The rest of the night went much the same way, me telling a story after grabbing some ice, leaving Frisk's body as soon as the ice was gone because of Chara telling me to give Frisk's body back. After a few more hours I called it quits on telling a story because I was starting to stutter and forget some parts. Along with getting the throat sore again, kind of knowing it would result in not talking much tomorrow. Morning. Whatever. Then we spent the rest of the night gaming.
Because the next thing I knew it was morning, light streaming through the windows. I blanched a little at that fact but we just kept going because I wasn't tired and they didn't seem so either. A while after it and switching through various things they had on the phone, the door was knocked on before having Marquis pop in. Since we had migrated to the bed after a while he spotted Frisk playing on her phone, on said bed. A small smile and he offered, "Hungry for some breakfast?"
Huh. We did just spend an entire night without eating, awake. Yet I didn't feel hungry, or at least not until I realized I hadn't eaten. Weird.
Frisk nodded, sliding their phone into their pocket and sliding off the bed to follow Marquis. Me and Chara both followed after, it being an uneventful trip to the dining room again, the only difference being me massaging my throat a bit. Note to self, cut down story time to like two hours only. Entering Frisk sat down in the same seat again, along with Chara by her side as Marquis had just told her to wait. Then he left out the same way again, not towards the kitchen. Amy still asleep?
I moved to the other side of the table, like yesterday, and made to push out the chair because it was too close to the table for my liking, instead having my hands just pass through again. Muttering a large amount of curses to myself I just used the chair as a step onto the table and laid down on it to wait, humming to myself. I stopped humming quickly because it was irritating my vocal chords. Though Amy quickly arrived with Marquis, her rubbing away sleep from her eyes.
She took a seat at the table and Marquis asked, "So what does everyone want for breakfast?"
Amy answered with a yawn. "Pancakes please."
Marquis looked to Frisk. Frisk responded with a nod and a "Pancakes."
Marquis nodded and walked off to the kitchen to make said pancakes as asked. Amy was half asleep still from just waking up so didn't do much more besides sit there with an occasional yawn. Kiddos not doing anything on their part either, everyone at the table just kind of silent currently, one asleep, me with a sore throat and kiddos just used to being quiet I guess. It all made me awkward a bit so I just tapped the table in a steady rhythm, Star Wars with a bit of gentle humming.
Marquis cooked quick enough that I didn't notice much of the time passing and he came back with some pancakes. Some were laid out for Amy then some for Frisk. Followed by everyone eating. Amy slowly begun to wake up as everyone ate. Which begun with more questions that hadn't been asked last night. Making me chuckle a little. Frisk answering all her questions without much hesitation, Marquis getting the now 'clean' plates and leaving for the kitchen once more. Frisk just kept answering, at least until Marquis popped back in the door. "Amelia, sweety, remember that Jean is coming by later to take you to school." He smiled to Frisk. "And do remember Frisk you're welcome to stay here as long as you want, there's some food in the fridge if you get hungry."
Frisk nodded happily in response. With that Marquis took his leave, making me wonder whether or not the kids would actually wait or stay here. Probably not. As Marquis left though, Amy asked a question that Frisk didn't quite immediately answer. "Do you want to go to school with me?"
That got Frisk to sorta freeze up, and respond with a ever so eloquent "Ummm…"
Amy frowned a bit, "Aw come on it'll be fun to go with my new friend, I could show you my teachers and some of my other friends!" She said excitedly, a smile coming back to her face as she finished.
Frisk responded with a sigh and an "Alright." Didn't sound so eager there, but well most people can't say no to a face like Amy's. And what I've seen of Frisk, she kind of lets others choose. Or Chara just likes to take charge vocally. Maybe both. Looking at Chara she just seemed bored.
I shrugged as Amy hopped up and down excitedly. "Oh great, great, great! We're going to need to get you some school stuff, come on there's some in my room!" She chattered as she ran around the table and grabbed Frisk's hand, pulling her along the way, Frisk offering little if any resistance. I slid off the table as Amy dragged Frisk to her room in a hurry, just slowly walking behind them both. I noticed Chara going at the same pace, the two of us ending up getting dragged instead of keeping pace.
"Going to guess you two don't like school?" I asked Chara judging from her face, leaning against the barrier instead of walking still.
"It's boring." Chara replied. "The only good bits were recess."
