Antagonist (Worm Quest, Alt!Power)

[X] Research large cats native to the area. There are cougars in North America, but they don't live around here... Right?

[X] Shere Khan
- [X] Patrol the docks, look for distribution points.

Yay, another chapter! :D

I think I'll be joining this quest. Sorry if I come off long-winded, but this really interests me. There are two things I'm thinking about right now...

The Flute

So, this update we found out that the flute will cost Taylor $800 to repair. Of course, there's no chance of Taylor earning that kind of money in the daytime... but we can earn it all in the nighttime, no problem. ;) So this looks to me like a quest hook: if we earn $800 and give it to daytime Taylor, she can get her flute repaired. What will that do for us? I have no idea. But UnwelcomeStorm gave us the option, so I'm pretty sure it's worth trying. :D

How can we do that? I'm sure that either the Red Bull or Shere Khan would be physically capable of stealing cash, but it's worth remembering that each of our Antagonists has a nature, and we get bonus points for doing things in accordance with that nature. It's also worth remembering that we patrolled Merchants territory last week; we might be able to use that to help us earn money this week.

The Red Bull is a pursuer – his nature is to go after a target. It seems to me like he's not the sort to be bought off; if so, we won't be acting in accordance with his nature if we use him to earn cash. (But if you have a good argument otherwise, let's talk about it!)

Shere Khan is a monarch – his nature is to rule. It would be in his nature to earn money, but he wouldn't steal it – that would be beneath him. Instead, he'd rather demand tribute. Accordingly, I think Shere Khan is our best bet if we want to get Taylor's flute repaired.

We could try take over the Merchants wholesale, but I'm not so sure that's a good idea yet – the Merchants are a gang with three capes and probably lots of minions. While they're not exactly S-Classes, we've never even seen Shere Khan in a cape fight yet – we have no idea how we'll do, and I'd hate to get defeated so early in the quest. Instead, I favor a somewhat less bold option. We know the Merchants' territory, and the location of one of their drug labs. Let's start causing trouble for them, and demand tribute (probably a much larger sum than $800!) in exchange for peace.

The only problem is, it might be hard for us to make demands as Shere Khan, since we can't talk. But we do have an upgrade we can buy for that, called Tongue of Man. I don't know if UnwelcomeStorm will let us have it out of turn, since he didn't give it to us as a voting option this time. But, if he will, my night vote for this week will look something like this:

[?] Buy Upgrade: Tongue of Man
[?] Night: Shere Khan, Attack Merchants Territory And Demand Tribute

Do you think this makes sense? Would you rather we not go for the flute quest? Or would you rather go about it a different way?

Taylor Hebert, Antagonist

Antagonist is all about the stories of our antagonist forms – each Antagonist has its own role, its own powers, its own nature to guide it. But we, Taylor Hebert, are an Antagonist, too. Don't forget, we're playing for an audience – Brockton Bay has already noticed the enormous tiger prowling around, and I doubt it'll take too long before they figure out we're a cape, especially if we start breaking out the rest of our magical menagerie. And, well... why would we have such a rich framework for building antagonists if we're not supposed to use it? So it's worth considering: what is our nature?

It's certainly a big decision, and it would make sense for us to spend a while thinking about it. But, to put my hat into the ring... I'd like to build Taylor Hebert into The Corrupter.

Do you want something? You can have it. It'll be easy, if you know what to do – and you have Taylor's help. But don't worry – the first time is always free. Have you done something wrong? Taylor doesn't mind. She'll keep your secrets... at a price. Would you like to do something wrong? That's no problem either. It'll just cost a little extra. Perhaps you'll never meet Taylor herself – she acts through her web, both her Antagonist personas and her all-too-human thralls. But, sooner or later? You'll find yourself wrapped around her finger. :D

And... one more thing?

Right now, day and night seem separate – we vote for Taylor's movements in the daytime, and the Antagonist's movements in the nighttime. But I find myself wondering... you know, we have human-form antagonists, so that's definitely possible, and when I think back to iconic antagonists, Skitter and Khepri top the list. And... looking back on the first post of the quest, doesn't it sound like Taylor is talking about herself and not just the Antagonist forms? So, call it a hunch, but something tells me that Taylor Hebert really can be an Antagonist of her own.

Let's not just play Taylor as a villain overnight. When we decide on a nature for her, let's follow it in the daytime, too. :D

To turn my thoughts into a concrete vote...

[X] Day: Research your classmates online, looking for people who might be easy to manipulate.
[X] Night: Shere Khan, Attack Merchants Territory And Demand Tribute
[X] Buy Upgrade: Tongue of Man

To critique the currently-winning vote, I really don't think daytime Taylor should get a job – we can earn money much more easily in the nighttime.

I'm going to be really interested to see how Shere Khan's tribute makes its way to the Hebert household.

Reading about Taylor having a part time job also doesn't make for the most exciting read, and being a minor she'd probably have difficulty finding one with BB's economy.

I'm unclear as to the purpose of this?

At night, we can spend our time looking for richer targets for the next week. That's effectively what we did our first week – we patrolled Merchants territory, learning the lay of the land. It occurs to me that we might be able to do the same in the waking hours, scoping out school and our classmates in the hopes of finding targets for later on.

True, but in order for Taylor to use that money, she'd have to...find it? I don't think that she's the type who'd do something like that.
Remember, this isn't canon Taylor – read the monologue at the start of the quest if you don't think she'd do something like that. She is an Antagonist. This is nothing to her. ;)

She doesn't remember her nighttime excursions yet, but I really don't think this Taylor would object to money simply appearing for her. :D

(And I do imagine basically leaving it in her bedroom.)

My only qualm is as to whether that's something she'd really be able to find online? Unless there's an obvious connection like name-brand corporation, which I doubt would be attending Winslow were that the case.

Winslow is mostly poor students, I think, with Emma being on the upper end of things. But trying to blackmail/target children/their families just doesn't seem very viable? Whether it be to demand tribute or offer a deal, Taylor just doesn't have the social connections and I'm not sure that anyone would take her seriously/be willing to associate with her due to the trio.

I was thinking she'd mostly be looking at social media, but there's a surprising amount of personal information available online. Public records of all sorts, for instance... :)

You're right that Taylor might not be able to use this information during the daytime yet, given how bad her reputation is. But if she learns useful facts during the day, we can put them to use at night, through our Antagonist forms. ;)

Heights? I don't believe that was used to describe any part of Brockton in Worm. Perhaps you meant the Towers?

[X] Plan Slow And Steady
[X] The Red Bull pursuing Emma
-[X] Start subtle out of the corner of her eye, before becoming more and more overt when she's isolated, until the Bull chases her, terrified, all the way to the sea from something she's fond of like modelling or the mall.
