Utilizing your contacts with the media via Margaret and social media accounts thanks to Bridgette's social influencing(?), you were able to get a rousing number of young men and women lined up outside your park waiting for recruitment. Unfortunately, it seemed to be too many, and for awhile there, you were lost amidst a sea of applications, loud-mouthed explanations as to why they should be recruited, and macho posing from many a person.
That is until Nicole stepped into the fray.
"CADETS, ATTEN-SHUN!!"
You stare at the surburban mom suddenly turned army commando, appearing in a police uniform, and commanding the attention of... you wanna say over a thousand recruits. She showed no mercy to anyone, treating them lower than the dirt beneath her shoes and weeding out the weak from the capable. By the end of it all, you had around close to three companies worth of soldiers ready for training. Nicole promises that she'll be gentle with them. You shiver at the bloodthirsty tone in her voice.
But by far, the strangest thing that came about from this was when you walked into your office one day to find a duck man chilling behind your desk, drinking a soda.
Your face grew red upon seeing him. "Who are you? And how did you even get inside here?!"
"I broke in."
"You WHAT?!"
"Your Park doesn't have that good security. I just walked past a bunch of people on my way here and not one stopped me, not a single one! Some guy even stopped me and gave me directions for this place like I was some kind of tourist!"
"...you're in a public park. Of course he thought that you were a tourist because YOU ARE!"
"Oh. Well, that explains where we're at, then."
"You have five seconds to tell me what you're doing here before I have you THROWN OUTSIDE ON YOUR SORRY FEATHERED BUTT!"
"I'm here about the job."
"WHAT JOB?! I'M NOT TAKING UP ANY MORE APPLICATIONS FOR GROUNDSKEEPING!"
The duck hands you a flier, which you rudely snatched out of his hand. Scanning through it, you see that it's one of the military ad posters strewn up across the City.

"And here's my resume if you want to know more. Got any questions, I'll be in your kitchen. I'm getting a refill."
The duck sauntered out of the room as if he owned the place, making your blood pressure start to rise... until you started reading the duck's resume.
"How the hell is that guy a United States Marine?!"

You decide to give a call to some guy up that Maellard was connected to (seriously, how many people did Mr. Maellard know?) and got put on the line with a bored-sounding secretary, who suddenly perked up when they found out who was calling them. A few minutes of waiting later, and you found yourself discussing the state of affairs with a guy that didn't sound American to you. If anything, he sounded more like a Brit.
He seemed to accept your call as some sort of surrender, which you had to clarify that 'no, I'm making this call to find out what's going on with the government' and he then spent the next few minutes trying to paint out the situation like everything's under control. You just about hung up on him before he casually mentioned sending a liaison to your City in order to establish a better 'partnership' between you and the federal government.
At least you don't have to worry about being kidnapped to some CIA black site tonight.

You can't help but feel that you're almost ready for anything that heads your way.

With everything happening to you and at the Park, you can't help but thank God that you hired Bellum when you did. The woman is an expert at navigating through the bureaucratic red tape and double-edged words that these officials in the City try spinning around you, managing to weed out anything that doesn't need funding (such as a generous $20,000 donation to one City councilor's private garden) and making sure that actual needs are addressed. She can't help but note that many of the City's slums, while repaired, are overrunning with crime gangs.
REWARD: Bellum manages to root out corruption in City Hall! Public Relationship towards you increases by +2!
CONSEQUENCE: Something is stirring in the City's underworld...
In hindsight maybe we should have guessed that "here's the lack of progress on finding all your close friends, boss" might have negative consequences for Benson.