I chuckled a bit. "My schools were never really boring. Well except for high school because I didn't have to worry about the freaks from middle and elementary school." I paused for a second before chuckling again. "Funny thing is kids are worse bullies than teenagers in my experience."
Chara just shrugged, going "Eh."
We stopped being dragged making me think that we arrived and I walked the rest of the way to just watch Amy start grabbing supplies and shoving them into a backpack, excitedly chittering about each item. I took the more or less silent opportunity to ask, "Well what was your school like?" Was kind of curious.
"Show up, teacher talks, lunch, recess, teacher talks, go home." She listed off in a bored tone of voice.
I hummed an understanding, coughing a bit. "Wanna hear a bit of a stupid story about some of my schools?" I asked, thinking of some stupid thing that happened back in my earlier grades.
"Sure." She answered, turning to face me.
"Alright you know how teachers are about having you read all the time right? Best thing for a student to do in their opinion?" She nodded. "Well used to be I didn't have friends so I'd just read. Day in and day out, during lunch, recess, after tests and so on. I'd have the best grades from just reading, but apparently I read too much for the teacher's liking because they eventually banned me from the library or reading anymore." I said with another chuckle, that part of the story earning a small smirk. "Anyways so as I was unable to go back to the library anymore, I started bringing some from home. The teachers were a bit stupid because they couldn't figure out where I was bringing my books from, before eventually figuring it out about after a week. I got in some trouble of course but it was kind of hilarious with how they couldn't figure it out, along with reading being bad all of a sudden now."
"People are idiots." She agreed with that small smirk still there. I nodded as Amy finished packing the backpack, completely overstuffed with things, before saying something about getting lunch. Then once again grabbing Frisk's hand and dragging her after her again.
I'm sure I had some other stories along those lines that could get a smile. I thought it over as we were dragged again by the barrier. "Yeah but those teachers were a special kind of stupid. Example, there's so many bullies I used to have I would have to get in a fight at least once every two weeks. Mum tried to make them actually do something about it by saying that I had full permission to fight them with the bit of Taekwondo I knew. They responded by blaming me and sending me to anger management." I rolled my eyes. "Funny thing was the people there just let me do what I wanted because they said themselves that I didn't have a problem."
She was quiet for a bit, before responding "I got in fights too. Was suspended once, after I accidentally bit the jerks ear off." She sounded a tad nervous.
I paused for a moment before looking at her a brow raised, seeing maybe a bit of nervousness? "Like how much of the ear?"
"I'mmm not sure." She responded, dragging out the 'm'. "Maybe half?"
I grabbed my ear slowly, rubbing my hand over it, thinking of what is half of it. "Bloody 'ell." Lowering my hand I shook my head. "Most of my fights ended in stalemates or me putting'em in a chokehold. You're actually the first person I've met that's actually bit someone… kinda weird and cool at same time." I said to finish it as Amy arrived in the kicthen and started grabbing all sorts of food.
She responded with a non-committal "Hmm".
I shrugged, watching Amy try to slather a sandwich with peanut butter. "I only remember ever drawing blood twice. Once by accident when some kid jumped head first into my raised golf club, ended up splitting his head open. The other time being when I was a bit high on ADHD meds. A note," I said looking to Frisk. "Don't let Frisk get ADHD meds, that fucks up your mind a lot."
She looked at me confused "Why would they get ADHD medicine?"
"ADHD is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Meant for hyperactive children that don't do as told, overprescribed in the Americas, where we are currently." I said reciting some info as I remembered it. "Basically for a large amount of children or what not it's people who can't be bothered to treat their kids right. My case it was a bad psychiatrist if I remember correctly, the meds elevating some chemicals and made it so the slightest things would piss me off and send me into a rage. When I wasn't starving due to me feeling full from said meds." I said watching Amy finish packing a bag for lunch and grab Frisk's schoolbag then dragging it to the door.
"Alright," Chara continued "But why would Frisk get those? They aren't exactly hyperactive or overly disobedient."
I shrugged. "Say kiddo has trouble focusing because she ain't good at math, they can and may probably have teachers try to prescribe ADHD meds. In 'Muricah all we care about is fast food, guns, eagles and drugs. Emphasis on the drugs." I said with a laugh, it turning to a cough halfway through. When I was done coughing I frowned. "Eh Ma is right, I am a bit of a pessimist."
