[] Freezer Burn
"Time to wake up, Ice Fairy."
You opened your eyes fighting off the haze of sleep. Drugs were pumped into your system to get you operational, feeling the distant dreams you clung to become nothing more than a fog in your memories. A gasped filled your cockpit as you started breathing deeply, your head hanging low as you grit your teeth.
Your augments responded to your machine booting up as well. Your senses heightened, your nerves were on fire, the Armored Core you resided within answering your routine diagnostics. Then the questions bubbled to the surface of your mind, through the numbing routine.
How long were you out? Where were you now? What was going on?
Then you recalled the voice. It was your Handler.
"Did you have a good sleep? I hope you did. We have a job for you."
"Brief me," you replied as you raised your head as the cameras outside your machine fed straight into your augments. What your AC saw, you saw, the link between you both stronger than ever.
The Gardener, as she called herself, seemed happy that you were finally responsive, "It's been 36 days into our contract and you've excelled so far in your probationary period. This will be your final test. Our liason from the Yakumo foundation has directly handed this job for us. The local criminal syndicate of 66-G has acquired several salvages of Psyche Transports and have been caught intending to sell it to the corporations. You're to destroy those transports and eliminate any hostile force in your way."
"And then you'll tell me where the Raven is?" You asked her as you glared at the window display of the Gardener's insignia.
A Sunflower.
"Do this mission and I'll point you directly to the Raven. Remember the contract."
You were a dog on a tight leash and brought to heel by a promise.
The gates to the back of your transport opened, revealing the morning sun rising in the distance. The lights around your AC turned from red to green as the latches keeping you stable had released you.
Pushing your controls forward, your AC's headlights turned on and you were sent careening towards the earth, thousands of feet from the air.
Your display quickly provided you with the necessary information as you charted your flight path. The information of your enemies were already marked on your map, some several kilometers east from where you were. Your thrusters roared to life and you were flung towards your destination.
It was cold. Snow seemed to be present within the operation area. It provided you with some comfort as you made your descent. You felt your machine rattle as you gained speed, trailing an orange flame through the skies as you dived.
It shouldn't take you more than a minute. In fact, you could see the enemy base now. From a distance you fired off your scanning drones and received information almost immediately. It was a mountainside fortress, heavy artillery mounted on reinforced walls and several dozen MT's patrolling the area.
You flew towards your enemies with the force of a meteor, crushing an MT underfoot as you heard their comms start bustling with activity.
"ENEMY ATTACK! A SINGLE AC!"
"Just one? Which corporation sent it! Verify our contacts! MT's head out to intercept, get the HCs up and running!"
You landed on some poor fool and used their body as a makeshift board to slide across the ground. You turned and fired your missiles into the air having locked on to several MTs before you assault boosted into another MT and drove your heavy leg into it's frame.
Jerking your controls, your machine turned and drew it's machine pistol, shredding through the choppers flying towards you as the bullets tore through the buildings behind them.
An alarm rang to your left and you dashed to evade a wall mounted cannon's blast. You responded by kneeling and firing your spread bazooka from your shoulder, covering it in explosions that tore it apart.
More alarms rang and you were forced to move, evading several missiles from a truck before you started shooting them with your machine pistol. Buildings burned and MTs' exploded as you kicked off the ground and fired your missiles into several targets before you bombarded the base entrance with your bazooka.
"Providing you with the location of your mark."
You turned your head to where the Gardener was directing you before you activated your thrusters and started making your way. Several MT's got in your way but you charged through them, knocking them down with a swipe of your arm or crushing them underfoot with sheer force.
"There should be 5 Transports. Eliminate them."
You crested a hill a were airborne as you saw the transports just waiting under you. You locked on to three and fired your missiles before diving towards the fourth and firing your primary gun. The people screamed as they fled your presence before an alarm rang and forced you to move away again.
Turning, you came upon a tetrapod HC, heavily armored and covered in pulse shielding. It's main cannon was gathering energy and released a blast your way.
You evaded the blast and were about to fire your gun, only for a piercing light to knock it out of your hand. It slammed into the ground, grinding an unlucky human under it's sheer size and weight.
Turning your head, you saw four more HCs come down, all of them surrounding you.
"You're surrounded. Play it smart."
Then the enemies began talking with their guns trained at you.
"This ends here! Surrender now or we will shoot! Deactivate your Armored Core and step out of the cockpit!"
