me even if some of them had woven themselves into my background.

After all I was now always good at self-motivation at least when focused, though that had been upgraded by a new immunity to boredom. I know had the mental oomph to pursue long stakeouts to hunt down and destroy the masquerade. Though that all paled in front of Seek And Ye Shall Find, which massively upped my ability to track leads while boosting my luck in finding trails. Well that and my talent for finding a conveniently located Security Pass to infiltrate clubs that certain targets liked to hole up in.

My skills in tracking and locating culprits paled in my ability to draw out accurate confessions from lengthy interrogations, where all I did was talk them. Just talking honestly resolved like more than 80% of my cases while letting me sort between honest convictions and false testimonies. All I had to do was subtly suggest that those individuals I was talking to that they should answer with the truth. Well that, and that they should offer up info after a token defense. I'd then use my tracking ability to hunt down any proof there was to confirm my confessions of either guilt or innocence.

Such a combo while somewhat unethical was horrifyingly useful for any detective. And, in my case it earned me the nickname, 'Silver-hound', a shortening of 'Silver-tongued Bloodhound'. That talent propelled my rise from a rookie team leader to having my team also having seniority.

The team's performance was so legendary in that crime drama way that we had such leeway with things like procedure, our hours, or acting out. It was especially dramatic that we had an almost flawless run, batting almost a full thousand. The other teams only had something like a two in five success rate.

Although I'll freely admit that I used my Cult connections to ensure our convictions stuck, even as I tore down the Masquerade that covered them. All the Time You Need was definitely hauling ass with how it let me engage my team and supporters, and informants in funtime activities while leaving enough time for day-to-day tasks. Nothing short of bitch-slapping the Mayor on live TV could get us fired, and even then if we could get the evidence we could even get away with that.

After almost two long and full years I received notice that I'd be coming out of the simulation in a few days. And so, dozens of murderers and robbers and rapists and conspirators and so forth later, I finally finished my time here. Though I did succeed in those two years exposing the Ugly Bastards who wanted to propagate the NTR system across the US. That and crippling the international human trafficking syndicates they backed.

I wrapped the level up by taking on an undercover mission and then leaving too have an incognito binge of epic proportions. The only reason for taking that mission was that I knew I was leaving the office for good and that I'd almost certainly never be seeing them again, even if they thought I was just going to be out of contact for a little while and could get back in touch with everyone later. Since, even if I couldn't tell them about the Jumpchain, that didn't mean I had to be a dick about it.

I did learn how to use my perks and hard-earned skills in ways that let me manipulate my team into letting me control things.

My exit from the level was to come too in a large stone room filled multiple copies of me all standing in a ring. Each of us had a large stone door behind us and a small chest high pillar in front that told us to about face and enter the door. And try and find our way to the opposite side of the spherical maze.

The last thing I heard from Sin-Die was. "All you have to do is walk through that door after the light turns green to get us started."

Getting up I walked through the door only to find myself faced with a very intensive memory dump.

...

At least it was just a minor bit of pain though that probably had something to do with the bottles scattered around me. The most immediately striking thing besides the stench of booze was the feel of long greasy hair and the overwhelming feeling of being heavy.

No, they wouldn't.

I specifically designed my new hellforged body to never be obese again. I put almost a hundred pounds on in the first few years after highschool, and before getting yanked out I'd only lost half of that. My weight journey was 165 at grad to around 280 in four years and down to something like 225 pounds.

Now though I could tell I was massively overweight from a combo of this body having had little exercise and an addiction to higher calorie alcohols. It was truly starting to seem like a living nightmare from my old life. First I hated the health issues that my time being severely overweight for a 5 foot 8 incher American. And the smell of alcohol used and sadly still does make me extremely nauseous.

...

Except for randomly attracting oddly sexy people intent on stuffing me full I spent my time trying to end myself and ended up spiraling into a deep depression.

The only light was a beautiful maiden

I mean even when struggling to lose weight I still loved to eat since my tongue was always my strongest trait. It was very discerning and could handle a wide spread of flavor profiles, and I was absolutely in tears with having learned that this fat pigs love of the drink had ruined my palette. My sense of taste had died, gone, kaput, adios; this would be a dark two years.