"Well I guess that's one thing different about your world, they care if you are paying attention." Chara replied.
I looked to her again as Amy kept blabbering about something, still dragging Frisk around. For what now, I'm not sure. "Only if you're in a good school. Hell I got in fist fight once with a football player in the middle of a classroom and the teacher didn't even bother to get up until other students tried to get in the way." I nodded to Amy. "Example she goes to a good school, full of money and political people. They care. Shit schools do not."
"Would they care about us? We don't have any of that." She asked skeptically.
I blinked and raised a finger to answer, then paused with it in the air. Humming for a moment I answered, "Worst case get kicked out because you're not registered as a student. Best case is they don't ask because Amy is the daughter of a very rich influential man on the surface, who is the most dangerous crime boss in Brockton Bay to the criminal world. Not sure how much Marquis is watching his daughter, could very well be a few thugs as employees or something there." I shrugged. "A good number of factors that could change their reaction." Coughing a bit I added, "Something to deal with when the time comes."
She gave a small nod, that being the only signal she had heard me. Amy finally stopped running around and seemed to look for the clock, letting out a cute little 'eep' as she saw it, yelling something about the time before dragging Frisk to the front door. I rolled my eyes at how Amy was reacting to bringing Frisk to school, such childish bonding between crime boss daughter and someone with a past of Frisk's, before coughing again a bit. Fuck my throat. And to think I'm looking at somebody who I'm pretty sure killed the entire Underground. And Saved it. Such power in such a young lass.
Thinking for a moment about said power and Worm I thought of some useful people and how they could work with the kiddos, making me wonder of them ever relying on anybody. Judging by a simple idea of staying a Marquis' house I wasn't sure what to think. "How are you two with teamwork by the way?"
"It's usually just me or them doing stuff." Chara replied.
I frowned to her as Amy reached the front door with Frisk and bags in two, quickly darting out the front to a waiting car. I think Marquis said it was some guy named Jeff?. "Not really answering my question."
"Probably because you asked it wrong." She quipped.
I rolled my eyes as the Jeff guy opened the door for Amy and Frisk, finally walking forward since I didn't have to chase a hyperactive six year old now. "Anyways reason I ask is because there's a good number of people that could be useful for stuff." I said slipping into the car and facing them from the front seat. "One being Mouse Protector, can teleport to location she's touched along with other people if I remember right. Chevalier being able to use certain characteristics of his weapons and switch them out. Both great heroes, not douches or freaks like the other powerful people. Mayb Lung, though he isn't much of a team player it might be worth it since he solo fought Levi for a few minutes." I think Lung was triggered by now. Pretty sure. Kinda hard to think and ignore the chattering from Amy to the Jeff guy.
"And what would they get out of helping us?" Chara asked skeptically.
"Lung not really much, for the powerhouse he is, he's difficult to handle. The other two are heroes though so they wouldn't mind helping a kid with heroing, hell they'd enjoy it. Mouse Protector for sure, if I remember right her shtick was annoying every enemy with puns and hammy jokes like an actual comic book hero." I said slowly, scouring my brain for information considering she was kinda dead by story start. "Plus they were both kids when they started heroing, so beyond the usual stopping villains thing, they'd be tutoring a new person." I said matter of factly, leaning over the front seat to look them both better in the eye. "But teamwork I meant for the big freaks you need help to get close to, the Enders."
Chara still looked skeptical, but answered "No one helped us before, we handled everything ourselves."
"I merely need to point to the car to show you that isn't the case here." After thinking for a few moments I continued with a bit of a wince. "And not to be a mean and remind you, but the happy ending for everybody before was seven dead humans. You guys being the last."
Chara frowned, and responded "It's not like we got any help before the Underground either, why do you think we went there?"
I froze a bit at that, looking away a bit uncomfortable. Didn't make sense to be more uncomfortable than her regarding their past. "Err…" I stuttered there. "Yeah… suffice to say without really any concrete info I can say you two were not given a proper life."
"Proper or not, it was our life. And I see no reason that Humans would suddenly start treating us better."Chara answered, turning to stare out the window.
I glanced to Frisk for any kind of sign or help, but got no help since she seemed to be paying more attention to Amy. I just scratched the side of my face a bit, not quite sure how to respond to that. "Err what about me? I mean I'm trying at least right?" I asked haltingly.
