Rolling!

EDIT: NIBBLES COME BACK TO US
*breaths in heavily through nose* Fuck. I didn't plan for you rolling that well.

Honestly, you also have a plus ten modifier to stealth and agility due to your elvish grace, however the low light conditions do tend to balance that out.

Combat Start.
Just wrote this up. I love sacrificing my lunch break for questing

Intervene, observe or sleep, a hard choice, you immediately crossed off being a hero and jumping down, you were probably too high up and would end up looking like a wonderful stain on the leaves, a small part of you wanted to sleep, not wanting to be outnumbered or a hostage. But a slightly larger part of you decided that it would be best to sneak up and see what was happening.

With a decision made you set about your course of action and so with a grace that is common to your proud people you moved, with some difficulty, from your position in the branches. Slinking down on the branches you remember you be sure not to put too much pressure on a single branch as it would probably cause them to creak, not that it could be easily heard over the sounds of combat, clanging sounds purveyed the air and you heard other noises, could be the voices of the combatants, but you weren't sure. As you move down you try to remember where each branch is as the light of the moon offers you little help, the only real light that can be found is the glowing yellow eyes of what manner of creature is out there, you plop down and move into a bush, which gives you a very good view of the combat.

The view you are given makes it clear that there is a tall being that is surrounded, it's too short to be an elf (not that any true elf would be caught dead using metal weapons and armour) but definitely too tall to be a dwarf. You can't really make out that many details but it is carrying two things in its hands, held in its left is what looks like a burning stick of some kind, you barely fight the urge to jump out and extinguish the fire right there, in its right hand it holds what looks like a long sword made out of some dull grey material (definitely not wood), could it be actual metal, you feel a bit of disgust when you think of how many trees died to make that sword. You mentally dub it the 'tall dwarf'
The unmoving one is ... dissolving, how fascinating
The other beings are short stocky, hunched over creatures, which reach the waist height of the tall dwarf, one was lying motionless on the ground, there were two which were in the background, their bright eyes obviously allowing them to see in the dark, then there were three that are close to the tall dwarf, one was missing its right arm, and was using the left to move around to the side of the dwarf, then there were two which were more able bodied then their comrade and had both their arms remaining. The first one lunged forward only to be swatted down by the flaming stick the second was kept at bay with a swing of the sword.
It can't keep up swinging forever
"Keep back!" the tall dwarf shouted in … Human, other than that, the voice sounds … high pitched, the flaming stick is brought down on the first being and you hear a cracking sound as something breaks. The second one is kept back by another wide arc of the sword, though this one is slower, the one-armed creature is moving slowly but surely to the side, dangerously close to where you are, you could just easily reach out and grab it with your hands and finish it off, it'd probably be quiet, probably. You could always just ignore what's happening, or you could intervene.
The first being is dead, or about as dead as it could be

I'd really love it of we had some form of direct attack magic for our ambush, but we don't have any right now.

As for helping the Tall Dwarf, well, I don't trust small things in the night.

So what I'm getting from this is that we can get Nibbles back! I see no way trying to learn necromancy would backfire, none at all :V

Damn right, there's no way that can bite you in the ass. Except in terms of getting killed by the undead that would be guarding the necromancer's tower as even your own severed limbs rise to the will of the necromancer all in order to end you.
Yep, no way what-so-ever, necromancers these days leave their libraries and towers unguarded these days.

I knew it sounded like a good idea with no downsides :V

On an unrelated note, how common are necromancer towers anyway? Witches huts too, I suppose? Asking for a friend :p

Depends on what continent you're on, in the Common Continent, there's only a few, but they are not that easy to enter. In terms of witch hunts, they are surprisingly common, which is part of the reason why there are little necromancers and also why many bandit clans have mages in them.
In terms of frequency, it varies from kingdom to kingdom (and often ruler to ruler) some may zealously carry out witch hunts while other's might actually employ magic users.
Though generally speaking, Necromancy is strictly forbidden, even in the kingdoms that are very liberal with magic, necromantic tomes are often publicly burned, typically with the necromancer themselves being tossed into the pile for good measure.
If your friend wanted to find a necromancer tower, they would best look on another continent, or go far to the north and to the south.

Well, its clear what's happening, so I'm calling the vote.

There's more of them! Gobbos maybe?

Oh well, let's see how far we can take our sneak-killing streak.

Also, it should be mentioned that I have given the Tall Dwarf her own character sheet, in case you feel like checking it out.

Second Turn
Almost on instinct, you lunge forward with your arms and warp them around the neck of the one-armed entity, pulling it closer as it feebly tries to break your grip, its hands warp around your wrists and they squeeze, a valiant effort you realize, but it was nothing compared to how your arms warped around its neck gave an almighty squeeze and you heard a popping sound as its neck almost completely collapsed from your grip, another voice of the cackling was silenced. It seems that no-one has noticed your presence. A quick casting of nudge fate ensures that no-one hears you.
She has dropped her still-burning torch.
The tall dwarf on the other hand appears to be having a harder time, as she tries to hold down a two-pronged assault. Muttering some sort of incantation under her breath as she moves into a Hanging Left Guard in an effort block the attacks. A multitude of headbutts, punches, kicks and the occasional attempt at biting come close but she parries what she can and blocks what she can't, a valiant effort, but it proves too much and one breaks through her guard, its hand tightening on her right wrist and squeezing, though based off the awkward angle and its own insignificant weight it is hardly enough to break her wrist, but you can see the pain on her face as she focuses on not dropping the sword.
She's slowing down
With a swift kick she knocks the offending entity off her wrist and back peddles, giving a few wide swings to keep them back. After stopping, she raises her sword into a hanging left guard again, one of the entities is moving to the left, while the other, after getting up, is circling to right. Dividing her attention, as she must anticipate attacks from two different sides.

