Is Mishima an OTL person who was gay, or is it a word that means gay in Japanese? Maybe I'm missing something
Prime Minister Kimitake Hiraoka is a (somewhat) loose counterpart to historical Japanese author Yukio Mishima (who's birth name was actually Kimitake Hiraoka). Mishima was a widely celebrated author, poet, actor, and bodybuilder, and he was very, very gay (despite briefly being one of Japan's hottest young bachelors, to the point where he turned down the woman who later became Empress Michiko).
Later in life, he got deeply involved in far-right politics, and ended up attempting to stage a coup. He and four of his buddies took over a military base in Tokyo, where he gave a speech trying to rally them to take over the government and restore the power of the Emperor. It went about as well as you'd expect (the soldiers thought the speech was super fucking dumb and mocked him), whereupon he went inside the base and committed sepuku. Weirdly, there's actually a lot of evidence to suggest that the whole thing was just an elaborate performance art piece, and in reality Mishima just wanted to go out in a badass way.
So... Premier Mishima, eh?
Tell me, does the new Japanese Premier have... an interesting love life for the time?
Wouldn't you like to know?
I should note that Hiraoka isn't a 1:1 copy of Mishima (Mishima would be about 37 ITTL, which is a little young to be Prime Minister). They share a lot of the same politics, though I've spliced in elements of Gaulism and diet-Japanese Militarism. As for his propensity to visit nightclubs and take photos of himself oiled up in a loincloth, well, that's between him and his security detail.
