Ashes of the Past (Pokemon peggy sue)

Hey, this fic is on SB. Cool!
*Read latest chapter.*
There's relatively few references to other anime! Even more cool!

More seriously, this is a good fic, and I'm glad it's now on SB. The major problem I have with it is the gratuitous shoutouts and references to other shows, especially F/SN. Every time I see Cubone pulling out the RM I get rudely jerked out of the story, and I completely skipped the movie chapter. Despite that, though, I really enjoy this story and seeing an update makes my day, especially if there's a battle scene. You're pretty good at those, Saphroneth.
Irony is, I just today got a review letting me know that the reality marble thing is cool. So, you know... not everything is for everyone. (And I do fully admit that this fic was my first all-up fanfiction to be written, so I was still learning quite a lot about how to write sensible plot lines. The most I did before this fic was, er, short cracky segments.)

You ever going to bring Volt crash back?

Honestly not a fan of SWAT being reimagined- I like to think that humans still have the ability to defend themselves, instead of relying on what are essentially trained attack animals all the time. The Special Weapons Action Team, or SWAT, is one of the better imaginings of this concept- a highly trained force of humans armed with the best weapons and armor.
We do know from Lieutenant Surge that the military uses pokemon for combat, and SWAT is, AFIK, intended to be 'police with military equipment'.

Call me crazy, but I say that a shotgun, which cannot be psychically dominated, incapable of choice, cannot fall in love, and only needs ammo and cleaning, is a better weapon than a pokemon.
A shotgun without a wielder is useless, and the wielder can still be psychically dominated, is capable of choice, falling in love and needs feeding and other forms of maintenance.

As far as military/combat applications go a pokemon is nothing more than a weapon whose wielder cannot be seperated from it and tends to be really hard to kill, which makes them pretty damn good choices for soldiers really, especially when you can provide them with good leadership they can trust.

Which is where the trainer comes in.

Also worth noting is that pokemon of a sufficient level of training and good enough breed can no-sell or dodge most lower-tier weapons (swords, muskets), and can deal far more damage, meaning such weapons would have been seen as inferior and never given nearly as much effort for improvement R&D as in real life.

Why use a 19th century rifle when you have living directed energy weapons? Why use a bayonet when you have a Scyther that can do the job better? Why use a grenade when you have an Electrode that can do the job better and do it repeatedly? Why spend time and resources making mustard gas when you can just use a Koffing? Why use a gatling gun when Machamp can probably deal more damage with a volley of punches?

Out of curiosity, did that review indicate that the reviewer knew where you were taking the idea from, or did he/she think you had come up with it yourself? Because I have to agree with Phoenix, that sort of thing completely jars me out of any immersion I had in the story.

I quote:

:I think I love you for the Fate/Stay Night reference, I got it right at 'I am
the bone of my club'. Best laugh I have had in a while, excellent story and
writing as well.

The shout-outs do grate on me a little in particularly reference heavy chapters, like the movie one, but most of the time they're fine.

The movies are what make me keep up with the anime, because most of them are awsome, with personal favourites being 2000, heroes and mystery of mew.
Pretty close to the edge of necromancy. Check the date of the last post next time, please.

What would that be, close to the edge of necromancy? Thread CPR, or Thread Defibrillation?
Maybe... thread screaming and shouting for someone to pay attention to it before it bleeds out? I dunno, my definition of necromancy depends on my mood and how much I like the thread in question.
