Looks like we're getting Horizon: Zero Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and I am here for it. Wes Ball's a step down from Matt Reeves (though I hear the Maze Runner films are surprisingly solid) and it's not Andy Serkis monkeying around this time, but the idea of a Caesar's son on a heroes journey across post-apocalyptic America sounds pretty fucking rad.

Thank you for the merging. I really should have checked better.

Here's an early plot synopsis from Hollywood Reporter:
The new Apes movie is set many years after the conclusion of 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes. Many apes societies have grown from when the Moses-like Caesar brought his people to an oasis, while humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence. Some ape groups have never heard of Caesar, while others have contorted his teaching to build burgeoning empires.

In this setting, one ape leader begins to enslave other groups to find human technology, while another ape, who watched his clan be taken, embarks on a journey to find freedom. A young human woman becomes key to the latter's quest, although she has plans of her own.

the idea of a Caesar's son on a heroes journey across post-apocalyptic America sounds pretty fucking rad.
Slight correction, Noa isn't Caesar's son (since it takes place "several generations" after Caesar's death), and I'm not sure they are related from what little we know.

I'm just waiting for them to make one where the Dramatic Twist Ending is George Taylor's space pod landing

50/50 chance that the Easter Egg in Rise gets ignored, but if it isn't...I think it depends. The focus on that telescope in the trailer may mean some focus on space maybe. But they may also want ape society to get to the level it was in the original movie before Taylor shows up.

I mean if they're going to keep making these things, they'll probably want to explore that idea someday.

Yeah they'll probably keep it in a quantum state with easter eggs (the telescope, the TV broadcast in Rise, etc.) until they pull the trigger on a straight-drop-the-"of" The Planet of the Apes, but it would be rad as hell if the stinger is a recast Taylor waking up or something.

One hopes it won't be a full timeloop, since y'know that results in the Earth being exploded and all.

Which, ironically, Charlton Heston insisted on to prevent future sequels. Oh, Mr. Heston, you sweet summer child...

We already know they're not going to do the loop, for the simple reason that we saw Caesar's mother, and she was a modern day lab experiment chimp who never learned to talk rather than a fully articulate scientist chimp from the future.

Good point.

Also, thinking on it, it wasn't really a loop to begin with, since Zira apparently got read-in on the secret Real History at some point between the OG and Escape and the story she tells about it in the latter is almost backwards from what actually happened, IE the Ape rebellion happening starting with a Chimp named Aldo saying "No" centuries in the future, as opposed to the Ape Rebellion happening in the 21st Century and THEN the attempt to create a functioning mixed society afterwards falling apart because a Gorilla named Aldo losing his shit at a Human saying "No".

Though, given that they apparently remember The Lawgiver as a humanphobe, whereas (AIUI) in Battle he's shown as a peacemaker, it's possible that what Dr. Zaius and Co. think is the True Secret History is also full of lies and distortions.

And despite which, all of the crossover comics feel a need to make it clear that it changed nothing and the Earth got exploded anyways. Except maybe the Tarzan one, that was trippy.

You know, there were a lot of talks about Wes Ball being the director instead of Matt Reeves (and don't get me wrong, Reeves is one of the reasons why Dawn was a masterpiece), but watching a series of video essays (yeah I know) on the trilogy by StoryStreet made me a bit more hopeful. Mainly, Kingdom sees the return of Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the screenwriting couple, as writers, after not having written War (seemingly not for bad blood reasons or anything since they were still co-producers). Jaffa/Silver were the ones who came up with the concept of what would lead to the new trilogy, pitched the idea, and wrote the first and second movies.

I am much more hopeful that they are back as credited writers again. Even if Reeves is not here, he wasn't the director for Rise either, however Jaffa/Silver were its writers. That gives me more confidence that we will get a good, perhaps great story. Maybe not as powerful as Dawn, but no movies need to be (War certainly wasn't, at least to me).

Heard the movie is supposed to be a reboot of the original trilogy. Hope it will be good, because the original trinity was my childhood.

Edit: I meant the Matt reeves versions fir the original three of this generation.

I'm honestly pretty hype at this point, the original trilogy (well, two and three) is some of the best genre filmmaking of the last few years, and the idea of just a full blown fantasy epic ON THE PLANET OF THE APESSSSSS! sounds really got me.
APE QUEST

You weren't kidding, they revealed so much in this trailer, when before they had been more parsimonious. Like, the summary already said what made our protagonist go on his quest, but I didn't expect them to just fully show me the entire sequence. Though the biggest spoiler is the human girl speaking, which I have to wonder why they put it in when her deal is the biggest source of speculation about the movie I see.

Just straight up pulp fantasy tropes with talking monkeys, I love it. You've got your Doomed Ape Town, your asshole leader searching for a magical technological McGuffin, a wise old wizard mentor, your token Orc human party member, the works.

Yeah the girl talking/saying her real name is a very big deal, though they've been teasing some kind of space connection for awhile now (the shots of the mobile and the telescope keep popping up in trailers).

There was also this featurette, which also contains a pretty big spoiler if you put two and two together:

Consider the following: 20th Century Studios owns both the Planet of the Apes franchise, and the Predator franchise...
