Carrier Wave [Digimon/???]

[x] It's a small, black dinosaur. Whoa, those are some teeth, though.

we've met the gururumon of this story, someone needs to take up greymon.

[x] It's a... living candlestick? Wait, but there's a flame on its head, too.

Hum. This seems like an interesting battle system, though more than a little intimidating to actually make plans for.

[x] It's a... living candlestick? Wait, but there's a flame on its head, too.

Anyways, sustained damage and assassin is... Uh, certainly an interesting combination, but I like sniper/burst. It fits together better. Plus, lets us work together in the same role if we go down the Sinon route. You can't really engage from stealth and distance if one of you needs to get up to melee, right? :V

Or we could sword/board ourselves and have Candlemon provide the deeps if we're worried about things getting in close.

Close to Champion, huh? Dunno how we end up deciding what they evolve into, but... Looking at the wiki, Meramon's the obvious evo, but I'm real interested in Wizardmon. That mon could bring in a lot of general utility. Magic coding, eh?

Yes I have a theme I'm sticking to here. We're playing as a Sinon expy after all and funnily enough this is a valid route for both Blackagumon and Candmon.

Unfortunately, not many Ultimates seem to believe in focusing heavily on ranged combat. The plebs mostly seem to decide melee is where it's at.

Hopefully we get some idea of how to guide digivolution soon. I'm assuming we're gonna need to nom on some Machine or Cyborg type digimon to go this direction.

1.4 - Candle.mon / DemiMera.mon

It's a... living candlestick? Wait, but there's a flame on its head, too, and there's a face there. You look at the face on the flame, then at the one on the body, then back to the flame. Which one are you supposed to look at..?

"A Candlemon, huh?"

"You were right, Yuki; it's a Child, after all."

Candlemon shakes its body, shedding dim sparks from its flame. When it speaks, both of its mouths moves, confusing you even more. "I'm not an 'it'. Stop talking about me like I'm not here."

Yuki and ShadowGarurumon trade glances, and you shake your head.

"Hi, I'm Shino," you say.

"I know. I was listening while you were getting me out of that egg. Which I have these two to thank for, too, I guess." Candlemon looks at the two of them, squinting. "I'm Candlemon, and I prefer the male pronoun. I'll also prefer it if you didn't lump me in with others of my species."

"Huh?"

"He means he prefers to be referred to as a boy," Yuki chimes in, nodding. "Sorry about that. It's rare for a Hacker's Digimon partner to be able to speak."

"Yeah," ShadowGarurumon adds. "I don't think we've met any other ones. So it's gonna be nice to finally have a friend, huh?"

"It's nice to meet you, then, I guess." It... He? He turns to you. "And let's work well together, Shi--no."

"Um, yeah. Please take care of me, Candlemon."

"Likewise." Flexing his arms, he winces. "Some--thing's a little bit uncom--fortable, though."

What's wrong with him? "Are you okay?"

"Oh, right. I just remembered..."

"What is it?"

"I'm--" Candlemon freezes mid-sentence, even his flame going immobile like a statue.

"It's lag," Yuki tells you. "He's probably going to de-digivolve shortly."

Sure enough, Candlemon's body begins to wither away, turning into a white light that slowly fades away, receding into his head and leaving behind only his candle flame. Or, well, you suppose it's just a floating fireball with a face, now.

"Ugh." Two tendrils of fire snake out from his underside as he slowly bobs in the air. "Great. This is just great."

"Huh? You transformed, Candlemon."

He sighs. "It's DemiMeramon, now."

"Heh. You de-digivolved, little guy."

"Oh, shut your trap, wolf-face."

"Calm down, boys." Yuki interrupts. "Let me explain."

"Yeah, you tell her so I don't have to."

"Right, so... I'll make this short. So, Digimon can't enter or stay in our world that easily -- that's why you don't see Digimon wreaking havoc in the real world very often. Our Digimon partners are a little bit different; the Digi-Egg forms an anchor, so to speak, allowing them to follow us around the real world. But this comes at the cost of an energy upkeep at the Hacker's expense, even if it's on the Digital Plane like we are now."

"So Candle--DemiMeramon is being like this because I can't supply enough energy?"

Yuki shakes his head. "Outside combat, Digimon don't actually cost a lot of energy to materialise. The problem is that most Hackers aren't naturally strong enough to anchor more than just the Digi-Egg. That's another reason why Hackers need a Digi-Beetle -- not only does it help you fight Digimon, but it also supplements your connection with your Digimon partner."

"You're gonna need to upgrade your Digi-Beetle's memory circuit if you want to maintain Candlemon's Child form."

"We'll show you where to do that later."

"Let's get that done sooner than later, then. This form is... stifling."

Yuki nods. "You can probably materialise your Child form briefly, if you need to, but it may damage the Digi-Beetle and have side effects on your Digi-Egg, so..."

DemiMeramon huffs an annoyed breath. "Just in a pinch or as a last resort. Got it."

"Right. Let me show you how to get back to the real world."

You take one last look at the rubble and destruction from the fight. Are you really going to be experiencing this on a daily basis from now on..? Now that the urgency you recognise as digital hunger has passed...