My depression was such that I experienced multiple resets. This sadly was a world that had decided to leave the porn-logic off and my depressed obese self rapidly ramped up in collecting lethal medical complications. The rate that this killed me would only speed up as time went on, after all I was on the level of obese that I couldn't get any access to my privates for some pleasure.

My exit from the level was to come too in a large stone room filled multiple copies of me all standing in a ring. Each of us had a large stone door behind us and a small chest high pillar in front that told us to about face and enter the door. And try and find our way to the opposite side of the spherical maze.

I was even more depressed to note that I was the only obese one of the 19 of us that were standing around in the circle. Only one other was even a little overweight and he was the ragged mage boy.

There was a number sitting on my pillar that mocked me for my failures.

That number was a damningly depressing 💀78💀 deaths.

The last thing I heard from Sin-Die was. "All you have to do is walk through that door after the light turns green to get us started."

Getting up I walked through the door only to find myself faced with a very intensive memory dump.

...

I had a day downtime to get my bearings before I had to start school again. That should have been my first clue that something was wrong, after all every other upset had me waking up in a medical room lately. Well, thanks to how I'd landed my powers were suppressed by something.

My theory was that there wasn't enough Magic in the air to support my new powers. I could still make small sparks, and I healed at an observable rate. Oh, and with a bit of concentrations I found I could summon up a single-shot pistol from behind me, though it would disappear a few moments later.

Going to school as a transfer student was fun.

For a month until the other part of this level set in. One of the big things that a few classes from multiple schools were doing was a structural engineering project. We were as either individuals or as a whole responsible for forming and modelling an island.

Given free reign saw multiple variations rise to the leader board. The top was like someone saw the Raccoon Hive from Resident Evil and decided to one up it in complexity. Another contender had it be a more extreme version of the Lara Croft 2013 series with ancient temple-cities hiding advanced technology behind aged stone. A few popular ones seemed to be horror games that were based on 'myths' that people wrote and designed for the island.

My take was a fairly advanced agrarian city designed for maximum isolation and the ability to manufacture its own goods.

...

Guess what they designers for this level took and ran with.

Just guess, since it did explain where my handlers had wandered off to.

...

It was like someone had the bright idea to do a multi-school Battle Royale mission to a zombie infested island. And it had the same goodies as the manga, a death collar and a survival kit.

The zombies were played by the XXXorg with Rei playing the part of 'evolved' zombies.

My succubus turned out to be the teacher after being hit by something after we landed. She was especially difficult to handle as she would lead succubus hunting packs to strike at not just us but all the other classes as well.

If a class was roughly just under 30 kids then there were almost 900 kids strapped with det-collars from 32 classes on this island. We only came to that conclusion since the collars had numbers on them with the lowest in the class being 848 and the highest being 876. My number was 872 for those wandering, and that number came to be true in a more profound manner later on.

That ancient cult I'd agreed to take on had decided that one day a week was not enough for them and designed a massive ritual. That was the story about what turned an island into an infested hive of eldritch walking dead.

Man the show creators really were dedicated to the themes. We lost people pretty quickly with no way of avoiding it. The det-collars just like in the second movie▶️ had a pairing function where those wearing them couldn't stray too far from one another.

And the callous idiots did the pairs in groups of five such that mine was, 871, 872(me), 873, 874, and 875. It meant we lost four people from a group of 29 highschoolers all before even reaching land seeing as we were in a set of rafts being dragged towards the island by the current.

Let me just tell you that I'm supremely smug about making sure I never touched the drawbacks. After all when you have as much CP coming as I do from the challenge and Olympian Chain combo, why risk your life grabbing at life riskers.

...

I forced myself to stop caring about these people by the time I'd been reset for a baker's dozen to that morning on the beach. Over those days spent looping I think I've determined two things. The first is that the collars had a range of only 50 meters as I was careful to test, and only gave a two minute warning before popping the whole group. Second I think this is a literal siege scenario where hundreds of students have to brave the zombies to bust into a fortified structure and eliminate an unknown amount of hostiles.

It took surviving a week on low rations to figure out that I wasn't having hunger pangs. Now any survivalist will tell you that that's a major issue. But, I'll get to that in a moment, later I need to talk about a hideously ineffective strategy that the government in this setting was doing that I needed to cover with the other team leads.

The governmental brass had given a random selection of goods from f'ing toilet paper to ak's and shoulder mounted rockets. Oh and knives, lots of knives, enough to arm every one with a few regardless of their size. That and if just one team mate died within two minutes everyone else in the five-man team would be dead as well.

