Be Gay, Do Space Elf Piracy, Ride a T-Rex: A Warhammer 40k Eldar Corsair Quest

Also, I've been toying off and on with trying to get an AI image generator to put out some passable art for characters, and while I haven't had much luck with Iranni or some of the others, I think I got a halfway decent-looking Nacinde.

Would folks be cool with me continuing to mess around and try to generate good art for other characters? And, of course, if anyone else finds/generates/creates art that fits for the characters, I'd be open to accepting it as canon. I just want some cool character art, because character appearances are one of those things where a picture really is worth a thousand words.

Also, since I got two pretty good images, which do people like more?
Honestly I like the second pic more. Her face looks a little too caked up in the first than what I'd imagine and the armor in the second looks a lot more refined and a more seamless blend of Human and Eldar design.

Jokes aside, I think it's mostly the white hair that makes her look Sister of Battle-y, since having white hair is kind of their thing. That, and merging human and eldar aesthetics in a way that's recognizably both is tricky.
I'm not hugely into 40k outside of a few quests on SV, but I always pictured the Eldar as having pointer cheekbones and slightly elongated skulls compared to humans

[X] Plan: Here for trade, not bringing anything that looks scary (Grymloq is best boi and wouldn't hurt anyone, ever)
-[X] Grymloq
-[X] Nacinde
-[X] Trix'll
-[X] Rathnait
-[X] Honor Guard

Let's just hope this governor fellow doesn't try and attempt to do a Leia on us or other stupidity that planetary governors do for shits and giggles

Okay, I have to ask. What make you think that her planet has been destroyed?

One of the options in character creation was the destruction of the protagonist homeworld. To me it seems that all the characters in the crew were made with unused options of the character creation.

And i doubt the Imperium would't destroy a planet in wich Eldar and Humans coexist. They did it in one of the Horus Heresy books.

Yeah, like there's the infamous incident at Caldera where Vulkan found Humans and Exodites doing just that with the former worshipping the latter for protecting them against Dark Eldar. Vulkan, having an intense PTSD-induced xenocidal hatred of all things knife-eared, decided to Exterminatus the planet on the spot (but felt bad about it later and swore to protect the smoldering ruins of the world).

More Art

That's a good point, her face is very human-looking. I've tried messing around with a few settings, but I don't think AI is great at capturing that subtly alien air elves should have without pitching head-first into the uncanny valley. Did get a couple more than I liked, though.

Also, as a bonus, I took a crack at Iranni.

On the one hand, I feel like that armor doesn't cover enough. On the other ... muscles.

This is Warhammer and she's a (Space) Elf, armor coverage isn't the most essential thing as long as they look cool and/or sexy. If Kharn and Catachans can get away with showing off his bulging muscles so can Iranni.

Also, she's supposed to have two braids, like so (though maybe less long):

Yeah, even with telling the image generator to do twin braids over the shoulder, it just gives a single braid about half the time. And I don't even want to talk about how many nightmare fuel variants of Nillie I went through. AI has trouble handling normal arms and hands, asking it to change them at all from the norm is just asking for trouble.

Thinking I'll add these to the character pages. Having passable character art definitely helps the cast feel a bit more fleshed out. Leaving Fanya out for now, but she doesn't take her helmet off so...

I like this plan, because it conveys a nice sense of casual menace and diplomacy. Outwardly friendly and not going out of its way to be threatening while having a hint of murder lizard.

A person of culture i see....

Jokes a part, were can i find this AI generator? I havs been searching for a good one for a while.

I've been using Bing Create. I'm pretty happy with the results so far and might use it for a bit more enhancement. Having some images for important NPCs (and/or future crew members) feels like something that would be an overall plus.

It might be useful to ask the AI to draw in a different style. Photorealistic tends to plunge into the uncanny valley way too easily.

I'm definitely still learning to mess around with it and open to suggestions on how to make things look better. Admittedly I'm not expecting perfection so much as trying to capture roughly the right appearance and feel for the characters. "A picture is worth a thousand words" definitely applies when trying to show what a character looks like.

Is there a particular style that works best/people would prefer? Would folks like it if I included a secondary vote in the next update to pick a style for any character images? As long as the final image feels like it captures the character and we don't end up with something that feels off-theme like all the characters looking like Disney Princesses, I'm fine with whatever people think looks good.

No idea what works best. I just go with what is funny.

I messed about a bit.