"You're one of the exceptions. There are a few good Humans, Frisk being the perfect example." Chara replied without looking away from the window.
I frowned over the seat. Such a pessimist at this young of an age? Fucking hell worse than I was and I know what people are capable of, researched that bullshit. "Going to guess Amy and Marquis are exceptions too huh?"
"Amy's a kid, hasn't had time to turn sour. Eloi, haven't figured out his thing yet, maybe wants us to entertain his daughter." She waved towards Amy.
And those were the only two examples I really had to argue with, everything else just being hearsay. Lowering myself down the seat slightly I sighed. Fuck how am I supposed to change that worldview? Can't think with Amy blabbering away, because fuck I forgot how annoying kids are when trying to think. Looking up and at my ghost hands for a moment, I realized I could get some air easy. Using the door as a footstep up, then the seat as another footstep up I grabbed through the roof and pulled myself out. Not like I could see the conversation going anywhere currently.
Out in fresh air, whipping at my face, I slowly begun to pace the roof, problems going through my mind as I stopped trying to ignore them. How reality isn't reality currently. Me with game characters in a book. I pushed those two big issues to the side to think on the kids. Me and Nick had talked about what the kid's life was like before but that didn't help me much if at all. Just know that their home family was shit for both, both driven to Mt. Ebott. They didn't know proper hygiene for injuries, al that showed was they didn't get taught advanced health stuff.
I mean what could I do to show them they're wrong with the shit life they've had? Without the ability to do anything without running it by them. Along with Chara not liking me in Frisk's body from what I could tell. Severely, very fucking severely limited any options I could think of. So the rest of the car ride to Amy's school I spent pacing and trying to think of what to do for the kids, it being limited options. Kids don't count, Eloi is just 'using' them, I am an exception and I feel as if other good people might be exceptions too. It was irritating me slightly to be honest, because it would be one fucking thing to be leashed to them with the fifteen feet range, with my own body. I could still do things, make a real difference in the real world beyond just suggestions.
But here i just feel like a fucking NPC, the tutorial guy that gives you an idea of the world and you're supposed to leave behind. Except I'm not left behind, I'm being tugged along, nothing to offer but a few smiles every once in awhile. Kind of good for them I suppose but it didn't help me stop feeling useless. By the time we did arrive at the school, I had thought of nothing I could do, just hopping down when Jake stopped at the entrance, Amy opening the door for herself and Frisk.
Out came Amy first, chattering away about how Frisk would love school with her, Frisk smiling despite or due to being tugged along, Chara following looking bored, the Jake guy waving bye to her as he drove off. Then I paid attention to the gaggle of kids swarming into the front doors, or rather courtyard of the school. A fancy brick wall around the school, with the main entrance being into a garden like spot, the children miraculously not trampling any plants. Well mannered kids wow much. The building itself being two storied, brick worked with some red and blue paint, for some reason, and all the children entering being well dressed ones.
The kids went straight into the gaggle of children going into the elementary while I was forced to try and avoid all of them, because hell did it feel weird for them to be walking through me, Chara just floating above the chaos. I was actually kind of successful with slipping between pairs or groups of them and ducking under arms. But I still felt a disturbing tingle as I was forced to go through some of them. Thankfully we got into the school building quickly with Amy dragging Frisk to her classroom. It's been awhile since i had only one classroom for the entire day. Amy sat Frisk down beside her near the front, quite close to the teacher's desk.
Looking around it was a well decorated elementary room, Abc's running around the room near the ceiling, a lovely looking chalkboard with a rainbow of colors for chalk. Hardwood desks that were free of markings. A nice blue color on the walls. Lesson plans for the day, I think, written in clear legible writing. A nice place. One too nice to not ask where the random kid came from. Frowning I sat on one of the neighboring kids' desks thinking of what would be right for taking care of that question. Maybe half-truth of the fact they're from street and were invited here by Amy? Sure will attract attention but not as much as some other answers.
It wasn't long before the classroom filled with students and I was forced to vacate my seat as some kid threw their backpack on the desk, scaring the hell out of me at first. Shortly after an adult arrived, a modest skirt and vest jacket thing, not sure what they're called, as her attire with a blonde ponytail draped over a right shoulder. Making me think of a businesswoman rather than a school teacher. Is this what a fancy place is like? She waved to all the students as she entered offering a, "Good morning everyone." To them all. Which they returned in kind.