I hate this with a burning passion, looping back is nice the first few times but it wears on one's sanity and forces the growth of emotional calluses.

Regular calluses develop and grow in response to the need to protect tissue from being rubbed raw and worn down in a weak spot until it cracks open and bleeds. Grow too little and a body lives a life of torment from being rubbed raw and dying of infection. Too much though is just as dangerous since the thick calluses will slowly twist the body out of shape or trap them in a layer of bark like skin.

In an emotional callus the premise is the same. Not enough and you get the bleeding hearts, people that are dangerously softhearted and can be taken advantage of constantly. That and they just get worn down to the point giving up, a prime example would be Euphie from Code Geass. Just ignore the mind control aspect, she was already on the road to heartbreak.

Too much emotional callus and you might as well not be living. A heavy emotional callus individual might as well give up and join the Guardian's Third Army or Starlight Glimmer's Our Town. By stopping yourself from feeling emotions you give up on life and might as well just become an automaton, just another unthinking cog in the machine. But at least you have some agency.

...

No, if those emotional calluses grow too thick to even be functional they'll cripple you to the level that Adam wished for. Rendering a human into something incapable of empathy.

Much like a lot of things in life it's all about moderation. You need just enough calluses to get through life without shutting down. And, a potentially even more important thing to keep in moderation is one's ability to empathize with others.

Too much empathy and you break the woobie and too little and you turn into Palpatine minus the wrinkles and cool Sith powers. Just utterly callous about the lives of others without the ability to even relate to any loved ones, nay to even have any loved ones.

...

I think I understand the point behind this level. It's to teach me that I need to check my hubris before it fatally wrecks me.

Well that and an intensive workout for my largely atrophied social skills in a leadership role. I'd been in my old life largely a follower though I was a good team project lead. So outside of a 4x game I was largely useless on a tactical/strategic level.

Give me a fully controlled self replicating swarm like a commander would have and I'd be golden. This though is a slap to the face saying I need to have some diplomacy skills to get others to cooperate with me seeing as in the competition I've been entered into I'll need to manage and lead an empire in war against my peers.

...

This was not a fun time as I had to essentially sacrifice a lot of the survivors to becoming virtually chaff all as the government started bombing the island from the beach on inwards. I mean it'd have made more sense to use bunker buster munitions then just nuke the island. but no we had to have an idiotic action movie thing happen.

My exit from the level was to come too in a large stone room filled multiple copies of me all standing in a ring. Each of us had a large stone door behind us and a small chest high pillar in front that told us to about face and enter the door. And try and find our way to the opposite side of the spherical maze.

There was a number sitting on my pillar that told me the number of lives it cost me personally to learn to beat my own hubris..

That number was a damn impressive 💀872💀 deaths. Pretty good for a non-stop grind of suicidal charge mechanics and time exploits.

Looking around I noticed I was only one of two school boys here, though the other seemed to have a mage hat on. Lucky ass, it also almost certainly makes him the most visually dangerous of us. After all it means he kept the majority of our new magic powers. There was also a giant greasy almost spherical one that reminded me of Robert Earl Hughes, the first living man to be listed in the Guinness Book of Records for his weight.

Unlike Robert though this version of us was a depressed ball of lard. I mean during his time he was the heaviest human on earth. And, unlike most people of great weight now a days, he was not bed-bound, and he holds to this day the record of the heaviest human to walk. This Riser though was on the immobile and unhealthy amount of obesity. Robert had a peak weight of 1,071 pounds and was only brought down by a case of measles. Hell he was so mobile that he served in the army for twenty-one months while weighing 700+ pounds. The man was a literal sumo and if he'd joined the mob he'd have been a real life Kingpin.

The only other notable individuals were a trio of silhouettes that had resolved into a trio of blonds. There was some idiot in a full suit of paladin armor, I could feel the holy energy just buffeting me from being in the same room, and I was mostly human this go around. No clue how they got a devil into that get up, nor the one he was chatting with. That was a priest who in D&D terms served a good deity like Pelor or some such. And we finished off with a Ranger in typical forest greens, with a bow and yes that's a bear in a suit of armor.

Turning towards the door to give it a look. I noticed that there was a fourth spot that had suddenly materialized there and it was slowly filling in.
