So far, we are currently tied between studying the Lupines with Rosa Hernandez and repaying Erzulie by mediating between Adze and Horatio Ballard. Would anyone like to change their vote or ask questions about the possible storylines? I can go into some detail without spoiling anything.

What are our odds of getting into a cage match with a werewolf and being forced to work for Amazon, respectively?
It's entirely possible for Artie to avoid getting within reach of a Garou's teeth and claws. While Rosa desperately wants intel on how the Lupines fight, she isn't so obsessed that she expects you to go toe-to-toe with one for firsthand experience.

As for the latter, none of the vampires involved have anything to do with Amazon. Erzulie expects you to resolve the dispute peacefully, preferably in a way that favors Adze without making an enemy of Ballard. Also, would it be too dystopic if Clan Ventrue Embraced Jeff Bezos?

Nah, vampiredom is where real life people go to be irrelevant. It'd be a straight improvement.

So for Rosa, would we be spying on some Garou in the hope we can watch them fight each other in a spar or something else.

Can we get a bit of context behind the territorial dispute?

Rosa has a plan in mind. To find out what it is, you'll have to vote for her storyline.

An old, beloved baseball park has fallen on hard times after years of mismanagement. Both Adze and Ballard want it as a means of expanding their influence over the impoverished local community.

Do we have anything to fear from a group of plucky kids who want to save the neighbourhood park from the fat cat who wants to take over the community?

Fair enough. I wish I had phrased in a way that sounded less like I was asking for spoilers. It nonetheless sounds interesting.

I had the same thought but started thinking of 'The Benchwarmer' Movie instead.

The field in question is not a public park, but a stadium that's home to a minor-league baseball team.
I love how this sounds like the start to some Baseball movie. From personal experience, it's a strange feeling to realize your experiencing a moment that wouldn't be out of place in a movie or sit-com show.

Oh huh, I wonder if this'll end with a deal being settled in a vampire baseball match. Twilight had vampire baseball IIRC.

-[X] Erzulie wants me to settle a territorial dispute between her lover, Adze, and Horatio Ballard.

The balcony overlooking Red No. 5's main dancefloor smells like Isaac Hayes and old Donald Goines novels. From your vantage point, you've got a good view of all the mortals dancing and drinking away their Friday night at the Blood Disco's club. The club's clientele is mostly black, but you think you can spot Bennett Steadman turning the charm on some white girls - his next meals, perhaps?

In any case, Steadman isn't who you're here to see tonight. That would be Adze, the fellow Sewer Rat sitting across from you on a black leather couch. He's dressed in a crisp tailored jacket and trousers that bring out the best of his tall and thin figure, but the real star of his ensemble is the vest made of hand-woven mud cloth. The patterned garment's browns, yellows, and whites create an intriguing contrast with Adze's skin, which is so dark that it's almost navy blue. The Nosferatu vitae in him makes itself apparent through an elongated skull, sunken cheeks, a sharp yet broad nose, and thick lips. If you didn't know any better, you'd say he was a Wolof sculpture come to life.

Adze lowers his round-rimmed sunglasses to meet your gaze, revealing the blindness in his right eye. For a moment, you watch as he silently takes a slow drag from the clove cigarette between his thin, French-manicured fingers. Once satisfied with what he sees, he exhales, letting the smoke out of his mouth as his voice emerges in a hoarse whisper, like a muffled trumpet. Every word comes out in a rhythmic cadence that reminds you of jazz. "So you're the new youngblood Erzulie told me about. Artie, right?"

"That's me," you reply. "Erzulie said you were having trouble with Ballard - trouble that I might be able to help with."

"That's right," Adze replies. However, his voice betrays some skepticism that you of all Kindred might be able to get him what he wants. Still, you're owed some consideration as a Hound with Prince Jackson's favor and a fellow Nosferatu. "But first - drinks."

Adze snaps his fingers, and out of the corner of your eye, you spy two blood dolls stepping forward to offer their wrists to you. You quietly mutter your thanks to the vessel next to you before sinking your fangs deep into his veins. Passion and adrenaline race down your throat, but you're careful not to let the blood's choler overwhelm you. You take no more than a mouthful of blood, but it's enough to take the edge off your Hunger.