She however paused, catching sight of Frisk near the front of the classroom, lips pursed. But to my surprise she walked on to her desk and laid down her bag to address the class and start giving a lesson plan. That being a simple set of math warm up questions, that she started handing out to everyone. At least for everyone but Frisk, stopping in a kneel next to her. "May I ask who you are young man?" She asked with a smile to Frisk.
Amy interrupting first with an excited, "Her name's Frisk! I wanted to bring her to school to show her how much fun we have." She finished with a naive little smile.
The teach smiled at the answer but looked back to Frisk. "Well where do you normally go to Frisk?"
Oh fuck you teacher, couldn't be something simple today? Why not just ignore the random kid like every other school does? I sighed looking to Frisk and Chara hanging over her shoulder, floating again. They should be good liars considering the Underground and going through it so many times. Right? "Don't." Frisk happily chirped in response.
"Oh for fuck's sakes." I muttered with a facepalm, not seeing whatever the teach's reaction was to that inane statement.
"You don't go to school?" She asked. I removed my hand from my face to see her with a concerned frown just as Frisk shook her head no in response. "That's not good, it's important to go to school. Who are your parents?"
Do not fucking tell the truth to that for god's sakes please. I held clapped my hands to get a bit of attention before Frisk answered. "Don't answer that. Just uh fuck say you're a street kid and Amy invited you here or something like that. Do not want to say anything about world hopping, trust me." I said with a pinch of the nose's bridge. Because fuck it was going to raise questions and fuck Frisk over a bit, but better than actually answering the questions.
Frisk dutifully answered "Street kid." I raised my head to see the results of what I said, out of the corner of my eye seeing Chara looking at me with a funny look. To which I gave a very exaggerated shrug. The hell was i supposed to suggest?
"Oh." The teacher let out with a disturbed expression, before putting on an uneasy smile "Well, it's nice to have you here." She stood up and strode fairly quickly to her desk before picking up the phone and began dialing some numbers.
"Fuck's sakes." I said out loud when she began dialing.
"Probably would have been better to just tell her the truth. Not like they can contact them." Chara said.
"Which would lead to them trying to figure out why you don't have paperwork, just showed up out of nowhere, the fact these parents don't exist around here or anything. And Frisk seemed like she was going to tell the truth which was going to be world hopping. Which is not something a kid of all people should say." I said rubbing my temples. "That was the only thing I could think of an explanation right then."
"Please, give Frisk some credit. They know how to not answer questions." Chara said. "And we don't have paper work either way, and we'd be gone before they could ascertain that the parents don't exist."
I frowned at her and thrusted my arms at Frisk. "The credit wasn't given because she told the teach that she don't go to school. Something you never tell a good teacher!"
"Frisk doesn't lie. But they usually don't need to. Because, even if we made up a different school, we'd have to get lucky at naming one that exists, and then there's the fact that they don't go there. And so what if we don't go to school, they can't give us detention, and it's not like we are coming back."
"No but considering the fact that I lost credit in Frisk's ability to answer and the truth would have pointed to powers, thus the fuckers PRT following you guys, you have to understand I panicked a bit." I said with a slight sigh.
"That's fine, but trust them in the future." She responded, rolling onto her back mid air and began staring at the ceiling.
I just massaged my eyes as the teacher hung up and resumed teaching class, giving some work to Frisk too. I just looked at it wondering whether to offer help before deciding it was easy enough Frisk could handle it. Then I just focused on what to do now because I know for a fact that phone call was to some Gov guy.
Sighing at the idea of sitting in school with nothing to do I looked up to Chara just floating there staring at the ceiling. "How do you float anyways?"
"I got no body to hold me down." She answered smoothly.
I cocked my head at her, that pun working in there quite easily. I forgot she was supposed to be a pun kind of person. "Jokes like that float your boat then?"
"They help keep my spirits up."
Smirking slightly I said, "Well light humor is good for everyone."
"They'll never get me down."
"Great for escaping the gravity of a situation." Looking up at her just floating there I swear I could see a smile on the side of her face. Not sure though.
"As long as you don't fall for their tricks."
"Even then it keeps my mood up." Okay haven't met someone in a while that likes puns without the cringing bit, so I did not have that many in mind.
