Given how withdrawn and uncommunicative he's been over the last year and his complete lack of knowledge he has about her day to day life over that span, I'm of the assumption that his mental image of her is at least a year out of date and doesn't take into account the emotional trauma from her mother's death and the soul-crushing abuse she's been getting at school. When you add in all the changes she's gone through in the last month, the differences between the girl he remembers and the girl claiming to be his daughter are massive.

He thinks she is a happy girl who talks a lot and spends most of her time with her best friend Emma.

He hasn't really been a attentive parent since his wife died. Frankly he would have even odds of thinking she was a different person even if nothing changed. He is that out of touch with her.