Once the vessels' puncture wounds have been licked clean, Adze lies back against the black leather of his couch. "Have you ever heard of the Chicago Blaze baseball team?"

"Can't say I have. Mind if I look the team up?" you ask. Adze wordlessly gestures for you to proceed, and you quickly Google "Chicago Blaze baseball team" on your smartphone as Adze speaks.

"I wouldn't have expected you to. It's not part of the MLB. The Blaze might not attract huge crowds like the Cubs and White Sox, but the team has plenty of local fans within the city."

You nod as you scroll through the team's official site. On prominent display is a recent photo of the players standing shoulder-to-shoulder alongside the team's mascot, O'Leary the Cow. Despite the smiles on the team's faces, they aren't enough to distract you from the disrepair and faded paint of the stands behind them. "Looks like the team has seen better days."

Adze nods. "The previous managers were awful, and these nights, all the owners want to do is find someone to sell the team to."

"Which means there's an opportunity for you to acquire influence over the local kine," you realize. "If Ballard doesn't simply outbid you, that is. Speaking of Ballard, I didn't think he was the type to be interested in sports - at least on this small a scale."

"He's not," Adze snorts. "The fat bastard just wants to slap his name over the sign, thinking it'll get the court to stop laughing at him behind his back. "Me? I think we can do much better than that."

"What's your plan, then?" you ask, intrigued.

"Blaze Field would stay Blaze Field, but there would be a total revitalization. Once my claim is recognized, I'll add an attached shopping center - provide jobs for the impoverished local community."

You nod, sensing that Adze is sincere in his ambition to revitalize the Chicago Blaze and its home stadium. However, you note that Adze hasn't told you why he wants to do so. While it's not outside the realm of possibility for Adze to have purely altruistic motives, you have a hunch that he has some purpose in mind for the team. While your mind considers pressing for more detail, your mouth utters a question. "I don't suppose you two could share the field? Let Ballard get his name out there while you make the money?"

Adze doesn't so much laugh at the idea as bark. "Ha! The old dog would never share if he thought he could have the whole pie."

You can't help but frown. The last time Adze and Ballard vied for the same territory in Chicago, matters got so out of hand, the Masquerade nearly shattered. If you can't resolve this, the Second Inquisition might. "So you want me to help you gain control over Blaze Field without starting a turf war."

"That's right," Adze confirms as he leans forward to stare at you. "So what do you say, youngblood? Think you can help a fellow Sewer Rat out?"

You nod as if you had a choice. A favor is a favor, even if you technically don't owe Adze a thing. Still, the fact that Erzulie would have you repay the debt you owe her by helping Adze is interesting. While you and Sierra are a thing, you're fully aware that Sierra's obligations to Clan Lasombra mean she isn't in a position to call in favors to help you out - not when the Magisters' position within the Chicago court remains as tenuous as it is.

In any case, your first question is whether to ask Adze for the real reason he wants control over the Chicago Blaze. You don't doubt Adze's sincerity in wanting to revitalize the local community, but you also suspect that the baseball stadium is but a means to an end. It might be worth it to lean on your vampiric Presence to get your host to share more detail about his plans for the baseball team. On the other hand, if you're sloppy with using your Discipline, Adze is likely to take grave offense at you trying to sway him through supernatural means.

You could also ask Adze about other matters related to your task: the Chicago Blaze, intel on Horatio Ballard, etc. If you're feeling bold enough, you might even ask your clanmate about his rumored past as a slave in the Caribbean. That said, it may be wise not to open old wounds from a time that's probably best left in the dustbin of history.

Since it's the start of a new story arc, Artie's Health, Willpower, and Hunger have reset to their starting values.

[ ] [ADZE] I'll rely on my natural talent for persuading people. "What's the real reason you want Blaze Field?"
-[ ] I'll risk increasing my Hunger to add two dice to my roll.
-[ ] I'll spend a point of Willpower to reroll up to three dice unaffected by my Hunger.

I think our odds of getting the Blaze Field motive aren't likely enough to bother with. Even raw Charisma + Persuasion has a chance of a bestial failure so there is a possible harm in trying.

I'm blanking on other questions, even with the suggestion to ask about the Chicago Blaze. Don't know what to ask about them.