"They're just trying to get a rise out of you.."
I slowed down a little to think of something, it just being a slight difference to hers. "I'd rather say they raise my hopes."
"Without them, my spirits would drop."
And there I paused because I was out of ideas of what else goes up and down. Fuck. Chuckling I folded my arms behind my head. "Okay I'll fold and be crystal clear, I haven't had to compete puns with someone who rocks at them before and yours are gneiss unlike the other people I talk to. You win." Her maybe smile turning into a definite smile as it got bigger. Not that I'm not going to sneak some in near the end because you don't know geology. A few moments of silence and I realized she wasn't going to actually answer me. "So uh seriously, how do I float?"
"I told you." She answered, rolling back around and facing me. "We got no body, we're ghosts, gravity doesn't affect us. So, you just float."
"And on your first day you just thought, I can float now, and thus started floating ever since?" I asked skeptically.
"Well, not first day. Didn't realize I was dead." She said scratching her chin, before shrugging "But otherwise, yeah. Same with going through walls, and what not."
"Well what the guy not used to magic and BS is asking for, is advice on how to do the floating bit." I paused for a moment before adding. "Please."
"Well, how do you go through walls and stuff?"
"I grab the other side and pull through while still being affected by gravity." I said switching feet. Hated standing in place.
"Yes, but how." She stressed, turning and stretching her arm so that she was resting her hand against the table beneath her. "Why can you sometimes lean against them, and sometimes go right through." She started sinking demonstrably, hand going through the table. "What do you do?"
I paused there before shrugging. "I don't know, I first did that when I thought everything was a dream."
"But you can still do it, despite knowing it isn't?" She asked.
"Well I wouldn't say knowing. But yeah."
"So how do you do it? Would you describe it as 'you just do it'?" She questioned, leadingly.
I scrunched my face up a bit. "I uh guess?" It being more of a question than an answer.
"And that's how you float." She concluding, nodding. "Don't know what else to tell you, I just do it." Suddenly she was gone, and I heard "Same with shifting." From right behind me.
Which made me jump away from that spot with a, "Fucking christ!" Because goddamn if that isn't a jumpscare. Complete with the jumpscarer now laughing. Frowning at her there I shook my head. "Yeah well that doesn't help cause it's one thing to just do it when you treat it as 'hey it's two game characters, let's see what fun we can do' and another when you're just… whatever I'm treating it now." Sighing I scratched my head. "Still not sure what anything is."
"Well, we are still two game characters, right? And what else are we to do for the rest of ever besides have fun when we can?" She asked, floating back up to her normal position. "Just gotta be sure to share the fun."
I sighed at that and just asked, "So that's all you can think of as advice?"
"Yeah. Try to figure out how you do one ghost thing, and then apply it to other ghost things."
I frowned and shook my head, "Well thanks anyways." Like that would fucking help me any. She didn't respond any and just went back to staring at the ceiling while I had to deal with the fact there's fucking nothing to do here besides think. Which wasn't fun I thought, sitting down against the teach's desk. How does one ignore critical thoughts of their own? Stifling a yawn I let my eyes wander the room, forced to think on my situation, making me grimace at my own thoughts.
It was fun sitting on my ass forced to think on things.
Eventually the ticking of the clock garnered my attention, it just a steady ticking and tocking that was just audible over the sound of the kids and teaching. Humming a bit I focused on that, it being a thankful distraction. "Tick. Tock. Tickity tock. Goes the clock. Along with my mind. Me alone. Gone from my kind." Tapping my fingers on the ground I just shut my eyes and tried to ignore the thoughts in my mind. "Me alone, on the borderline.." I trailed off, never having really added more to that song, it always being different every time.
I kept humming as I just tried to let myself drift off for a bit because fuck this, sleeping was better than just thinking on this all.
I don't know how long I spent trying to sleep with thoughts nagging at me and just making me frown or grimace at how close to reality it could be, such as just being a schizophrenic now or the fact I really am gone with Mother still having cancer, but something interrupted my wanting to sleep. Creaking open my eyes to see what it was I saw...
[] A casually dressed guy squatted down beside Frisk. "Hello how are you doing?"
[] The teacher again beside Frisk saying, "Excuse me sweetie, could you please accompany that nice man to the office?" gesturing to a casually dressed guy.
