Ascent: Fiendish Redemption Quest

Is the event already chosen on a table?
If not, a double-edged 'gift' that ties into the critical failure of the attempt at the Forbidden Word would be interesting.
Wicked power at a cost, that's very tempting to use?
Dude you got event 99, the second best event for you in the entire quest. It's overwhelmingly positive for you.

Gift from a Friend
That night as you rested, something happened, like a bright flash or a sudden loud noise your senses were overwhelmed by... something... something powerful... something that knows you.

You see the Temple, your vision spinning as you view the main chamber filled with lights, your sight being sucked down into the center alter, you see the tunnels, you see dark shapes slinking though the shadows, preparing to prey upon those who lie above. You see the souls of the lost, trapped to wander twisting halls for all eternity, and a great temple deep within, your mind fills with pain as you look upon it, as if something was watching you and trying to force you away.

Then you are pulled from the darkness and dance amongst clouds, feeling a warmth from the sun upon your skin. You feel a contentedness unlike anything you've felt before in your life. A great temple stands before you, and you feel something, calming and quiet, barely a whisper, calling to you from within... and it's voice is familiar...

I'm counting on you... Please don't give up.
A deep sadness fills you at the sound of the voice, tears fill your eyes as you are bombarded with strange feelings not entirely your own, but not entirely not your own. You feel the loneliness of the voice, and the joy that you can hear it.

Stop him... Free me...

Then you are in the Spire once more, confused and breathing heavily, tears streaming down your pale face, what was that? Who was that?

And remember...

And why do you feel stronger?

I will always be with you...

Select one evolution trait to gain for free, normally you are only able to obtain one after defeating one of the Seven or an equivalent evil being, but this event is special, all of these traits can be upgraded.

[ ] Psychic Claws
- Your claws have developed a cutting edge that strikes and the mind as well as the flesh, enemies that are struck with them will receive a -10 on resistances against mental effects.

[ ] Pyro
- Fire is in your soul, and you have learned to harness it. You can now produce flame at will, allowing you to utilize it in combat and gain a +10 to all actions involving fire.

[ ] Lay on Hands
- You now wish to help, and your touch now beings aid where once was harm, you can magically heal one person on your turn, lowering their injuries by one level of severity.

[ ] Sacrifice
- You wish to protect those close to you, no matter the cost to yourself, when an ally is harmed you may choose to be injured in their place.

Ooff, good choices all.

Psychic Claws fits well with who we are and our fighting style, but also only useful in combat.
Pyro isn't as immediately relatable to us, but no one likes fire being thrown at them, and upgrading it to Holy Fire would be pretty dope.
Lay on Hands. Nothing makes people more inclined to like us than being able to soothe their hurts. Plus it's magic, so probably less complications post-healing than mundane treatment would give.
Sacrifice is an interesting route, but besides Solomon, we don't really have anyone we feel strongly enough about or is pivotal enough for us to intervene in that manner. At least to my recollection.

I'm leaning towards Lay on Hands. Most immediately and widely useful.
After that I don't really care whether it's Psychic Claws or Pyro. Maybe if we ever stopped failing to improve our martial arts...

Agree. Healing is useful and, if Solomon or another ally get hurt, could potentially save them.