In the distance, you see the two other sets of glowing eyes, own of them appears to be focused on something else entirely and is obviously distracted, while the other one is moving forward swiftly adding a third entity to the mixture, and a fresh one at that. You smile slightly as you realize just how much a Challenge this could be.

Well, I really want to continue murderizing things without being seen. Which probably means going after the distracted target that is not standing all alone.

Does that mean leaving concealment?

Ooh, spooky. We are the voices here, so aren't we already in control for the most part?

[X] Remain Concealed
-[X] The distracted enemy
--[X] Swing from Tree to Tree and take them out from above.

Most of the Gobbos are busy fighting a armored human with both sides making lots of noise. Tgat should be a good enough distraction for us to strike from above all fancy like.

Who said you weren't the only voices. I certainly didn't.

Depends on how well you roll and if you can to kill it before it makes enough of a ruckus. Though the fact that you're an unarmed fighter does give you some advantages in this department. Some but not all.

I am soooo tempted to go for this, so very tempted. Maybe another time, though. Will we have an option in the future to talk to our voices and become familiar with them?

I think the lack of feedback is mainly that we haven't really done a lot yet, which can't be helped since you have real life to take care of, but it should pick up given some time and more updates. Personally, I'm glad to see this quest still going. I like the setting you've came up with and would like to explore it more, especially those voices. I have no real complaints :)

Tall Dwarf enters murderhobo mode? I also noticed that she has prejudice against elves as a trait, that should make things interesting when we talk.

Guess I'll join the bandwagon. Is there a way that we can learn other races magic, or are we limited to Elvish magic only? How exactly would we go about learning further magic anyway, just use magic till we level up and unlock a further spell or would finding a magic book/scroll work as well?

You're also mute, which'll make things even more fun.

I... haven't planned for this, shit.
Basically speaking you can learn other races magic, its just that learning it will come with more difficulty to you then it normally would. You could also learn necromancy which, for an arcane art of raising the dead themselves from their eternal slumber, is a surprisingly easy magic to learn.
What I've basically got planned for learning spells is that it is a mixture of your magic stat and dice rolls, with modifiers depending on your race and stuff like that. Gimme a bit while I write up a set of rules for this.

*Squee* thank you, thank you, thank you! That's like the best feedback I could get.

Magic Rules
Magic, the Universe and You
My quickly hashed out rule set for magic in this quest

The Importance of the Magic Skill
This one is a no-brainier but your magic skill does play a part in the learning of magic. Basically, the higher your magic stat the number of spells you can learn without getting a negative modifier.

To use you as an example, you currently have four spells and four levels in magic, if you tried to learn another spell, you'd encounter a -5 modifier for learning magic (this effect stacks for every extra spell you try to learn while over the limit). though it is worth mentioning if you have 4 four spells learnt but 5 levels in magic, you gain a +5 modifier, this effect also stacks.

You can increase your magic skill by reading some treatises on magic, leveling up, casting magic enough that you become familiar with it and finding a magic teacher and paying their rent for the month.

The Sentient Species
The process of learning another race's magic is a hard task, as you are basically learning part of their thought process and their culture.

Once again, using an example, if the Tall Dwarf tried to learn an elvish spell, she'd normally encounter a -10 modifier, however, due to her prejudice trait against elves, she'd encounter another -10 modifier; due to the fact that elvish magic is bullshit, much like the rest of their culture, at least, to her anyway.

In addition, language barriers also play a part, due to the fact that she can't understand a word of elvish, she'd encounter another -10 modifier due to the fact that she can't make heads or tails of it.

Stats
Your intelligence does play a part in this as well, basically, for every point of intelligence you have over "5" you gain a +5 modifier, similar for those lower than "5".

Wisdom only indirectly influences learning spells, Wisdom just determines how quickly you learn the skills which would make it easier for you to learn spells.

Perks
As mentioned before, your character's prejudices do play a part in learning magic as does your understanding of the language, both of which are perks.

Other perks do play a part, for every rank in "Mage" perk, you will gain a +5 modifier to learning magic, though for perks with no rank to it, like "Blessed by the Spirits" perk, will give you a +10 modifier to learning magic. Possessed also plays its own part. Those nice voices only want to help, why don't you let them?

Necromancy
If you want to embark upon the cursed and dark path of necromancy, there's only thing you have to do: Read, that's right, read the necromancer's research notes, they left them there when you killed them, and you can then learn from those notes.
I am not kidding, it's that easy. There are no tricks here
Your powers will be very minor and you could barely raise a dead squirrel from the dead, but the more you do it, the more powerful you will become.
Though it is important that you practice control, lest your powers overtake you
In terms of raising someone from the dead, it will depend upon your magic skill, your understanding of necromancy (perk), your rank in "Mage" and your intelligence. So, go out there and learn you twisted genius and raise your army of the dead, for they know no fear.