-[X] What's your history with Horatio Ballard
-[X] How was your last disagreement with Ballard resolved? I know things were turning ugly but I don't know the details of the conflict or how it escalated. Knowing how Ballard might act or react will help me stay ahead on the job.
-[X] What is the probability of third parties getting involved?

-[X] How long have you and Erzulie been together. From what I've seen, it's rare for Kindred to enter relationships.

Edit: Just changed vote after thinking about it some more
Edit 2: Just added on more questions that other Questers made that I would also like to ask

Between Nosferatu metamorphic transformation during turning and Vampirism supernatural near perfect healing. It's difficult to determine what features remain between the transition and what we're collected over time.
-[X] How long have you and Erzulie been together. From what I've seen, it's rare for Kindred to enter relationships.
This is probably partly due to the fact that Kindred technically reproduce through asexual parasitism. Plus the Beast seems to lack the instinctive need to "spread" the species. To my knowledge no one has ever been turned by a Wight.
-[X] Do you know if anyone has ever tried to make a kindred sports league? Or at least a Ghoul one? I'm sure there's a market for former sportsmen some where.

While it's not unheard of for Kindred to organize sports matches from time to time, there's never been a full-on sports league for a few reasons.

One, there are rarely enough vampires within a domain to fill out the rosters. Official Camarilla policy is to have no more than one Kindred per 100,000 mortals but in practice, it's up to the local Baron or Prince to decide how many licks they want stinking up their domains.

Two, even if there were enough Kindred willing to play ball (heh), sectarian politics and good old-fashioned blood feuds would mean at least two would-be players are at each others' throats at a given time, and God help you if the referee has political alliances to consider when calling fouls.

Three, if a mortal catches sight of a Toreador using Celerity to steal a run or a Brujah throwing the referee into a wall, that's one more tip that can fall into the lap of the Second Inquisition. If Kindred really want to see mortals compete at the highest level, they'll simply catch the replay later when they're not at risk of burning to death from sunlight, rather than watch Billy the Hopeless Vitae Addict whiff a softball live.

The more I learn about this the more I'm considering that the first character I play in a VTM 5e TTRPG game will be a former athlete. I really like the tragedy of physically being at your peak forever but never able to play again.

The 1 to 100,000 sounds fairly reasonable all things considered. That be approximately 80,000 active vampires on the planet. Obviously this "rule" is more a guideline but I think for a secret society that sounds reasonable.

That's not even considering that some players are just plain cutthroat and might be a lot more willing to use "excessive" force.

I feel like the safety of the referee and to prevent illegal blood hunts the position of Referee would become an official position in a Prince's retinue.

[X] [ADZE] It's not worth digging deeper into Adze's motives regarding the Chicago Blaze.

As much as you might want to learn why exactly Adze is so interested in the Chicago Blaze beyond uplifting the local community that supports the team, the Hunger gnawing at your insides reminds you that the power of your blood is one not used just to satisfy idle curiosity. While you could try and pry answers out of Adze using your vampiric Presence, the risk and cost of your host noticing your attempts at swaying him with Disciplines is too high. For now, at least, you'll just have to be content with knowing that Adze's plans for Blaze Field will help the impoverished - if only incidentally.

Thus, you decide to open with a safe question. "So, how long have you and Erzulie been together? From what I've seen, it's rare for Kindred to enter romantic relationships."

Adze's face softens at the thought of Erzulie as the air inside Red No. 5 fills with Chicago house music dating back to the 1980s - Ron Hardy if you're not mistaken. Fortunately, the energetic music isn't so loud as to drown out your clanmate's words, nor the genuine warmth and affection in every syllable. "We met and fell in love some forty years ago. I remember how she ruled the dance floor of the Warehouse as though it was yesterday. Imagine my surprise when this beautiful Rose came up to me - me!"

"I can imagine," you say as a detailed portrait of Sierra fills your mind. Before your thoughts can stray too far, however, you force yourself to remain on topic. "What was Erzulie like back then?"

"Back then, she was already a legend among the Unbound and those fledglings abandoned by their sires," Adze replied. "Many had already been made outcasts in life for being queer or having the wrong skin color, and in undeath, they were excluded for not being part of a proper clan. Erzulie and I worked to change things - give them a proper home within the city, you know?"

