ARCANA (40K Perpetual Quest)

[X] Pragmatism- You take the gun. Survival at all costs. Survival at all costs. (Gain Karnos Pattern Hellpistol, a hybrid Marksmanship/Gunslinger weapon that provides +10 to all skill rolls, ???.)

Just because we are unworthy now doesn't mean we can't become worthy through action.

[X] Devotion- No. You weren't worthy to wield such a fabled item. It deserved better than an outskirts con-man. (???, +3 Fate)

We can return it to him later, for now, gun.

I want to see if following this path of devotion and remaining true to it would help the machine spirits accept him more.

Keep in mind that this vote, fundamentally, isn't just about a gun, but also about Ulysses priorities and values and that either option WILL have effects on Ulysses characterization and state of mind, among other things.

If it was just about the gun, there wouldn't even be a vote.

(Anyways vote will probably be open until tommorow).

I'm not entirely sure 'devout', especially to Humanity's pantheon, is something I particularly want to roleplay but considering just about every other 40k quest has a 'pragmatic' protagonist or someone who claims to be one...anything different would be nice.

The Fate intrigues me.

Devotion is... foolish in this instance. There is nothing about the imperial creed and the empire that is worthy of devotion unless you make yourself blind, so really it's self perpetuating folly

Skills are our superpower. Anything that enhances them sounds amazing.

Sounds more useful IMO.

I hope we can choose to give this back after. Not using it feels unhealthy, perspective wise. But keeping it feels wrong. Not because it's a relic; but 'cuz it's Eli's.

I honestly feel like this is the wrong option, but i dislike the idea of becoming more ruthless and pragmatic in 40k, like fate, the omnissiah and mystery boxes.

Better ruthless in the service of survival than an idealist for the Imperial Cult. Like seriously if we worshiped the magic space squash (TM) I would be down for devotion, but not this, never this.

Ah yes, the magic memetic space squashes that corrupt, mutate, explode and infuse daemons into everything and continue to live even if you only pay heed to the very concepts they consider their domains, truly more worthy of our devotion. There's a ton wrong with the imperial cult and honestly even more wrong with the cult mechanicus but they do come from a place of necessity and survival in a universe that's already fucked up beyond belief.

What turns me off the pragmatic response is the "Everything. for survival" mentality, that will fuck us over a lot more in the long term than faith in the omnissiah will.

*glances at the living conditions of forge worlds*
Yeah I think if anything they make the odds of humanity's survival lower and their quality of life vastly less so
