But Doctor, I Am Pagliacci [DC, Joker, AU]

It's okay. Seems the whole world is shuttin' down due to this virus.

For what it's worth, I'm happy with the update rate. Even if the chapters don't have much, they come frequently and with a certain regularity to them.

...You know, despite the fact that we got the Poison Ivy chapter not too long ago, the idea of Soylent Green minions never even occurred to me.

that explains a lot about how Lantern escaped, and everything else going on.

I hope the double posting rules are liberal enough to allow me to separate this from the main body text, since I didn't want it to turn up in threadmarks or reader mode. Anyway, for anyone reading this as its posted, rather than catching up or skimming later - due to COVID-19 disruption, I haven't had much free time or headspace to get writing done. I might still get a post up on Friday, but subsequently I might need to push a brief pause button for a week or two. I hope you're all staying safe and are doing well. Please do take care.
Double posts are pretty liberal, don't think I've ever seen anyone get in trouble and if anything users seem to be more afraid of it than the mods care to enfore.
They especially won't care when its an OP giving an informational update on progress.
Good luck, stay safe too.

Pause in writing is perfectly understandable, given global state of things, yes.

Stay safe, Acyl.

Authors and QMs pretty much get a pass when they're doubleposting for structural reasons, and having an Author's Note be in a separate post is pretty common.

I hope things get better on your end!

Now we see what Ivy has been up to. Awesome! Looking forward to what's next, but don't wipe yourself out @Acyl we understand. Take care!

I'm legitimately puzzled how someone mantling Darkseid, the ultimate slavemaster, didn't set off ALL the warning bells in Bloodwynd's gem when he approached him to join the league.

"Mantling".... uggh. No, that's not a thing.

Carrying on from that...

Bloodwynd doesn't canonically have a lot of characterization. He didn't have many appearances and most of the ones he did have were technically the Martian Manhunter pretending to be him. I don't think we even know his real name! One way to go with him would be to keep in mind that it's his ancestors who were slaves and created the Blood Gem, not he himself. How much does their experience actually matter to Bloodwynd? Does he carry that weight with him, or is it something that happened to a bunch of long dead people he feels little connection to, other than that they're the source of his powers?

EDIT: Come to think of it, we don't even know it's the same Bloodwynd as the nameless one who appeared in comics. It's consistently stated that the Blood Gem was created by a whole group of slaves, many of whom probably had descendants. It's possible that Lex "arranged" for the Blood Gem to fall into the hands of a descendent of a totally different family line from the Bloodwynd we know, as limited as our knowledge is of that guy.