You nod, humming in sympathy. If the nights following your Embrace had been different, would you have been among Adze and Erzulie's flock at the Red No. 5? "Hey, I feel you, Adze. I remember all too well what life was like when I was still alive and could stand out in the sun. But how does buying out Blaze Field help you provide a home for the homeless?"

Adze snorts - a sound mixed with both amusement and disdain. "As much as I'm sure you and Prince Jackson would love to hear about my grand schemes, forgive me if I don't start blabbing my secrets to the first neonate that asks politely."

You raise your hands in mock surrender. "I hear you loud and clear. Changing the subject, what's the deal between you and Ballard? I know things got ugly the last time you two clashed, but knowing what Ballard might do will help me keep one step ahead of him."

Adze makes a noise of contempt. "Ballard's a rich white asshole and a Blue Blood, besides. What other reason do I need to dislike the fat fuck?"

Adze's voice drips with venom as a French-manicured nail drags itself down the skin next to the corner of his blind eye. You can't help but wonder if the injury came at the whip of some overseer on a Caribbean plantation. If it did, it'd explain a good deal of Adze's animosity towards Horatio Ballard. Still, you aren't foolish enough to assume that your status as fellow Nosferatu would allow you to ask such a personal question so soon.

Fortunately, Adze is more than happy to continue venting about Horatio Ballard. "During the Jazz Age, Ballard tried to take over my nightclubs alongside Capone. At first, they tried to flash cash and offer empty promises, but when I refused, they had their boys bring out the Tommy guns. They failed to drive me out of the game, but I'm sure Ballard would love the chance to even the score by 'winning' control over Blaze Field. Failing that, he'll probably burn the place to the ground just to spite me. After all, he did something similar with Gary's steel industry when he was butting heads with Prince Modius."

"I see," you reply. If Ballard were to come out on the losing end of this dispute, what damage could he do to the Chicago Blaze and the vulnerable community that supports the team? "One more question before I go, then. What's the probability of third parties getting involved?"

Adze hums in thought as he strokes his chin. "If there's one lick that hates Ballard more than I do, it's his childe, the Seneschal. You might be able to get Alan Sovereign to help you if he thinks it'll screw over the old toad."

You nod as you rise from your seat. "In that case, I'll take up no more of your time. Be seeing you, Adze."

Adze
A chained dog.
While Adze is not unsympathetic to you as a person, your affiliation with Chicago's ruling regime makes him reluctant to ally with you. However, once you realize that the Ivory Tower isn't all it's cracked up to be, there could be a place for you among the Blood Disco.

-

You consider your next destination as you slip into the backseat of your chauffeured car. Firstly, there's Horatio Ballard's enormous private estate on the north shore of Lake Michigan. If you were to visit the prideful Blue Blood, you might be able to convince him to come to the bargaining table.

Alternatively, you could secretly work against Adze and help Ballard seize control of Blaze Field. If fortune favors you, you'll have paid off your debt to Erzulie and won the gratitude of one of Chicago's wealthiest vampires. Of course, there's the risk of the Blood Disco discovering your duplicity, but gaining access to Ballard's wealth and power might be worth making an adversary out of Adze and Erzulie.

On the other hand, if you want to give Adze as much of an edge over Ballard as possible, you could visit Alan Sovereign's plush sandstone townhouse in Evanston. If anyone could help you against Ballard, it would be Prince Jackson's Seneschal, a financial wizard in his own right. However, you can't help but wonder about the price you'll pay in exchange for his aid.

Last but not least is Blaze Field itself. As absurd as the feuds between Kindred can get at times, Adze and Ballard aren't just fighting over a toy - they're clashing over an establishment that has been a rallying point for the local community for decades. If you were to gain a feel for the place, you might be able to make a better decision as to who should run the Chicago Blaze.

So where to next?

[ ] [NEXT] I'll arrange a last-minute meeting with Horatio Ballard.
-[ ] Adze may have doubts, but I'm sure I can convince Ballard to come to the bargaining table.
-[ ] I'll offer Ballard my aid in secret. I've got a bad feeling about Adze, and for all Ballard's faults, he's a known quantity.
-[ ] I'll help Ballard in secret. I could use the gratitude of one of the city's most powerful Ventrue.

[ ] [NEXT] Let's see what dirt Alan Sovereign has on his estranged sire.

[ ] [NEXT] I should see Blaze Field for myself and see what Adze and Ballard are fighting over.