You clench your fists to stop your fingers from shaking.

You don't know.

Parameters

Every Digimon consists of data aligned towards VACCINE, VIRUS, and DATA.
This composition of its dataset is known as its
Parameters, and defines its combat tendencies.

VAC improves a Digimon's durability, allowing it to tank more damage and continue fighting.
VIR improves a Digimon's mobility, allowing it to move faster and with greater precision.
DAT improves a Digimon's energy efficiency, allowing it to fight longer, and with greater potency.

As a
DATA-Attribute Digimon, Candlemon has most of its Parameters aligned towards DAT.
Its
basic attack is also dependent on DAT, as it freely conjures fireballs to launch at its enemies.

The
Parameters of a Digimon also affects its abilities in various ways, which in turn changes its style of combat, and the way it uses those abilities in a fight.
Abilities

□□□□□ □□ □□□□
Candlemon is a unique, autonomous instance of its species.
Candlemon can act independently, maintains a passive Energy regeneration, and has modified Abilities.

STATIC this ability is unaffected by Parameter changes.

Fight or Flight
Candlemon's mobility and reaction speed increases the longer it spends in combat.
STATIC this ability is unaffected by Parameter changes.

Molten Wax
Candlemon can store several globs of molten wax. Throwing them deals splash damage and creates sticky wax puddles that damage and slow.

VAC increases puddle duration.
VIR increases reload speed.
DAT increases damage.
Karmic Flame
Candlemon goes invisible, leaving behind a cloud of flammable gas.
Throwing a fireball at the cloud will
detonate it, creating an effect similar to flashbang.
While invisible, Candlemon gains increased
mobility. Not usable while under attack.

VAC increases size of gas cloud.
VIR increases speed bonus and decreases cooldown.
DAT increases duration of stealth and gas cloud.
Light Sniper
After channelling briefly, Candlemon emits an incredible beam of light, dealing massive armour-piercing damage to a target in its line-of-sight.
When hit, the target will
shine brightly like a beacon for a few seconds, and Candlemon's Fight or Flight maxes out.

VAC increases duration of illumination.
VIR reduces channelling period.
DAT increases damage.

Candlemon is a CHILD-Stage Digimon, and has 15 total Parameters.
While there are no hard mechanics in this quest, these numbers will be used to estimate what happens during combat.
As a DAT-Attribute Digimon, DAT must be Candlemon's highest Parameter, although this may be tied with other Parameters.
VAC and VIR must be at least 2.

[x] 2 VAC | 5 VIR | 8 DAT
[x] 3 VAC | 6 VIR | 6 DAT
[x] Write-in.

While in DemiMeramon form, Candlemon has access to □□□□□ □□ □□□□, Fight or Flight, and 1 (one) Ability.
DemiMeramon cannot use Light Sniper.
Additionally, Parameters are downgraded proportionate to his Candlemon form.

I hate to disappoint you, Gene, but due to plot reasons I'm probably locking in Candlemon's digivolutions to Meramon, Wizardmon/FlameWizardmon, mayyybe Soulmon... or I'll let you invent some options that may fit the theme once they're revealed IC, I guess.

Sinon isn't gonna go melee lol.

[x] 2 VAC | 5 VIR | 8 DAT
[x] Molten Wax

My reasoning follows thuswise: As a sniper, we want to optimise for damage and mobility, and unless I am missing something, we would not be able to detonate the cloud left behind by karmic flame, or even do anything aggressive in baby form. Thus, Molten Wax seems inordinately more useful in that regard, as much as it doesn't fit without the candle bits.

Standing almost twice as tall a man, it's a rooster with its tail fanned out behind it, resembling ivory blades tipped with red like fresh blood. It shrieks as it stomps out of the wreckage, then focuses its gaze on you, squawking rhythmically.
Walk intoi the digiverse like, "whatup, I am a big cock"!

...That's actually quite admirable, in a world full of rogue Hackers who abuse their power for their sadistic pleasures. But you wonder if he really has no ulterior motive. Still, best not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Although it's always good to at least check if it's full of greeks.

"He may not look like it, but he's actually pretty reliable."
"Asada Shino. Please take care of me."
XD. I see what you did there. Little artifacts as if it had been translated from Japanese.

"Let's get that done sooner than later, then. This form is... stifling."
Honestly, I like our little flame dude better without the candle bolted on, but that's just me.

Also, if, like me, anyone doesn't know all the digimon off by heart, this is our dood:

Your baby form shoots fireballs as a basic attack too, so you *can* do the stealth-flashbang trick.

What? :V

Let's edit option 1 a little.

[x] 2 VAC | 6 VIR | 7 DAT
[x] Karmic Flame

DAT should be the highest, but if we're gonna go in on a low-durability build, probably best to also have high mobility to not get hit and all.

Meanwhile, flashbangs are good for getting the heck out of sight and moving to snipe again, yeah?

If it wasn't clear:

Candlemon
Gets all Abilities incl Sniper.

DemiMeramon
Gets Flight or Flight + 1 Ability, no Sniper. Basic attack is mid-range fireball. (About 10m or so I guess) Downgraded stats from Candlemon.
