Africa goes back in time

...They are national diplomats and ambassadors.

This is the part where I go very technical and remind you that they are technically considered a part of their countries... if the ISOT does applies to them as well, then we still have to deal with a very resilient pest that will probably hide somewhere else...

The revolution happens. Period. The USSR's rise is as inevitable as the US invading whoever they don't like and keeping my friends from using my Halo account...

Except the USSR's rise wasn't inevitable at all and was a close-run thing based on a very specific array of variables. Entire markets of resources have disappeared- the entire war could end early depending on African decisions.

This isn't even your scenario, why are you telling other people what will happen definitively?

It's also the superpower that caused much of Africa to be in the state it's in today. Note that South Africa began it's dismantling of Apartheid around the time the Soviet Union collapsed. Regardless of the ANC's position, there would be plenty of South Africans who don't want their continent to go through that again.

An entire continent from the future just appeared. If they don't act on the rumours immediately, they're going to when it becomes obvious that it was the truth.

They just got transported back in time and their respective countries are beginning WW1. They're going to become interested in politics. They don't have to have influence, just a radio transmitter with the range to reach European countries. Hell, as soon as someone lands a jet airliner in Europe, they're gonna be listened to.

I think you meant "United States of America" and "British Empire" but I guess people are a bit too Anglocentric to acknowledge this...

By then, it will be too late...

As soon as that happens, don't you think there will be people in the opposite side of the spectrum willing to help them out?

Individual A lives in Africa, has history books and knowledge of history, but wants to improve their livelyhood. They could do VERY well consulting for a downtime government.

African Government B needs trade badly, and wants to jumpstart the whole process. Scientific and historic knowledge is pipelined to a big trading power in exchange for economic and naval concessions.

Individual C hates communists with unreasonable passion, and has the wherewithal to get to Europe or get the information to Europe.

Individual D hates capitalists with unreasonable passion and has the wherewithal to get to Russia or get the information to Russia...

It was a close run based on the conditions of Russia at the time. I doubt that will change even if you try and stop WWI now. The Russians were too far into the "we're sick of your shit America" side of affairs to want and give anything short of a communist state a chance. Do you think modern Russia's hate emerged from the Soviet Union? Russians have been crying blood against America since they decided it was a good idea to invade Vladivostok and felt they had to return the favor.

They are a vindictive people, just like me...

And I am not saying what will happen, but I am singling out the "it won't happen" posts. It might or it might not. Nothing changes there besides how it might happen, whether it does or not...

For the same reason the scenario appeared and everyone is crying out for Lenin's head?

If you wanted to have a wank about the Soviet Union you should have told us beforehand and saved us the trouble of responding.

Hmm...

Okay, here's a bonus second scenario to discuss, if people wish:

Africa is transported backwards 200 years - it arrives in February 1st 1816.

Superpower South Africa says hi...

I was going to do one in response if the focus of this thread became "Russia screwed, all's right with the world", but so far it seems like it's only marginally close to that point... I don't want to wank anyone, but I don't want to shaft anyone either, especially when this scenario introduces a lot of stuff that might make Lenin's plans easier as well as harder...

Seriously, enough with taking shots at the USSR...

Yeah but you said stupendously ahistorical things like how in 1916 Russia was so furiously angry with America they had a civil war about it.

I think the trouble is this is just too big an ISOT. You have so many variables shooting off in every direction.

Well, I sometimes throw stuff around since I see time periods as a period rather than a single year... but yeah, this is pretty much a popcorn bag in the oven. You can't tell what will happen anymore...
